Gisela isn't combat based. Her ability works wonders with earthquake and stuff like selfless squire.

Brion gives no fucks about combat.

Depala and Basandra are combat centric in some ways, but can be built differently.

Boros's problems are weak generals, not the niche.

Akiri is also kind of interesting though she isn't really just boros because of partner.
>>
>>54781452
No. It stays on the battlefield but no longer exists. Put a cup over it to replicate the effect.
>>
>>54781452

>>
>>54781439
Oh yeah, I forgot about Gisela.
I remember I once played against a really nasty Gisela control deck. Spot land removal, light stax, and Mana Barbs was a brutal combination.
>>
>>54781439
Archangel Avacyn can be built like Gisela. In fact I would argue that she's great for Boros control if you feel up for a challenge.
>>
>>54781461
I dunno if I can really call a big beater as interesting and not combat based.

You could do Boros Partners though. Tarl and Akiri, playing Myr Battlesphere and swinging for 7 doublestrike lifelink.

Boooooring.

Basandra can be built completely creatureless. Lots of landmine and rattlesnake effects and opponents kill themselves while you watch.
>>

Basilisk Collar, Repercussion, blink effects. She actually has a couple of build options. It's funny how people build her to either stay as White mode with blink effects, or flip her almost on command for damage.

People have ridiculous standards for "combat centric". Which is funny, because at the same time they automatically declare everything that's even slightly combat centric "boring".

the other thing I hope is that it's not secretly zombie tribal with a bunch of wizards in it.
>>
>>54781635

This. I unironically want banding back because the concept of that ability is so fucking cool. HOWEVER they should introduce an errata to the ability that makes it both simpler and stronger (simpler for obvious reasons and stronger because every single card printed with banding is unplayably weak).
>>
>>54781195
>Teferi's Protection
Considering pic related is one of my all time fav cards, this is exactly right up my alley.

>thread question
Numbered Poisonous to return, and for Infect to be banished from existence forever.
The biggest problem with Infect is the ability to buff the creature, especially with combat tricks, to bypass Life and kill someone with a single swing.
Numbered Poisonous was far more balanced because no matter how big a creature got, it still dealt a static amount of poison.
>>
>>54781352

>Vampires you control have protection from Vampires
>at the beginning of your end step, target opponent creates 1/1 black Vampire creature token with deathtouch
>Whenever a Vampire dies, put +1/+1 counter on each Vampire you control

that's gonna get nutty real quick
>>
>>54781195
They totally could have bent the pie and make this blue as part of the Wizard deck and to make this playable in Teferi himself.
>>
>>54781679
You don't know that Teferi was a WU Walker in lore, do you?
This makes perfect sense in W, both in flavor and mechanics.
>>
>>54781550

They get slivercycling. Slivercycling isn't a creature type that the card can replace, but even if it was, that would give you a broken rule that does nothing because it would just be the word "vampire" hanging there.

To work how >>54781567 and >>54781575 suggest, the rule would need to be "sliver cycling" rather than "slivercycling"

>>
>>54781647
Doesn't white have the larger majority of "protection" cards
>>
>>54781709
So? You also can't play Teferi's Moat or Teferi's Care or Teferi's Honor Guard in a Teferi deck, are you gonna whine about that too?
>>
>>54781707
It says one creature type, but I think that's just awkward wording since you never chose.
>>
>>54781689
The reminder text says that slivercycling is used to search for slivers. So if what you're saying is true, The vamps will get slivercycling and end up searching for vampires anyway.
>>
>>54781732
That would require some actual insight on anon's part
>>
>>54781732
Yes, I do think that is also pretty dumb and hope we somehow get a new UW Teferi in Dominaria.
>>
>>54781662

The defensive part is dead easy to comprehend, just "When a creature with banding blocks, you control how combat damage is dealt by the attacking creature. "

The problem is how do you phrase banding to work with attacking creatures. Maybe just errata it so that "when a creature with banding attacks, any number of other creatures may join its Band. If one creature in a Band is blocked the entire Band is blocked. You control how combat damage is assigned to the Band."
>>
>>54781740
New Blood says "Change the text of that creature by replacing all instances of ONE creature type with Vampire."
>all instances of ONE creature type
>ONE creature type
So either Cat OR Rat, never both.
Never more than one type is changed.

And the commanders are shitty. Nigravamp is a worse Zurgo, Bounty is a worse Marchesa and both their arts are utter crap. Edgar looks good for a low level table but in the world of Atraxa, Breya and Meren, those tables don't exist anymore unless you play with literal retards.

The first block is about the five 3-colored khans of tarkir, with no dragons.

blue's control shenanigans aren't that strong when there's 3 other players to control. the fact that blue is still so dominant DESPITE the fact that the color revolves around fucking around with individual opposing players/permanents is truly a testament how biased the game was towards blue for so long

>>
>>54781876
This is a stupid argument. I do 90% of these things regularly in red and white.
>Red: You want to block? I don't like that mechanic, I'm going to ignore it.

