What classic tropes would make a great Final Fantasy Campaign?
Are you prepared to lose around 5 hours of your life?

He literally asked for tropes.

The feel of FFI through FFIV can be reproduced by reading Appendix N, and then running 2e.
4 elemental [X]s
Magical plague, possibly amnesia or coma-causing instead of fatal
Magic should be very difficult or rare OR overly common to the point that it's an everyday commodity.

Acquiring magic power through your possession of certain crystals.

>Chocobos as beasts of burden and mounts, in addition to or instead of horses
>four crystals, or crystals in multiples of four if there's more than one significant location
>travel to one or more moons
>the enemy organization, likely an empire, having four prominent generals
>an honorable, recurring, partly-jokey foe
>a battle on a big bridge (preferably with said recurring foe)
>airships
>the party gets their own airship
>the airship crashes on at least one occasion
>one or more ancient advanced civilizations
I would suggest some monsters, but they stole all their best monsters from D&D.

Will you have a job system? Side quests?

Thats the plan, starting with the basic ones from 1 and then including some of the more advanced / goofier ones the more crystals they get. Probably will be thin on side content. Campaigns don't go well for me when theres too much to do.

Magipunk
Sentient Crystals
Espers
A fucking airship
SOMEONE named Cid
Fun Cid concepts anyone?

Best cid.

I'm honestly quite fond of FFXIV's Cid.

Demon Lords, all day every day.

Final Fantasy always follows the same vague structure.
This structure breaks down into parts
>Ragtag gang of adventurers (who may or may not be the warriors of light)
>Crystals that are the key to saving the world. (Often related to summoning)
>Evil Empire (that often uses Magitech)
>Airships exist, there is a man named Cid who is closely associated with them.
From there, it's all about the specifics
>>54599221
>an honorable, recurring, partly-jokey foe
This works on pretty much every kind of campaign

>Final Fantasy Campaign
Final Fantasy isn't one setting.

Some ideas.
>An ancient utopia that was destroyed, forming many different nations/city states and leaving their magitech around.
>A new empire arising from an ambitious ruler, using rediscovered and reverse engineered magitech.
>Magicite is a crystallized form of magic, often used to power said magitech.
>Other nations include a japanese themed land of ninjas and samurai, a dragon worshipping land with dragoons, a magical land called mysidia with wizards.
>Floating islands.
