I usually increase my army by increments of 250, so I plan around that and usually plan around what kind of army I want to run and what units are good choices. Previously formations dictated how to build armies but with them gone it's a lot more free choice now.

I just played against a fucking retard tau that had no idea about making a list. He equipped 3 xv8 suits with 3 Pulse blastcannon (kv128 stormsurge weapon) and we had to waste 1 fucking hour teaching him how to equip a suit.

He also tried to use both burst cannon and fusion blaster on his stealth suits. Is it really that hard to fucking read the index and build a list?

Have any of you had experience running a xenos-focused narrative campaign that also makes some sort of sense lore-wise?

We've got some new girl-gamers in the house and they have expressed interest in playing a narrative campaign in the near future.

The current konor summer campaign thing is basically imperium vs chaos focused, so I want our campaign to be focused on xenos. Currently planning on doing an escalation-league type thing, starting at 500 pts and going up 250 every week for as long as its well received.

3/4 of the women play tyranids of some sort, so it will be tyranid focused probably. The problem is the other people in the club play all sorts of different races.

I could do the typical tyranid swarm invades star system, and just do a Tyranid vs All type division. However it would be quite hard to justify chaos fighting alongside greyknights or necrons for example.

Any lore-correct explainations, and/or any good ideas for the backdrop of how to run such a campaign?

Well what are all of the factions in your store, you could organise the game to be a 3 or 4 way game with nids, imperium+friendly xenos (tau/eldar, maybe orks if they've been fluffed as mercenaries))+hostile xenos (crons or orks, not together) and chaos

Daemons turn on Nids because the Nids Shadow in the Warp starts disconnecting them from the Warp and thus their material forms start to disappear, so the Daemons concentrate on the Nids so they remain corporeal and plan to turn on the Space Marines when the Nids are dead.

The Space Marines, meanwhile, turn on the Nids knowing that they're the bigger threat as the Warp Rift could be closed by bombardment in extreme circumstances.

Imperium basically has almost the same numbers as Chaos and Fuck Em Both combined.

If Chaos somehow managed to get almost EVERY SINGLE player from "Fuck Em Both" to take their side, which is already highly unlikely, then they would be very slightly ahead on percentages and somehow need to win at least half of their games total - which isn't going to happen when Space Marines are the only race with a Codex and IG are the best faction in the game. Also Sisters and AdMech are both above average power level.

I basically don't see a way for Imperium to lose.

Both Mephiston and Rockfist are S10. Mephiston was unique in the fact he was, base line, super strong. But Rockfist is now just as strong. Mephiston has no advantage for passing the Black Rage now. Every Chief Librarian is chief cause they're powerful, so they all cast the same numbers in crunch (apart from Chiefs in Forge World which are all different for some fucking reason, internally in FW they're the same but diferent to GW). Anyway, Mephiston wasn't anything special regarding psyker shit, he became Chief because he became super saiyan.

This isn't represented in crunch any more. In a hand to hand no weapon duel, he is the equal of Rockfist. It's like, I dunno, giving steriods to a teenager, yeah it'll make them better than a lot of adults but powerful adults will equal them, so giving steroids to an adult would produce better results. As in, Mephiston wasn't special before he beat the rage and got better. Just like Dante wasn't special before he became CM.

I dunno. Once upon a time Mephiston was special due to being stronger base, able to fly and being sonic fast. He can no longer fly, he isn't sonic fast (as in it isn't relevant) and he's no special pysker.

I dunno. Rockfist used to be S4 and his weapon made him S10. Now he's S5 and goes up to S10 due to x2. While Mephiston is S5 but weapon is S10. I'd have preferred that for Rockfist.

I dunno how much they are, but I really love Stormblades. Alas I think they're FW only as well. Trojans are small resin and their "make a single vehicle re-roll all failed hits" is really useful. But since you have Pask Punisher, not really needed. The other units I like, such as Deathstrikes, are shit in game which is devastating to me.

Infernus isn't that big either. But one of the big Baneblade variants might be nice. If you're not up for that, I'm not sure what.

Some infantry would be nice. Conscripts are cool and all but only fifty isn't going to get you far. Try at least 10 more so you can at least fill out a Battalion with 3 20 man conscript blobs, a company commander (because a platoon commander is just half a company commander for 2/3rds the points, pask, and everything else rides in the elites, fast attack, and heavy support slots.

