Still working on the 2 last empires, so we skip to page 4 for now. After this I'm going to work on body modifications and abilities, which I'm having a hard time working now.

Funny on how I have 30+ units planned and ready but on body mods and abilities I'm struggling to make a coherent skill tree.

This CYOA irritates my historical autism a bit by acting like Islam didn't generally value bridal virginity about as much as Christians at the time did, but it's silly to get worked about about some dues vult CYOA depicting the "Saracens" correctly; that isn't the point.

You're leaving me very conflicted. On one hand you have good taste in empires and manga, but on the other hand your cyoa has mandatory waifus which only a basic bitch would do.

I guess I'll wait for the final version of your cyoa before forming my opinion.
>>
>>54603178
Persia is confirmed, the other last one I originally planned it to be the Holy Roman Empire but I'd diverted it later in the CYOA. I'm leaning in to the meme and planned to make it the Finno-Korean Hyper war but am having trouble adding something to the description.

Oh, and You can also fight Commies and Fascists in this one, at least later on.
>>
>>54603202
What kind of Emperor doesn't have his own Waifu and harem? In any case, well written Waifu CYOAs are my favorite and also inspired me to make this.
>>
>>54603032
These threads are severely allergic to rolling which is sad cause your cyoa is pretty good.
>>
>>54603210
Damm i would suggest the spanish empire because i want to make spain great again but the memes...
>>
>>54603210
Aren't the Finno-Korean Hyperwar nations a little overpowered? They flung shit around to blow up solar systems.
>>
>>54603223
The problem lies in losing personal choice. Waifus are fine but when a cyoa punishes you for not picking a waifu or puts your relationship with your waifu as a success condition, that's bothersome. What if you like none of the waifus? What if you already have a gf? What if you want to find love yourself? What if you don't want a waifu?

I considered the Spanish Empire but it feels too similar when we already have the British established. I decided it'd be better if there's only one option per timeframe.

>>54603272
Don't worry, the Hwan Empire might be powerful but the Finnish still stands a worthy adversary and will remain vigilant and keen on watching the Empire be restored. I mean they won before, they can win again if you don't play your cards right.

Why do you think not picking a waifu means someone will remain celibate forever. Anyway, I won't argue with you on this. I'll just pick the waifu will the least amount of political power and have her killed without raising suspicion. Unless one of the waifus really catches my eye. The killing stuff will be plan B so to say.

That's like being a parent and saying your kids will be a fuckup. It's your Empire and You're partly responsible on how Your successor will conduct themselves.

The Ethiopian Kingdom held on from the mid 1200s to the 1900s, anon. They managed to shield themselves from the Caliphates by controlling the Nile source, and were one of two African countries that avoided being invaded by a European power until the second world war. Haile Selassie was one of the most respected statesmen in the world.

As teachings are passed down from parent to child each successive generation receives more and more diluted and often incomplete versions of the original desired path, not to mention states of mind change, lusts for power, greed, and other negative traits acquired at random will disrupt the path of the empire, eventually leading to poor, undesirable and damaging choices made by the ruler and leading to the eventual downfall of the empire.

All empires are destined to stagnation and decay, death and rebirth is the nature of all things, and those who forget history are doomed to repeat it.

Your CYOA fills me with nothing but hate and despair.

srsly tho,Thanks for defining humanity, it's true as time goes by, even a saint will be corrupted but that's why we have idealists in the world, striving to begin a new, it maybe an endless cycle but there's always hope, just as long as there's like-minded men, if you do your part you can be remembered in history and be change and influence that all rulers desire. Your successors can look back on to your rule, hundreds maybe even thousands of years later as an example of what an Empire could be. If You're that worried transcend humanity and be a transform to a different being that is incorruptible.

The states most impacted by an eruption aren't all that important. Sure, the U.S. would lose superpower status if Yellowstone blows its lid, but the rest of the world will be hurting almost as badly thanks to volcanic winter. And Europe can't unite even under good conditions.

