Gaussian weapons are a linear series of solid magnets that are coil-optional.
Coilguns are track-run weapons that only run on electromagnetic induction working on the projectile

You need an electromagnet to be able to fire a weapon, since those are toggleable.
And electromagnets are guess fucking what? Coils. Just plain coils you run current through. Magnetic acceleration, in turn, is always achieved through induction - all magnetic weapons fire simple metal slugs, not some kind of passive-state magnets, which means you must employ induction to be able to propel them with magnetism.

I recommend you stop being an ape and making assumptions about what I do and do not know. Gaussian weapons utilize linear solid magnets in-line with the barrel, whereas coilguns have the coils on a plane perpendicular to the track, so that the electromagnetic current running through them will pull the slug forward when switched on.

So I really, really like the idea of Eldritch Poisoner, but between action economy and the fact it specifically denies you adding discoveries to the arcanopoison I only feel sadness in looking at it. What houserules would it take for the archetype to not be irredeemable shit? Would the following actually help it?

So, this talk of a /pfg/ setting has got me thinking about worldbuilding, specifically about magic. How would one create a setting that properly takes the potency and versatility of magic into account? Would it stay medieval for long, or would that phase of history end quickly? How would the presence of magic alter the geopolitical landscape, military strategy, and the economy? How much sway would casters have in politics and government, and how would they be inevitably organised in the setting?

I know she time ago one anon mentioned Mages Guilds becoming fantasy equivalents to Megacorps, does anyone remember what that was about and if it would be much accurate at all?

My main issue with magic as a power and knowledge is that it's too easily fucked up.

Science happens and can cause major fuck ups, but outside an atomic war or similar thing we're not going to see the sort of dark age backsliding that magic lends itself to so very well, partly also because magic doesn't require the huge infrastructure that science does.

So while yes, you'd frequently get kingdoms and mage guilds gaining great power and making quick strides in magical warfare and utility, they'll just as often poke something they shouldn't or have a horrid problem in their foundations etc that sends it all toppling down like jenga. After that point, the generally secretive and self-motivated attitude of most magic practitioners means that is is absurdly hard to pick up the pieces and go on. Science is knowledge that empowers the masses as it's utilized, you can teach John Q Public about basic science and he can put it right to use to better his life with things like crop rotation, basic medical, water purification or metallurgy etc. Magic empowers the individual and lends itself heavily to pyramid schemes and tyranny.

Even adding gods into it doesn't help, because one god that patrons a kingdom and helps prop it up becomes the single point of failure and is putting all their worship eggs in one basket, easily leading to a failure point or everyone else simply ganging up on them.

I once did that in a game. I was the only good-aligned PC in the party, and we attacked some kind of lesser dragon, eventually defeating it with a Baleful Polymorph spell from the bard. It only failed its first save, so it retained its mind. My PC discussed the situation with it and decided that the party wasn't really in the right for attacking it unprovoked, and offered to dispell the polymorph on it if it would promise not to attack the party afterwards. The dragon was still disgruntled about its hoard of gems being taken, but since the other PCs refused to give back their share of the loot, my PC coughed up his share of the loot and then some to try and make things a bit better. The dragon flew away after being transformed back to normal and we never saw it again.
