Herohammer was great. I miss that style of fantasy wargaming.

You know how you can't copyright rules? Why doesn't someone just release 5th ed with new fluff and a new setting?
>>
>>54758970
>A shitty one that doesn't make any sense or belong in Warhammer, which sums up half-breeds perfectly.

Halfbreeds aren't an issue in fantasy, because they're not massively widespread or focussed on. We know hey are a thing and they do happen, but it only serves to act as a function of character in most instances.

Also, having halfbreeds gives a good basis for arguing that vampirism can affect more than just humans.

Question for /wfrp/ers and general lore fiends - a player of mine has been tossing around the idea of having a character that's essentially a soul possessing it's own body after a fuck up by a local cult - trying to summon a demon, but the soul they sacrificed just got trapped back.

I kind of like the idea but I'm not sure how it'll work in the setting. Any comments on if it could?

if WHRP had rules for it, would you want to try playing as a Dark Elf slave - with the idea being that it was possible to escape and make your way from there back to the Old World, down to Lustria, or wherever you could manage to go?
>>
>>54772230
Eh, trying to be a human pet to a cute (and strong) dark elf like how gnoblars are pets to ogres seems more feasible.
>>
>>54772277
So you'd want to spend the whole gaming being a pet? Sounds a bit boring.
>>
>>54772310
As opposed to running into Lustria and getting eaten by a dinosaur?
How about an orc slave starting a rebellion?
>>
>>54772366
Sure, not getting eaten by dinosaurs is safe, but the game isn't quite made for just living day to day lives or anything. A little risk is part of the adventure!

I guess you could do that, but why not have a human or elf slave start a rebellion? Then there's room for a bit more skullduggery and sabotage, and there can be an end goal beyond 'fighting shit.'

>the true king of the elves turns out to be malekith all along

was this just GW trying to give another fuck you to its fans while burning down WHFB or is there meaning in it?
>>
>>54772586
Probably not. The Dark Elves aren't really American/Canadian at all, and Naggaroth looks almost nothing like North America. There are mountains about where the Rocky Mountains should be, and the Hudson Bay, but that's about it - it's actually probably one of the more original locations in Warhammer Fantasy, as far as how close it is to its real world counterpart is concerned.

The real reason, as far as I understand it, is that GW thought it'd be an interesting twist, and for some reason the High Elves got all the kicks. Their gods were never really with them, everything had been fucked over for them, and their champions were all rendered false and base.

It totally looks like the Hudson bay though - open to the outside ocean, the land around it kinda looks like that part of Canada. So what's with some of the units in Norsca that has the frost bite trait? how does that tie into the lore?
>>
>>54773944
I don't think it does, I think it's just a nifty mechanic added to make certain factions in the unit more unique.
>>
>>54773983
so what, no monsters in norsca really has the power to give their enemies freezing boners? Then isn't that pointless on Ca's part?
>>
>>54774111
I don't know off the top of my head trips, but sometimes CA has been tweaking the lore and mechanics. Like how Bretonnian infantry is shitty, but you don't use nearby knights to help keep them in line.

The frostbite thing isn't pointless - it's a mechanic that helps set the faction apart, and it probably would be fitting for some icy units. And it could potentially be reused for some Kislevite units in the future.
>>
>>54774212
>potentially be reused for some Kislevite units in the future

HOLY 4D CHESS, LORE OF ICE CONFIRM!!

>Bretonnian infantry is shitty
because they are peasants?
>>
>>54774111
I can't recall any off of the top of my head from the RPG, and the RPG is where most information on Norsca comes from since it's never had a specific army in WFB.
It's not pointless any more then then making units of 100+ people instead of the 20-odd (or less) model units that were likely to be in the wargame.

They're just making a cool thing for the game, that's all. Nothing wrong with it.

Men-at-Arms with Swords (Shields) cannot compete, and with a Grail Reliquae I've seen them keep fighting on into the single digits - even without it, they can be trusted to hold the line a lot longer than most. Even from a design standpoint they're great, since most Men-at-Arms look exactly alike, and they really stand out with their high collars and bright colors.

