what do you need to get the vizier storm cannon thing up and running? i'm looking at the rajah which is pretty awesome except for the half BAB thing and wondering if you can just feat the guns into it and be good to go

What strength should a ranged Soldier have? Can I stick with 10 and ignore heavy weapons? When are weapons getting leaked?

>>54716842
You don't need the full BAB unless you want to be a full attack babby

Attacking through Vassalage gives you a huge to-hit boost
>>
What falls under "Misc Mod" for Saves, Attack Bonuses, and Armor Class in Starfinder?

Is it the same as regular Pathfinder or did they change/update/remove some bonuses?

You might want to at least go with a 12 or so to make sure you can carry more gear. You're gonna want a lot of weapons to switch in and out, for energy types, ranges, and so on. Never hurts to be able to carry more stuff.

Iroradin gets Aura of Excellence which shuts down forced rerolls for himself, and gives party members "roll twice and take highest" when they are forced to reroll. You also get Fortune for rerolls on yourself, and eventually your aura gets even more powerful.

I am not a good Bloodforge memer, but honestly, the good old-fashioned Half-elf or Aasimar function just perfectly under these conditions. If you want to do extra heretical things, you can pull a Darkstar and take Racial Heritage: Kitsune (because nobody in their right mind actually wants to play a Kitsune) and use the Wrecking Mysticism curse to trade away all those shitty Lunar mystery spells for Magical Tails instead. Invisibility SLA 2/day, and other fine things, beckon!

Of course, if you are Bloodforge there's also some actual non shit options to use with Kitsune that allow you even higher levels of Magical Tail memery, so there's that.

Using only the leaked PDFs, the only level 5 bonus is a Soldier style technique. What are you referring to?

General question, what attribute do Culture and Recall Knowledge checks use?
>>
>>54718256
Optimal archer build.
>>
So how come /pfg/ hates the race that let's you effectively be either an hourglass figure tit goddess or a shortstack while loving the race that are all identical and have effectively one class to choose?
>>
>>54718215
Sadly, there is no Dimorphism option in Spore, whereas for the Vesk, the Dimorphis is relatively minor and unimportant, and your average schmuck would not be able to notice the difference between them
>>
>>54718256
>Using only the leaked PDFs, the only level 5 bonus is a Soldier style technique. What are you referring to?
Every five levels, you pick four stats. Each of the chosen stats gets +1, or +2 if it's 16 or lower.

On a side note, what the fuck is this "select around the X" captcha? Never seen that one before, not sure if I like it.
>>
>>54718291
wat
>>
>>54718304
Why does /pfg/ hate Lashunta and love the lizards.
>>
>>54718256
You get FOUR attribute increases at level 5, with anything 17+ only adding +1 point and anything 16 or below getting +2.

Meaning that 14 19 12 10 14 10 Soldier can become 16 20 14 10 16 10 at level 5.
>>
>>54718304
The Lashunta.

One "form" turns you into a tall, curvy beauty or a bishounen, while another "form" makes you short, busty and hot-headed.
>>
>>54718335

>>
>>54718330

>>54718364

>>

Because Lashunta were 'sexual dimorphism' which some people thought were cool, but that got taken away by a writer that people hate.

They also became 'loved by everyone and perfect babbus', in a way reminiscent of the Munavri and Kender.
>>

>>

So my party and I recently fought a villain and a bunch of weird stuff happened that I want to call bullshit on. Can you guys tell me if this is bullshit:

>enemy has two initiatives, GM said it was "to make a singular enemy more threatening and to give him more action economy"
>the bad guy every time he attacks us with this giant mantis limb that he has instead of an arm causes a fort save or debuffs to hit and movement speed (GM said it numbed you when it touched you)
>use a hand crossbow with like 6 shots (GM said it was a multishot crossbow) to shoot incoming attacks out of the air (I think this may have been PoW)
>went through a window to escape from us and didn't provoke AoOs when running off (he didn't attack that round though)
>when we went through after him he attacked the first guy who went through with a shard of glass (my character) and gouged my character's eye out (GM said he had readied action after he went through)
>GM said I was blind for one round and permanently in my left eye, plus a bunch of bleed damage
>the next guy who game through the villain apparently had a cut on his hand and flung blood into my party member's eyes to blind him as well (it was a tough attack)
>had a climb speed
>had a swim speed & could breathe under water (he escaped from us by diving into the river and swimming straight down)
>several times during the chase he would just tackle his way through doors/windows and keep going without having to stop moving
>one point activated a spring loaded thing and launched this seed that grew super quickly tried to wrap around another of my party member's, it was a touch attack and a reflex save
>was able to just break things and use anything as an improvised weapon, but was able to give them weapon properties (at the least he was able to give one acid)
>>
>>54718427

>>54718429
The first is a Mythic ability called Dual Initiative, but even that doesn't literally double someone's action econ.
Second is fine, that's just poison.
I don't know enough about PoW to talk about the third
The fourth is rulebreaking unless he had some ability to do so
The fifth is complete bullshit
The sixth is too
Climb, Swim, Breathing Underwater isn't hard to get via items and stuff so that's not really a problem
Seventh isn't technically allowed, I don't think (not cool) but it's cool and minor so I wouldn't hassle over it.
Eighth sounds like some sort of Web spell that only affects one person, so that's fine
Ninth resembles Monk of the Empty Hand's ability but even better
Basically your DM had a boner for this guy and was bullshitting.
>>
>>54718429
DM makes the enemy, DM makes the rules. As long as you had the potential to win (and considering you never said as much it sounds like you did in the end despite everything) it's all kosher.
>>
>>54718513
We didn't win, the guy escaped into the river.
>>
>>54718291
Because Lizards are hot, and the Vesk with their expansive empire composed of dozens of vassal races and their cultural emphasis on honor and being a badass martial is infinitely cooler, as the Vesk are presented as a reasonable race with thier own strengths and flaws which makes them superior to the bladnly mary sue rubber-forhead beings known as the Lashunta, who have had most of the interesting parts of thier physiology retconned by the grubby regressive claws of Crystal Frasier. I'm sorry you're too retarded to get this Lashuntafag. Heck, most of the other races are more interesting than them, even Elves are now more interesting in SF, and they used to be one of the blander and lamer options in PF

>>54718427
And Asari were the lamest race in Mass Effect, with the only interesting feature being their Hermaphroditic psychic-sexual nature. And even that was kinda meh and was a real hit-or-miss with most players. Plus Turians, Salarians, Krogan, and nearly all the other races on the citadel were much cooler than them. Also Javik was kinda cool, if a bit of an ass. Honestly the only Asari that I found interesting to interact with was the one Matriarch that ran the bar who was half-Krogan
>>
Where would Draph come from in a sci-fi setting? A genetically-engineered slave race in the Azlanti Star Empire? That doesn't make sense, they use Androids!
>>
Create a character with all the information know of Starfinder character creation based on the song you are listening to right now. If you aren't listening to anything right now go to your player of choice, put it on random, skip three songs and pick that one.

The one weird trick that made Elves even more fun and viable in SF is the emphasis on ranged weapons and piloting in the setting, which uses Dex.

Now you can play an Elf as more than just the bow-slut or twirly whirly Dervish girly, you can give them a SHOTGUN!

>>54718574
>Krogan
>Cool

But they are even worse than the Asari. Sure the blue bitches were there for fapbaiting and female projection, but the Krogan were cartoonishly powerful. Best warriors in the galaxy bar none, had good enough tech to take off into space and nuke their own homeplanet, bred like rabbits and were naturally so tough skinned and strong that they can take on a combat vehicle alone. The only reason that krogan remain cool instead of stupidly powerful is because the cooler races kept them in check and we are supposed to feel sorry for the krogan who themselves have admitted that once they start making babies again they are going to grab the universe by the ears and face fuck it until they reach climax.
>>
>>54718673
The other thing that helped elves was the handling of ability score point buy and increases making their Con penalty less of a pain in the ass. No longer will you have to sink 10 points of PB just to get a measly 14 Con.

