Not much of that in Leviathan other than a really brief bit in Book 3 about a healy creature. Like one paragraph. Mostly it's just cool as shit worldbuilding and creatures, even if the plot gets a bit derailed for a while over a random romance. Still worth a read, and it's three short books.

>>54522839

Is that one of the other web serials by Wildbow? Read Worm, found it mediocre but a good fanfic platform, haven't tried the others.

Details please, can always use some more biopunk inspiration for my Magos Biologis.

Dragon's Dogma.
Disgaea.
Primal Rage.
Touhou.
>>
>>54523948
Dragon's Dogma's setting isn't really anything special by any fantasy rpg standard. It's just a video game with fun mechanics.
Also I'm pretty sure there is a Touhou RPG, but I have no idea if it's actually good or not
>>
>>54524003
>Nothing special.
Anon, had CAPCOM let the game be fully completed, you would've been travelling to the moon to fight elves.
>>
>>54524067
But they didn't. Also I don't remember hearing about Elves, only a PvP area. Still it's a shame that that stuff never made it in, and the only real sequel is an MMO that I can't play in English. It's probably one of my top 5 vidyas
>>
>>54524003
>Also I'm pretty sure there is a Touhou RPG
There is.
>but I have no idea if it's actually good or not
It's unplayable. They just forgot the spell card rules despite them apparently being an important part of the system.

Mine too. The difficulty, especially, just gave you that feeling of slowly going from "utterly forgettable hick fisherman" to "motherfucking badass Arisen, Drakes better swerve" as you progressed in levels.
And the first time Garm showed up in Bitterbutt will always stay with me. Namely the terror I felt when they shrugged off Great Cannon shots, knocked me down, and killed me in two shakes of their heads.

And then I went into Midnight Helix and saw the Condemned Gorecyclops.
And then the Cursed Dragon made its appearance.

And then Strigoi.
>>
>>54524255
I had some notes lying around for a DRYH one-shot set on the moon with a necromorph-like thing going on, once.

Definitley would be best in a system/with a group who were good at bullshitting tech solutions to problems like most the game's weapons.
>>
>>54523606
There was an idea in one of those threads which I really liked with a system in which you would basically buy parts of your character for points, like if you were building an actual Bionicle, with different parts giving you different abilities and bonuses. It sounds perfect for the setting and there apparently even is a system with something like that, on which he wanted to base it.

Y'know, I can see how some of Sanderson's work could feasibly play out as RPGs.

Hell, half his characters feel like someone tried to minmax and then fucked up.

"So I have max ranks in Polearms and Medicine and as a drawback I took Hatred (Nobles). Shouldn't be a problem as long as somebody else can interact with them for me"
>The rest of the party is nobles
"ffffffffFFFFFFFFFFF-"

"How can you not have enough skill points to do a basic defense?"
"I put all my points into Summon(Chalklings), How did you max out all your skills and still have enough points to take the Rithmatist trait"
"...you have to buy the rithmatist trait?"

"I pick up the shardblade. As a surgebinder, that means I should get bonuses for using it, right"
"...roll willpower"
"Does a three pass"
"No. Kal, roll medicine"

Honestly, I would just like to be able to play for a while, and have a GM that is a bit more creative about their "homebrew" settings. Every GM I've had has used some generic D&D setting by altered a few things.

As for specific settings:

-anything wuxia themed (Ideally set in the past. Modern or futuristic wuxia wouldn't be bad, though)

there's an old fanthing on AO3 that was designed to represent what Sburb would actually be like as a game. The glitch faq, I think? It had some neat ideas, and converting them into a TTRPG would make for some weird mechanics, stuff like your role(IE HEIR OF BREATH) having ways you're supposed to 'play' it(this is an in-character role your character has to play), and the better you do at playing that role, the more powerful you are. So if a Witch(obfuscation and guidance through deceit) of Space told people where they needed to go, that'd make them weak. But if they used their space powers to teleport around leaving a trail of breadcrumbs for them to follow with every intention of letting them fail if they failed to follow the breadcrumbs correctly, then they'd get a serious boost, having more power for abilities and abilities used in this way being cheaper.

I want to run a one shot in the world of Keyman. Magic is dangerous and esoteric. Beastmen live alongside humans in a turn of the mid 1900s setting. And suddenly you find that Silver Age superman has been murdered with his limbs torn off and features incinerated.

>Inheritance Cycle (Eragon)
The way magic works in that setting would be an interesting challenge to make into a workable game. Every caster is a weird mix of a sorcerer, truenamer, and psion by default. Plus, magic is literally fueled by the energy of the natural energy of the body that is normally used to do stuff like walking, picking stuff up, kicking or punching stuff, breathing, and moving blood. This means that musclewizards are not only just a thing, but objectively more powerful than other casters and that using too much magic at once can exhaust or even kill you.

There's also the huge power gap between elves and everyone else. It's literally so huge that even novice elf swordsman can easily dispatch the most elite of human or dwarf warriors. They move faster than other races can see, are significantly stronger without even trying to be, and they possess endurance well beyond any human or dwarf. Not that elves need to use mundane weapons to wreck your shit, because literally every single one of them can use magic from a young age, whereas humans who can use magic are uncommon and dwarves that can are even rarer. Besides, they're better at magic than anyone else by default because they're stronger by default and they speak the language of magic as their native tongue.