I suspect Drach had a slow, steady power decline. He is supposed to be older than the arrival lf the Old Ones and led Demon Armies without drinking the coolaid.

By the time of Drachenfels, even when he first gets 'dropped' by Oswald he's basically just an old hermit in a shack on a hill.

Drach was prpbably a beast in his prime to survive as long as he had and to amass the armies he had, but that first smackdown by Sigmar...he never really got over it.

So have you ever used fimir in one of your games? Did you use the warpstone take on them, WFRP 1e's take, Chaos tainted ones, something elae?

How'd they go over, and we're they fun for you and your group?

Question I asked in the other thread too.

I'm interested in doing an Araby campaign for Mordheim, and wanted to know what minis would make for good camels for going alongside WHFB plastics.

What kind of magic item might a Grey Seer have for WFRP?

I have never played WFRP but if I were DM'ing I'd give them Warpstone Tokens that if they were chewed on would grant them a bonus on casting spells with a higher miscast chance

I used the Firmir as one of the major factions alongside Skaven and Gobbos in a 'Dark Beneath the World' campaign. A modified take of them based on 1ed WFRP with a dabble of moleman thrown in.

Players were a bit meh on the concept, until they discovered the Firmir raiding a skaven den and getting their hands on a broodmother. Then they started to get interested.

I like them as an evil race that still hates most of humanity's foes and has a complex, tainted kinship with them. They hate Chaos as betrayers and destroyers. They hate greenskins for the same reason everyone does. They loathe the sterility made overwhelming by the undead. They even hate the skaven, who they have warred with.

Friendless, doomed, bitter. But not dead yet.

As of modern lore, the answer is 'unknown.' As far as anyone knows, it's never been attempted, or at least never succeeded. See: Night's Dark Masters.

>>54763823
This anon is technically correct, but that lore predates modern vampire or dwarf lore. Back then dwarfs could use magic and some adventurers did, and the vampire origin and bloodlines did not exist.

I doubt if dwarfs or Halflings could be made vampires, being inherently unmagical by nature. Elves might be able to, but the one example even in the End Times was retconned as a mistake. Skaven make an interesting case, as unbelievably powerful they are in dark magic. However, it's worth remembering the elixir was made for HUMANS, and may be less than worthless to other kinds.
>>
>>54779034

Either they go to the halls of their ancestors or reside in the grave awaiting the call of Grungi, Valaya, and Grimnir to rise and do battle when the End Times arrive. Sources differ.

But seriously, I'd say there could be an argument made, given the nature of their Old One Uplifting Origins, that half-breeds + cross species vampirism could be possible for the same reasons. Really a GMs call though, but it could make for some interesting characters.

Question: how old is the dwarfs turning to stone because of magic lore? Chaos Dwarfs are a bit of an odd case because the argument could be made that they're turning because of the nature of their deal with Hashut - especially since that lore and dwarf magicians existing were contiguous.

>>54779170
For a player I'd keep it lowkey. Playing as a grey seer already gives them a lot of push over others, throwing a magical weapon onntop might just piss off other players.

They're both Britain. Albion is pre-Roman picts and Celt eek ooks. The High Elves clearly imitate Britain with their global Empire, naval supremacy, lion symbolism, conflicts with the continent, and diminishing power. Hell, they even have rebels in the Americas. Of course it's not 1:1, their royalty more closely resembles Japan.
>>
>>54779728
What does Warhammer's Japan have? Even less passing mentions than WH's China?

Seems like it should be a second Albion, Truthsayer style servants of the Old Ones leading Oni's, Spirits and mortal ninjas (including KAMIKAZE individuals strapped with containers of blasting powder) to protect the stones built to keep Chaos restrained.
Ships that try to land on the island for loot & conquest are frequently sunk by mysterious "divine winds".