Genetically engineered perfect humans.

I dunno. In the course of my life I've went from anti-EU to pro-EU. The generation now entering adulthood has lived in the EU their whole lives. And with Russia providing military and China economic threat, just like the British once did for the thirteen colonies, the decline of US is actually giving EU members an incentive to continue integration towards a real federation.

Nothing's certain about future, of course, but there's definitely a chance to build EU into a stable, prosperous superpower, possibly even the dominant one.

Global crop growth will take a hit thanks to the change in climate, so the location of farmland isn't too important. And they grow mostly shit there. Wheat and corn. The good stuff comes from more coastal regions

I figure Texas is far enough away to ignore the worst of it. And I'm hardly an expert, but AFAIK the biggest industries in nearby states are farming, lumber, mining, and oil. The first is fucked globally, and the latter three have a decent presence in other areas. I think the biggest issue would be loss of habitation. Mass migration is devastating, just look at Europe.

>>
>>54603867
>Lot's o people don't like being replaced by robots
And indeed, why would anyone want to replace a corruptible body with another one? How about this instead:

Networked AI takes care of everything via Internet of Things. Human minds are uploaded into cyberspace and can interface with the infrastructure when they want to, up to and including remote-controlling robotic bodies (could be a replica of their old one, could be a little girl, could be a spiderbot, could be a spaceship...), or just play in virtual worlds (which could be synchronized to physical-world locations for purposes of interaction) or forums like this. Government is handled by AI programmed to act as a public servant.

Want to visit the Moon colonies? The journey takes about two seconds, depending on bandwidth. Mars? 20 minutes. Asteroid belt? 40. Outer planets? A few hours. Eventually, Earth will be left as a reservation for the increasingly rare people who insist on staying bound to a single corporeal form, while Cyberspace expands to the Solar System and sets it sights on stars beyond.
>>
>>54604137
What i mean is when you posted the first page long ago it kinda implied that there be an empire revival in moder times, but when you posted those other pages it turns out there is actually no revival in the modern times, the closest option to actual revival is Ashes to Ashes and it's in the past. It's your CYOA and you can do it as you like, i am just saying it's just not what it liiked initially.
>>
>>54604183

You're still reviving the old Empire, the means you do so is variable, since there's already existing countries of the long gone Empire You can either choose to infiltrate or take it by force. You'll still hold the culture, principles and attempt to restore the old flame, that's why you get to choose what you want to restore, I don't understand what you guys are referring to or trying to explain.

The historian inside me is in full REEEEEEEEEEEEEE. A Celtic woman in boobplate, without her helmet, breaking ranks, and wielding a gladius against an unseen SPEAR-WIELDING army?

Also, reviving those empires will be difficult to impossible - if it weren't, someone else would've already. They've been chopped up into many different countries, some of them superpowers, and none of those countries are going to give up their independence for free. Moreover, their allies will be PISSED if you just start taking them over, and a fledgeling empire can't compete against the larger world.

How would it work though? A civil war is underway, which cultists are making happen to fulfill an ancient prophecy? You're the schmuck that needs to stop the cult and save the USA. Or is the Illuminati quietly pulling strings to make a union happen? Maybe Puerto Rico became the 51st state and lawmakers only want 50 stars on the flag?

>Hospitaller
A Knight who would prefer to protect and heal rather than maim and kill, he is forced to fight all the same.

>Support
The obvious choice. During sieges he will tend to the sick and wounded in his own camp, after the assault he will tend to all the sick and wounded in the city, and when not doing either he will escort pilgrims.

>Liberate Cities
A grisly task and one he'd rather not be party to, but a Knight cannot shirk away from their duty, so he endeavors to minimize the suffering, regardless of the futility of his task.

>Nobility
The realm of backstabbers and liars, the only use he had for his noble status after gaining it was...
>Landed Estate
Run in such a way that his native peasants never fear their lord, he tries to be fair and just in all things. The estate also hosts a modest way station and hospital for pilgrims, merchants, or any traveler seeking refuge from the road.

