Storytime continues from >>54807524
I love this. I hope the series will be at least 80% of Coco and the gang coming yp with non-violent uses of magic to solve whatever they get themselves into.
Chapter 5
In which world gets built.
>>54811918
I love this guys hat.
>>54812031
>>54812082
>>54812031
They'll show the hats of other members of the group, they all look pretty cool.
This is cute and fun. Thanks OP.
>>54811994
My eyes see Power Rune, but my head hears PARGON
>>54812303
You're welcome, anon, glad you're enjoying it.
>>54811680
This is my favorite spread in the series so far
>>54812356
What's PARGON from, anon?
>>54812517
Eternal Darkness, a gamecube game. A super good one too.
Hey, it's that image!
>>54812412
How about this one, anon?
>>54812517
Eternal Darkness. Funny enough it also uses a rune system for spellcasting with the idea that runes represent nouns, pronouns, verbs, and adjectives. IT has a neat effect too, you summon this circle around you while this shadowed voice chants in the background.
The tiers for spells go 3 point, 5 point, 7 point, and 9 point and you fill each slot with runes. Tier 3 is basically a pronoun (the eldritch deity you are invoking) a noun (say object) and then a verb (Protect) and the completed sentence of will enchant your weapon with the power of the elder thing you named.
However a chink in the system happens when you want to use higher tier magic. Because the devs didn't deliver on their "100+ spell combinations promise" because they only gave you 10 runes to use not including the 4 for different deities. And of those 10 it was almost split between verbs and nouns so the number of combinations was limited out the gate, and they didn't program in more than 9 spells.
So casting higher tier spells means using the same runes in a 3 point spell, and filling the excess with the Pargon [power] rune. So to enchant your weapon with a 7 point circle meant listening to
>Chat'turgah
>Bankorak
>Pargon
>Pargon
>Magormor
>Pargon
>Pargon
Repeat this across the entire game or every time you wanted to enchant your swords. Not to mention that while you can skirt by with a 3 point enchanted weapon it means lengthening fights unnecessarily and there are very few instances where a lower level spell is better than a higher level one late game.
So now whenever I think of Eternal Darkness I hear Pargon in my head. Power runes have been ruined for me.
Still a good game but Silicon Knights likes to write big checks they can't necessarily cash.
Chapter 6
In which the GM doesn't believe in balancing encounters.
I really just want to sleep.
>>54812723
You're doing good work, Anon. It's much appreciated.
>>54812592
Its well done, but the paneling and sense of freedom and wonder the first one imparts is absolutely perfect

You've been at this for 6 hours anon. GEt some sleep afterwards but thanks for the dump.

You're welcome, anons. I'm glad you're following it.

Agreed. I'll look forward to it if it continues.

Well this is absolutely delightful. Reminds me so much of Earthsea and Chrestomanci!
The artist has a talent for soft curves.
And we're back, mates! I'm so glad you guys are into it.
If you're just joining us, this is Witch Hat Atelier, a series with cute witch girls, a cool magic system and a beautiful, dreamy art style.
You can read the first part here: >>54807524

It's great, it is both full of cute and interesting world/magic/metaphysics. I am not a mango person but really am enjoying this.