Okay someone with more legal knowledge that me explain something. GW obviously squatted WHFB cause all the stuff in it barring a few things were not copyright friendly. They wanted a setting where they could squeeze out third party sellers without having to sue each individual one for copyright infringement.
Has that actually happened? Have third party sellers for AoS dried up? Cause it seems to me that they killed a decades old setting, rebranded everything with lame copyright friendly names, altered the rules, and it still hasn't solved the problem they set out to correct, since third party sellers still exist. If anything, they created competitors in terms of both rules and minis due to the backlash.
Or was it all just a bunch of Kirby stupidity that Roundtree now has to manage?

The derpy thing is many of the things they sell are fairly iconic, or at least good for general-purpose use. Stuff like Wood Elves, Giants, etc, are all easy to co-opt for D&D games or otherwise.

The real issue WHFB had was that it was a system where you "needed" lots of identical minis for rank-and-file bonuses but they were effectively glorified wound-counters, and 8th skewed the game even more towards big blocks & blockbusting spells, while making maneuver matter even less. Which in itself led to relatively boring games.

It's not like anything is stopping them from hopping back on that train. GW's problem is, and has always been, that they won't drop prices or make their rules accessible. It's always been "offer less plastic for more money, and buy these increasing expensive books with angel skin binding".

Now that there is a game out where you can experiment with army builds and battle formations, tons of people are interested in seeing their army on a table top, which conveniently isn't that easy to do since they stopped supporting anything that isn't age of shitmar.

Would be really easy to turn around though. I mean all you have to do is use your pre-existing logistics network to sell a bunch of cheap plastic to people who want to buy it based on branding and a computer game. TWW is the exact technological shot in the arm the game needed to push armies: something that lets you play before you pay 500$ for an army, and gives you the experience you can sort of expect on a table top.
>>
>>54778533

I think there's a high chance of Araby being a DLC faction for TWWII.
For one thing, the map covers the Southlands. And Araby is right in the middle of the action - directly between the Southlands, Ulthuan, the Land of the Dead and the Old World.
CA have also shown their willingness both to include minor factions with a barebones roster at release that they expand later (Bretonnia) and to create new brand new material that GW barely covered (Norsca).

Also they can't proxy Araby with Empire troops like they did with Tilea, Estalia and Kislev. And with Norsca they've already invested in the skeleton and animations for elephants.

Imperial slavers exist, though often working in a clandestine manner. Apparently a common tactic is to import Bretonnian peasants who, used to serfdom, cooperate quite well.

Several ports are known for their scum and villainy economies, among them Marienburg and Erengrad, but also Mousillon.

Sartosa, the famous freeport, sees sales in flesh.

Other than Warmaster, the only notable items about Araby were: There exist "Dust Goblins" that specialize in charms and curses (Orcs&Goblins, 8th ed), Magic Carpets (8th edition), and several nomadic tribes include the Fuzzy Wuzzies and the Al'rahem (Town Cryer). Oh, and magic lamps and monkey paws of course.

At least Relics of the Crusades tried to give names that made some sense, even if it was a Fanatic supplement. Turjuks = Turk Seljuks = Best horse archers. Muzils = Mutazilites = the most scholarly/rational, etc.

They definitely could have used some minis. Even a few headswaps and conversion guides.

>>

Originally it was actually an Empire unit. The Imperial College of Engineering used it as a platform for students to field-test assorted experimental weapons, from the Man-Catcher to the Long Rifle. (Of course, in 6th edition, you could mount such a platform on top of a Steam Tank).

IIRC, Kislev only got a dissimilar War Wagon only for Warmaster.

I kinda like both. The classic, cartoony color scheme has its charm, and brings some fond nostalgia welling up. I think the art from the HoC and Beastmen books in 6th are permanently burned into my subconscious.

I guess the Empire War Wagon is taking inspiration from the Hussite Wagenburgs and the Kislev one is from the Polish-Lithuanian/Cossack Tabors.

