Cryptids in campaigns

I've got a campaign running where my players are playing themselves in an alternate horror universe filled with Cryptids, Mythological Creatures and Lovecraft inspired horrors.

Its actually sort of fun, pick a monster of the week and throw it at them. Then they do some internet research to figure out how to defeat it.

>jack and i talk to some punk kids about smoking and eat some donuts
>aurora cooks some pasta for some very yelpers
>chief hikes the trails and sees some deer and a skunk
>but nothing really happens
>our dm before the campaign informed us that he would be doing a lighthearted slice of life type of thing so this was what we were expecting
>night comes and i get a drink with jack in auroras restaurant
>chief is just packing up to get back to home
>i forgot to mention that chief, jack, and i have a signal on some walkie talkies and we regularly talk
>chief tells us he's packing up and heading back into town and should be back in a few hours if he hurries
>we rp in the restaurant
>the dm is passing notes to chief
>chief goes quiet
>starts making rolls
>rapid note passing begins
>chief radios in that he's being followed by something and he had to take shots
>he's wounded
>we pay our tab and rush to the edge of town in our squad car and sprint onto the trail
>we hear more shots in the distance and chief is rolling like a fucking madman
>we run into chief a few minutes later and nearly get shot
>explains again that something was chasing him
>his back is torn the fuck up
>says the thing that chased him wasn't human
>we're a bit skeptical and take chief in back to town
>all while hearing something crunch leaves behind us the entire way back

>chief is in the hospital recovering from his wounds
>whatever attacked him was filthy as he's now suffering from some sort of infection
>cant even visit him
>jack and i begin our patrols around town
>really quiet today
>get more donuts
>after an hour of real time we get a call
>domestic assault or a murder
>rush to the address asap
>announce ourselves at the door and after no response we break the door in
>blood. fucking. everywhere.
>the mangled corpse of one of the teachers is in the middle of the living room
>poor gal was torn to shreds
>call in everything
>before we leave the house we see something shuttle across the hall
>GIVE CHASE
>find an open window and catch a fleeting glimpse of something

>autopsy reveals every major organ is missing or bitten into
>all bones are broken
>marrow is missing
>official report says bear attack

>chief is on his feet, but has to take meds
>ever since the "bear attack" things start getting weird around the town
>people are reporting a thing going through their trash
>no one actually sees the damned thing, but we get reports none the less
>sheriff is beginning to get pissed and calls in a few favors
>soon we got a legion of fucking animal control officers here (about 9 or so of them)
>they're all briefed on the happenings except for chiefs attack
>all of them set out to work

>aurora is working the night shift
>her and a fellow waiter
>chief, jack, and i in the restaurant
>at this point we've talked to aurora, but only ever briefly
>all of us including the waiter are all talking about the shit going on in the town
>many people are saying it's bigfoot or something
>at that point we believed them
>dm lowers the lights to almost pitch blackness
>lights a single fucking candle
>uses a real god pots and pans to make a crashing noise
>tells us it came from outside the restaurant
>aurora goes to investigate
>all of the trash cans have been knocked over
>something is going through the cans
>she screams
>a large appendage slams on the side of the can and pic related crawls out from it
>dm "combat is starting roll for initiative"

>jack goes first and pulls out his pistol
>rolls high and scores the thing in its neck
>this foul smelling purple liquid bursts from its neck and paints the wall
>doesnt do shit
>the things turn is next and it lunges at aurora who is closest
>it digs its appendage into her shoulder, goes for the neck and thankfully misses
>aurora produces a butchers cleaver tries to slam it in the creatures back
>nat 20!
>bone is heard breaking as the creature drops to the floor in pain
>before my turn can start it turns into black mist and floats away

>this starts happening to all of my cams
>tell jack to watch the cams as i go outside
>hear all kinda of weird shit
>i look out into the forest
>holy fuck
>eyes
>eyes everywhere
>all of them staring at me
>you know when you see something darker than the current dark
>i see that as something begins to come closer to the house
>i flip on my guns light
>see something akin to this
>roll to shoot
>16
>shoot it square in the chest
>it keeps walking towards me
>keep shooting
>walk

>it stops and raises its deformed hand
>i suddenly fly into the door and break it down