>Red: You want to play a spell I don't like? Glorious End, you don't have a turn anymore. Why yes, I do run Sundial of the Infinite.
>White/Red: You have a boardstate that I don't like? I sacrifice Bearer of the Heavens and cast Boros Charm. Hope you weren't attached to those lands. Don't worry, I still have all of mine so I'll win quickly ;^)
>White: You want to destroy my thing? Indestructible/flicker are white abilities, you silly goat. How else am I supposed to protect myself from Swords?
All colors fundamentally fuck with the rules because that's how Magic rules WORK: the rules only take precedent until a card says they don't, so basically ALL cards overrule the base rules. Hell, by the first line about blocking you could say that FLYING is about ignoring the rule about creatures being able to block other creatures. Just fuck off with this.

the pic is right about blue playing an entirely different game than other colors, it just uses shit examples for it. blue is the only color that can comfortably sit back and feel unthreatened because it can stop any type of spell at any time. every other color will always have be threatened by board wipes, ETBs, instants/sorceries, big X spells that win games, etc. unless they carry specific silver bullets against them. blue, however, has a one-size-fits-all 2-mana instant spell that deals with any of those. most decks simply aren't suited to dealing with certain spells not resolving.

the fact that blue fangays are telling complainers to git gud or play something else than MTG is pretty weird considering blue's counterspells are an anomaly within the game. if anything, majority rules that blue players should leave.

Would not be the same thing. Since the player would be treated as if he doesn't exist, he wouldn't be able to perform any actions until he phases in again.
Would make for a sweet card though, could even cost only W.

I can't tell if these decks are a good thing or a bad thing for all tribal decks, outside of these four.

On one hand, it gives a lot of generic tribal tools that all tribal decks can use, and can likely patch some holes in tribes that were falling just a wee bit short.

On the other hand, it is going to make all tribal decks look incredibly similar to each other because they're all going to be using this great generic shit. Things will be less special.

It's like it promotes diversity of deck concepts while decreasing diversity inside actual tribal decks. Hmm.

You mean like Dragonlord Dromoka?
Blue has a relative monopoly on stack interaction: I personally think that could use some work in development. Red should get more doublers or redirect effects, white should also get more tax-based counterspells, green should be able to give spells hexproof, and black should... I don't know, they can come up with something for black that'll be just fine no matter what. But let's be clear: counterspells are annoying, but they're not the ur-answer in Magic, and people acting like blue is uniformly overpowered because it has exclusive access to them are blowing things out of proportion.

What source can you provide that supports your claim that vampire can't replace sliver within the word slivercycling? The rules for Xcycling seem already prepared to insert a word.
>>
>>54782182
MaRo is a Jew though, so he can't have phimosis.
>>
>>54782229
It's not just counterspells that are the problem, it's that Blue has universal answers to everything, even when MaRo said colors need weaknesses.
There's Polymorphist's Jest and Illusionist's Gambit for combat tricks, extra turn cards and draw cards for card advantage, and last ditch things like Cyclonic Rift for any other situation.
And no, Cyclonic is not okay, it's essentially "you all get to stop advancing the game, and instead have to re-play the entire game, while I get 3 free turns to combo out"
>>
>>54782193
It only gives a few generic tools while the decks also have several tribe-specific cards. Yes, those generic tribal cards are good, but they're only a few out of the 99.
>>
>>54781795

>>
>>54781937

I think blue's so good in EDH because of how flexible it is combined with being the best in card advantage. some of that is due to wizards giving blue anything weird for the first big chunk of the game.

>black is still probably the best color once people start trying very hard

I'd say black or green. I definitely think green is better than blue.
>>
>>54782212
>I believe he said that while bouncing was in color it was considered too strong
That's bullshit though. I know MaRo is just the PR guy, but some of his excuses are really shit.
>>
>>54782229
>You mean like Dragonlord Dromoka?

oh shut the fuck up, you aren't even trying

and yes, counterspells are the best answers in Magic. they have downsides, but they are so ridiculously efficient and flexible that it doesn't matter that you have to leave mana open for them. any good blue deck will have a way to use its mana in the end step prior to their turn anyway. and then there's the spells blue can answer but other colors can't.

i'm sure you'll move the goalposts to say that "blue isn't that good anyway, it can't even board wipe" or something soon
>>
>>54782273
Is that the 2-mana one-size fits-all instant that deals with anything? Because Cyclonic Rift doesn't do dick for board wipes, instants/sorceries, or big X spells that win games. Hell, it's not even very good until you're casting it for 6 mana or whatever, so he was clearly talking about Counterspell.
No, I don't like Cyclonic Rift either, but that's beside the point.

>oh shut the fuck up, you aren't even trying
Well, no, I'm not, it's really easy. I'm just doing this off the top of my head. That's why these posts are as long as they are.
I'm not really that invested in defending blue as much as I am saying it's not as bad as you're saying it is. It's annoying, sure, but it's not like a scourge of the game that's causing people to leave in droves or whatever. It's annoying to get time walked, or counterspelled, or remanded, whatever. I GET IT. I play R/W in EDH for fuck's sakes, you think I haven't had to deal with motherfuckers Time Stopping my lethal combats? Multiple times? I know what it's like!