Basically they were used a lot in Eastern Europe in the 15-17th centuries, mainly in places with flat, open land. And they were more like the Warmaster model for Kislev than the Empire one. And you need a few to link together into a proper fortification.

Well, the silver lining is that if GW pulls the license from Creative Assembly, it's not like they can't just do Total War: Generic Fantasy.

It's truly mind boggling that they're prepared to just toss away an amazing setting just because not enough elements were copyrightable. I mean they don't even step up their game when competitors start undercutting them on stupid little plastic men, they sue or drop the line entirely. TWW is amazing just because it gets the concept of the battle line so much better than table top game itself ever did.

Ah, right. Al Muktar's Desert Dogs. IIRC it was also a case of Mighty Whitey, as Al Muktar was a Marienburger who developed an extreme tolerance to pain due to surviving boarding school hazings, and that just happened to coincide with certain prophecies of theirs.

Oh yeah, and Paymaster Mydas the Mean was accompanied by Shiekh Yadosh, whom Mydas is trying to pay off some fantastic debt to.

But yeah, Arabyans. Flying carpets, disgustingly rich, and harems and the odd desert raider. They definitely could have been expanded to be less than caricature.

Oh yeah, 7e Vampire Counts had the Silver Princess, a Lahmian who requested hospitality for a night with her mysterious veiled soldiers that were totally not skeletons.

>Elephants are an exotic creature even in Araby for they come from the lush bushlands that lie between Araby and the jungles of the Southlands. The Sultans like to collect all kinds of wild and monstrous beasts, and they eagerly compete against each other when it comes to maintaining the largest and most impressive herd of Elephants.

From WHFB, the only thing we have is there are Tiger beastmen that occasionally defend as well as attack Ind villages. That's it. Of course, Ind and Cathay were always the "other", distant and mysterious but Araby at least attempted to invade Estalia...
>>
>>54784346
Wouldn't be all that desperate - early Arabian culture was heavily based on Persian culture, and plenty of later successors and breakaway states tried to claim a Persian connection. There's even some humor in a Turkish warlord kidnapping a shitton of scholars just so he can have his capital be a center of learning, because hey that's what the Persians would do, right?

I think the Arabyans could use some Moorish stuff, and it's obvious there's some hints of standard Middle East stuff and even Ottomans, because why fucking not pick things from different eras and cultures. Could be a fun thing to explore if people could get past their modern fears.

Depends on the timeframe really
Ancient history was
>muh elephants
>muh longbowmen
medieval history was
>muh light cavalry
>muh medium infantry + longbowmen
>muh armored elephants.
Warhammer history is when the mughals invaded northern india and southern indian kingdoms and especially the vijayanagara empire began using european gunners for their armies.

Ind would be interesting because you could do things like construct embassies and gain access to foreign troops and improve relations with them.
>build empire embassy in your capital and get access to artillery.
>build high elf embassy to gain access to magic dragon
>build cathayan embassy to gain rocket artillery.
with the tradeoff being that the more embassies of a faction you construct, the worse your relations get with other factions.

Oh and india was also known for it's steel and metalworking throughout history.

Historically, the Mauryan dynasty booted the Seleucids out of what is Pakistan nowadays. They had elephants in an auxiliary role, but their main advantage was massed longbows with bronze bodkins. Basically they did Agincourt before it was Agincourt.

The rest depends on what period of time you're thinking of. Elephants are a thing, but in practice not the best. The Mughal Empire first truly became a thing after the First Battle of Panipat, when Babur used the Hussite playbook, and defeated the preexisting dynasty with a ton of War Wagons, and supporting light cavalry to rout the survivors and capture baggage trains. Way later in the 3rd Battle of Panipat, the Mughals lost a large force to a bunch of Afghan raiders, which had mounted freaking *swivel cannons* on the backs of camels. Some of said cannons were breechloaded, and could fire canister shot too. There's no kill like overkill!

Among other random "cool toys" from India, the Urumi was basically a superflexible "sword" (imagine a Sister of Sigmar "steel whip"), and the Kingdom of Mysore had cast-iron rocket launchers. In fact, the British reverse-engineered the Mysorean rockets, resulting in the Congreve.

