How do beastmen numbers grow so quickly? Do their victims/beastwomen gestate quickly or do they just grow really fast compared to humans?
>>
>>54729505
they hide in forests and increase their numbers.
Since most of them flee when the battle goes poorly they have all the time in the world to run away.
>>
>>54729496
Pay taxes or you'll get your name into the book
>>
>>54729496
Every Lord of every hold can decide his tax policy

Thorgrim believs in the right compensation for a good work. All miners and craftsmen pay him a tithe on the earnings made dealing with humans, and he oversees trade amond dwarf clans.

His own clan trades in runic objects and its prices are as exorbitant as its quality
>>
>>54729505
>>54729539
Speaking of victims, is enslaving for that purpose still a thing in a wink wink manner or is it retconned completely? I mean the Fimir are still a thing and are going to be in Norsica, although I'm not so sure they'll actually mention them being literal rapefish in their description.

How was Mighty Empires? The 1990 Strategic game, not the 2007 release?

I love my Warhams, but after digging out my Battletech Battleforce box and playing the strategic level campaign there, I want the same thing in a Fantasy setting and Google told me this existed.
>>
>>54729505
>beastwomen gestate quickly
Maybe yes, maybe not, probably.

Also consider that major source of beastmen are chaos wastes where things like linear time have not that much meaning.
So last ride of Archaon could be result of millions of years of breading and mustering armies of chaos, while in Empire it was 200 years since Magnus the Pious.

So there is logical reason to say:
>ther is as many beastman/demons/maruders as plot demands
While order factions by logic(that is never used in fantasy writing) have manpower cap.
>>
>>54729505
Beastmen reproduce in a lot of ways.

1.) Beastwomen. They have litters of children.
2.) Human women. They may or may not have litters.
3.) Gave children. Mutants who exhibit beastly traits are often abandoned in the forest to die or to be 'saved' by others of their 'kind.' Beastmen actually do, and have a supernatural ability to show up in time.
4.) Spontaneous mutation, the 'turnskin.' A human becoming a beastman suddenly and spontaneously.
5.) Mutant joiners. Adult humans who join warherds due to being mutants. Often they tend to mutate in beastly ways, though if they have no horns or beastly features at all they're treated as less than brays.
>>
>>54729715
Chaos Dwarfs are obviously semitic, anon. No one was disputing that.

Anon, shekels are a term often used for ancient currency. I've looked at translations of cuneiform tablets as part of a bit of museum work, and most follow that exact form.

That is what I said.
But chaos have quite good and reasonably unreasonable in universe justification for it, while order do not.
>>
>>54729406
There are humans in the middle. Not outright killing each other and still helping via proxy is much better than how it used to be.
>>
>>54730363
Humans being in the middle is exactly the only reason they are not trying to kill each other
>>
>>54729366
I like Gotrek more, but Tyrion would absolutely wipe him out. Nigga is the true heir to Aenarion. He'd beat him so hard Gotrek's entire ancestral line would feel it.
>>
>>54729406
Finubar, Alarielle and Aliathra tried anything they could to settle relations with Dawi.
>>
>>54730407
Gotrek Starbreaker or Gurnisson?
>>
>>54730327
Should clarify that I've also used the currency to refer to an amount or weight, i.e. ten shekels weight of wool, two shekels of silver. That and the repetition of the Chaos Dwarf's name and title makes it very obvious it's supposed to be Mesopotamian to me (some tablets said the name of their writer, and then included their seal at the end again, or 'in the name of the king')

>Gotrek
>Getting beaten by hissy fit: the elf
>>
>>54730425
Either. Gotrek Starbreaker's greatest feat is defeating the least competent elf king ever, and while I love Gurnisson, he's simply not on Tyrion's level.
>>
>>54730425
Tyrion has no chance against either of them

