Been thinking of repainting my iron warriors CSM for a while now, as in from before 8th hit. I just look at them and think they look...kind of dull. So, I need to pick a new legion. Been considering word bearers because I've always liked their scheme, and their lore's okay, although I hear their rules are kind of wank. If I was going with rules I'd go with the alpha legion, who also have a decent paint scheme, but lore-wise I think they're a bunch of smug chucklefucks. Night lords are the other option, but they're just kind of okay, I don't hate their scheme/lore/rules but not sure I really love them either. Currently leaning towards the word bearers because at the end of the day they're my models and I need to look at them every day, but I dunno.


tl;dr When picking a legion, should I prioritise paint scheme, rules, lore, or what?

Chaos Weapon changes. Also units got points lowered too. Don't have an authoritative list though. Bikers down 6 points for example. Plague Marines down 2 etc. Defilers got a huge point cost decrease. Same with Lord of Skulls who got a 100 point decrease.

Ranged weapon points:
Bale Flamer: 30 points cheaper.
Blastmaster: 8 points cheaper.
Hades autocannon: 5 points cheaper.
Reaper autocannon: 3 points cheaper.
Soulreaper cannon: 5 points cheaper.
Melee weapons:
Demonic axe: 35 points cheaper (45 to 10!!!)
Hellforged sword: 32 points cheaper (42 to 10)

In terms of big models, got a few daemon engines (maulerfiend, defiler, and heldrake). That was kind of why I painted my shit as iron warriors in the first place, but I guess other legions use daemon engines too - would that be a thing word bearers go in for?

Currently the only daemons I have are a trio of bloodcrushers (bought because I like the models) and some screamers & flamers of tzeentch (ditto). It is tempting to expand more in that direction though.

Well if you want to expand in that direction lorewise and a little bit gameplay wise i think word bearers are the way to go. I don't know much about their vehicles but i imagine daemon engines are more popular than regular chaos vehicles such as predators to the word bearers.
If you want to expand in the realm of daemons the big thing to look at first is heralds, they give +1S and can cast buff spells on daemons aligned to their god, but this includes things like warp talons and daemon engines. For example a nurgle heldrake could get +1 to wound from a herald of nurgle or get healed for a few wounds each turn.
Each daemon type has a start collecting box, i would say grab one of those and maybe look into a greater daemon and you can summon these or even deploy them as another detachment. Slaanesh has a spell with a warp value of 8 (so not easy to cast) that lets a slaanesh daemon within 18 inches pile in and fight as though it were the fight phase. I'm sure you can imagine what a heldrake, defiler or maulerfiend dedicated to slaanesh could accomplish.

The guns look a little too heavy and imbalanced. One bad swing and your ammo goes flying. A chute at least flexes and puts less strain on the connection.

If you want the ammo to be on the guns, why not look at something smaller, like 3rd party drum mags or take drums from some other gun, like ork sluggs or guard grenade launchers?

Ha, yes those come with the model and they aren't extra. That's not a drum mag in the fist, its a motor.

Shit even after 4 days in the simple green my dreadclaw is trying as hard as it can to keep that gay primer on. I'm using a metal bristle brush, would re-dunking it for another 4 days ensure it comes off without me scraping this thing to pieces? The resin marines around it all shed their primer easy, in some cases before I took them out at all.

Besides the fact that fabius has had 10,000 years to work on his new man and still isn't done, and it took a savant like cawl thousands of years to make Primaris, and that's with basically everything you could want to make such a project easier, there's also the fact that it's a really really long jump from "Bile figures out how primaris work" to "all CSM have primaris in statiscally significant numbers"

I think plaguebearer heads or maybe chopping up some poxwalkers (to get those weird fleshy growths/horns) could provide some lovely additions to a possessed kit. My main concern would be finding weapons to replace some of the possessed arms, because the torsos/legs/shoulders of the kit are pretty good its just the goofy as fuck sword growth arms and the awful wings that make them look shit.

Hey /40kg/, I've got a question. I'm thinking about getting a Stalker/Hunter kit and using the Stalker's Icarus Stormcannons on a plastic Contemptor to make a Contemptor-Mortis with two twin-linked Autocannons.
Doesn't look like it would be difficult. Chop off the Contemptor's weapon arms at the elbow, glue Stormcannons on upside down, and do whatever plasticard/sculpting I have to to make it look properly attached. Not hard at all.

Problem is I've never even seen a Stalker in person, so I'm not quite sure about the size of the guns and how they'd actually match up with the Contemptor.

Anyone know if those guns would fit?

Yeah, but even then it seems really hard to justify a most legions getting access to them, let alon all the non-legion CSM, just by the nature of how CSM work. Someone like bile or whoever has the stuff AL stole from corax are not going to just say "step right up and get your free primaris," they're going to jew you as hard as they can snd even after you pay a ridiculous price they're still likely to fuck you over by giving you defective stuff, or decide the dudes you've given to be upgraded are better served to test other expeirments. That already limits how many chaos primaris you'd see, and it's not even accounting for all the rivalries and hatred that would make the situation more complex.
It'll be interesting to see what they come up with, I hope they just don't go "and all the legions had their medics develop Chaos Primaris at around the same time, now buy more models" because that would be fucking gay.

How do I paint lore friendly Techpriests without making my Salamanders army christmas themed?

Also how to make Librarians stand out less? Apothecaries look alright since only their head and arms are red and white, and the black of Chaplains already fits the Salamander's scheme, but all blue and all red just really stands out.

Which is great, though a bit sad because that really put CSM over the loyalists dex. Now we're just a slightly worse dex with one or two good legions and copy pasted everything else. I'm really disappointed with the codex.

Bundle where you can too.
SC! Box for Guard gets you a Battle Tank and the bits for an infantry squad plus a heavy weapon. Two of those will solve your regular Russ, Lord Commissar and two of your infantry squads while netting a bonus Commissar.

OR the armored fist box would grab you a Chimera and an infantry team each just missing the heavy weapons that come 3 to a box anyway.

Bonus protip on HWT. If you can live with a two wound model only having one dude on it pick up some 50mm bases and you can totally get 6 teams out of each box.

What clan do you like the most? Read through the basic clan descriptions, and then gear your army towards their gimmick. Right now Blood Axe and Deathskulls feel a little odd without looted wagons, but I assume that shit will come back and you can just run looted stuff as trukks or battlewagons for the time being. If you just want a bunch of boyz, Goffs are a great all around clan.

It's hard for me to really say how to start these days, since I have slowly been building up a force since 2nd ed, and most of it was just spur of the moment at the time. My first real purchase beyond starter box orks (with the cardboard dreffdread) was a box of Stormboyz just because I thought they sounded cool. So I'd probably suggest getting a solid base of boyz, nobs, trukk, warboss, and from there just going with whatever sounds cool to you at the time. It's hard to say what will get a boost or nerf between faqs or whenever the codex comes out, but most basic stuff will always have a use. And most specialty troops (burnas/lootas and stormboyz for example) have enough bits where you can stretch those parts into a cheap boyz box and get quite a few extras. I'm currently thinking of building a few tankbusters, but that's a lot of bits (so save up the single rokkit you get from your boyz boxes if you want those down the line).

So I can't decide between a relic contemptor with two c-beam cannons, or a relic deimos preadator with c-beam and sponsons. Both cost about the same price and points wise i think.

There is a fourth option. Exorcism. It is possible for someone like that to have the daemon removed. The process is not fun and at least according to the black crusade rpg doesn't make you less close to spawndom, just means the daemon wont push you towards it any more.