>Treasure (x2)
The capital to fund his benevolent eccentricities.

>The Vivacious
Originally saved from a grisly fate after the Crusaders sacked a thriving Saracen trading post, she decided to accompany him after finding her father slain by an unknown hand.

Over time the two have become very close, with the Knight encouraging her to pursue her interests, particularly the intellectual ones, and her aiding him first with his medicine and eventually managing his household when he was elevated to nobility.

Happily married, she manages the Estate while the knight is away at war.

Too bad, I found this bit on 1d4chan and would like to know how correct it is.

Vampire: You're the bad guy. Your friends are also villains.
Werewolf: You're fighting a war, and you're losing.
Mage: You're fighting a war you already lost.
Wraith: You lost, you died, and now you're trying to avoid a fate worse than death.
Changeling: You're fighting a war you already lost and nobody is taking you seriously.
Hunter: You're fighting a war where everyone's bigger than you and trying to kill you.
Mummy: You're immortal... that's it.
Demon: You're fighting a cold war with mixed results.
Orpheus: You're mortal and dying temporarily is part of your job.

I use paint.net for most of my stuff, though its a pain when it comes to text. I use Krita to set up the layout with a grid for box sizes and stuff too. They're both free, so give them a shot. I couldn't make heads nor tails of GIMP myself.

I'm running a dumb fake multiplayer version of beri's genie CYOA series on Reddit. The idea is everyone picks one wish at the same time, and if someone else picks the same wish as you only one of you gets it. There's enough wishes for everyone to get 3, but no more than that, meaning at the end every wish gets taken by someone.

If you want to play, you have to make a reddit account so you can message me your pick. The deadline for the first round is today at 7PM GMT, which is about 6 hours from now. Every round lasts 2 days.

Oh, so you used Paint.net for the editing, and Krita for adding the art in and making the boxes even? Alright, I could probably try something with both then; Most of my problem with default paint is that I'd have to eyeball that stuff. That, and the lack of layers. Thanks anon!

NOTES
-------------------------
This field records your latest roll at its top.

Modified results that would produce a number less than one display as one.

Got a 1 first so I have a Nen-Beast
Aura is Specialization with Survive/Project keywords. My Nen's special ability is that any Nen attack that is used against me that I survive from I can later project myself. So if someone shot me with a nen bullet and I survived it I could later shoot a similar nen bullet at my opponents. A secondary effect is that it makes me naturally resilent to attacks, not godly OP where things do not affect me but enough where I can be severely injured/incapacitated from an attack but never One-Shot into oblivion. Think of it as Blue Magic from Final Fantasy.

Crime Hunter, being able to take down criminal Nen users and "learn" their abilities when they attack me.

I have average potential but a unique ability so I'm going to try the best I can with what I got.

Skills
Defensive Nen 3
Neutral Nen 3
Amount of Aura 2
Stealth 3
Technicity 3
Long Term Thinking 3
Tactics and Improv 3

Pic is my Nen Beast and would have the ability to absorb Nen that I've been previously hit/learned before and convert into energy it can use to improve/heal myself and others.

Can we stipulate in the intro that "you are unable to to use... any _supernatural_ skill you obtained in the world of Hunter x Hunter"? I mean, if I learn to use chopsticks there, can't I still use that here? Well okay, muscle memory could come into play there so I'll give it up. But if I, say, acquire the skill to tell the difference between a backhoe and a bulldozer - wouldn't I still be able to do this in our reality? It's purely a mental, mundane, non-mystical ability. Unless my memory is fucked with somehow.