There's nothing about Vesk that couldn't just be represented by a human culture. They don't make use of distinct biology, or a foreign philosophy, or an outlandish backstory. Worse yet, they suffer the dwarf problem where their rigid racial personality reduces the range they can be played at before their race is irrelevant to characterization.

Vesk are a race for stupids who can't think long enough to see through a shallow front.

I am reposting an inquiry in the new thread to gather new opinions.

I cannot believe I am actually having to make this comparison.

For a trick attacking operative (ghost) to be played in a 1st-level one-off game, from a purely mechanical perspective, would an ysoki or a halfling be more optimal?

Ysoki have truly awful racial features (unless it is common to be knocked prone or off-kilter), but they do have +2 Dexterity and +2 Intelligence, and their +2 bonus to Stealth helps with trick attacking. Furthermore, darkvision can assist with sneaking around, and this one-off will focus on undeveloped areas. (Let us assume that since nightvision is a 2nd-level operative talent, night goggles will be fairly costly.)

Halflings have decidedly better racial features, including a +2 bonus to Stealth to assist with trick attacking, but +2 Charisma is not quite as useful as +2 Intelligence, particularly at 1st-level when an extra skill point means activating a class skill bonus for another +3 to a skill.

How did it come to this. Which would be the more mechanically optimal race under the above circumstances?

Assume that the GM is ignoring Mark Seifter's "supposed to" for the operative (ghost) and running its +4 trick attack as printed:

I don't even like lashunta but they're much better than vesk. I agree that they're a Mary Sue race and that's a weak basis, but there's a lot to work with in creating a unique lashunta character. The rules you follow in defining one leave space to play with in regards to how their dimorphism affects them, how they interact with the outside attention caused by being a member of a species, and their inherent desire to learn and grow. There's space to play with that human doesn't cover.

What you need to understand about Vesk is that they, and Lashunta, are both representatives of science fiction race stereotypes. Vesk are under as much baggage as dwarves because they've been written to conform to these cliches, except Paizo doesn't have the competence to even open them up with any interesting cultural background.

>>54719011
Don't project faggot, answer me like I answered you. Vesk are relatable because they're shallow, more shallow than bog-standard humans by virtue of being a cultural stereotype instead of being a people. Flaws only matter in application, and the particular ones the Vesk were assigned are just as bad as people being jealous of the Lashunta for being "too beautiful" or "too smart". The Vesk are presented as an effective culture, at worse underestimated for not looking smart on face level.

Shirren are shit too, better than Vesk but only on the level of Lashunta. Kasatha are the only good core race.

Do we know if weapons of different sizes deal different damage in Starfinder? Will a halfling with a laser rifle sized for it deal elss damage than a human?

I ask because the idea of a tiny, bodacious halfling chick with a massive laser minigun the size she is is hilarious, but I'd not want to play something heavily unoptimal if it turns out to be so.

Shirren are wasted opportunity. They have a great concept going in but Paizo dropped the ball by making them too human. When it comes down to it, their major flavour aspects all borrow from traits traditionally associated with humans in being in brave heroic individuals. The angle every Shirren narrative is going to play out is some Shirren sacrificing himself so that all the humans around him can admire him for how human he was.
They're salvaged a bit and I could see some Shirren characters turn out amazing since they do carry a different enough physiology and mentality for fun interactions. Just like the Lashunta needed more focus on their mysticism and autism, the Shirren needed more focus on their OCD and instinct. Emphasizing the most human aspects of them just leaves you with a race that'll mostly be played by weird perky goths that ignore all the lore so they can be special in the opposite direction from Lashunta Mary Sues, and grognards playing their cliches straight as though "Shirren" is as legitimate a personality as "Dwarf".