It probably just means that they can't take on the Grail Quest, being a servant of another deity, and if they joined the Knights of the Blazing Sun, they'd either lose property because they can't properly maintain their feudal loyalties as part of the Knights of the Blazing Sun, or Bretonnia just wouldn't have the social protocols in place for such a thing and wouldn't treat it as anything different, or treat the guy as a Questing Knight but for another religion.

More Empire units, of course. Just like how, as long as you're in the right stance, you can recruit new Bretonnian units while you're in the middle of fucking Norsca. Or how if the provience is Chaos-tainted enough, even if it's down in the Badlands, you'll get Chaos Warrior-style uprisings.

If you're trying to open things up to lore discussion, they'd probably just co-op the knightly class while stripping away the noble side of things because Marienburg isn't into nobility, and let Bretonnian peasants continue on as they always have, with Men-at-Arms serving in their private militia.

Interesting question: Back in 6th ed, the Marienburg variant army was unique since it couldn't take any knights, but could take Regiments of Renown as core (which is about as balanced as it sounds. Dem Galloper Guns). So you could do Maurices Linear Tactics if you so desired. They also had cheaper Greatswords that did not have Stubborn.

I imagine that if they did conquer Bretonnia, they would start with the cities, and start by "liberating" the merchant classes. You would get more "saboteur" type units (funfact, "sabotage" is a French word for throwing shoes into the cogs of machinery), and probably cheaper "conscript-grade" handgunners, and Mounted Yeomen taking Spear&Pistol. I would imagine a Marienburg "liberation" of Bretonnia would kickstart them into a more grimdark French Republic.

One thing to remember is that the Bretonnian merchant class is a lot more advanced than the rest of Bretonnia. And they have greater ties to the Old World at large.
So in the interest of integrating Bretonnian territory into a Marienburg 'empire', I imagine they would depose the nobility and raise the more sympathetic elements of the merchant class to leadership. Which means more gunpowder. And maybe professional armies. Basically just reinstate some of the older, pre-5th edition Bretonnian units.

I've never gotten the love of the late Middle Ages so many people have - it's an interesting period, but people seem enamored with the aesthetic and disappointed that Bretonnia is stuck back in the 13th-14th century. And have boners for sallets.

Granted, a lot of this stuff is present in Bretonnia's earliest, earliest lore, since they were essentially historical miniatures brought into Warhammer. It made them bland as fuck, since they didn't even have the quest for the grail or battle pilgrims or anything interesting about Bretonnia in those early days, but they did have cannons and crossbows and proper foot troops.
>>
>>54785668
Maybe I should have brought up something about this knight hunting vampires specifically? With fists that burned like the sun.
>>
How would witch hynter/ warrior priest react to being turned into vampire?
>>
>>54785805
Suicide, probably. If vampires aren't turning someone that's already twisted enough to want to be a vampire, then they're doing it as a sort of torture, like Ushoran once did.
>>
>>54785710
Well, the topic in question is what Bretonnia would look like if conquered in part by Marienburg. So giving them a technological boost seems obvious.

I can't say I don't have a sallet boner though. Just look at those curves. Only a good Corinthian helmet comes close.
>>
>>54785710
Compare Bretonnia and the Empire.

Both are historical but in an exaggerated way. Both have fantasy elements, and in fact Bretonnia is even more fantastic with warrior demigods and Feyfolk.

What the Empire has going for it is more exciting models like the Steam Tank, and beyond that it is a far less mainstream inspiration. Bretonnia is Minas Tirith is Stormwind is Arthur is King Lear.
Empire is...pretty much obscure indie flicks and some very niche and obscure RPGs.

If they had given Bretonnia two or three great centerpiece models that give folks looking at the game knowing nothing about it a kitbuilding boner and made the posterboy subfaction (like Altdorf for Empire, Von Carstein for Vampire Counts, Eataine for High Elves) more interesting then Brets would have done far better.

