What do you guys preffer: massive open games, small compact skirmish and personal games.
>>
>>54619467
Normie games were intentionally left out.
>>
>>54619459
Skirmishes.

Bigger games are okay if it's 2 V 2 for more banter, faster turns as it's not one guy having to move an entire 3/4k list.
You can resolve more stuff simultaneously.

Seperate note, just looked at the FAQs from yesterday. Sooo many entries just because they remembered that storm shields are held in the left hand and all the SW units had them swap the right / gun hand for the storm shield in the index.

Also glad they FAQ'd in that we can take a company ancient. (After I got a primaris ancient as that was the only option I was left with at the time)
>>
>>54619467
What constitutes normal these days? When I stopped playing was when "normal" was 1500pts and a single standard FoC. I heard they tried to move "normal" up to 1750, which is just an awkward number.
>>
Wait shit since konor games are all narrative that means whether you use points or power summoning is free. Shit, that sounds fun.
>>
Put together the Aggressor and Reiver kits this weekend.

Aggressors don't take long to build at all, and weirdly enough the lack of posing isn't really an issue at all; they just look like they're advancing.

Reivers were a little more fiddly and despite basically being 5 marines repeated in a box, they do have an element of pose-ability to them, for example, some of them have alternate arms, and just changing the head facing makes the pose different enough to their twin. They do look really dynamic.

Exactly how fucked am I if I run this:

3 Kataphron Destroyers, Plasma + Phosphor (10)

You have no idea how easy it is to transport a LOW army compared to moving 100 figures. It also makes turns faster. It does have its merits.

What is 70PL in points? Not many people know what PL is valued at.

>>54619575
They cost like the same points and bring similar firepower, a land raider is basically a mini knight.
>>
>>54619572
>it does have its merits
if you go up against an enemy army with nothing but LOW sure or you have some narrative/tournament/custom campaign mission where you have to take out LOW otherwise for any other circumstance ie. normal/pickup game it's a dick move and I'll reject you as a waacfag
>>
>>54619580
I would play against that. Your getting CP so unless your not playing CP either it isn't too strong.
>>
>>54619561
Spamming anything is an eyebrow raiser if you don't want to WAAC.
>>
>>54619599
what about troops? and I mean line troops not conscripts?
>>
>>54619589
That misses the point entirely, all low has less firepower per points than a normal army its hardly waac and if its not a pickup game transport/turn times dont matter
>>
>>54619599
That depends GREATLY on the unit spammed.
Grotz or Orkboy or Psyker Spam? cancer.
Spamming assault marines or fire warriors? funny.
>>
>>54619587
Even if you don't want another HQ I'd still recommend splitting the buggies up for objective grabbing. I'd also switch one boy unit to shooting but that is for flavor, either way is fine. This is greatly improved from last thread.
>>
Are custodians viable at all?
>>
>>54619595
What do you mean land raiders have more fucking firepower and almost as many wounds.
>>
>>54619611
Yes but like paladins, not in great numbers. 5-10 should be more than enough.
>>
>>54619605
>it's hardly waac
it is if I bring an all round list and get fucked by high T units that I struggle to counter as you take out my anti-tank, wounding on a 6 for everything doesn't matter when you always get a 2+ save and I can't put out enough dakka
>>
>>54619621
What about 3x5 with Celestine and a Kinght Acheron?
>>
>>54619626
There damage output is a bit lacking. Maybe drop one for a couple of guard units. This also gives you warm bodies.
>>
>>54619625
2+ save? Is there even a low that has that?
>>
>>54619587
looks a lot like this list:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cqzpec6Sk3A
pretty embarrasing loss against ravenguard. that said, the ork player left his morkanaut unprotected from deepstrikers and you don't want to do that.
>>
>>54619614
they also have a better saving throw
>>
>>54619628
I was serious about asking what the difference between 450 point knight and 400 land raider is.
>>
So I lost my first 1k campaign game since I thought only units of the start-collecting box are allowed. An Imperial knight kicked my ass turn 1. What would be a good starting list for the first mission as black legion player?