Consider some mobility: A tempestus Commander with his rod of manliness and a couple scion squads kitted out with plasma. You deep strike the elite platoon all in rapid fire range, order to take aim, and enemy heavy support goes bye-bye. Alternatively, deep strike them on objectives in the mid-game after your enemy is committed.

Another Commissar. Or a single scout squad's divine intervention is going to wipe your precious infantry screen off the map on turn 3.

A Hydra will never do you wrong. Cheap, cover's your AA, eats Tau battlesuits for breakfast, and can even target infantry and light vehicles pretty good.

citadel dry brush has a rectangular profile and stiffer than normal bristles making it very good for drybrushing, but higher on price for what it is.

The citadel shade brush is really just a super big brush, but it is good for applying shade.

Windsor newton makes the best brushes in general, but they also cost the most.

Whatever brand you choose, get yourself a tub of The Masters Brush Cleaner - it cleans and preserves your brushes very well allowing them to last longer. A single tub will last you years and cost about 5 bucks. This stuff is normally intended for use with larger brushes (think traditional fine art with a canvas and 1 inch brushes)

I don't think all paint is equal because pigment quality and density are a thing. However, there are other useable paints that don't have the word "Model" on them that are good. Truthfully, I was worried about my night lord there because of the almost rubbery look and shine to it, however, it finished very well. It actually closely matches Kantor, which is what I need for the Lords.

Sure, but, he's lost uniqueness which I liked. In 7th he was fast Initiative, he had Fleet. He didn't have a ++ (which is now thankfully given, but better). He doesn't have a representation for his speed or the fact he used to be able to fly. Pretty sure all Librarians could cast fly on themselves from BA. Now none of them. Could give him Always Strikes First like Slaanesh daemons have?

It really depends on the Chapter Tactics. I personally hope for +1S on charge and +1A on the charge. Since Khorne Daemons get the as default (charge, charged or heroic intervention). It seems 'fair' if it's only on the charge. But that would make Black Rage bad. So I suspect, at best, BA will get +1S on charge and always hits first.

If it's just +1S or something like that, then it's crap. It's all about extra attacks this edition since no Instant Death. +1S for S4 guys doesn't really help. It has to be S6 to matter and even then it's just 2+ on GEQ. Need S8 to really be a threat. If it was +2S on a charge then with a Power Maul they'd be a threat to MEQ.

Don't use the gel glue. It is thick. Very thick.

citadel primers are very fussy but they work. Other brands can cost less and work better. Be very careful with primer - most modeling primers will be fussy but work well, but many hardware store primers will ruin your model something fierce, though people say certain types of Krylon primer are pretty good.

Never prime when it is hot, cold, dry, humid, or windy.

If you want a perfect prime every time, use an airbrush to apply vallejo's polyurethane primers. They take 24 hours to cure, but it is a super smooth super thin primer that won't crap out.

Not him, but I love Fist's tactics. I always prefer to play on the defensive in RTS's, take the hit then counter attack, especially in Total War. My favourite RL general was Wellington as he was a defensive mastermind who never lost a battle (yet he's never anywhere near the greatest generals of all time, always Caesar or Napoleon). But I don't like the Fist's 'flaw' which is stubborness, I don't like their arrogance or their colour scheme. also, if you are attaching two pieces of plastic, use a plastic welding agent (aka 'plastic glue' even though it isn't really a glue) and not super glue. Super glue will sit in between the parts, while the welding agent melts the two parts together into one part.

i use a shoebox with a layer of foam at the bottom, line up my admech and space marines that are approximetly the same size and then another layer of foam over top, and on top of that i line up smaller minis like my admech vanguard and rangers and other troops that cant fit, i then close the box and tape it closed so that everything stays in place, for my bigger minis (biggest are my kastelans and ironstrider) i simply stuff em in a cylinder and put baggies of this foam shit between minis to insulate them and hold em in place

GW cases have pretty unique foam inserts that are nice if you want it to serve lots of different armies with weird shaped minis using the same insert. You're right it's not ideal for carrying, but it's fine for going from car to shop. If you have to lug it around more like on a bus or metro the other companies with soft bags like that are probably better options.