I mean in 6th he didn't have a chance even against Thorgrim
>>
>>54730495
You don't really know who Gotrek is and what he does do you
>>
>>54730225
Well more often than not the forces of order are on the defensive in stories for that reason
>>
>>54730495
>defeats a Greater Daemon of Khorne in combat - twice
>defeats a Greater Daemon of Slaanesh in combat, it runs away to avoid being banished
>defeats Be'lacuck in combat, denying him godhood

Tyrion isn't fit to brush Gotrek's pubes.
>>
But what happens if Gotrek draws Widowmaker?
>>
>>54730560
He becomes ultimate bishonen Khaine + bara Grimnir sex symbol.
>>
>>54730560
That is a nice question. What happens if anyone but an elf draws widowmaker? does the curse still affect them? Could they draw the sword at all?

To answer your question, He could kill all the four chaos gods and finish what aenarion couldn't while riding a magical unicorn of destruction
>>
So what ever happened to Brunner and Mathias Thulmann in The End Times? Also, how did C.L. Werner end up writing Deathblade and not Rise of the Horned Rat, considering how much he loves writing skaven.
>>

Yeah, for me the biggest difficulty with dwarves is managing all the shit you have. I just turned all my coastal cities into fortresses to stop the 3-stack Norscans from immediately ruining them, while I started crusading north to deal with undedibles and chaos.

Also the mod for the Norse Dwarves is neat, I just wish it didn't have the same victory conditions regular dwarves have. I like the last-stand feel I have with them that I get when playing as Kislev.

Are mods to make Krell not crumble required, or is Krell fine without them? It bothers me on some level that Krell is a regular (if beefy) summon, instead of a permanent summon, or better yet a legendary hero.

Now some Gotrek fag should post his strongest adversary so we can compare.
Also he fought but did he win, and If, was it decisive victory?
>>
>>54732607
He won twice, one time in Warp, other in Naggarond.
>>
>>54732579
It's never bothered me that he's a bit crumbly - as long as you aren't using him recklessly, you can easily slap him with an Invocation of Nehek, something you'll probably be doing to keep the rest of your army buffed up anyway, and Kemmler has a few minor abilities that help with keeping his army healthy anyway, if I remember right.

And the fact that he's a summon does have its uses - he'll always be at full health whenever you summon him, so you don't have to worry about going into battle with him with low health due to a few rough battles. If he dies, you don't have to wait for him to recover from his wounds. It can be a little frustrating that you can't have him level up, or give him any unique equipment, but I guess that's the trade off, and if you want you could still give Kemmler a regular Wight King.
>>
>>54732389
Gotrek is currently still in the immaterium, slaughtering countless daemons.
>>
>>54732728
He was broken to shards like Khaine from 40k.
>>
>>54732670
How well does he scale compared to a regular Wight King? Will a higher leveled Wight King do better than him, or does he remain competitive as the game progresses?

In my perfect world, I would've made a Krell a hero Kemmler would unlock like his sword, cloak, and staff.

But that doesn't mean I'm not unsatisfied with TW:W, I'm actually quite happy with it.

I honestly don't know - I haven't experimented enough with it, and melee heroes rarely seem like a gamechanger to me. All I know is that, playing against Kemmler when he's an NPC, Krell doesn't change the tide of battle much, though he can break a unit if you aren't careful. And considering you can summon Krell from the very beginning of the game, it stands to reason that he either levels up with Kemmler, or his stats are relatively low and stay low.

Overall TW:W is a great game, and I love playing it - even when most games generally all go the same way, sometimes there's just enough variety to keep me surprised and excited. But again, most games go the same way, and I don't feel like changing the difficulty does much more than, well, make things harder - it doesn't change how most factions act, beyond your usual foes being tougher.
>>
>>54732970

What we really need for the late game is have other factions 'blob up', that way there will be other massive powers to challenge you when you get to that point.

Sadly it's more likely that everyone falls apart.