>>
>>54619636

Yeah week 2 you can only bring elites, so I'll be footslogging my pyrovores
>>
>>54619646
knights have an invul, can't be trapped in melee and can dish out in melee. landraider can transport dudes and pop smoke.
>>
>>54619634
spartan is the only one I know off the top of my head, perhaps I was wrong about the 2+ saves, however it still seems cancer playing against T8/9 models which you only wounds on a 5/6 while they have over 16 wounds each

>>
>>54619670
My thought was that the armies are growing with each new week by those units.
>>
>>54619693
properly wrapped knights were viable (although far from auto-win)
>>
>>54619561
Ditch the extra 10 man squad of rangers. Galvanic rifles are incredibly disappointing on their own. At the very least put arc rifles on the squad, it's literally a straight upgrade at the cost of 6" of range and since you're playing PL there's no reason not to use special weapons.
>>
>>54619673
>p2w dogshit
>implying knights aren't just as cool as jokaeros

>>54619701

Yep, absolutely agree.
>>
>>54619700

>>
>>54619711

If you actually believe knights were ever p2w then you're simply a bad player / run a terrible army.
>>
>>54619710
The only reason they're in is I wanted to use the spare rifle arms and had some greatcoat torsos and hooded heads from a past project.

I traded my arc rifles for plasma and arquebuses in a bitz trade.

Alrighty then, this has to be easier to follow

>>54619549
I assumed some of them had a point; if I could improve the way I organize the post, I'd get more feedback to improve my army.

I plan to use Strike From the Shadows on the Lt, use Lias ability on the Vets and the Sterns; the Chaplain and the Vanguards come in turn one using their jump packs.

The Vets are there as bodyguards and carrying Storm bolters they're about as efficient as Sterns against MEQ's. Got two squads of Sterns because Lias can infiltrate three units and they're cost-efficient alternatives; more dakka than tacs etc yet less costly compared to Hellblaters.

So strat is basically to alpha strike with fire support from the flyers, Scouts etc.
I'll have 6CP to spend, which will go to Stern stratagems, Hellfire on the scout heavy bolters, fight again in melee etc

Yeah but they cant do objectives and havea third your firepower against non vehicles. Against each other they tear shit apart of course. Seriously their nightmare is cgaos daemons or genestealers. Hell even plasma guns are deadly. Could be that certain armies just lack infantry with high damage or strength though, that would suck. Most low games vs normals ends in low losing unless other player ignored objectives. Try the tactical objectives mode maelstrom I think its called and you should get a more even match. Low are pretty annoying in kill points because you have to table so thats a legit problem.

>>
>>54619733
yeah, as much as i thought. you can however only fire the sternguard stratagem once per turn. also, your CPs probably will dwindle fast. hellfire best near lias and when stationary.

you might want to hold back on the vanguards. drop down the other vets first to clear away the bubblewrap, then drop the plasma pistols in range turn 2.

only issue I see is that against other deepstriking armies you may have more drops and they'll force you to go first. but you can't cover all the bases in 8th ed list-building anyway, there is some degree of rock-paper-scissors to it, even when you run all-comers.

seems overall solid, will probably require some fine-tuning after some games played.

>>
>>54619846
He got the two threads mixed up: >>>54619878
>>
If they only had one or two knights you could almost just ignore it and play objectives. You had a reasonable chance of killing them even with enough plasma weapons. The only way your army would never be able to kill them is if you relied entirely on just piling low Str wounds in melee.
>>
>>54619887

>>
>>54619859

I could switch a Sternguard squad out for some other infantry unit but it has to be non-Cent, -Primaris & -Termie and that's kinda why I chose Sterns too

Also, I could save 1CP by either not giving the Chaplain or the Lt a relic, thoughts?

>>54619910
If you shoot it from the side or back, even with the ion shield you would have gotten a reasonable chance of damaging the knight and even getting an Explodes! result for an extra d3 hullpoints off with just 3 or 4 plasma guns. And this is assuming the heaviest shit in your army is just a couple of plasma guns. Plenty of armies had access to deep striking melta guns and other anti-armor options. You could reasonably kill a lone knight with an average amount of anti-armor in your army.

Knights were decent but other than the Knight Crusader they were mostly just big damage soaks. It only became a "build to counter or die" when they ran pure knights, and really that was GW's fault for letting people do that for some inane reason.

>>54619903
well, the sternguards will die pretty fast as they will become a priority. sternguards are kinda glasscannons. so maybe having a second squad around isnt awful. they provide anti-horde and supplementary anti-vehicle firepower in your list, so whatever you're going for as substitute will have to do that too. the only thing i can think of are grav-devs. gravcannons are anti-horde/anti-elite/anti-tank. personally i run them in droppod with kantor, apo and ancient. 1 c-plasma, 1 extra body, cherub, 3xGC, 1xLC (the single-shot LC benefits more from the signum, cherub, command die re-roll package). but they die as fast as sternguards. whoever you choose, your best survival policy is drop them where they can immediately clear out any threats in their immediate vicinity and where you have some cover.

oh, btw, see if you can't squeeze 1 or 2 stormshields on the veterans, it makes them more durable as well.

lastly, be careful to not deepstrike the footsloggers too far away from the center... they're not very mobile. things to consider when studying the terrain for deepstrike locations.
>>
>>54620006
"Reasonable chance"
Firing 4 plasma guns into the side or rear, you have a 8% chance of getting an explode result.
That's assuming you get your tac squad up to rapid fire range.

