Paizo Games General /pgg/ (also /pfg/)

What's the dumbest/most dim-witted character you've ever played? What were they like?

The dumbest I've played yet is an uneducated, dim slave. He's not actually as stupid as he thinks he is, but being denied education for most of his life has left it kind of a fixed idea in his mind that he's stupid.

It's not a bad archetype, per-se, but it feels like they didn't quite think half of it through and makes me wish they had gone back and revised it a little.
IMO, should have given you effective weapon training in 1 weapon at 4th and 10th, in place of Spell Recall and the original Fighter Training, capping at either +2 at 10th or +3 at 16th. Maybe that's just me though.

I like how unchained poisons separate the two

Confused: A character who's confused by Wisdom poison has difficulty processing reality and is dangerous to herself and others. Each round, she rolls on the chart from the confusion spell to determine her actions.

Pliable: A character rendered pliable by Charisma poison has little sense of self and will go along with nearly anything. Bluff, Diplomacy, and Intimidate checks automatically succeed against a pliable character, except Diplomacy checks to improve a pliable character's attitude, which have the normal DC. This still does not allow characters to whom the pliable character is unfriendly or hostile to make requests of the pliable character using Diplomacy.
>>

So my friend's character's family are dead and he wants to resurrect them. I introduced several generic adventure hooks for how he could go about accomplishing this, but he wants to fight a noble djinn to get 3 wishes and use them to resurrect his mother father and sister. Three wishes, and three of his family are dead. I figure its fitting. The problem is, he is a bit cocky about beating this thing. So I am thinking, hmmm maybe I should buff this thing up a bit with sorcerer levels. Because (1) I think it's retarded that something capable of giving out 3 wishes is only CR 8, and (2) I think him giving them a cool quest on an elemental plane of air when none of us have ever had characters on another plane before in any of our campaigns, would be better.

Is that railroading / dick GM territory? What's your opinion, /pfg/?

That's just it though. Int and Wisdom to Cha skills make sense but Cha to Int and Wisdom doesn't. This is more of an issue of Charisma just being a worthless thing inherently in terms of mechanics and thematics.

Charisma by default, isn't a stat representing competence in a certain area and by default isn't actually used to achieve anything. It's the stat for getting people to do things FOR YOU, which is kinda bad when you're a PC that's expected to contribute things other than a pretty face.

>Cha to Int stuff tends to make sense to me as someone who's really good at just winging it OR is going full on mad scientist and working with mad theories and a rock hard belief that they are right.
That's just it though. Winging it doesn't tend to work in real world scenarios and believing you're right doesn't mean you actually are.

Paizo has clarified on the forums and claimed it would make it to FAQ several times that multiple bonuses of the same stat to something do not stack.

You can get Cha to ac, and Cha as an insight bonus to ac, but you cannot just get Cha to ac twice, or Cha as an insight bonus to ac twice.
>>
>>54680008
Every single thread I can find in a google search about the topic has people pointing out that, as both are untyped bonuses from the same source, they would not stack. It's like how that one Inquisitor Archetype getting Wis-to-Diplomacy/Bluff twice via Infiltrator and the Conversion Inquisition doesn't work.

>>
>>54680148
I don't think that's how sexual attraction usually works. Most guys I know who like fatties are thin.
>>
>>54672688
The Veteran benefit could stand to be written a little better. "This includes the BAB increase (+10/+15/+20 at level 20)." should really be something more like "Increase your class's BAB by 1 step (1/2>3/4>1 BAB per level) [or 0.5>0.75>1]." so it's similar in structure to the first line about the HD increase, "this includes the BAB increase" implies there is a referenceable rule that says BAB inherently is tied to HD size, when that is only technically a rule of thumb. It's a minor thing really, but clarity is always good to have, plus I think giving the BAB ratio progression makes more sense to give than the end level 20 BAB (fractional progression is pretty popular Unchained rule anyways). My initial reading swapped the order of the level 20 BABs with my brain initially thinking it was just ordered wrong and that it was saying that even d6 to d8 got full BAB with +20/+15/+10 at level 20.
>>
>>54680126
It strains believably less. Somebody giving a decent speech even when they aren't a character strains suspension of disbelief a lot less than someone who can consistently guess historical dates, monster abilities or create complex machinery by just "guessing".