Depends on the faction you play, I guess, but overall you're right. I would have enjoyed having ruined areas getting resettled by resurgent Empire provinces after you deal with Archaon, or have Bretonnia take control penalties to recreate the peasant rebellions that happened after the Storm of Chaos. Shake up the secure homeland, encourage resurgence and even new powers. But usually the biggest threat you might deal with is probably one of the Southern Realms, if Estalia starts bullying its neighbors or something. And if I'm playing the Empire, Bretonnia or Dwarves, we all just hold hands and sing Kumbaya, with the only real threat from Norscans that are just too annoying to chase down.

I like that the game never allows the Beastmen and Orcs to completely disappear, but after a point there's no more serious challenge. And half the map will stay in ruins because for some reason CPU factions never want to resettle shit. There are probably ways to fix these problems, but I'm not sure which way is best, and I feel like at some point it'd be an overhaul rather than tweaks. Let's hope that T:WW2 does something about it - at least then there'll be a bit more fun starting as Bordelaux, what with having an excuse to sail directly to the New World, and Dark Elf raids could keep things interesting. And having a new world to check out after the old one gets fucked and quiet could at least help keep a long game going.

Fucking infuriating. I wanted to keep the Empire around so I could have a good trading partner but I had to basically plop five stacks in their lands to keep them from getting killed because they would never, ever resettle and thus had to deal with extremely weak armies who would constantly die due to vampire bullshit attrition.

Maybe it's because I used Steel Faith but the AI's been good to me so far.

As the Empire Bretonnia wanted an alliance and I took it. They drove out Orcs and Norscans from their borders and retook their settlements, even capturing and holding Marienburg.

When I sent two invasion armies to the Nordfucker coast I was worried they'd get swarmed, and they almost did until Bretonnia AND Estalia landed four stacks of troops in total to help me out.

It was glorious watching not-Germanegland, not-France, and not-Spaintugal absolutely annihilate a bunch of not-Vikings and destroy their coast, while I helped Kislev bitchwhip Archy and co. so hard that they gave up and started fucking over the Vampires.
>>

Start with Sigmar's Heirs and read the 6th and 7th edition army books. Avoid 8th edition like a plague. If you have time, read some of the novels. Also chat with fellow GMs on the discord channel.

Not that anon, but 8th ed is when they started changing lore to line up for the End Times?
>>
>>54733523
So what does Steel Faith change overall? How much of it is compatible with Cataph's stuff and the faction unlockers?
>>
>>54733509
WFRP is one of the best resources.

Novels too, but some aren't great.

Take care to ignore any books or supplements for 8th Ed or the End Times line, because those are Age of Sigmar prequels.

Army books, especially when they got fluff heavy in 6th and 7th, are also fantastic.

You'll see the "Realm of" books and such mentioned here, very old Chaos supplements. Those are optional. They offer good lore to the Chaos Gods and their workings but they have some very questionable elements, such as chainswords and bolters being available in Fantasy and other cross-universe shit. They're easy to ignore and have always been an optional part of lore, so that's on you to incorporate or nullify.

If you pick up Gotrek and Felix, stop at Zombieslayer. It's the last book IIRC that was set in non-8th/ET/AoS fluff.

Yes. It's when common sense took a back seat to ham fisted retcons so that their hack story could work.
>>

As far as novels go, aren't the Genevieve novels sort of "apocrypha" like how you could say Realm of Chaos/Slaves to Darkness is due to their age?

In WFRP 2e, can I cast spells in armor?
>>
>>54733684
Yes and it's -1 to cast for every point of armour you have. Armoured Casting allows you to ignore up to 3 of those points. Chaos Armour doesn't affect your casting ability.
>>
>>54733766
So Armoured Casting only works on divine casters?

Any other "forgotten" things you brought over to your games? Like say, Gods of Law?
>>
>>54733568
>>54733597
8th was a well-veiled precursor to ET, introducing soft retcons and questionable elements, but it wasn't anything spectacularly awful until End Times, which led to the hard reboots, asinine plots, bizarre gameplay changes, and ultimately the world-destroying transition into Age of Sigmar. 8th isn't as bad as the End Times supplements for it or AoS, but it's still not a very good source of fluff, if your intent is to avoid anything AoS related.