I'm not saying people should like Lashunta, I'm saying that anyone who thinks Vesk and Shirren are good but Lashunta are bad is a fucking retard who only takes things at face value and doesn't give any thought to application.

Kasatha >>> Lashunta/Shirren > Vesk/Ysoki. Humans are humans, and Androids are like half-elves where they're never considered in a vacuum and get characterized around contrast.

Bizarrely the legacy races are mostly good.

Thanks, pic unrelated
>>
>>54719409
The problem is that Kasatha are the only race that aren't reskinned humans at the end of the day. People're tricked because the Lashunta look more human, but the Shirren, the Vesk and the Ysoki are at least as bad when you sit down and think about what you can do with them. Having three genders helps nothing for the characterization, neither does having scales instead of skin, and neither does being furry instead of being black.

Lashunta are trash, but they're the same trash as the Vesk /pgg/ wants to jerk off. "Veskbros" are the same type of cancer that Lashunta waifufags are, but I hate them more because at least waifufags are self-aware enough to know they're shit.

Good players will make good characters in any race, but that doesn't make the race good. A race should have a unique identity, but enough range within it that characters aren't all locked to some limited choice. /tg/ has always been fucking retarded in liking dwarves but hating elves, when elves are way better.

There are guides to this shit. And seeing as you have a druid for fullcastery, you may want to just go Bard/Skald rather than regular wiz/sorc/witch, just to make things easier on yourself.

Otherwise, the Witch is probably the easiest way to go about it. You don't have to mind EVERYTHING as much as sorcwiz, you have your hexes to cover your butt for most of the time, and everything else is fine and dandy.

There should be some guides around here somewhere.

Aside from having 2 stats that are odd numbered for some reason, might I actually suggest lowering Dex to 16 to be able to afford a bit more leeway elsewhere (like Cha or maybe even Con)? >>
>>54719535
It's fine to rip off of things, just make good use of what you steal. The problem is being too similar to human, or even in an all human setting, making humans too similar to each other. Race shouldn't define everything about your character but it should have an impact.

Kasatha have a physiology that's actually useful in characterization, unlike Shirren tit-fondling arms. It lets you write different means of movement from other races to spice up roleplaying and interactions. The way you handle equipment or stride across terrain will be different which you can leverage for entire campaigns.
Their culture is another sci-fi stereotype, but the advanced ancients stereotype is more useful than the sexy aliens or the proud warrior race stereotype. By default a Kasatha character will have different values from a space age human because they're stagnant in a setting where every other race is attached to progress. Their mentality in approaching problems can be played up, but instead of always trying to reason first or always trying to fight first, individual Kasatha have wide options in how they approach diplomacy or combat because their template is broad and the Paizo fluff on them presents conflicts within their own culture on how to handle things. We know that Kasathas are divided on the topic of emigration or settlement, and we have details on their separate warrior culture, religious culture, and trade culture.

You can play a Kasatha Solarian whose experience makes him a father-figure, but he'll be different from a human commander due to the race's spiritual wisdom. You can go far in a different direction and play a stand-offish Kasatha Mystic who follows the witchwyrds but refuses to explain himself to maintain his personal philosophy. As a first step, Paizo put a strong foot forward on them compared to the others.
>>
>>54719789

I know you're not the same guy but this is a useful example actually. The difference in characterization between a human and a kasatha, assuming this identical background with the names changed comes into play once cultural relationships come into play.

The human character as presented is unique in his representing of dead traditions, and his journey to preserve or adapt them won't just meet obstacles in other races, but in the fact that he's adopted an identity unique to him. He's inevitably been alone, or among few peers in his practices growing up.