Skills
>Major: Sharpshooter, stealth, Agility
>Minor: Poisons, disguise, living sword, infiltration, blade in the mist

So my guild specialises in murder in the distance using mild poison for a better effect and stealth.
Island because it's cool and educated so this would look more like an organization.
Price would depend on a target and stranges because cool points, masks are to identify my assassins, but they can choose whatever clothing suits them best.
Rivals are nameless because my assassins can easily shoot them

There are two possible reasons for this, both relatively easily countered.
One is that you are waking up at the wrong part of your dream cycle. If you don't wake up in the middle of a dream, there's a good chance you won't remember the dream, since your brain will just process the memory and shove it into a deep dark pit somewhere, never to be recalled.
The second is that your brain is so used to you disregarding your dreams that it does that anyway, even if you wake in the correct time.
The best way to fix this is to just keep a dream diary. The best way is to get an app on your phone, assuming you have one, and just write down at least a couple lines of what happened and shortly your brain will start remembering your dreams as if they were of import, since you are writing them down.
I can still remember dreams I had years ago like this, the texture on the ground, the lighting, the mood, most everything. Better than things I've experience waking.
>>
>>54608898
you don't have to write them down in detail just jot down a couple notes
>>
>>54608381
I got the one where I'm trapped in an empty apartment with nothing but an electric toothbrush.
It's a lucid one, though, so I just ended up masturbating until I passed out from hunger and thirst and woke up on my couch. I really need to look for a way out again the next time I get that one.

It's just a matter of forcibly forming a habit. Write down signs on your room's door telling you to do X and just try to do it. If you somehow manage to keep at it, it'll become near automatic eventually.

All of mine do. Battle Royal Town is going about as can be expected. Most of my friends are dead, and Alex has betrayed me. I always knew that bastard would stab us in the back. The infection on my arm cleared up, but I'm out of ammo and the shotgun's just a club at this point. Now, surrounded on all sides by those willing to kill to survive, my rag tag group must learn why someone put us all in an artificial dome town with instructions that the air was cut off, and the last twenty left alive would be free to go.
Can we make it? Will people stop ignoring my advice and getting killed? What lengths will the dastardly Alex go to fuck us over? Why can I not wake up when feeling severe pain?

Find out on the next episode of Semi-Lucid Death Game Dream Time!

It's optional, just a way to generate supernatural threats for you to fight.

But you got a 10 on your first roll, so you'd get the "10" option in the first row, the one for a single, powerful villain that works alone. Then you'd roll at least 5 more times on the other rows to finish fleshing out the monster.
>>
>>54609179
>Deadening yourself through pharmaceuticals

To this day I fail to understand why depression is treated with medication that forces apathy on you. If the closest you ever get to happiness anyway is just being emotionally dead, where nothing fucking matters, why in the nine hells do psychologists see THAT as a noble goal worth striving towards, instead of offering one of the many alternatives that would actually make someone feel happy?

Even telling them to grow salvia divinorum and drink tea made from the leaves would do better, since it's a mood booster at that level. Yes, it can be hallucinogenic, that's why it's illegal in some states, but you need heavily processed shit to reach that level. You're not going to start tripping balls on a highly introspective hallucination on what little you'll get from drinking unprocessed leaves used to make tea.

I unironically like rolling in CYOAs if it's somehow connected to the player's choices, e.g. if you made a safer build you have a higher chance of succeding in your roll. Especially when it's done on the last page so if someone dislikes rolling, he can just skip the page.
>>
>>54609606
Sorry, I consider the fucked up ones to be interesting. The occasional ones I do get are difficult to remember, and even more difficult to describe.
Most of my dreams are semi-lucid, where I'm aware of what I'm doing, and everything is perfectly clear, but I don't have any control over it beyond myself. Birds sometimes fly backwards, or I may find shoots of bamboo growing in the middle of otherwise familiar rooms, and very occasionally I'll find tiny little worms crawling on surfaces if I look closely, but normally the only way for me to tell that I'm dreaming if I'm not dropped into an unfamiliar or improbable environment is to try to fly. If I can fly, I'm dreaming, if I can't, then I'm awake.
It really sucks when I have to mow my lawn twice because I didn't realize I was asleep the first time around.