Riche is now my daugherfu, it's official.
I wonder who Agete killed/saw die.
If it were a weekly series, I'd be thrilled by the chapter ending like that. But to think it's at least a month before I get to see what the plan is, it's a little frustrating.
>>54817620
What drove you exactly, anon?
Thanks for sticking around, anons! I'm glad you enjoy the series.
I follow it here: https://bato.to/comic/_/comics/witch-hat-atelier-r20723
>>54817661
Hmm. I hadn't thought of that, but considering how bitter she is that's pretty likely.
>>54817676
Her personality is perfect. Straight daughterfu material.
i know i'm going to sound like badwrongfun asshole, but the girl are really walking stereotypes
the edgy brooding girl
the cold and quiet girl
the optimistic hyperactive
and the protagonist, naive, kind hearted, the head full of dream
that aside, the art and worldbuilding are great
>>54817698
the artstyle remind me of another manga, but i can't remeber which
do you know the artist name anon ?
>>54818018
It does have a certain feel to it - almost like it's got some western influence in the design and some details. Almost reminds me of Miyazaki's movies, what with the extra attention to the items and building designs and the fanciful folktale feel.
>>54817983
I think it's a bit different than just edgy and brooding, usually characters like that are quiet and don't talk or express themselves much.
Agete is just angry, and is very vocal about it. More like a spiteful, immature child trying to be too serious than anything. Usually those kinds of characters done right tend to have good character development, though.
This is good stuff. Thanks anon.
>>54818018
Name's Shirahama Kamome, anon. Is that what you were thinking of?
Pic related's from another manga of hers.
>>54817983
This is reflective of a common and prevelant belief in Japan concerning blood-typ[es as a i\dentifier for personality, similar to how horoscopes of the zodiac determine personalities in America. But because there are only four, it's much easier to use them as a basis for characterization, especially in a student setting.
>>54818280
Oh, this explains all the softly drawn girls. She's a lovely artist.
>>54817983
So you mean
The Fire Rune
The Water Rune
The Float Rune
The Power Rune
>>54818390
not particularly in that order
>>54817676
Wait, that's it?!?
Goddamnit.
>>54818280
not this one, but thanks anon
>>54818390
Would it be like this?
Float - Tetia
Power - Riche
Fire - Agete
Water - Coco
>>54818485
Yeah, I know how you feel, man.
>>54812736
>ok everyone, you've just been transported from the street to some strange city of smooth walls
>In front of you, perched on a tall tower stands a dragon, it has seen you and it looks hungry
There better be yuri between these girls soon. We've got magic and suffering, we just need the yuri.
>>54817983
It's worse than "just stereotipes". One could think turning your mother into stone could teach a person to sit down and think of the consequences before attempting an action, or that sending a newbie somewhere dangerous would be a basis for a serious punishment. Apparently not.
Oh, and "there is a conspirancy dedicated to keeping the fact that magic can be done by anyone secret" leaves a bad taste in the mouth.
>>54818995
>there is a conspirancy dedicated to keeping the fact that magic can be done by anyone secret
In this world magic is just a written language, if anyone knew they could use it can you imagine the chaos that could ensue?
>>54819112
I can. I doubt any conspiracy trying to prevent it would be successful.
>>54819165
In this setting it's not that implausible. The means of even using it require specialized tools and one guild has a monopoly on it. Factor in years of misinformation convincing people that you have to have an innate aptitude for magic and there you have it.
And even if you started telling everyone they can use magic so what? They can't use regular ink and the actual tomes related to how glyphs work are not for public review. This isn't any different than stone masons or whatever trade you can imagine back in the day where information wasn't just a click away being the only people capable of building houses.
>>54817588
Do dragons not breath fire in this world?
>>54819406
Maybe it's just this one that doesn't. Also, remember the Brimmed Hats don't want to kill the girls.
>>54819205
>specialized tools
A bottle of special ink.
>years of misinformation
I do not think it would be possible.
>They can't use regular ink
Smuggling. Thievery.
>actual tomes related to how glyphs work are not for public review
Same, plus espionage. Hell, a girl sneak peeked on a guy performing a ritual and went undetected - there goes their conspiracy!
>This isn't any different
It is. Stone masons kept secrets of their trade, true, but they did not claim it was an innate ability. They took regular people as students in.
It's more like misinforming people who have never seen a gun that only those with innate ability can fire it. Someone would eventually realise that anyone can do it as long as you have bullets (maintenance, cleaning and aiming aside).
>>54818995
It's fantasy gun control.
The forbiden magic user picked a dragon because dragons are based on serpenta. It's a subtle "don't thread on me" message.
>>54819489
>>54819686
They don't operate in the open, though.
>>54819489
>Someone would eventually realise that anyone can do it as long as you have bullets (maintenance, cleaning and aiming aside
What do you think this order of masked witches are doing right now? Trying to break the masquerade.
But you're not going to sit here and pretend like a group of Scholars that did not disseminate their knowledge to everyone and keep a very tight lid on their Trade Secrets and materials isn't able to maintain the idea that magic is something that only special people can do. It's not like it's even common knowledge that all you need a special ink nobody knew this except for a small handful of people. And if someone does to your ritual they're not going to immediately assume that they can do the same thing too because they spent their whole lives being sold that magic is something only a select few are capable of. And if anybody else tries anything they get >>54819686
>>54819165
It's magic, they don't have to explain shit.
>>54821316
>>54819777
>you have to hold someone down and draw on them in order to mindwipe them
That seems really difficult to do to whole villages and shit
>>54818995
>One could think turning your mother into stone could teach a person to sit down and think of the consequences before attempting an action
This has pretty much happened though. Coco has been pretty dang careful with magic since that moment. She didn't choose to take the test, for example, Agete pushed her into it.
>or that sending a newbie somewhere dangerous would be a basis for a serious punishment
Mr. Pretty Loli Collector Wizzard seems to be the "all that ends well" sort of wise man. It was wrong of Agete to push a newcomer into attempting the test, but it also allowed Coco to grow as a witch, and, frankly, seeing her preconceptions regarding Coco proven wrong is probably what Agete needed.
>>54821570
Glyphs can be written out in advance and stored until needed provided you don't complete the circle.
They literally keep spells on tiny notepads and activate them by closing the book on the appropriate page.
This is excellent.
This is fantastic. Thanks so much for sharing!
Thanks OP, great job.
The magic system in this is great, as is the world building.
>>54811765
>Agete flat-out tries to kill Coco
>>54817317
>>54817331
>Straight-up SAYS she wants Coco left alone to die
HOW IS THIS BITCH NOT GETTING SLAPPED YET?! She is quite literally MURDEROUS for the SIN of not being part of the soopa seekrit klub. This cow is proof that 'forbidden' magic isn't what makes you evil; being a horrible person is what makes you evil!
>>54828325
I'm not seeing it as you are, anon.
I will concede that, when she pushed Coco into taking the test, she meant for her not to return;; this time she's being a bitch, sure, but not really anything close to murderous.
Been reading both threads while doing paperwork. Love the setting. Definitely adding in elements into mine. Maybe a connection between this secret magic and the jealously guarded dwarf rune magic
Also thinking of posting a good fantasy manga I found if people are interested