>>54733664
I'm not entirely sure. I do know some of the fluff is the oldest-oldest books is questionable due to age. I recall WFRP 1e saying the Emperor is an alcoholic idiot, while 7th (the last edition that most of us consider "Fantasy canon") has Franz being an incredible general and statesman.

When it comes to outdated content, it's up to you on what to keep. For example, I still keep Malal, the renegade Chaos God, in my games even though he was phased out a long time ago by GW due to copyright problems they had.

In cases like that where old fluff was lost due to external problems or GW simply forgetting it existed, I like to carry it over.

>>
>>54733855
I'm pretty sure you could argue that, with a little awareness, you could read and even take parts from 8th edition lore without having to condone the End Times. But maybe that's because I got into the hobby late and didn't know better, compared to the folks that came in around 6th and cling to that as the last true edition - and admittedly, it is the most sound and the best source of lore all in all.
>>
>>54733899

Funnily enough, Karl Franz is an incredible general and statesman in the Genevieve novels, despite them being pretty old.

Tyrion is a badass and all and definitely one of the best warriors in the setting, but Tyrion is good at multiple forms of warfare and battle and is a master orb tactics and such.

Gotrek however has one skillset; kill everything in front of him.
>>
>>54734036
It was the idea that Chaos had a non-evil counterpart that provided at least a little bit of hope to the world that was the great thing about them.
>>
>>54734119
For me what I liked was the idea of there being polar opposite deities to Chaos, and their worshippers while tolerated, were still considered to be a bit too fanatical, even for Templars of the non-Gods of Law religions.

Is there a mechanic in 2E for, like, morale?

It'd be pretty neat to see a "what if" where instead of Chaos being ascendant, it was Law. Maybe it'd be something like this?
>>
>>54734174
It is rather ironic - while the Chaos Gods are loathed, they're still worshiped by cults that desire power. But the Gods of Law are too hard-line for human sensibilities and barely have any followers, and don't seem to have much to offer them.

It's like how Malal is an anti-Chaos Chaos God, but he's barely worshiped at all, and is just in opposition to everyone, rather than being some sort of better nature of Chaos.
>>
>>54734601
Chaos at least claims to offer independence, power, and freedom, even if it's all a big lie to enslave your soul.

Law is less popular because it stands against not only Chaos but chaotic emotions. If Law won the world would enter a dead stasis, never developing, never changing, all emotions null and void aside from passive justice.

The world of a Chaos victory would be a fiery ash-heap, because they and everything else would be destroyed by the imbalance in reality.

The world of a Law victory would be a dead and lifeless lobotomy of existence where you might as well be dead, because that's the ultimate balance and order: complete stasis and petrification.

Whoever wins, we lose. The Gods of Law are at least honest and not usually as big of pricks as the Gods of Chaos though.
>>
>>54734092
Are you sure? I don't have Drachenfels to hand but Beasts in Velvet, Silver Nails etc. seem pretty ambivalent about him and cross reference the early Gotrek and Felix novels with the window tax and Reiksguard massacre.

It seemed to me as if they were setting up the fluff for Luitpold. I'm not sure why Luitpold vanished entirely and was replaced by that other son in Empire in Flames.
>>
>>54734691
Luitpold is Karl's brother who's a mutant, but one of his "gifts" is that he can project an illusion of being normal.
>>
>>54734645
I can understand how the Gods of Law could be worshiped by ascetics, or in some cases Witch Hunters who just see taint of Chaos in everything else. I liked a bit of very old lore that the cult of Solkan used to be powerful in Remas, and acted as quasi-Witch Hunters that kept civil strife to a minimum - until they couldn't manage to defeat a Khornate daemon and everyone got pissed at them for being useless on top of screwing their lives over with their 'everyone is a sinner' sensibilities.

