There was a bit of misunderstanding about the options in the last thread as well, so let me clarify.
Think of each option like Schrodinger's Cat.
They are simultaneously all actually there and not there at once.
The only one that becomes a concrete reality is the one you choose.
So you don't have to feel guilty about not choosing the other two.

The isekai part is more or less part and parcel of a properly designed CYOA, regardless of meta knowledge. It is of utmost importance that the character you are choosing stuff for is YOU, otherwise you lose all of the wish fulfillment/fantasy elements and may as well just go play an RPG instead.

On the other hand, that basically means that using it as the CYOA theme itself is probably redundant and generic, it's basically a "CYOA CYOA".

I don't think you need to know a ton about the setting to suggest characteristics for companions, though. I think you're over-complicating things a bit.

Basic idea is with that with friend turtle Gideons smuggling jobs will net us good profit going between ports or up rivers while staying deep and unknown. Hunting in the wild helps feed friend turtle so thats less cost and befriending leenya opens many opportunities be they political, mercantile, or salvaging the depths with friend.
Come pirate age Imagine turtle friend would be in high demand for either side aswell as looting the wrecks. Saving folk adrift or stranded would be a good reputation earner, maybe even earn some favors.
Elf war - Summer elf side - take all companions except the sniper.
Control the Waves - Friend turtle and merfriends rule the waves
Hold the pass - High Touch combined with the companions should make this possible. especially Copias healing.
Skirmish and Scout - None pass by my rivers
Reward - Elf bride, Not waifu I swear! Political and mercantile connections are more valuable than instant payout.

Longterm goal of meeting and befriending merfolk and introducing profitable trade between the sea depths and land. Earn enough to retire on as big an island as possible and build a city.

Okay, i choose The fantastic and it tuned out great. Peach with giant tits, does it get any better? You can't master a Learned magic without some form of instruction, period. It's like trying to learn German without anyone who speaks German, or without instructional materials.

If there is a Learned magic, and no one who knows it / can teach it exists, then it can be "re-discovered" over a period of literally millenia.

That's a really cool thought, but I think the power level is much lower than in Necromancer. The hunters of the new era might be able to shred through a basic zombie or vampire, but what the hell could they do against an Abomination? Let alone the Necromancer themself, who no doubt has their immortality option on lock.

Even as the most killable of the schools, a Promraen Caro user with Potion of Khizaz, I'd still be confident in my ability to fight. Not that I'd want to, since even in the base CYOA I'm the lay low and do science type.

Hell, come to think of it, I'd probably help the hunters under the radar in an effort to take out the other necromancers who can't chill the fuck out. I'd pretend to be a mad scientist, I doubt many of them would be able to tell I'm using necromantic energy to heal and reinforce. That's a pretty cool thought.
