They are both absurdly broken, C'tan is science at its greatest height where with the Old ones it is NotMagic aka The Warp.

Both are capable of great and terrible things, The old ones however seem to have more of a knack with biology and the creation of life where the C'tan are more towards the Lifeless.

Wormhole tech, playing with blackholes and time travel are all in the Necron ballpark.

I know most people (who care at all) would rather me finishing World of Myth and Wonder, and I am working on it, but I tweak other things as a break. So, 1.2 minor changes:

* slightly more points for multiple pets options, since you have to buy the same thing multiple times.
* replaced "extant" with "non-extinct" because apparently people don't know that word.
* simplified the number of options in needlessly complex species selection section
* Added line about how using your pet as an assassin beast may cause the "unremarkable field" to break down.
* Formatting improvements regarding line breaks and text wrap in a few places.

Here's a WIP of Stock Show. I'm still lacking the titular mechanic at the end, and the aftergame results, but I've got a lot set up before then.

I'd like feedback to see if I'm on the right track, and suggestions for more things to do. More regemins, more chores, more luxuries, and especially more companions. I only need the ideas, I can do the rest of the work.

I was going to wait until World of Myth and Wonder was also done, but I'll go ahead and post it now. I cannot escape the autistic perfectionism that this CYOA brings out in me.

Muscle definition seems like it would better worked in as category of body shape and SE either being taken out and fitness training/dieting (or lack there of) being covered by Asset Enhancement or SE becoming a suboption of the former leaving Alpha Resocialization to be an option probably restricted to stock with a certain level of Muscle Definition.

It's 30% clutter, which for a CYOA is a big deal. You've got only tiny boxes for information and SDA fills it with shit like "see section 33 b of the Tuvan throat-singing concordat", or he mentions unexplained shit like Biotic Mana-Jerking or Automatic Leyline-Fellation, which is just more dead space. And because there's so little space in the CYOA, it takes a big part of the "spotlight" -- it's just as focused upon as the useful CYOA, which is frustrating.

I appreciate that this is a common view, and have no problem with anyone who wants to create a RP thread for altering history. I'll probably follow it if they do, and there are certainly people still who want to participate.

I've matured a bit on that point. I still namefag occasionally, but only when A) It is relevant that it is me talking, and B) The content of my post does not make it obvious that it is me talking. As my CYOAs all have my name at the top, it is rarely the case that both of those things are true.

As for reddit, I have nothing against it, and in fact have posted several of my CYOAs there. However, I only do so when I am satisfied with their state of completion. /tg/ is the best place for feedback and improvement, reddit is just a place to post something complete for people to enjoy, and share builds. Both of those things have their value to me.

Version 2 of Altering History is just about there, though I will wait a bit longer to see if feedback pops up.

As a note, this is prior to the "auto-rebirth" options being added, as well as several magic schools, and the discounts for fate modifiers. So you can actually accomplish less, at more risk, than the newest version.

If you choose "Deity Descended" in the newest version, it's unquestionably "better" than 1.7.1 from a single player perspective, in that you can do more in every way.

I'm not offended by people using older versions at all, but you're honestly trapping yourself by going back this far. If you must go back, I would suggest 2.1 if anything, but with the latest "A Magical People" addition in 2.2.1, I can't see any real reason to even do that.

In 1.7 you had 120 points, and death was permanent if you were killed. You could get up to 140 points equivalent through quest rewards (since you could only get them from 2)

In 2+, in single player if you wish, you can do Deity Descended, *start* with 160 points, and have no fear of death. Even with the difference in Impervious cost, this is better than 1.7 from a "power fantasy" perspective. In every way, as far as I can tell. And if it's not better in every way than 1.7, then that is an oversight that I would love to have pointed out to me.

Even the more "balanced" option of Figure of Legend starts with 120 points, can get up to 140 via quests, and if they pick the "Metahuman" discount can do better at becoming an unstoppable monster than 1.7 could. AND has limited rebirth protection.

Why not just make it an Optional RP Rule? Like weaker magic/tecnhology/etc? Say you want to play an RP without people teaching the Sumerians how to make and use fighter jets? I think it could give each RP the potential for more flavor or something. Maybe I want to play a magic based RP with science shit as largely irrelevant? Things to consider.

In general I think you should balance the base CYOA as single player and then put all your balance changes under the multiplayer section. The CYOA is kinda a mess because it's half-balanced for both at the same time. Or at least multiplayer and singleplayer stuff different colors, so we can easily tell which applies to us when we are making our build.

But I still love this CYOA and would like to make a multiplayer build for when you finalize it.

So, Mana-wave phtsics is basically just the physics and chemistry of magic while leyline dynamics technically fits underneath mana-wave physics, but is specifically anything that relates to energy. It's a little loopy, I wish someone with a better understanding of such fields could help me define these things but I'm not studying either.

You raise important points which I will respond to seriously.

The reason that I want the new, weaker Imbue as the "default" option with the original as an optional rule is that I consider the new balance to be a better CYOA in all perspectives. We both know that if it had been that way from the beginning, no one would raise a fuss. Players cannot make an arbitrary number of people super strong and impossibly tough, so I consider it "more balanced" that they can also not make an arbitrary number of people "super wizards".

When people who have not seen this CYOA before come across it in the future, I want the weaker imbue to be the rule they see as the "base" rule. But I completely respect that "nerfing" existing builds in the way I did was uncalled for, and hence I re-added the optional rule as a way to essentially grandfather in such things, or make them possible in the future for those who really want to.

As far as multiplayer/single player, I *do* see the base CYOA as balanced for single player. I think the weaker imbue is fundamentally a better balance, even for single player, because worlds covered in magic is supposed to be handled by the DLC. The optional rule is not a way to correct what I see as a problem with the balance, but rather a way to not take away from players something significant that they had once had.

If you want to play a magic based RP then World of Myth and Wonder is going to be for you. That's precisely and exactly what it is for. There will even be options to retard scientific development, for example. There will be options in that to make magic stronger and more interesting in a plethora of ways. So, for those points I would respectfully ask that you wait and see that product.

And you are right, people (like me) would be less grumpy if we had never had the option in the first place to imbue major schools in that way. So I guess this is the best compromise you can come up with.

But more importantly I think is the fact that it is kinda needlessly hard to tell Multiplayer from Single player in the base CYOA. I have to flick through the pdf quite a bit as it is, and then it's yet another thing to consider which option is for single player or multiplayer. One thing I would like to make mention of is that there is little reason to combine Deity Descended with Multiplayer, i.e.it should be single player only. It would save you a good chunk of text space if you didn't have to explain whether something is single player only or with DD, because honestly no one should be starting a RP with DD, so why even have it as an option? Or maybe have like an extreme easymode multiplayer option where everybody can play DD. But moreover what this allows you is to easily color co-ordinate what is single player or not, e.g. just make single player only options red or what have you. Also this allows you to make DD even more OP (if you want) because it doesn't have to balanced for multiplayer at all. Just a thought.