But yeah, generally Gods of Law just aren't for people to worship. One of them is even supposed to be so hard to understand he barely has any followers. They exist only because Chaos needs an antithesis to balance out, not because there's any strong desire for them. And I'm okay with that, and their minor place in the lore as a result.
>>
>>54734740
That's Wolfgang. I don't think we know his relation, he's just the Crown Prince.
>>
>>54734092

>>
>>54734746
>they couldn't manage to defeat a Khornate daemon
Wasn't that in one of the Brunner stories?
>>
>>54734754
Oh yeah. Sorry, I meant to phrase my post as a question, but forgot to do that.
>>
>>54734740
Luitpold is Franz's heir in the Drachenfels, Beasts in Velvet etc. I don't think Wolfgang is mentioned though I'm not sure. Wolfgang is heir in Empire in Flames and Luitpold (the younger) isn't mentioned, to my knowledge.

I love the Yeovil novels when they get into the backstabbing and politicking between different Imperial authorities. They feel like real people, not retarded capeshit fantasies like Volkmar or nuFranz.

For those curious, once there was a Imperial province on the Bretonnian side of the Grey Mountains, named West Mark. It had been conquered by Sigismund the Conqueror around 900 IC (977 IC is when Gilles le Breton was crowned king). Apparently the specific area it encompassed was Parravon. Though I should note that the information on this does come from an in-universe, and therefore possibly biased, source. And any Imperial influence doesn't seem to have lasted long, since by Gilles time Parravon was just another Dukedom, and had its own Duke.
>>
>>54735513
Sigmar's Heirs gives this information in a Word of God format.
Sigismund the Conquerer also defeated the Juton King and added the Jutonsryk land to the province of Westerland and founded the province of Lichtenberg in the Border Princes.

It was about this time that the Fennones of Sylvania were conquered and added to the Empire, although that wasn't under Sigismund's rules specifically. Also Ostland and Talabecland extended all the way to the river Lynsk. At this point Ostermark was the East March of Talabecland.

I want to recreate pic related in a gambling den, with a crime lord offering them a wager: x amount of money put up by each party, and if the PCs answer correctly they get both stacks of coins, but if they fail then the crime lord gets both stacks.

The problem is cereal does not exist in the Warhammer World. What other similar products could be substituted to get the same idea?

Everything in the setting does now. The End Times, Bret squires, Be'lakor, Elven gods, Malekith the Pheonix King...One of the good things about the setting being dead is that you can pick and chose what you want, and add in your own headcanon liberally since no one can officially say 'no' anymore. But one of the bad things is that there's nothing to point to as being the official, canon lore anymore - everything is fair game. The only sort of agreement on what is or isn't canon comes from the community, and of course this varies from community to community.

Even though in general, the affirmation among this specific community is that anything past 6th is questionable at best, and by End Times is outright ignorable, it's up to the community to enforce it, making it easy to goad them into an argument by simply holding up something they don't like and saying you like it. And, you know, there's also the rarity that some people are legitimately new to the setting and don't understand why people hate the ideas that seem sensible to them, since they just got here from /twg/ or another vidya and can't see the edition divisions.

Nurgle shits, and your army eats. Thou shalt not, thou son of a whore, make subjects of Kislev's sons; we have no fear of your horde, by land and by sea we will battle with thee, fuck thy mother.

On average, Tyrion hits with three attacks and Gotrek hits with three (due to the Rune Axe). Tyrion wounds with three, while Gotrek wounds with two. Both have a +4 Ward save, but Gotrek is very marginally more likely to take more wounds per turn. Due to Tyrion's much higher Initiative, greater number of wounds, and Heart of Avelorn, he's going to win most times.

Both are likely to go away in bad shape, but Gotrek will generally go away worse.

They've ended up almost everywhere in the world at some point, even founding a colony in Lustria, and they've taken wealth from various places. It wouldn't be too surprising to me if they took bits of armor or clothing, as a way of proving their travels when regaling others with their sagas.