Single knights in an army is no problem.
But letting people take entire armies of them, making every single bolter or power sword, or anything that isn't specifically for killing tanks, useless, was OP as fuck.

New to the hobby guys, bought a Space Marine starter set and some Dark Angel veterans on Friday, but in the few threads I've been browsing here everyone seems to shit on Dark Angels.

Are they shit or is it just memes and banter? I love the robes they wear and the angel bits you see on captains and terminators. Dont know how they play really but I dont think we have a codex yet, the store owner said they are a shooty faction with lots of plasma generally which sounded okay but can do well in melee due to having knights or something? Have I goofed?

Only know a little bit about the lore and stuff, but from what I know they sound like my cup of tea, uncaring of the world around them - focused on their own goal but generally are on the Imperiums side.
>>
Black Templar and Ministorum or Grey Knights with Ordo Malleus Inquisition and Tempestus Stormtroopers? I'm also thinking a Knight Acheron would look pretty fluffy with either.

It's mostly banter. DAs have an interesting back story, a cool aesthetic, and a great theme for futuristic space knights. And the mystery around the fallen gives plenty of room to fluff up a successor warband if you want to be creative.

You just need to be prepared to handle the gay banter and accusations of literal autism directed at your primarch.
>>
>>54620224
They're basically normal codex marines but special elite bikers and terminators. So those will always be reasonable choices on fluff if nothing else.
>>
>>54620150
You keep speaking in past tense so I keep thinking you're referring to 7th.

But anyways the discussion is whether or not knights as a unit are "p2w", which they are not.

I'm not sure I'd even call an army of them p2w considering you'll have a lot of trouble playing objectives. It would just not be much fun to play against.

This is Konor News.

Nothing has changed yet again. This is very strange as there was an Imperial advance planned for the last few days following the re-enforcement of the space marines.

Rumour is everyone is stuck playing a miniature wargame, Thunderhammer 80,000.

When this will end, no one knows. And why Chaos has stopped isn't known, but strange cards similar to the Emperor's tarot have been found, branded with the name Tragic: the Garnering. This is obviously fouls sorcery that must have something to do with it.

This was the (late) Konor news at the 86 hour mark.

Depends, taurox is considered a better transport for it's cost, but the chimeras have the special advantage that you can put a ten man squad + characters in it.
What I also like to do with chimeras is put a command squad with officer + special weapon squad with a demo charge and blow shit up

Our librarian makes us harder to deal with in both combat and shooting

We excel at most things really. We have the best terminators and bikers. Our standard marines are also solid as hell. The only real weakness we have is in the dogfighter department, because both of our fliers are more air to surface targeters.

And this is why a lot of people are eternally salty about how good we've been for the past few editions.

>What ranged weapon should i put on a normal dreadnought?

How long is a piece of string? Depends on what role you need it to fill.

Need more anti infantry or a fairly cheap dread? Assault cannon or twin heavy bolter.

If it's venerable a twin lascannon is pretty good. If not, paying 50 points for 2 BS 4+ shots is kinda dubious.

Autocannons aren't a bad flexible weapon that can target most things.

Anyhow just promise me you won't take the plasma cannon, marines have infinitely better plasma platforms.

Marines play pretty similarly to Tempestos to be honest, but with a little less variation in unit type. Unless you go Chaos Marines, of course.

I would suggest popping into a GW store with a fuckhueg wad of our gracious Queen's tender then ask if you can playtest each army. considering the turnover of managers is so insanely high in england (out of the 5? GW stores within 30 mins drive from where i live, only my local one has kept a manager more than a year) I think that is indeed what they do

that being said my local manager has made a killing this year, massive growth got him huge performance pay, plus GW paid staff a big bonus because of them almost tripling thier pre-tax profits this year

>considering the turnover of managers is so insanely high in england
I think it's not just their pay structure but the staff treatment is shit. The hours aren't bad but they are lonely, there's little contact with upper management thus no support for customer grievances and since you have no contact with anyone it's hard to book holiday etc, and you're expected to run an entire shop ALONE.