But going on and on about how oh, blue is omnipotent is stupid, because it's not. It's frustrating to play against sometimes but that's normal. Just because it's easier to make a frustrating deck with blue doesn't mean you can't make one in black, or red, or green, or white. It just means that counterspells are frustrating.

Vampires in general are utter shit compared to dragons and cats.
Ramos and Ur Dragon are genuinelly good new cards worth building around. Arahbo may be OP, while Mirri and Nazahn are good build around cards that complete or improve an archetype.

On the other hand Nigravamp is a worse Zurgo Helmsmasher and a worse Karlov at the same time. And Mathas is a worse Queen Marchesa that neither holds control nor gives you card advantage half as well. Edgar is the only one semi-decent and it pretty much asks you to do the one thing vampires don't want to do in singleton: play go-wide aggro.

Precons are a good place to start with commander, they're generally at least kinda playable out of the box but low enough power that they can be as heavily upgraded as you wish with singles you like or even stuff you pull out of packs at things like prereleases.

There's many years of precons to look through though, don't limit yourself to just 2017 because it is the newest. Pick out the one that seems the most interesting to you, if the price hasn't risen to a retarded level (a good number of precons have).

Its powerful, but the power lies in the free token making in general, not the keyword. Thats why i said it was not a power level concern. Its a concern of him not synergizing at all with the life gain vampires which are the only reason he was made mardu in the first place. He does counters which vampires care about and he has aggressive which the innnistrsd vampires are. Giving the tokens lifelink was a low risk wsy to make the life campires not just vanilla sacks of meat.

There is no other life gain vampire tribal commander, and dedicated life gain decks wouldnt want to play him so he wouldnt be encroaching on that territory. Your point is moot.

I suggest using a different commander if possible. Daxos is by far the worst exp counter commander, due to how slow casting enchantments are, and how hes the only commander who doesn't get immediate benefit from having exp counters (have to spend more mana to actually spawn a token)

Anyways, lower the CMC as much as possible. This acts twofold, one it allows you to get as many exp counters as quickly as you can and helps free up mana to spawn tokens. A lot of rocks helps also.

Why is having a transgender character a problem?
>>
>>54783381
It's not the character. It's the vocal minority that will bitch and complain about having anything they want completely unrelated to the game's mechanics. Once they get what they want, they bitch about something else.

Case in point: Look at this video and skip to 39:45 and tell me how much faggotry you see.

I mind Alesha less than Narset. To me, Alesha is a tough grill who gives no fucks and just happens to actually be a man. She's a character who is trans. Narset seems much more written around being autistic. She's an autistic character.

I love newzilek mechanically but holy fuck is using that situational counter spell hard.

on a not commander related note:
I'm making a "brood" deck for each of the NUtitans (meaning the deck is built around a specific titan and their brood). I've successfully done so for newlamog (using BU ingest/process) and newrakul (RW hanweir meld) but I cannot for the life of me figure out how you build a kozilek brood deck and it's bugging me. Maybe UG?

What's wrong with autists? They are funny
>>
>>54783444
Because they're only doing it because it's "trendy", same with autism, it's "trendy". It trivializes something that has an overwhelmingly negative influence on people's lives (and in the case of autism, those around them) into a one-liner about a character. When I see autism in fiction, I don't feel included, I feel attacked, insulted, and tokenized.
>>
>>54783406
She cares about lifegain, but isnt vampire tribal. She likes large bursts of lifegain and to have access to a lot of it. You probably wouldnt play her in Edgar, and you definitely wouldnt play Edgar in her deck with or without lifelinking tokens. That qualifies as different enough for me.

>>54783444
Why is having a character identity and story rely only on the color of its skin\its sexuality\ its disability a problem?
Why is using tokens and tropes considered inclusive again?
>>
>>54783487
>something I never said
The problem is including an autist in order to include an autist. It's Tokenism 101.

Splice into Arcane, never got to use it because I started playing Magic at the start of 9th edition.

Phasing really isn't bad or hard to understand. Personally, I've missed it.

Daretti isn't fat though. He's a goblin with no legs.

>>54783491
It doesn't help that it's implied that her autism is what allows her to ascend. I honestly don't know how whoever decided that they needed an autistic character missed how offensive disability superpowers are.

>this person is autistic

This is the least realistic representation of an autistic person I've ever seen. What even is the point of having a character be autistic if they look like a super model? Name one autistic person that looks like this because every last one I've seen has been below average to ugly. Not trying to be mean it just seems to defeat the point of representing people with an unrealistic standard.

>>54783852

Are you sure she's autistic and not just detail-oriented?

Did I miss the discussion on this already?

Inalla, Archmage Ritualist
2UBR
Legendary Creature - Human Wizard
Eminence - Whenever another nontoken Wizard enters the battlefield under your control, if Inalla, Archmage Ritualist is in the command zone or on the battlefield, you may pay {1}. If you do, create a token that's a copy of that Wizard. The token gains haste. Exile it at the beginning of the next end step.

Tap five untapped Wizards you control: Target player loses 7 life.
This Eminence is insane, think Sundial is worth a slot?