Okay. So with Norscans, the further north you go, the more Chaos they are.

It stands to reason the further south you go, upon hitting the equator, you'll find the least Chaos-y humans in the world.

Thus I argue that unless you're living on the equator, you are a Chaos scum that needs to be purged.

Most of it is ruthless cocksucker, cold as ice and smart enough but still needing a bit of direction from his mom in the subtler points of politics and subterfuge. If I remember right, earlier on he was much more angry and less controllable, and it wasn't until he got stuck in the Realm of Chaos for a couple centuries that he cooled down, so he had like half an arc. In the End Times, there's more of him showing a sense of humor, insulting enemies and bashing allies, and I can't say I hate that even if it comes from that point in the lore.

Archaon's characterization mostly relies on his tragic backstory - he hates the Chaos Gods and being forced to be their plaything and the good guy pantheon for not saving him, so he's going to destroy the whole world to save it from all the lies. Otherwise he's just essentially an evil leader of Chaos. Malekith's backstory gives his motivation - he wants to reconquer his birthright and is bitterly focused on it - but he is his own character beyond it, possibly because he's had to take thousands of years to not achieve his goal and instead sulk and plot and deal with other shit. And he's also got some back and forth with his mommy to help flesh him out a little.

Is it amazing? By Sigmar, no. It's generic evil warlord 101. But it, in my mind, is a lot better than the attempt to add depth to Archaon when he didn't really need that depth, and pretty much every other major Chaos character willingly fell and didn't have all the hang ups.
>>
>>54742839
Basically, he thinks he should be in charge because his daddy was, and because mommy kept telling him he should be.

I think it may be the format but we got to see the individual events which led Arthas to where he is. Actions that, while extreme, can actually be explainable & may have been for the greater good despite the awfulness. As time went on, they got more extreme, more allies abandoned him & he ended up being exactly what he sought to destroy.

Arthas would make a decent Warhammer character in the sense that you could see how every choice he made led him further and further down a road he couldn't turn back from, but also how it was his character flaws (ambition, a desire to prove himself a leader, and strong willingness to embrace extremity before considering other options) rather then simply plot devices and random things that happened to him led him to his villainy.
Besides, villain Arthas was way more entertaining, he had a pretty snarky sense of dry humor.
>>
>>54743158
>rather then simply plot devices and random things that happened to him led him to his villainy.
How do you mean by that?
>>
>>54743171
Well, in Warhammer's most obvious context I mean Archaeon.
When he was given a backstory he was not really presented as having any particularly obvious character flaws, but instead shit just happens to him that it is made apparent that he has zero actual control over and this makes him evil.
It's basically a backstory that doesn't require him to have a personality of any kind because in this style of writing pretty much all that matters is what happens to a person rather then the how and the why he reacts to it.

This is possibly because GW's love for Chaos (as easily their most recognizable IP in Warhammer other then orcs) made him the "winner" in their minds and thus showing him as having flaws that led to his "fall" isn't really necessary as him being a villain is a good thing in their eyes as writers.

>>
>>54743171
Not him but Arthas fell because of his personality. His boner for killing Mal'ganis and his increasing ruthlessness culminated to a point where he would do anything to win. Frostmourne being a soul-eating demonic runeblade helped seal the deal, but at that point you could have given him a personal nuke launcher. So long as you say "do as I say and I'll keep you supplied with nukes," Arthas would probably have gone along with it at that point.

Malekith though, so far as I understand, was actually a pretty cool guy until his bloodline's curse flared up. And unfortunately, "muh curse" is more prevalent in warhammer than I'd like. Ironically though it's handled pretty well with the Vampires since their characters aren't defined by their curses or prophecies but how they try struggle to make their own way in life. Mannfred may have been a huge faggot but there's nothing more vampire-core than stabbing Gelt and ending the world. It was still a losing move, but all the same it was the only one which granted him some measure of control over his own destiny.