I've vorked for planty of companies that actually save money by having high staff turnover. The investment for training is low, staff usually start out dedicated and thus make lots of money until the honeymoon peroid wears out and they start to understand the treatment they will receive for the future will be fucking shit, so they leave and the positon is filled by another who will repeat the cycle.

I guess GW feel this is the most effective frontline staff policy they have.

>>
>>54621259

Which is crazy really because a good GW employee is pretty hard to come by. You have to be familiar with pretty much everything they offer and the rules for them, while controlling a shop full of kids every weekend. My local manager is fucking great and I'd hate to see him go. He's the type who you could ask a simple question and get a five minute lore dump and suggestions on how to model things just because he loves the hobby so much. Absolute gem.

>>54621278
None, other than giving the intern at FW a task to see if he's competent at making average bolters for something no one plays
>>

I thought the goal was to bring Perterabo back in an Iron Cage, but Perturabo wasn't even there

Not only that but because Dorn literally marched his chapter to their doom, Perty gained enough of their gene seed to become a Daemon Primarch and became immortal. Dorn could have nuked Perty from orbit but because he was retarded, he made his enemy unkillable now
>>
So on the topic of daemon princes, why isn't kharn one? He has certainly proven his worth and unlike abbadon and huron, he has made no attempt at avoiding this fat.

Sort of. The Khan is supposedly somewhere in the webway.
Russ and Corax were both last seen heading towards the EoT
Dorn is MIA, but since only his hand was found it's theorised he Just As Planned so he could do something else(I was hoping he'd appear from the depths of the palace instead of Rowboat coming back)
>>
>>54621476
Yes, dorn's a stubborn bastard, but somehow alpharius wasn't smart enough to realise that trying to persuade possibly the galaxy's stubbornist motherfucker face-to-face might not be the best course of action.
>>
>>54621512
>Dorn determination to do so had two motivations. First, Dorn of course wanted to continue his crusade against the Traitor Legions and the Iron Warriors in particular. Second, Dorn decided to resolve the Codex Astartes Crisis by accepting the Codex but willed that the entire Imperial Fists Legion would symbolically enter into the pain glove together and emerge ready and willing to reorganize into Chapters.

Both were his goal.
>>
>>54619459

>Why is everything written like some deviantart fanfic.
Wait til you read about the Grey Knights, who despite being utterly incorruptible by nature, slaughter some Sororitas and paint their armour with the blood, to protect themselves from daemonic corruption for some reason....
>>
>>54621497
Only if they lose favor. The primarchs are too precious as assts for even the caprious dark gods to throw away lightly. Plus the major risk initially is spawndom, and if your a princes you've already avoided that fate for the most part.
>>
>>54621557
The God Emperor thing was going even before the heresy.
Mostly getting to the conclusion by logic.

>he is pretty powerful
>he might be a god or at least divine in some way

Then it spiral out of control and we have literal Emperors daemons with Worf's syndrome.
>>
>>54621547

How should I paint chipping on black Marine armour? More specifically, which colour should the underarmour be?

I've done paint chipping on other armour colours using a darkish brown for the underarmour (Dark Flesh/Doombull Brown) black for some shadow contrast and the highlight colour for the edge that catches the light, but I don't figure out what colour I should use for the black chipping.

Any ideas?

Look at what they do for fallen armor- a lighter grey contrast works on the edges, and for chips on panels doing a slightly lighter color than the armor (i.e. if it were black, eshin grey is good) in a thin line than a littler line of like Rhinos hide right beneath it looks solid.

To add a little context, I'm painting Death Company assault marines. I want these fuckers to look seriously weathered and battle-damaged. The highlight scheme for the power armour is dark reaper and then fenris grey. I've already painted Lemartes this way.

It'll look a bit odd if I use dark reaper as the underarmour colour since it'll clash with the highlightr colours, making them look like chips or worse, like I've put odd lightlights all over the model.

I think Doombull Brown looks a bit TOO dark as an underarmour colour, but I can't seem to find the right mix of doombull + lighter colour without it looking weird.

When your FLGS is 90% imperial, the primarus release feels like everyone else. But I guess I might have jumped the gun in saying that because we don't know what xenos are getting - but I'd assume that they'll get something otherwise GW can suck a fat one.
>>
>>54622050
Lolwut?
>>
>>54622182
Yes but they could be X keyword which actually helps them rather then the TS keyword which wouldn't.
>>
>>54622202
What what? Xenos factions have been on top for quite some time now. Maybe just not all of them.
>>
Which do you recommend for starting a new Cult Chaos Legion?

