I strongly believe this is where most half elves come from. I also believe that, in rural settings, many half elves had their ears trimmed as a baby to hide the fact that they are halfbloods and that there are more half-elves than expected and leads to the "farmer boy is an exceptionally gifted mage or fighter or some shit like that" trope after a couple generations.

Probably too much male writers writing for a male audience, most want to feel like the MC of a harem anime, surrounded by all kinds of chicks, human or non-human but still fapable that fall in love with him for often no good reason Putting all these good-looking, tall, athletic, mysterious, dreamy elf guys in the story introduce some sudden fierce competetion the average self-insert-fag wouldn't be able to stomach.

Subconsciously, a female looks for the best genes and the best provider.
So she doesn't care if he provides both.
It's like single mothers who get fucked by bad boys and look for a dumb idiotic ass to provide for her progeny.