Someone like Mannfred could never become the Everchosen for that reason, either he fails stupendously or succeeds and overthrows them. Someone susceptible to the temptations of power like Arthas could be. But seeing where they ultimately ended up because of their personalities is what makes them interesting. Hand Waiving away a character's descent because of tainted blood or a book that says "you're the evergay, fuccboi" is lame. And I know it's not that simple for both of them, and in Malekith's case there's plenty of development on him after turning edgy, but their falls from grace could've been way better.

Yes they're fucking bloodsucking vermin, but they are pretty easy to portray as a villain, because you can do whatever the fuck you want with them. >>54743683
Thanquol is colorful but he is completely one-dimensional. He has no depth of character or complex motivations so he can't really play any role other than cartoon villain. The stories that feature him can be fun if you are into sadistic humor but they get repetitive and predictable really fast.
>>
>>54743823
Seems to me you cited all reasons for why hes' such a good character.
No over-complex motives, no shoehorned 'depth' into what is essentially a giant sentient rat. Thanquol is who he is, and doews what he does because he feels like it.
A villain does not always need to be an overarchig 2deep4u character to be a good character.
Trying to make all villains simpathetic and multi-faced is what ruined both malekith and Archaon
>>
>>54743838
I understand what you mean. He's a good and convenient opponent but I was more thinking of the stories that feature him as the central character. He's just too limited to sustain the role of a protagonist.
>>
>>54743838
>>54743876
Sharpwit was probably one of the best written skaven. He did have his own schemes and was actually worthy of his own boasting. He was well apart from other skaven in that he understood other races. It gave him depth and a respectable amount of threat level.

BUT I understand where the other anon mentions simplicity can sometimes be it's own charm. The headtaker was just a mindless brute, actually pretty stupid, but had just a hint of somthing that made you question if he really was as mindless as he let on. He wanted nothing more then to fight strong things, and that in itself is great for preventing plot holes
>so why the fuck would you want to even go here queek?
>because I want to fuck it up
>>
How long do Skaven live, not counting the constant risk of backstabbing in their society?
>>
>>54743914
20-25 years most accounts seem to say, though council of 13 and some chosen skaven are effectively immortal as long as they have the horned rats favor
>>
>>54743838
So you consider complete simple and one dimensional villains as well written?
>>
>>54744041
Depends on the villain, but to answer your question, yes, sometimes it works
All warhammer villains would probably fare better if they were one dimensional villains with simple, unapolgetic and uncomplicated goals and motives.
They simply don't have the structure to support a deeper characterisation
>>
>>54743914
Skaven have that thing similar to Tau where an individual usually lives as long as he's needed.
A 20 years skaven is already very old, on average, but clanrats and slaves usually live much less, around 10-15 years
>>
>>54744064
Warhammer is better when its about the armies more than the individual special characters of the setting.

The whole armies are your cast, each coming with untold possibilities for the people who build their own within each of them, this isn't Lord of the Rings.
>>
>>54744064
By structure, do you mean the warhammer universe in itself? If yes I sort of agree. At its core, the setting is about various races and factions being engaged in ceaseless war. This is fine but the material doesn't lend itself to excessive subtlety.
>>
>>54744203
To be fair, i would've enjoyed a novel about Karl Franz managing the empire and having to deal with some beaurocracy, or a tale of how Ungrim struggles to keep his sanity, torn between his slayer oath an his duty as king. But yeah, such individual vovels should involve in a bigger spectrum of battles, or big events seen from the eyes of such characters.

