Have you never once in your life asked your friends for a favor? You're literally asking them to take a few minutes out of their (often very long) lives to make a decision that will most benefit the group in the long-term. And this isn't just helping you set up the group hangout or anything, these are decisions which could have drastic implications on your nature and the way you interact with the world, which opportunities you have, and many other things for... potentially eternity. And they're decisions that you and they will likely never be able to make again.

And in return, they get: Infinite-use resurrective immortality, everything they acquired and more (assuming this jumper spreads powers and items around- which considering they have power-sharing, they should), the chance to explore worlds they've only dreamt of, and probably more. They lose nothing other than the (comparatively-less) opportunity cost, and there's hardly any reason to complain (unless the jumper's an abusive ass). I know you're going to say "hurr but mutual power-sharing is inherently abusive". But it's not. At least not inherently. Because you don't have to force them into it, they'd probably do it if asked. It's not actually abusive, you know, because they only stand to gain from this whole deal. And they can leave at any time. And then, you spend ten years with them. Are you saying that the only interactions you can have with them is when you purchase shit with CP and everything else- that whole ten years (which is a lot of fucking time btw) is completely meaningless? That the only thing that matters in a relationship, is the exchange of gifts? But not just gifts, the specific gifts the other person chooses from a catalog? Seems kind of shallow of you, if I'm being honest.

Sounds like a dumb question, but given the chance, would you or would you not go on an actual jumpchain?

Well, genderswaps are usually opt-in and at the start of nearly any jump. That would meet both definitions. Bodymod lets you flip-flop twice in a given jump, and that's without specific perks like shapeshifting.

There's a Harry Potter/Abridged Hellsing crossover that's absolutely fantastic. Harry is a butler. And Malfoy gets recruited.

Honestly, I'd take companions if I thought I'd be able to write around them. But I'd probably bring a few of my close friends from real life if it wouldn't cost me a ton of points from the warehouse to pod them. It'd be fun to go on adventure with at least a few of my friends, as long as they wouldn't backstab me at some point for some perceived moral atrocity I'd commit. Though, I'm thinking that my sister and my friends are aware that's probably coming eventually.

I'm a guy, but I'm genuinely interested, if only for the contrast. If I'd like it, it'd be great, if not I'd be thankful since I wouldn't be dysphoric and suicidal. I have enough faith in our jumpmakers that they'll let inter-jump combos minimally affect their jumpmaking decisions. I'd be extremely disappointed if something like that happened, but it is what it is. Started to nerf options in one jump because things offered in another, and have it be treated as acceptable... Yeah, that'd probably mark the start of the End of Jumpchain, imho. If effectively censoring discussion of certain perks and chain concepts wouldn't itself.

The only ones I can understand doing something like that are the makers who've offered the relevant perks, as they provide the bulk of said capability, and were arguably used beyond their intended purpose. Obviously it'd be great if they provided an actual reason, so as to not set a silly precedence.

Well, you probably want to be a bit nicer. You still want to describe the location, especially if you're only going with one. They're encouraged things to include, location rolls, but not ultimately necessary.

Things not to do...there's a bunch and not everyone agrees on what not to do. There's not too much to say there if you're actually making a jump that's not been claimed/made by anyone else (Which you aren't).

Stuff I think you should know? Hmm. Try watching the series as you think stuff up or looking into online resources like wikis and the like if you get stuck. Sometimes memory isn't enough. Feel free to ask people for help if you get stuck, in thread or IRC. Try to stick to the series and show off the cool stuff in that setting/the stuff you like about the setting through the perks.

My process? Er, could explain but it'd probably need to be in another post and it's a bit more geared for making multiple at once. So I guess if you're really curious I'll do it in another post.

When it might not work? it's very rare that a setting might not work. A lot of things like Origins or locations or even the jump format can be played around with to fit stuff that ordinarily wouldn't work. I'd say to shy away from stuff where you need to have origins with massive power disparities until you do a few, since those can be a little tricky to handle.

