The story around it is a GW urban legend:

The thing about 80s GW and their games was the creativity, the insane fun and the DIY aspect of the hobby, also no one took that shit seriously. Grim Dark was present, but in a comic book way, like 2000ad, Heavy Metal (both the comic magazine and the music) or Verhoeven movies.
