>TOH conversion that is the weakest it's ever been
>adventure-centric system
>forced factions (see Lords of Darkness for factions done well)
>Adventurer's League in general
They could be doing such a great job with a little bit of forethought, but they keep picking stupid options

Because they're a business, and people with business degrees who are running the business have no idea what the people who are their customer base are actually like, outside of "market demographic" research.
It's literally the same in every form of entertainment or media ever.

Fucking newfags.

Fucking newfags.

>It's literally the same in every form of entertainment or media ever.it wasn't when gygax was in charge of TSR
>>54570362
That's because Gygax was a grognard and actually played the game he was selling.
>>54570387
You ever wonder how many people in WoTC actually play the games they sell?
>>54570421
Most of them.
There are shitloads of people with business degrees who want to do some business. There are shitloads of people who play nerdy games. The overlap, business people who play nerdy games, are willing to work for WOTC for less money than non-nerdy business people.
This particular problem isn't because they don't play their own game. It's because making games is hard, and you can't please everyone.

>>54570362
And the fact that TSR ended up selling the product shows how well that worked out.
WotC making 5e bland as a bread sandwich doesn't prevent people from adding their own homebrew shit later on. Even some of the big points of entry for new players (Critical Role, The Adventure Zone) use a ton of homebrew items/settings/classes and encourage the new migrants to the hobby to make up their own shit.
Sure, some of it will be crap. Fuck it, most of it will be crap. BUT, that doesn't mean all of it will be crap.

>WotC making 5e bland as a bread sandwich
It's true, but it's also a shame, because I think the ruleset in and of itself blows both 3e and 4e out of the water.
And this is coming from someone who prefers oD&D as an edition.

3 yes, 4th no.