Her backstory doesn't really speak much to the life of a potential pirate, except for the fact that she apparently had a ship. All her connections are to a place that's clear across the setting map from Port Peril. Her hooks in her backstory are all tied up in Korvosa. She'd be more fitting in a Curse of the Crimson Throne game.

>It strains believably less.

That's entirely subjective. After all, the person using Cha to Stat still has the training (Ranks in the skill). They are just combining said training with being very good at winging it rather than being logical.

>That sounds kind of cool. Every member of race X is born pregnant, but it's not until they hear something really cool or interesting that the tiny life within them wakes up and decides to be born, so it can explore this fascinating concept personally.

>I love me some weird 'alien' reproductive techniques.

>Imagine a race like Paizo's skinshifters, only they are all one race, and all one gender. They reproduce by consuming an animal during a specific time of the year (if they don't want a baby, they eat vegetarian during that 'time of the year'), and the baby has traits of that animal type (so if a shifter mommy-to-be wants a bear-shifter baby, she eats bear meat, and the baby is born a bear-kin, even if 'mom' is a wolf-kin or a bat-kin or something).

>A variant tiefling race could function the same way. Planar adapted humanoids that have two genders, but can't get pregnant unless the mother consumes some outsider flesh to prime the pump. The child, regardless of the tiefling sub-type of it's parents, will have the outsider heritage of the outsider meat used. So two demonspawn tieflings could catch an imp, cut off it's arm, and have a devilspawn child. The outsider 'donor' (victim) is jokingly called 'the midwife,' and despite many outsiders being able to regenerate flesh lost to this tactic, it's not a popular role.

It's one of those things with pathfinder's skill system. Int often ends up being seen as part of 'Being knowledgeable about stuff' but that's more ranks in the skill. Stat is more how you take advantage of that knowledge/apply it in a practical situation.

It's why I feel like Cha-based spellcraft is VERY fitting for sorcerers/bards. Improvisation is a very important talent for a performer and the sorcerer has been 'I'll just try what feels natural' from day 1.

Bards can totally get SM as a cha skill through Versatile Performance. Even worse, with a Blade of Three Fancies or Deific Obedience to Shelyn, they can get a +4 sacred bonus to all of them. >>
>>54680891
Siege weapons are never a good idea to specialize in unless you can trick your GM into letting you count a hand-held weapon as one.

Cannons, when they come up, will basically keep you bound to your ship if you specialize in them.

And furthermore, S&S as written has no cannons until the tail end of Book 6. It's all catapults, ballistas, and boarding parties until then.

Mind you, pathfinder does have some serious stat imbalances. Since 3/6 stats don't actually help saves at all. A Str/Cha character for example is going to suck at saves for not a whole heap of gain. It's why we have so damn many 'I want cha to Y', as Cha is inherently a borderline worthless stat.

It's one of those things that 4e did very well, making every single stat help a save (Without going to 6 different saves like 5e did).

The 4th-level ability is kind of ridiculous; no fatigue is an effect that comes online at a much higher level for Barbarians/Bloodragers, and requires a minimum of 9th character level (Barb 8 / Lame Oracle 1) to get it early. >>
>>54680934
A large character or a character considered large can use them as two handed firearms with a -4 penalty, negligible due to targeting touch AC.

At level 5 with PoW allowed you can grab Twin Thunder Stance, letting you wield two handed weapons in one hand. TTS is also bullshit with Elephant in the Room Feat Tax but I'd probably keep it as intended.

Gunsmoke Mystic can reload them as a free action for a single point of Animus, saving money on cannonballs by using a pretty plentiful resource and cutting out the huge reload time.

The price of the cannons themselves is a problem, but the build I'm currently looking at has room for things like pistols or maybe a blunderbuss.

>And furthermore, S&S as written has no cannons until the tail end of Book 6. It's all catapults, ballistas, and boarding parties until then.

That, I did not know. I could possibly make a single cannon if the DM allows the creation of one through Gunsmithing, but other than that I'd be out of luck.