Fuck, a Vermintide level in Bretonnia probably would have increased sales if Brets hadn't been squatted. As it is I really wonder how good the Perry twins have been doing on sales since TWW Brets were released.
>>
>>54785710
Cannons and crossbows are old hat, they are better off without them compared to other factions..

And no infantry? Knights can fight on foot in multiple versions of the game, I mean the knights can't always be in the saddle, you can't ride your horse out of a siege tower onto the narrow parapets of a fortress wall, there are times when you as a chivalrous warrior of the lady have to fight on foot.
The computer game has those "Squires" infantry units which are just rebranded versions of the older foot knight units.

It always ends up being a confusing question of 'why is Bretonnia backwards in the first place' once I try considering moving it forward. Cultural inertia and tradition can only explain so much - rules about gunpowder don't apply to things like armor, even if you can argue that Bretonnia's plate armor isn't that shoddy. But there's also been hints in the lore of Bret merchants using cannons and rifles, so maybe things are more advanced than we think, but tradition keeps it subdued instead of obvious? I don't know. I'd still make it cruder than Empire stuff, especially since I can't see Marienburg being that eager to give recently-conquered Brets shiny toys.

The sallet does nothing for me, and I've actually started disliking it recently since I've started realizing how common it really is, and how much more there is beyond it. But that's just my personal autism.

>>54785840
I kind of wonder why GW didn't do it, but I guess they didn't really know what to do, considering how they kept on sticking with the 'exaggerated middle ages' theme. They didn't want to explore knighthood cranked up to 11, or adding more magic or monsters. Then again, the Tomb Kings got a lot of big and sexy models, but they still got squatted, even though those got me interested in Tomb Kings when I was starting out.

There are a lot of 3rd party minis and stuff, but...I don't know, they feel like knockoffs to me rather than legitimate replacements. And some things are hard to replace, like Grail Pilgrims and Questing Knights. You can kind of capture it, but it's not the same.

I think the problem is GW loves their main characters and treats everyone else like Robin or Alfred, so when the Empire became the more important faction, then the most, then the setting protagonists, they had to make the Empire more special. They did so largely by making the Empire the most "modern" race with the loosest restrictions on alliance and behavior while making Bretonnia stiff and controlled, gave everything shared to Empire exclusively, and focused most writing on them.

They married Empire to Dwarfs and Bretonnia to Elves, but whereas Dwarfs and Empire share plots quite often the High and Dark Elves remained together in their own plot and Wood Elves were indirectly tied to Bretonnia until End Times leaving Bret stories with little substance and making Bretonnia a distant place like Albion rather than a hub of plots like the Empire.
>>
>>54785958
In terms of gunpowder: firearms were pretty shitty for a long time. They are pretty good against armour though. The Empire has foes that make use of armour: chaos warriors, kislevites, themselves, even dwarfs.
The Bretonnians, by contrast, don't really face enemies with armour. They fight Orcs and Beastmen. Even when they fight among themselves, they don't actually want the peasants to be able to kill the enemy knights. They'd rather take them to ransom in proper chivalric style. And they certainly don't want any peasants getting ideas.

I think it makes sense that the Bretonnian nobility want to avoid the great leveller that is gunpowder.

Counterpoint, guns were fairly useful starting in 1200 but for one thing and one thing alone. Defending fixed positions.

Every civilization that used a great deal of guns before 1670 did so mostly just to defend fortified positions. They were only brought out offensively against armor, but inaccuracy and malfunctions in the field not to mention bullet resistant armor existing made it rare.

Bretonnia using guns when they have fucktons of castles makes far more sense than the Empire with only their biggest cities having stone walls.

>>54786316
They got a big long coastline, and a lot of old fluff.

