Sure, some places on Dominaria where like that as well, but a lot of places weren't. Take Sarpadia or Terisiare for example, they've been fleshed out quite a bit and just calling them "Fantasy X" is a little easy. Terisiare is like a textbook generic fantasy place, right down to an ancient powerful civilization. We don't really know anything about Sarpadia. Israelite, not Israeli. Ancient Israelites/Hebrews were a Semitic people, and (based on contemporary descriptions/art) looked a lot like modern Arabs. Modern Israelis, however, are almost all descended from Eastern European immigrants.

earliest I can remember is third edition, which is '87. Might have been a thing before that.

I'm on the fence about the set. Mixing pirates and dinosaurs is good on paper, but having the whole jace element right off the bat is putting me off a little. They should have taken more inspiration from Odyssey, and left the connecting elements out for a set.

Demonstrably untrue. Not only are over 50% of Israelis Mizrahi Jews (Levantine/Peninsular origin), but all the "European immigrants" are genetically Levantine as well. DNA analysis has proven this beyond a shadow of a doubt.