"In most cases, a Large or larger creature can use a siege firearm as a two-handed firearm, but the creature takes a –4 penalty for using it this way because of its awkwardness."

This basically means that I can ignore crew and aim rules, right? If I'm using it as a two-handed firearms, things like aiming and the cannon's movement really shouldn't apply. Especially if the target is like, 30 feet away.

That's incredible to me. I don't know how anybody honestly thinks LWC is a workable playstyle for Pathfinder or any game that isn't pretty intensely freeform. I also don't know why any of them would recruit from /pfg/. /pfg/ is both filled with fetish fuckers and filled with people who can recognize a shitty game when they see one and aren't afraid to say as much. Neither work well for the LWC crowd.

For my artisan, I made a colossal animated object house that had a burrow speed, so it was regularly underneath the town and enough Warden Jacks to cover the entire map. Nobody fucked with me mostly becasue the character was naive and actually pleasant. Other people made crafters, and he actually helped them get established. Then he got nerfed because some other player was abusing the stupid homebrew leveling system to fuck with other PCs, and they complained. So all crafters were dropped to a level near the other PCs, which for me, was something like 8 levels.

For the character that got banned, I just made a shitton of money. Didn't even spend it on anything. Just had it. Only spoke to others, didn't try to influence anything. The GM that took my character was making some bullshit homebrew constructs that were way over CR and way under price of anything else available at his character's level, and cited "balance" as why my character was taken. The games are a fucking gongshow.

>>54681991

Somehow Gloriana, the character, has never really been attractive to me. It's not because she's damaged goods or anything, but there's something about the lack of mystery to her.

Maybe it's just the fact that I find PLD spectacularly un-sexy, more so now that I've seen the logs. Everything in that game has a heavy accent on physical pain and mental anguish, to the point where it's not even fetishized, it's just unpleasant and made me want to open my fucking wrists.

Or maybe it's the fact that the players and GM always seem so fucking smug about how shocking and bold they think they're being.

Weapon modification for alchemical splash weapons: Half price of splash weapon in order to turn it into a pellet that can be drawn like ammunition. It is thrown for only the direct damage instead of the splash weapon and therefore cannot be thrown at a square to deal damage to a target. Still acts like a splash weapon for how it interacts with an Alchemist's Throw Anything feature or the launching crossbow.

Or should it be 1/3rd of the price?

Then why are the sexual elements all you talk about? They're how you advertised the game.

Rape is the central defining factor of the setting's custom content and corruption mechanic. Rape is the result of every lost battle. Players were required to state what of monsters, monstergirls, and humans they were most willing to fuck.

You made a game about rape, Vult, don't piss on my head and tell me it's raining. This is like Tommy Wiseau trying to pretend The Room was a comedy.

Ulfen, like "born in the Lands of the Linnorm Kings" ulfen? Could be he's a thrall who got traded further and further south until he got to the Shackles, or he might have been taken captive on his way to Taldor, or he might have just heard that there were weaklings with lots of money in the area willing to shell out for a strong bodyguard.

10/10 chart, but DD boobs aren't actually huge. It's a misconception, possibly due to all the incorrectly sized bras women wear. DD is average in the US which realistically means it's only a size or two bigger than average in Golarion at most.

I would change the text to G or use a different adjective.

Also, she's so friggin cute in that page, at least compared to the other works of her.

>>54683081
It's weird though.
Varisians almost never get discriminated against. The people who get shit on in Korvosa are almost always the Shoanti, while Varisians are looked on with a mild sense of awe, and it's Chelish descent that people don't like on account of having just got their independence within the last century.

It's like they're the default "victim" ethnicity, but only when an occasional module calls for it, and at all other times nobody bats an eye.

I decided on this:

>Accursed Intimacy (Ex): Lust is a more intimate dialogue than wrath or sorrow, and cannot be applied haphazardly. The decadent courtier can only apply the bonuses from Accursed Will to her attacks of opportunity, or strikes made in place of attacks of opportunity with her Lust’s Downfall ability.
>This modifies Accursed Will.

Which makes the archetype feel a bit more like a proper trade now, without being too big of a nerf because it's an AoO focused archetype that rarely attacks during their turn.