Considering how Bretonnia was strongly united early on, had a big naval battle with the Tomb Kings in their early history and suffer regular Norscan raids, it wouldn't be surprising to me that unlike the fractious Empire they'd managed to unite their whole country behind the industry necessary to put together a powerful navy, and by dint of that they managed to keep up with the technological advancements of the Empire to keep themselves competitive. Their coastline is long and they can put some serious effort into one navy, where the Empire was quarreling and still technically has two naval fleets, and relied mainly on rich Marienburg for their naval advancements.
>>
>>54786343
How do their navies compare to Norsca, Tilea and Estalia? All of those have an even larger proportion of their territory being coastline and Tilea and Estalia aren't technophobes.
>>54786428
I'm asking in terms of how their are modifiers for settlement population in WHFRP 2nd Edition that affect how easy it is to find equipment for purchase. It wouldn't make sense for Elves and Dwarfs to have less availability towards rare equipment than humans and Skaven so presumably, the double thing is also used with that chart so that the populations start at 200 and multiply by 10 for each level that equipment becomes more common in Skaven settlement unlike with humans where it starts at 100.

>>
>>54786542
Remember that Tilea and Estalia are a bunch of city states, and spend a lot of their combined naval power resisting Arabyan corsairs and Saratosan pirates - and even then they're part of different kingdoms and city states, so while all together they might be a match for Bretonnia or the Empire, they'd never come together so. Norsca has a similar problem, especially since its naval might is focused around raiding, and most anyone who's suffered their raiding in the past has been working to counteract them specifically.

The whole of Bretonnia's territory not along the Grey or Black Mountains is coastline, with Bordelaux and L'Anguille serving as two major ports. Because old fluff or later wrangling of lore assuming it's kept, they do make use of cannons on their ships, except for their lowest class of vessel which is crewed by prisoners with a catapult. All old as fuck lore, but still solid enough, especially in how bigger Bretonnian ships are treated kind of like knights would treat their horses, and apparently are very daring and glory-seeking.
>>
>>54786542
Estalia and Tilea are fractured collections of city-states. While they do have the ships, they don't have the naval institutions.

Sartosa is notable as being Pirate Island, while the Corsair Port of Lashiek is basically Barbary Pirates.

Estalia does have Santa Magritta in Lustria, while Norsca has Skeggi. There are a few other towns there as well. The Empire has Sudenburg in the Southlands, and there's very vague Man O' War lore that a Bretonnian admiral had estates in the Southlands.

But I still wouldn't say any power is a colonial one, especially considering the time period. Colonialism, in a very loose sense, is about the control of territory and all that comes from it enriching the prestige of the controlling power. I'd argue that what's going on in the Warhammer world is more like mercantilism - the idea being that you're trying to enrich the motherland specifically, bringing rare goods and objects back to it.

Sounds like a pedantic difference, but no Warhammer power is trying to carve out swaths of foreign territory - they probably don't even have the manpower to take advantage of that, beyond perhaps a few small places. They just want a few settlements and small colonies so they can get access to whatever they want from Lustria or other areas.

The squire thing is in a confusing place - most of the wargame associated lore says 'no squires, they just go straight to Knights Errant.' There were technically squires in 5th edition, but they were more of a precursor to Yeomen, having the same role as light cavalry while also taking on a role as skirmishers. Aside from the fact that they could potentially become a knight, they aren't really treated like traditional squires, and the later lore about Yeomen believing if they work hard enough they'll become a knight (which isn't true) is enough in my mind to seal the deal that Yeomen are descendants and replacers of the concept.

WHRP is mixed between 'no squires,' and 'squires sometimes,' without really clarifying the latter in the Bretonnian context. There's still the standard fluff pieces about going straight to Knights Errant before going Knights of the Realm, which is obviously distinct from the Empire and mentioned as such...but there are also a few squire characters mentioned, and within the rules one has to be a Squire before they can be a Knight Errant. Whole thing could be solved with a line about them being armed servants rather than knights-to-be, or even just clarifying it was a necessity of the career path system rather than based on actual lore, but eh.

