There was a sort of Norse / Scifi offering a few years back called "Outlander" - a space marine crashes on Earth hauling a lethal alien, and after hypercramming his head full of files on language and Earth culture and experiencing a few misunderstandings with the local vikings, has to do his level best to stop the fucking thing with Dark Ages tech before it eats half of fucking Norway.

Vikings is great fun, though it can't be counted on as a reliable source if you want a historical campaign.
It makes me smile whenever the show visits Ragner's town in Kattegat (which is a sea), enclosed by mountains (there's not a single mountain in Denmark).
