Aarnyx’s family originates from the so-called Dawn Bearing stroc clans which traditionally inhabited Ziona’s southwestern coast. His capacity for wind arcana was discovered very early in life, and he was quickly put on the path of the warrior. However, his training was not yet complete when the Detritus began to overrun the area and his family fled to Elysian territory. His parents and peers all expected him to continue under the tutelage of local stroc masters, but Aarnyx decided to take up with the battlemages instead. It seems that this decision was motivated by a desire for change, because the young fighter immediately took up the practice of divine magic and even began to delve into the soul-related aspects of the undead school. His burgeoning ties with the Holy Order were seen as particularly unsettling because even though they promote the worship of all Ziona’s blessed divinities, it is hard to deny that the organization is markedly human in composition.

In terms of combat, Aarnyx has taken up the Hunter’s mark in order to best render his duty to the land. Though he retains the heavy armor and flanged mace of his early training, his primary form of offense now consists of a bow and arrows which have been further enchanted to channel his battle magic. He is highly mobile, deadly at range, decently versatile, and very long-wearing for a stroc. Most recently, he has been drafted into Marxiv Shaf’s expeditionary party as a ranged fighter.

I've been kicking around this idea for a few days and would like to gauge y'alls interest.

Basically, it boils down to a CYOA about making someone's life as horrible as possible without having them kill themselves. Probably framed from the point of view of their guardian angel or something; the story isn't set.

The actual mechanics would revolve around choosing negative things to happen to them (death of a relative, eviction, being fired, major illness, false criminal accusation, etc.) and structure them in some sort of gradient so they don't fall immediately into despair. Start out with their dog dying, then they get mugged, then their house burns down, and so on, so they don't turn to drinking right off. Provide minor positive events to brighten their life up in between all of that.

The biggest issue is that the difficulty of the choices. It would rely on the reader having some sort of kindness or empathy, and I don't think that's enough of an impetus for this crowd.

This build is meant to be defensive; I'm really, really, really hard to kill, overall. A great base for traveling dimensions; just because grabbing power won't be *easy* doesn't mean it can't be *done*. The nice thing about the "Sacrifice" option, in particular, is that if I find another form of immortality I can just stop sacrificing people.

The idea, if this help elucidate my point, stems from a paper I read for my psych class last year about how people with depression tends to see positive events as much more positive than those without it.

My first idea for the story is that the reader is the guardian angel or ancestral spirit or something like that to a character in the CYOA. Some sort of entity with a vested attachment to the person to whom all the bad things are happening, hereon known as the target. Perhaps the target has received entirely too much good fortune in their life, so it needs to be balanced out. The reader is tasked with creating a series of negative events that happen to the target for the sake of that balancing.

The explicit goal would be to just have enough suffering that it balances. However, and this is where the kindness comes in, the reader would hopefully seek to be kind to the target. Prevent the target from killing itself, but also provide small positive events in between getting hit by a bus and their sister dying to create a break from the despair. Provide a gradual increase in the despair so that each event doesn't seem as bad as it would be in isolation.

I had another point to make, but I've lost my train of thought.

Taking on heroes directly is stupid. I'm evil, why should I fight fair? I'd much rather let my drones hunt down the heroes in their human forms, then blast them in the back of the skull from a block or two away with a bio-laser.

First, I create a land with Earth-like atmosphere and flora. A town-sized area with a hill of sheer cliff, a forest and grasslands. A manor will carved into the side of that cliff, with a lil pond and waterfall nearby.

Time for companions. Human-like and merely humanoid, both regular sentients living peacefully in the town/village I'll create a bit away from it as well as being my loyal servants and companions tending to me and the manor of mine. You didn't really need to nerf Planeshift. Assuming you aren't able to go to specific, established fictional settings, you aren't going to be able to find power "easily" anyway. If you go to a dimension where magic exists, that does not automatically means you have the innate ability to cast it yourself. That and Undying seem to be outright the best. Sacrifice would be good but it's kinda weak. At the very least 1:1 "life-time" transfer would be much more fair, given there's other drawbacks such as being dependant on finding someone to take life from and then having them secured or willingly participate in the ritual. And unbound isn't exactly immortality, just possession of new body.

Basic self-defense against muggers and other regular folks achieved. Mind hand can be very useufl in daily life, for regular things. Probably will use in cooking and cleaning the most.

I think that is the biggest problem he has. His CYOA on average were good before taking a turn since Eronomicon but even that would be absolutely not an issue. It's the fact he took it personally, shifted the blame on anons and then was completely unprepared for backlash is what led to the whole drama. My drawbacks keep me from going too ham. Although I regret not being able to pick up Flesh Sculptor, I can make more than enough changes by being selective with the base slave and clever with my powers.

I think my first slave would need to be a labor of love. Slow changes to determine the extent of my abilities without drastically changing the person underneath. I took Unaware and Conditioned for a reason. I think my second slave would be the one I keep in the pocket dimension and would serve the opposite purpose, someone I can fully use my powers on just to see how much I can really change someone.

I can make some serious money with alchemy too. Fertility potions, sensitivity balms, the odd mind wipe for the right customer, maybe sell "Induce Fetish" positions to sex shops.

When I'm ready to move on and get a new slave, I can rewrite the memories of the one whom I letting go, give them some happy memories, set them up with a nice life, and hopefully leave them better than how I found them.

The default immortality just grants you a perfectly healthy ageless body, whereas the Immortality boon ensures that you don't die when you're killed.

That's a funny way of saying "unbound"

Undying WILL die. You might not die from age or disease, but at some point you are going to fall down some stairs or something. Then there's the constant, unbearable pain that will probably make you kill yourself. It's literally the worst form of immortality.

Bound is kind of risky. Eventually something is probably going to happen to your phylactery and that's it, but at least you get to stay young and healthy the whole time, and it will probably be millennia before that happens.

Unbound though is the clear winner. Conning a body of some idiot isn't going to be very hard, and you get the added bonus of being able to change things up whenever you want (buy Perfect Form and you won't even have to worry about whether that body is ugly or unfit) Plus you can exit the body and exist as spirit observer any time. You literally cannot be killed with Unbound except by magic that targets spirits, which doesn't apply to any of the spells in the CYOA. I wouldn't worry about living forever if you don't want to though, there ARE ways to die.