A kasatha character with an identical premise would have a childhood around people who shared his base traditions. Assuming he does begin a campaign with the same personality as expectations as the human, he'd begin interacting with strangers who acknowledge his oddities as foreign but not idiosyncratic and run into NPCs that know what he's doing. His trial with his philosophy isn't strictly unique, it's a widespread tradition.

In short, Kasatha a best, Vesk a shit, roleplaying should always be autistic and meticulous.

>>
>>54720572
Envoy- Bard/Investigator hybrid, meh.
Solarion- Spehss paladin except without alignment restrictions. Complicated.
Operative- Spehss rogue except it's actually legitimately good. Skillmonkey.
Mechanic- Customizable class, either get a robot or an exocortex, both help you do your job better.
Soldier- Soldier
Mystic- Magic person who gets their power from some outer force
Technomancer- Magic person who gets their power from technology. Does tech-based tricks

>A kasatha character with an identical premise would have a childhood around people who shared his base traditions
So what your saying is that Kasatha are all one-note blank shits that are shackled into their one gimmick, which isn't even a unique gimmick?
So taking their obsession with their history, this means they're pretty much just Elves with 4 arms. Congrats, your description has made the Kasatha completely superfluous compared to the base fantasy races, just as Dwarves render the Vesk as superfluous.

Kasatha are shit, and are bland and just as pointlessly shitty and monotypic as the Vesk. Your waifu a shit and only has the 4 arms thing going for her, and if you think this roleplaying restriction on them makes them unique, them by the same token the Vesk, Elves, and Dwarves are just as unique as them. Of course you seem to fail to realise this because you're a blind hypocrite born of the same ignorant vanity as the Veskfags
>>
>>54720697
Solarion is pretty complicated. However, just about any race can fill any class to decent effect at least due to the way attribute bonuses work. From what I've seen, Ysoki are kind of bad since they're small and have 2 starting HP as part of their race, why not do that?

>Oh hey, I'll drain her blood and serve it as wine

Far as I can tell, the only hp they're losing out of is like 3-5 points?

The Solarian isn't weak, just complicated, it does get a lot of fancy jedi tricks. The Envoy however is definitely the weakest. almost anything it can do an Operative can do better.

Less 'It's good at being a space rogue' and more that it seems to outdo other classes in their own areas of expertise, skill-wise. With a massively higher skill points than anyone else, being int based AND the bigger bonuses to skills than any other class it seems like other classes can't really compete even in narrow areas skillwise.

>>54721200
It's like comparing investigator to a multiclass bard/rogue.

I was mostly considering it to the Engineer (Though the Envoy isn't doing itself any favors). The Operative kicks the shit out of the engineer at computers and tech.

My issue isn't 'The rogue is good at stuff'. It's that 'other classes can't really compete even in their area of skill expertise'. Operative's Edge scales higher than comparable skill bonuses despite being much, much wider and they get free skill focus with such skills.

>The other thing that helped elves was the handling of ability score point buy and increases making their Con penalty less of a pain in the ass. No longer will you have to sink 10 points of PB just to get a measly 14 Con.
No, you just have to sink 6. 10 points is half of the average of 20 PB points, 6 is more than half of the starting points you get in SF. This change actually hurts the elves when you look at the numbers in proportion.
>>
>>54722406
The point they're making is that you can have like a 10 or something in Con and bump it up later more easily.

I see a lot of trashing on Envoy, Solarian and Ysoki. Anybody got thoughts regarding Mechanic? Is the Drone useless? Is the Exocortex OP?
>>
>>54723718

It's got a few oddities that don't make much sense. Like the fact they literally don't have enough class skills to actually spend all their skill points as they level unless they pick up half a dozen professions.

The Drone doesn't look too bad as a whole but WBL might seriously hurt them, it will need to be investigated. The Exocortex feels kinda meh as the 'Full BAB' thing is nice but it's only for the purpose of attacking the chosen guy, rather than for all the feats that rely on BAB.
