What's your favourite piece of artwork from 40k?

My n-word. I remember seeing this on the codex years ago, pretty sure the heroic last stand vibe got me into 40k. Also, that servitor with the hammer.
>>54553959
>>54553946
>>54554313
>conflict
>large scale
>garish colours on top of a dark atmosphere
>grim and gritty details
>guns flaring and explosions at the back
>the central figure is solemn and posing for the shot despite being in action
>MY NAME IS HUGE
give me more of this kind of shit

More Adrian Smith coming right up.
>>54555698
>>54555714
One of my favorite things about Smith is that he makes all the different aesthetics of the races feel like they fit in the same universe. Check it.
>>54555698
I bought The Art of Adrian Smith about fourteen years ago. Beautiful book. I have no idea where it is right now but his art pretty much defined 40k for me.

And finally, the GOAT piece of Warhammer 40k art.
Personal favorite of mine.

I need more AoD style Chain-Hands in my SM army.

Well if nothing else that leaves me feeling confident that I could get a gig illustrating for GW

Holy shit. How have I never seen this before. This is fucking awesome.

I don't know why, but I find this so cool to look at

>>54556836
>>54553959
Thought it said "Jewfellow pools."
>>54556797
I liked the story from the old tau codex to that picture. Where they were stupid enough to exchange troops to the dark eldar, or something like that
>>54556836
I did a thing
>>54557280
''Once more The Prophets of Flesh of Urien Rakarth agreed to aid the Tau. Battling the Tyranids alongside Tau Fire Warriors, the Dark Eldar deployed a new weapon: long-limbed Grotesques that moaned in despair as they hacked through the Tyranid horde. After six days of carnage the Tau and insidious creations of Rakarth were victorious. However a terrible suspicion began to dawn. Vid-captures from Tau Drones showed that the Grotesques of Rakarth were of a blue-grey coloration all too familiar to the Tau''.
>>54557437
They would make terribly bad grotesques since tau are weaker than humans.
>>54557466
I always thought that the Daemon Prince's pauldron was his face.
>>54553882
This and that picture of Vostroyans vs Tau from the Apocalypse book (I think).

>>54556325
I play and enjoy Sigmar but the universe and art style are retarded, I like the game because a disabled person could play it and it's great for low effort, quick games but fucking hell, couldn't we just get it as a new ruleset for the old world?
There's so much shit left to explore there, Stormcast could be those Golems the chinese nation has and a the new dwarves can easily be bullshited in along with more trees.
But nah, let's discontinue a setting with so much depth in favour of something that has clearly had 0 effort put into it. So few people give a shit about it's lore we don't even have a proper wiki for it.
I never even played WHFB for anyone who's going to complain about me being some salty grognard, I've got around 4k points of death and a small Freeguild army going so I'm not some kind of AOS hater.
>>54555900
Nope because you aren't the daughter of the art director.
>>54558029

>>54556496
I always loved this piece because it made me feel like they were storming some kind of a trench and it's from the perspective of a defeated warrior inside it, looking up at the ranger and accepting his fate.
>>54556836

You are going to laugh, but this pic, while no my absolute favorite in all of 40k, has always been what I think of whenever imperial guardsmen are mentioned.
>>54559540
Actually, looking at that outside of a preview has shown me to be a fool. Still a nice piece though.
>>54559508

>>54559508

You know I love 40k but one thing that always confuses me is how they fight, specifically how does the imperium or other races if even win battles like this>>54557437. Or how do the priests in >>54556327 even fight, they're all old and they wear no armor.
>>54559703
>they're all old and they wear no armor.
MY FAITH IS MY SHIELD.
>>54553882
>>54559703
Rule of cool. Tactics in 40k is very much fictionalised, very few factions fight realistically. Steel Legion are using WW2 mechanised infantry tactics, Krieg are stuck in the first world war, Mordians are Napoleonic. It doesn't make sense, as long as it looks cool.
>mfw when the most popular pictures of tau involve them being murdered.
God-Emperor I hate those little blue fucks.
>>54559703
Well >>54557437 is obviously an imperial guard position that's just been overrun. They're about to lose badly.
However this >>54556327 is straight up heavy metal excess. If you consider 40k as a crazy 80s parody setting then that's just a regular battle and to hell with common sense.
If you wanna take a more 'realistic' view of 40k then I'd consider it to be an in-universe artwork. The kind of thing you'd see on the wall of an Imprerial Cathedral.
>>54554313

>>54559761
>Tactics in 40k is very much fictionalised, very few factions fight realistically.
The Imperial Guard fight very realistically when you realize they're fighting superhuman alien monsters, literal daemons, and space wizards that hate you purely for existing, and that they fight these threats with a virtually unlimited amount of manpower.
>>54555271
this is a shooped syrian civil war photo. I can't find the original, but it's a bunch of rebels taking cover from a tank iirc

>>54559557
I actually think that's pretty neat anon, Crusade eternally.
Here's mine. This unassuming little piece was the backdrop to the Space Marine codex page in the Final Liberation vidya game way back in the day. I remember reading that page as a 12yo and being reeled into the hobby.
>>54555843
I especially like this one because Adrian Smith also did the original Horus and the Emperor back in the day.
>>54556621
Yep. You can't help but laugh at the irony of some of the modern writers dismissing William King's original work because he IS part of the story. His version of the final conflict was accompanied by this picture. Bill King was Adrian Smith's model for Horus. In a very real way Bill King IS Horus!

I no longer have a 40K art folder, anyone hav that 3rd ed Chaos one of a Raptor talon-tackling a guardsman?
>>54556836
I only now realised how kinda weird it is for Tau suits to have this much exposed ordnance on them. For all its size, it honestly looks like a well placed shot into the missle banks could just make it explode into bits.
>>54566244
>>54566274
I helped that guy identify the artists for each piece
>>54569948
The original tau battlesuits were all one or both of hyper-mobile and hyper-long range. Broadsides sit far back while the Crisis and Stealths play jet-yoyo.
Now we have giant heavy things with the proportions getting wilder and wilder, and getting closer and closer to the enemy.
Beauty and violence in equal measure.
>>54557466

God I hate the maps for AoS.
Honestly? I believe that AoS has a lot of potential as a setting. It's big vast realms stuff makes it a lot more of a sandbox setting rather than just the Old World. But they need NEED better artists. They should also bring back old art from the old rulebooks (as 40k has done with its 8e core book). But the current stuff is garbage.
Here's a fav of mine from RT, I loved the tiger camo and idk why I've yet to actually paint up a marine this way yet.

FUCK. YES.
Either I'm getting old or all this artwork sucks. There is almost nothing interesting about 40K. If they spent two seconds talking about the Imperial culture 40,000 years from now maybe they would have a little more to stand on.
>>54555271
pictures like this make me wish they would slow down on upping the ante with bigger and bigger models, look at that fucking dreadnought from an Eldar model's perspective, it's already terrifying, yet they just keep making the models bigger and bigger.
>>54577354
You are confusing scale of the mini with the scale of the art.
The recent spate of large models was to make a counter to knights as LoW models that were not titan sized and prohibitively expensive. They are army showpieces first and foremost.
>>54565611
Is that a young Inquisitor Drogan?
>>54555271
This image always bothered me because Eldar aspect warriors aren't really the sort to be cowering and shit. They're not space marine tier, but they're graceful and extremely arrogant. They'd never be caught dead covering their head with their hands.