Power-sharing without any loss is rare, yes. But exchanging stuff or temporally passing down some powers is not that rare. Also, there are many skills (mostly ones related to science) and powers (biological ones) that shouldn't be hard to pass down.

Well, I mean jumping is kinda subjective. I wouldn't put a lot of faith in the podcast lasting ten years on it's own but that's my opinion... Mainly based on the fact that half of the hosts may expire on year five considering their lifestyle choices.

I personally bring any number of companions that I want into the jump. Between mega-ship crews, single-slot multicompanions and bringing entire civilizations or dimensions with you, the old eight limit makes little sense right now.

I'm just gonna put this out there: If you're a Riolu in the first Pokemon Mystery game, you're basically a legendary hero.

See, when Lucario was first introduced, Pokemon REALLY pushed it to the forefront in advertising. It got movies, special recruitment requirements, and NPCs that patterned their look over it, in addition to its basically unique powers. Ash even discovered that he had aura powers, too, and then they proceeded to do nothing with that revelation ever.
And Pokemon Mystery was no different. Being released right around the time Lucario was introduced, it has actual backstory where Lucario was a legendary single pokemon Rescue Team, who went around helping Pokemon and generally being awesome just because, and its deeds as a hero are what inspired all other Pokemon to form Rescue Teams and go out to help where they are needed. You could say that Lucario's contribution then is the entire premise of the Pokemon Mystery games.

... but this was SO early in Lucario's development, that Lucario is not actually in the game code, and in fact, nobody at the time even knew that Riolu was a thing that existed.
Lucario is merely mentioned (somewhat frequently) in dialog as the basis for rescue teams. Nobody in that first game ever actually meets one.
... so just imagine how fucking psyched everyone would be if it turned out you were part of the same evolutionary line of one?!

Are the Holy Blades even worth messing with? Reading the document makes me want to buy all 7 pieces of Excalibur to reforge the original blade, and with discounts and the free 400 sword it only costs 1200. I feel like gender swapping would just happen, if not in Ranma 1/2 then through various shapeshifting powers. I do dislike the eight Companion limit, but funny enough I follow it always. Mechanically it makes little sense in Jumpchain as a whole. But! When it comes to writing it gets hard to give everyone enough screen time to keep them more than a face in the crowd when you get up past ten or so Companions, even when you're writing 10K words or so for each Jump.

I also fudge my location rolls from time to time to fit my narrative better.

So I've been watching Ex-Aid to get a feel for the Kamen Rider stuff that is current, and then a thought came to mind. What if the Jumper used Jumper the Inferno (Drawback from Generic Video Game Developer) as the base for his Gashat?

That's for standard communication which relied on a network of probes and satellites and sometimes the relays themselves.
QE devices theoretically don't have any bandwidth problems. It is literally instant communication. Shepard used it to have hologram communication with the Illusive man with zero lag.

For the basis of bandwidth, it'd be best to ignore anything the wiki says about "transmitting one quantum bit at a time." Quantum entanglement is literally instantaneous, regardless of distance. What one particle does, the twin reflects at the exact same time. The only true limitation is the peer to peer issue; a QE-particle will only communicate with its twin. This can be rectified by having several QE-particles though; long as money isn't a problem.

In the end, I'm pretty sure it comes down to two things.
One, the writers are not scientists with expert knowledge and a theoretical subject.
Two, it's probable more stating how an Entanglement device uses multiple particles and it is got to be really expensive for them to make even a single quantum-entangled particle.

Sure, SupCom might have better QE devices (considering how they like to slap Quantum on to everything like it was the latest buzz word), but Mass Effect QE is still better than any FTL based device.

The first thing you have to keep in mind with a self-insert story is that the title is a bit misleading - while you're using your own personality as a base, not the entirety of the Jumper's actions. Ten years is a long time and odds are you're being put in a younger brain/body, or a 'better' one, so personality change is liable to be a bit more fluid in a new situation. So your character is likely to be a very different person from you by jump one alone. So they'll become an OC of your own making after a while.

