Certain monsters should never really be PC's because becoming a race fit for being a PC, it loses everything that makes it a monster. His Dragon example is very fitting. in my opinion. In D&D they're all about hoarding and living super long, dominating an area. They don't really fit properly into the adventuring life style.Not to mention the issue of most structures being built around humanoids to begin with.

What is it about pathfinder that makes AC so mediocre? Is it just stuff having high base to hit modifiers? Sorry if these are basic bitch questions. This is the only type of game I've tried playing where FULL OFFENSE JUST ZERG STUFF seems to be the most effective strategy. Honestly it kind of pisses me off because I like sustain/defense far more than just trying to blow stuff up really quick. It's not that "Defense" is bad, it's that AC is bad. To-hit bonuses outstrip basic AC very quickly, and the big "fuck you" spells either target touch AC, so armor and shields are worthless, or don't even target AC and instead just make you save or die. Defense like Mirror image, or 50% miss chance are very nice and very effective however.

IMO the thing about Kingmaker is that, maybe moreso than any other AP, the level of quality you get out of it is based on how talented your DM is and how much effort they put in. Considering a lot of people pick up an AP because they think it'll be easier for a beginner and/or less effort than making their own campaign, it will usually turn out horribly. The system is further weighed down by bad subsystems, but a good DM can rip out mass combat and streamline kingdom building.

If you want my advice, I'd say look at your weapon and shield choice.

For shield, is Tower really worth the +2 AC for a permanent -2 to all attacks and -10 ACP? Heavy is overall mechanically better, and also lets you have a better option for weapons (I'll get to that in a bit)

Bastard sword sucks, but at the very least if you want to use it pick up a COWPIS or Cracked Opalescent White Pyramid Ioun Stone. It gives you proficiency with it, and anything you can spend money on instead of feats you should usually do so.

Alternatively, drop the sword. Grab Shield Brace and use a two handed polearm in your main hand while still using a shield. You get -x to attack equal to the ACP of the shield so no towershield but with a mwk Heavy Steel Shield that's a -1 to attack. It's 0 if you go darkwood or mithral. What it gives you is better weapon states and reach.

It's an efficiency thing. You want to get more out of options than you put in. Iron Will on top of a reasonable will save for a character that should just be boosting CHA to get ALL their saves better is inefficient. Stacking AC through the roof gets you diminishing returns, while leaving yourself hugely open to any random fairy with a charm or fear dealio is inefficient.
Basically, don't dump wisdom or con, unless you have a way to make up for it. Reflex is the best one to cut. Constitution is your 'not dying' score. Wisdom is your 'Actually get to do things in the face of save-or-suck' score.

Combat Maneuver builds are actually really hard to pull off, since each individual maneuver requires a feat to use without provoking attacks of opportunity and monster CMD scales insanely fast, meaning even if you do invest in it it will be very difficult to actually use maneuvers if you aren't fighting people.
Something to note is that Dex doesn't have anything to do with movement speed except with respect to initiative count. Unless you're an archer there isn't really any reason to invest in both Str and Dex

Rather than just giving you a yes or no answer, take the Treant as an example. As a CR 8 monster, it is meant to be a moderate challenge for a party of level 8 characters that expects to get into more fights throughout the day than just the treant. It has +17 to hit on its two slam attacks, along with a trample attack and 15 foot reach.
This is not a monster you oppress with high AC. This is a monster that you have to out-dps, and most monsters are similar. Winning by attrition is not viable in pathfinder, which means having high defensive stats is not as important as keeping your offensive potential high

Now remember that a custom magic item of PERMANENT AT-WILL Create Food and Drink would cost 3*5*2000 = 15000 - hardly infeasible for a King, considering a Barmaid has 2000 on her very person. A Custom Magic Item of PERMANENT AT-WILL Create Water costs 1000 - a Barmid can afford two of those with her pocket money.

But even with those spells, you might have water (which can just be gotten from the snow though), making food is a 3rd level spell, and every cast only makes enough for 3 people. I don't see that kind of spellwork supporting a city. Keeping the king and his closest followers sustained, but the city would still be boned.

Where are you getting stats for the barmaid btw? Not saying you're wrong but that sounds insane.

It's command word with no limit, you just say "FEAST!" and the item pops out enough for three people. Bread line have never been easier, just put it somewhere inaccessible near a trolley, then have people who want food say "FEAST!" and the food pops out of nowhere.