Well, in the life there are some elements you can't choose, like the potential you were born with. I tried to simulate this by a roll of dice.
I know it will not please to everyone but I like to mix this mechanism with the classical system of CYOAs

You need to give more context for people who aren't intimately familiar with HunterxHunter. Hell, I've followed the series for a long time and I had to look up various terms. Expecting people to remember what Nen, Ten, Zetsu, Ren, Hatsu, Gyo, In, En, Shu, Ko, Ken, Ryu, etc. (as well as the finer points of the 6 aura types, limitations/contracts, and nen beasts) off the top of their heads is kind of unrealistic. It's also extremely offputting and confusing for people unfamiliar with the series.

I'm not saying it's no good or not worth it, just that you might want to include a short key that explains these various terms briefly.

>How long does it take to get good enough to create scenarios in your dreams?
A week or two. Pro-tip: say what you want to happen out loud in your dream, it works pretty much always.
> And how the hell do you stop from getting pushed out the dream when you realise it is one?
Try to physically anchor yourself to the dream, this means you need to receive physical sensations from the dream world to make your brain accept it. What I've found effective
>LOOK at your hands, see every contour, shape, line, finger, etc.
At first it'll be blurry and you won't see everything, but really focus on what you are seeing and keep looking and it'll come into focus, like a camera lens.
>grab things, grope them, FEEL them
You can combine this with what I said above. A good way is to rub your hands together before, between and during looking at your hands.
You need to keep doing these every couple minutes or your brain will fall out of the dream. You will feel yourself losing lucidity though, so make sure the instant you start to feel it, you get that physical sensation going on.
For what it's worth, this forum has good information
http://www.dreamviews.com/
>I heard you can spin around or something
No. Spinning around will either change your scenery or wake you up.

The answer to all your questions is pretty much how good you are at keeping yourself calm. If you realize you're dreaming and react with "wtf I'm dreaming!" you'll instantly wake up. Accepting that you're dreaming without getting excited allows you to stay in your dream longer. Later your mind will learn that you don't actually want to wake up, so it won't wake you up as often.

Spinning around will wake you up. Grabbing things or counting your fingers won't wake you up if you do it like it's something normal instead of considering it a key to a magical word.

I quit trying to lucid dream few years ago because I did not like having to remember my dreams, including the bad ones. It's just not worth it, especially when you're so calm in your dream that you know nothing can truly surprise you because you're in full control of your dreams.

A fierce and organized pack of undead comprised of important and beloved priestly figures who pray at a dark and bloody altar. Unfortunately they are superhumanly tough to kill with some sort of secret weakness, some material that can pierce their weakness.

Ah, now this is just the sort of monster I am prepared to fight. Hopefully I can find some details on the specific nature of the threat in my library and eliminate the dark priests from afar one by one. If not, we'll have to rely on the scientific method to identify their weakness. I will assist Alice Ulminster in trapping one of the group and set to work testing various materials and compounds on it.

It's of no interest to me how highly these men are regarded in society, so long as I can keep my name away from their deaths. I work inside the law as often as possible but at times like these it's best to stick to the shadows.

It'll be easier if you narrate things out of view. E.g.
>When I open this door, my waifu will be standing behind it, down to fuck
Then when you open the door, she'll be there.
Don't just indulge yourself with sex though, try to have a discussion with your own subconscious. Say out loud that behind a door there will be the embodiment of your own mind.

Remember when you went back and changed one of the Zodiac Brides waifus? You had to rewrite her, quite a bit. Now, imagine instead of a single page of text you had to rewrite, you had to rewrite a huge bit of her whole route. And now imagine if the poses and backgrounds you have drawn/commissioned are now either useless or stranglehold how far you are actually able to rewrite. Now imagine if this had to happen for multiple routes.

/evn/ was garbage , but it was useful for things like this. Put the horse before the cart and get lots of writing done beforehand, because however much harder making CYOAs was than you thought making with original art is at minimum harder than that.

