Read theory, put theory into practice, make note of what works and what doesn't for your table, repeat
That's basically all you need to do to become a better DM
Also make sure to inject your fetishes into the game at every available opportunity
Just be considerate of your players.

Had a guy who always played a wise old wizard and would never ever speak in the game unless specifically asked to.

however, in one case I played a very non shy "face" sort of character and I got very little attention.

It's really just this. Know what kind of theme the players will enjoy, pick a game system that they'll find fun, and incorporate each of their characters into the plot. Do these three things and your players will love you every time.
