I run a lot of ranged terminators and Relic Contemptor Dreadnoughts. The whole army's pretty short ranged, so Raven Guard tactics aren't as useful and I've got Tyberos for re-rolls on the Terminators if I pick Ultras. I think I might go Ultras and see how they go.

What is your unit composition? Transports are essential, and so is utilizing terrain that completely blocks line of sight. Never put stuff out in the open unless you're using it to direct damage from your more valuable units.

In 3rd and 4th I didn't see the value too much of transports and tended to use a lot of long range firepower instead. I didn't have a lot of models then and I would have to add stupid upgrades to reach the 2250 point level the groups usually played at.

in 5th something awful would always happen to my rhinos, stuff would get pinned, or it would explode and a ton of saves would get failed, or things would get shot up after disembarking and wouldn't have critical mass to do anything in the assault.

In 7th my rhinos usually got popped in the alpha strike and my deep strikes would usually not show up until turn 4, if they showed up at all. The games I played had almost no terrain but I didn't want to be a poor sport about it.

I played in a semi-casual local tournament once and got last out of 50 people, even behind a person who dropped out halfway through the tournament.

You're in luck with 8e then. Vehicles can't be popped with a random shot anymore, Rhinos are T7 10W and have 3+ saves. They're 70pts roughly, and are worth every bit of their points. If you have them, I'd run Razorbacks because they have Rhino stats but have a heavy weapon on top. Twin Assault Cannon is probably the best all-rounder weapon. Marines are the toughest they've ever been, thanks to cover giving a +1 to to saves.
Lastly, why don't you just make up some of your own terrain? Your opponents are taking advantage of the open field, just grab some styrofoam and start carving. Whack it on a cork base and drybrush that mother. Run a bunch of lascannons on dreadnoughts and razorbacks, and finally wring some enjoyment out of the game man. You deserve it.

There are two Ultramarine Primaris Chapters that are to be based in Greater Ultramar: Avenging Sons and Praetors of Ultramar.

I love the Intercessors to death. Almost everything about them is perfect with just a bit of gothic flavor added back with extra purity seals and shit from the Grey Knights bitz box.

Hellblasters and Lieutenants, same thing. All the same model pretty much.

The Captain is pretty cool too, although I'm iffy about the Gravis one.

The Librarian I am okay with. Not amazed but not bad either.

The Chaplain is fucking godly. Best Marine model in ages.

Apothecary is a bretty cool guy, I really wanted his kit to come with weird creepy medicae servitors though.

Redemptor is hit and miss. Some good and some bad. I don't hate it. Could be fixed with conversions.

Aggressors have actually grown on me a lot since they were first shown. The box art is really poor angles. They look great in a different view especially with flamers.

Reivers... I dunno. I want to like them, but they need some work. The skulls are too cheesy and fake looking, not detailed like the Chaplains skull, and the skinny shins look retarded. As do the grappling guns. Everything else about them is great.

The Repulsor tank has potential but goddamn do they need to tone it down on the random missiles strapped all over the fucking thing.

The Inceptors though... oh god, the fucking Inceptors. Why, why are they so goddamn hideous. I don't know what it is. The circular jet packs attacked to the back of the head just kill me. The poses are godawful. I can't fucking stand them.

I usually use 10 warriors, yea. Last time was actually 2 squads of 5 with blasters sharing a raider, then my trueborn had 2 blasters and 2 lances (I only own 4 blasters and 4 lances). We don't have an admech here, but at I generally have enough at 1000pts for what I've played against, which is usually rhinos and predators. Admittedly, my Voidraven is really good at putting pain into vehicles because 2d3 blaster shots. I haven't tried the lances yet, but I might do that next. The d6 damage on the lances is very noticeable, and it made a difference on my trueborn.

Now, as for the scourges, just remember that they're going to be 5 T3 models packing heavy AT weapons. They WILL get shot, and they will die, even with a 3+/6++ in cover.

Is playing air cav a dick move for casual games? I like the idea but if no one has fun playing against an alpha strike invested list then why bother?

Question, /tg/: I haven't played 40k in a long time, but with some of GW's newer releases, I have a question: if a box of minis can be built to represent two different army choices, and the differentiation between them lies primarily in weapons and minor aesthetic features (e.g. alternate heads like the Skitarii Vanguard/Ranger box, or alternate haloes in the Electro-Priest box), are you allowed to arm a unit with the weapons of one choice, and give them the aesthetic parts from the other choice?

For instance, could I create a unit of Skitarii Vanguard that has the Vanguard's guns, and the Ranger's hooded heads, rather than the Vanguard's helmeted heads?

All this comes out to 1470 points, all base points value (I've included default wargear). Do I add more stuff, or do I just spend the remaining 530 points on kitting the shit out of them all?

Honestly? No idea. I don't run them. But if I had to figure out how I'd do it I'd at least make sure there's a shitload of terrain and LoS block on the board so that you can actually move around from cover to cover without just fucking dying.

DS-> charge is a gamble for most units anyway; it's going to fail more than 2/3 of the time. It's really only powerful on stuff that has some rule or psychic power that lets you move after the end of the movement phase, and there's not a lot that does that.