It's not like not having art prevents you from writing. Actually, even if you get an artist, you want to have a solid foundation first.
Also, your chances of getting someone interested improve. Personally, I wouldn't be completely unwilling (I'd even do it for free, though I'm not some great artist or anything), but I'm definitely hesitant to get involved in a project that has nothing to present yet. Been burned on that end too often.

I sacrificed legibility for a stylized, written font, and after trying dozens, that was the best I could do. This is victorian-type era and that note was written by a rather flamboyant man, so going with a more blocky font was out of the question.

>>54610921
Theme > uninspired, random graphics. The last version was literally thrown together with no reason nor rhyme.

>>54610947
Any more accented, cursive fonts were much less legible, trust me. Keep in mind that the font size there is actually rather large, and I used photoshop to space out the characters more and bolden them.

Then I meant "with," my bad.

>>54611967

>The cursive is hard to read

Both of which I adressed.

The shitty critique, in which I'm referring to in my statement that it's alright to disregard as nothing more than shitposts, are "failed project" or "shit design." Those don't mean anything outside of being insults brought up from subjective tastes.

>>54611994
The problem with your statement is that it doesn't say anything. "Lacklustre execution" doesn't mean anything to me without context. You aren't providing examples of what a good design for this theme is.

>>
>>54612182
I have reference material in which I'm basing it off of, so yes.

Furthermore, it's among the most basic designs you could do. Call it "basic" or "bland", but calling it shit just means you're fishing for responses.
>>
>>54612145
Why are you insisting it look like a textbook? Textbooks are designed to look good, they're designed to be easy to read. Their style should never be used for an artistic endeavor.

>I just think you people just deserve it.
Get a life.
>>
>>54612123
> "Lacklustre execution" doesn't mean anything to me without context.
Oh NOW you're just sincerely trying to elicit constructive criticism, like a professional?

Consider that maybe people were trying to point out your mistake, not tell you how to fix it. That's supposed to come from you, as the creator. "Constructive criticism" doesn't mean "tell me what to do to get better in a way that doesn't hurt my feelings" but rather "accurately describe the problem". It has to be something you can build on, no more and no less; you still have to do the "construction" yourself.
>>
Help!

>>
>>54612123
Should have just gone all the way, imo. That texture in the background just detracts from the textbook feeling. An effect of the yellowing of the pages would have been more fiftting, imo.
>>
>>54612210
>>54612189
Is it wrong to emulate a textbook in this case? Is there a rulebook for what CYOAs must be made to look like? I understand that it looks bland and simple. That's literally the point.

There are a ton of other CYOAs that look even more basic than this, yet they never get complaints. They are fine in their regard, so what's the issue here?

>>54612247
>mistake
...For making it look like a textbook.

I rebuttal by telling you that's the purpose behind my design choices, and you tell me I'm REEing back because I'm not accepting your criticism.

>>54612264
I wanted to avoid parchment or yellowing, but I agree that the texture is a bit out of place; I just felt it was too plain without one. I even put it at 5% opacity.
>>
>>54612207
Choosing the appropriate reference material is a skill, too. Taste and judgement isn't everything, but it's often the difference between getting it right in a happy accident and getting it right by exhaustive drudgery.

Talking as adults and accepting your flaws as a launching point for improving yourself isn't toxic, it's just grown-up behaviour.

They are rounded boxes with diagrams with a predominantly plain background and plain text. I know that my design lacks certain graphics like arrows or original diagrams, but it's otherwise basic and functional.

I don't see how my design is non-functional; it is merely boxes and text with some images. It almost can't get any more legible than that. I don't see what your criticism is and I genuinely want to understand what is so illogical about it all.

Some of it. I didn't get much beyond "the stylized font is a little hard to read" and "the pamphlet is bland" but I don't know where all these "failed design" things are coming from.

Apparently, asking for clarification is a failure on my part.

>>54612716
Noisy is what I think the problem is, but I'm not sure how to make it less noisy.

The only thing I can think about is the text boxes, so would removing those make it more textbook-like? Except that goes against the "it looks too basic" arguments.