Thousand Sons or Death Guard?
>>
>>54622231
Yes you are correct that is the general gist of what I have been saying.
>>
>>54622217
Oh
Yeah I live in Toronto
Just curious
>>
>>54622223
DA were pretty fucking strong in 7th and its not like SM didn't carve out their own meta being near top tier just by spamming a single fucking weapon
>>
>>54622206
Except that they don't benefit from TSons auras and won't benefit from TSons chapter tactics, warlord traits and relics when the codex comes out.
>>
>>54622245
DG have new releases coming

TSon have a better aesthetic and Magnus if you're a tourney player
>>
>>54622259
I don't care much for Lords of war to be honest. Don't think I'd use either prinarch.
>>
> GW says that there won't be a release for all factions
> Only released for two small factions
>>

>Thinking 10 000 year old relic weapons/weapons forged by demons and mad scientists in literal hell are going to be different from what loyalists get

What do you think this, the FW index book
>>
>>54622245
If you're asking then you really don't have an attachment to either. So Death Guard as they'll be getting their codex first.

>There's also World Eaters and Emperor's Children who will get their Legion Tactics sooner than TS.
>>
>>54622269
GW will probably do something like this
Big release with new kits with 2 codices sandwiched in between the big releases.
>>
>>54622273
GW might put some TS legion rules in the CSM codex, then they can triple-dip TS players with the index, CSM codex, and TS codex.
>just as planned

WHAT TACTICS ARE WE GONNA GET BROS?
>>
Is it possible to use Blood Angels upgrade pack with Primaris Marines? or they are too big for it?
>>
>>54622245
What if, just what if, hear me out here. World Eaters.
>>
>>54622263
I see you have no first hand knowledge of what it's like to live in a clean, peaceful and prosperous city. Shame, kid. I'm sure your "literally where" town isn't full of inbred white trash.

Have a nice life
>>
>>54622297
You can re-roll one roll of 1 to hit with every second unit if they have retreated from a combat with 25% more models but less than 30%
>>
>>54622266
Then you have the ehoice between

>Hoards of Bird-Men led by silent automatons and sorcerers who shoot fire and bullets that sunder armor

>Hoards of zombies led by super-leprosy riddled soldiers and...diseased sorcerers for some reason that spread cancer and aids

Reroll hits a buildings

Ignore -1 on heavy weapons when moving.
>>
>>54622301
Everything but the torsos will work. They have the same head and shoulder pad size.
>>
>>54622335
Ah thats good to know. Too bad no nipple armor
>>
>>54622347
Also the pads wont work with the Dark Imperium simple construction Marines. You need the normal full boxes.
>>
>>54622377
ah I see, gotcha. thanks
>>
>>54622304

My point more being I don't expect that any of the units that appear in both SM and CSM codexes will differ to any great degree.

If the codex drops and there are things like significantly divergent points costs (CSM paying less for power weapons to represent their RIP AND TEAR preference, and to make up for their significantly smaller pool of options), vehicles having powerful unique upgrades (like if they bring back warpflame gargoyles and make them do something like deal a mortal wound on a 6+, or daemonic possession being a port of the hellforged rules), having unique character upgrade options (like the boon table returning but you can pick and choose certain upgrades), daemon weapons being awesome, and letting chosen take some form of veteran skills then I will eat my own shoe.
>>
>>54622123
As a gk/deathwatch player I love all these primaris releases!
>>
>>54622324
>>54622360
It also wouldn't make much sense, given how they like to dig in.
>>
>>54621525
>What the hell happen? Why is everything written like some deviantart fanfic.
GW's old guard buggered off, or was alienated by the management.
What's left over are the fanbois that grew up with the game and cannot help but write literal fan fiction.

If you stopped around 4th don't bother with the new stuff. 5th was ok, but around 6th and later editions the writing really took a nosedive.

You effing negros, it says"Each time the bearer fights, it can make 1 ADDITIONNAL attack with this weapon"

>>
>>54623056
Yeah, thats part of it. They just don't do anything that another weapon couldn't do better.

For anti tank the lascannon beats them, and the missile launcher is more or less on par without risking blowing yourself up. Grav Cannons are better for anti infantry, as are heavy bolters.

Better to specialize.

The diamond mines O.K. at least.

Again, I can't see many situations I'd prefer one over a lascannon short of maybe suicide drop pod squads or something similar.

>>54623746
How sad, multimeltas and plasma cannons were my number one and two choice aesthetically.