No, /tg/ is still shit, you're just too deep in the gunk to notice it.
>>54834296
>2006 or 7
Yeah, it's distinctly possible it's just willful ignorance at this point.
>>54821570
Forbidden magic is anything that directly affects a human body, doesn't necessarily mean placed directly on their skin. Coco didn't draw a glyph into her mom to fossilize her, and Eye-mask didn't draw on the girls to teleport them into his maze. I think even Agete's fire tornado would be considered "forbidden" if it was directed at people.
Point is, I don't think witches would have to hold someone down and draw on their face to use a memory-wipe spell.
Finishing just this chapter for the other anon.
If anyone wants to continue our trend of cute fantasy, please feel free to contribute. I might post more Hakumei and Mikochi if the thread's still up when I get home.

This is the cutest, comfiest thread on /tg/ and it makes me happy. Please continue.
Eh, just one more.
>>54836564
Ahh. I remember reading that one. Will buy it some day.
>>54828829
When people don't return from something like this, it's usually because they end up dying. Agete didn't need to coax Coco into this trial, but she did. Agete may not be murderous per se, but she would have been responsible for her death.
>>54836783
> it's usually because they end up dying
Yeah, I wasn't deniying that, anon. When Agete sent her on the test, I too think she meant for Coco to die trying.
But the way I interpret it, after she came back with the King's Permission, Agete dialed it down just a bit; even if just in a grudgingly "fine, maybe you're not THAT useless" kind of way. She's still far from friendly, but I don't think she still wants Coco to die and I don't think she would actually leave Coco for dead this time.
>>54836846
Yeah, I think she was just spouting biting words because she's as flustered and frustrated with the situation as the rest of them. She's still a bitch though
Ok, really going now, mates, but keep it going.