Gotrek & Felix were so good because they explored the parts of warhammer that weren't 'war', but such characters would fare poorly in a wargame. They're more like RPG characters, with their own story being the focus
>>
>>54744074
How fast do they mature exactly? I think I've seen it mentioned somewhere that if they lose an army they can just breed another one in a few years like nothing happened.
>>
>>54744255
Yes, sort of. The warhammer univers, as you stated doesn't allow much sublety. You can fill it with flavour text and novels, and try and build a real, functioning world around the core concept. But the characters involved in such great designs are poor choices of characters. malekith, Archaon, Thanquol, but even Karl Franz and Tyrion make for poor protagonist in a story that is not their own. They work better as simple, straight characters with few distinctive characteristics that one can work himself around.
Individually, they'd work better in a smaller scope.

Have an example: Archaon works better when he's portrayed as an uncomplicated bringer of doom. he's THE evil guy of the setting. He doesn't need any particular motivation or backstory, he's a miniature in a wargame. Trying to portray Archaon as a more complex character in relation to his role on the table is stupid, it sounds stupid. His backstory is unnecessary, his angst sounds like a forced 2deep4u attempt to give depth to something that doesn't hav, or need, any.

Archaon would work much better in his own context. I think I would've enjoyed much more a story about him struggling to bend all the warring tribes of the North to his will and qualm century-old feuds. He's a lord, a champion of the gods, tasked with the ungrateful duty of uniting all these shitheads and prevent they don't kill eachother before they get to kill the enemy. despite not having a backstory, it would make him look human, in the 'even the chosen of the gods must deal with this shit' way.

Same thing for Malekith. I would've enjoyed a novel on how he struggles to keep his domain over the dark elves, forced to fight off High Elves agents and other DE who wish to take his place. He's unrepentantly evil, but he's not stupid (sort of)
>>
>>54744300
well they're rats, so i guess they breed and develop very quickly.
I don't think it's openly stated somewhere, but i think it's safe to assume a skaven can become a full adult in one to three years. They sure as hell learn very quickly, and own a natural cunning that makes them quick-witted.

Just as they age, i guess a skaven matures more or less quickly depending on what their role in their society is. Slaves grow fast and die faster. Stormvermin and lords probably mature a bit more slowly, but this last part is headcanon, so take it as you want
>>
>>54744300
The in-character section of Children of the Horned Rat says that male skaven take five years to reach maturity and female skaven take two.

Although this contradicts some other stuff slightly, like Queek Headtaker already being an established warrior when he was four years old.
>>
>>54744326
I quite liked the Six Treasures of Chaos thing with Archaon. They're like a dark mirror to the Labours of Hercules.

But then Hercules isn't a 'good character' either. He's a mythic archetype, and that's how Warhammer special characters work too.
>>
>>54744368
I suspect diet plays a massive role - doubly so for the importance of warpstone in their diet.

Lord units can be renamed into different stuff, but their initial unique traits are always randomly generated in-game and their appearances are fixed. Captains are Hero units and can indeed be put into armies (a lot are pretty effective fighters too), but they cannot lead armies themselves.

That said, pretty much every Hero unit in the game has a Lord version of it somewhere.

Worship of Taal in outright cities is weak, because it's religiously inappropriate. The main shrine's usually gonna be outside the city.
>>
>>54745937
Biggest question is "would an elf race mix with you?", and the answer is always no unless you're a woman then it's "probably not".
>>

>implying its a choice on the elven whores part

this would be one of the reasons its not wose to have female troops. now you have a lot of pow prime elven tang to rape

>>54746054
Pretty sure Dwarfs smoke pipes. I recall in Gotrek and Felix whenever dwarfs got together they either drink lots of ale or gather round and light up their pipes.

In the TWW DLC you can usurp Archaeon and become the new Everchosen.

Archaon the Everchosen? Morelike Archaon the Evercucked.

Which dlc is this? Or is it in TWW2?
>>
>>54747932
See - this is the true spirit of Warhammer. That's what people don't get when they want to 'progress' the 'plot'.

Fuck Archaon, long live Might Zog Arkwright and Chenghis Crump.

Trevor was crazy before that. Though malekith does follow the same edgy-king-of-evil thing fantasy has going on, much like Trevor is the stereotypical GTA crazy protagonist.