That aside, decide what sort of story do you want to write? Standard wish fulfillment? Play with or even take apart commonly discussed Jumpchain tropes? Just mess around and make funny little stories for each jump? I can give you some ideas, depending on which one.

You're confusing /distance covered/ with /amount of communication/ per time, then. Bandwith is how fast you talk (how much information you can disclose in a given time frame), not fudging how far your words reach and how quickly.

Transmitting one quantum bit at a time caps bandwith based on how much information you can encode into each shimmy you make the particle do. Yes it reaches the destination instantly, but then you need to take into account how long the interpretive dance routine has to be to get the whole message across.

I think maybe my mistake was using special rules.
I decided I couldn't become smarter and I only had 500CP per jump. I was trying to keep myself challenged and not too OP but it ended up being unfun.
I'll try again under normal rules, full-on power fantasy, and see how it goes.

One other piece of advice I would offer is to focus on your goals when jumping. What does your jumper want? What will get in the way of that? What will he need to do reach his goals? Both in terms of the entire chain and each individual jump.

Usually when I hit a slump I work on something else for a little while, but not everyone likes to do that. So perhaps take a Drawback or two that you wouldn't normally. Maybe instead of having a canon story play out, derail the plot line entire due to your Jumper's actions. How would the antagonists react? What new plans would they come up with? Would they develop/find new powers to oppose you with?

Or maybe concentrate on inter-personal drama for a little while. Write some scene work of your Jumper and Companions interacting. It doesn't have to be anything important. Arguments are usually a fun place to start. They're always going to happen, even among best friends, and especially among a bunch of personalities thrown together. Show off bits of personality, their points of view, explore the way a Companion looks at the world instead of just seeing it through the Jumper's eyes.

Of course, if all else fails, kick your Jumper in the nuts and see what shakes loose. Even if you don't end up using the scene where your Jumper gets shanked on the toiler, sometimes you get a flash of inspiration from writing it out.

Stellaris gives you your empire at the end, the Tyranid jump has a scenario that lets you take your Hive if you beat it, and Dragon Ball AF lets you bring a fleet of your race with you. I'm sure there's others, these are just the ones off the top of my head.

Don't worry about that - I tend to write my Jumper as impulsive and a bit thick-skulled even after I give them intelligence perks. People can still act weird or even stupid with the best of intentions at times (or at least that's what I find funny). In terms of writing for power-fantasy, here's what I go with:

1. Make sure there's beats (or 'exchanges') between both characters or sides in a conflict. Jumper may win in the end, but how do they do it? Some particularly stubborn opponents won't take it lying down, even against overwhelming odds. How does it shape the battle?

2. Treat perks as plot devices, not rules. If they become too annoying to keep track of to keep a plot idea you like feasible, just hand-wave it with benefactor fuckery at work. Or maybe they don't work all the time, like I did for Destroyer of Worlds.

3. Companion interactions are the most important/fun thing you can write with a straight up fantasy chain.

I think I answered this a long time ago and the general verdict is 'possibly, but it would take a very, very, very, VERY long time'. You're liable to end up like the Dragon Kings first before actually reaching that point.

I remember the general agreement was that it'd be astoundingly unlikely you'd end up to grow into something like Ophis without a lot of outside help, but for things like the Dragon Kings and Heavenly Dragons it's possible - it will just take a lot of growth and time. I don't think I need really need to update the jump after reading the new quest update.

The drones were cool but you can just get them in jump. I don't want to make the Valkyrie customization section be super bloated. I've seen some video game jumps where the item section is so bloated because it includes every single item you can find in game including useless ones.

I might just do a quick minor update buffing the simulator item, clarifying Impeller strength, clarifying Antagonists, and maybe making you immune to Valkyrie Detachment Syndrome.

Initial storage capacity is I don't know. Different origins come with different levels. You can kind of estimate it based on cadet Valkyries storing their frame which includes the armor, weapons, thrusters, and a fusion reactor. Complexity is usually more of a worry.