And then you have Foot Squires in Total Warhammer, which throws things into a whole new mess. The lore about them is very vague, and they're kind of treated like handpicked Yeomen more than the traditional squire concept. Maybe they're what everyone wanted the squire idea for Bretonnia to be all along, but to me they still feel like they were included to give Bretonnia a better unit, and they could have been named just about anything for how much the squire title actually matters. I have my own headcanon on the subject, but of course no one cares.

Goblins=Grots
Giants=Gargants
Ogres=Ogors
Vampires=Soulblight
Ghosts=Nighthaunts
Dwarfs=Duardin
Dryads=Sylvaneth
Lizardmen=Seraphon

Humans and Skaven are the only things that kept their own name.

Its the same as them changing Imperial Guard to Astra Mitarium and Space Marines to Adeptus Astartes, except those were already called that in-universe wheras these are just kind of the new names for no reason that everyone apparently uses now.

My headcanon is that they're middle-class city dwellers who have the money and means to afford better equipment and training for themselves than shitty Men-at-Arms, and refuse to serve as such when they can do better. Bretonnia takes a while coming up with an answer to this, since their system is really only set up for peasant levies and feudal knights, not volunteers, but then end up declaring them squires. Sometimes they actually serve as squires, sometimes it's little more than an honorary title to explain their place in the machine. It also kind of explains why you can only get Foot Squires in Total Warhammer with a large enough city.

youre supposed to argue subjective things like if malekith did anything wrong

Eldar was a long time coming though, that actually is Tolkien copyright.

That being said the rename should have been something not stupid, like Elder.

I don't see how what I was saying wasn't true. The squire thing is a mess - even if you feel that the Foot Squires thing solves it all perfectly and there's no need to question it, it was a mess up until that point, with sources contradicting each other and variations by edition.

Elfdar

I support it.

Eldar is given Scandinavian and Turkic name.

Don't bother, he's just trying to stir shit up.

They should have made a unit of Foot Knights a Regiment of Renown in Total Warhammer.

Isn't there a particular Region where the chivalrous knights specialize in fighting together on foot in mighty armoured formations because the terrain is so bad for horses?

Closet we've got is very old lore. And a few odd kitbashes. Maybe you could argue Prince Rodrick and friends in, but he'd be so out of his time.

I'd say if I was going to try and mod it in, I'd take the Chaos Chosen and dampen their stats down a bit, with a slight increase in numbers.

There are beastslayers squires unit added.

>none of them are based on the alright End Times units, just stuff they obviously made up on the spot

Sad.

Craftworlders, Commorites, and Cegorachi. I mean, Drukhari is just silly as fuck.
>>
>>54787749
Wait, fuck, Companions of Quenelles are in there, I'm retarded. They've got one.
>>
>>54787749
Interestingly there was a Bretonnian unit in 3rd edition called Rapscallions. At least the End Times used something with precedent there.

Hey now, don't you see the evil soul-eating sadism coming off from his eyes?
>>
>>54787807
I liked that bit of lore, and I think they did make use of it a bit. There was even a Peasant Archers unit that had tried to run off and be bandits, and got stuck with the Outlaw title so they'd remember their fuckup.

Can't say how lore-friendly those guys are, but they're looking to be amazing in the multiplayer matchups.

So, I started to work on the marienburg mod. Thoughts on the unit's looks?
>>
>>54788365
Looks okay so far.
>>
>>54788365
They look a bit Bretonnian.
The Mordheim models give all the Marienburgers waffenrocks like pic related. I'm not sure there's anything in the game that will match that though.
They could do with more red in their uniforms too. And the biggest hats you can find.

Sorry for being hyper-critical.

i find the Bretonnian high medieval aesthetics pretty cool, and honestly late period "white armour" is visually quite boring, but holy shit are those Bretonnian peasants awful models. 14th century infantry looked gorgeous, and instead we got retarded mutants in aprons

the hats can come in later. I am a pretty big noob at variantmeshes and editing in general.

here's a high tier unit that is a WiP. I plan on adding stuff from tomorrow's release.