Of course, even the high powerlevel of the elves is downright outclassed by Dragon Riders. They have a psionic link with their dragons that allows them to tap into the immense energy in the dragon's body to fuel their spells, making even the power of an elf look tiny in comparison. They always receive decades of advanced training in both magic and blade, so they're usually exceptionally skilled in both. Whether the Rider is a human or an elf, they slowly become much faster and stronger than their non-Rider counterparts because of dragon magic. The humans even take on a slightly elven appearance as they age. Which they do very slowly, by the way, because all Riders are immortal.

Wait, I forgot there are actually two other kinds of casters, but they're explored less in the books. There's fuckwits who summon supernatural spirits and bind them to their will to do magic(called sorcerers in-setting), and there's witches and wizards who just have the ability to make magic potions and do vaguely prophetic fortune telling that actually has some nuggets of truth in it.

Sorcerers can accomplish some powerful magic, but every time they perform it they run the risk of being overpowered by the spirits they summon and possessed. Once this happens, their original personality is overwritten permanently, their body is changed and mutated to become more powerful than an elf's, and the spirits take complete control of them until they die. Such creatures are called Shades, and are as powerful as they are fucking evil. So almost no one actually runs the risk of summoning spirits on a regular basis.

Witches and wizards are basically fucking useless outside of healing and making potent poisons.

Gears of War. Humanity on it's last leg facing enemies who can pop up pretty much anywhere. It could be a horror game, a survival game, and exploration setting all in one. The enemies are even human-like enough that you could play as them hunting humans, similar to how Warhammer does their chaos RPG's.

The Injustice setting from DC would be amazing for a superhero/villain rpg with permadeath.

The Witcher. It's pretty much a perfect setting, but the problem is that making it playable would compromise its integrity. There aren't roaming packs of witchers around the world, and magic is so overpowered that spellcasters aren't really playable.

There's more I've thought of before but can't recall.

Now or a lighthearted one! Toy Story could be a super cute RPG.

Behold my birth,
the birth of auriga.
At first, from the void, came the shape,
within that shape, continents rose up from the seas
and within those continents , the regions were created.
and forests, and grasslands
and by hills and mountains that rose up to give my face form,
clouds drew together, rains fell and rivers swelled with water,
and when all was ready and I saw that the world was rich,
and the lands grew wetter or drier as as the rivers carved their way
from beneath the crust of my skin precious ressources thrust up
lesser species as well evolved and ranged across me,
and as they all lived and grew and left their taces,
lastly for my children, i sowed places, where my bounties could easily be reaped
bounties in minerals, in magics, in the wealth of the soil
only then, were my children seeded upon it
and then nothing remained but to wait, and to hope.
So the void became the shape...
...and the shape became the land...
...and the land became rich,...
...and all that is me...
Auriga.

The MMO actually does add quite a bit to the setting, though it's kinda running it's own thing.
The base version is about the hunt for an ancient city of alchemists in order to cure the white dragon's petrification he suffered from fighting the golden dragon, an alchemist who transfigured himself.
You are playing as one of the many Arisen the white dragon created after being wounded to protect himself and the land. Until the plot starts kicking in you're busy defending against an orc invasion that has it's own motives, but on that stuff is little translated info.

The second part is about the infected spirit dragon that spreads an illness throughout it's area and now to ours. There's also finally elves and a weird-ass black knight, but I stopped following the game around then.

He can't be an asshole if he feels that all of it was awesome and justified.
That said, if you base it on the movie where all that shit actually happens, you could probably pull it off using FATE.

Due to the heavy combat focus and the design methodology the creatures of Monster Hunter have more character than most anything in the monster manuals. Yes, they and the fighting is ridiculous, but the rest of the setting can keep up. It's not realistic, but it feels more alive than a world full of random loot piniatas. You're not just fighting monsters, you're hunting them. And that requires understanding them and learning how they live.

Monster Hunter sells the feel of an epic world really well, but the rest you need to fill in yourself. And tabletop RPGs excell at expanding a setting.

Serious question: whats the appeal of bloodborne?

I beat it recently and I feel like I must have missed some plot chain somewhere, because LITERALLY EVERYTHING that happened after the Healing Church was 'this is cool, but why am I here? Wasnt I supposed to be looking for something called paleblood for some reason I was never actually told?"

Im used to being a bit obtuse on the story, I played through Dark Souls and followed those just fine. But Bloodborne really left me feeling like the logic of the setting/events was never gotten into.

Like, why did I go so far out of my way to kill Mergos Wetnurse? Why does that usher in the endgame? I get theres a thing about eldritch godbabies getting born every blood moon, but why does the Wetnurse matter?

a friend of mine made a homebrew homestuck system back in high school.
Unfortunately, the first session was interrupted by two of our friends who had never played a pen and paper game before trying to murder each other right after character creation. After one of them tackled the other to the ground and shot him, the tackler got stabbed in the throat, and using his dying breaths jumbled his finger around in the bullet hole he put in the guy's skull because "you can't revive if your brain is all fucked up dumbass." My friend then decided to end the session, and never use the system again.
He made two other homebrew systems, invited the same people, and pretty much the same thing happened every time. He has never used any of them ever again. I think he gave up GMing and pen and paper games in general after the third attempt.

Part of the appeal is the mystery. There are a hell of a lot of theories on just what went down and why but ultimately it's about not quite understanding what's going on around you and pulling through with a net win under your belt. The armour set you start off with implies that your character was on the run but we don't know why, only that people seek the blood in Yharnam to cure illness but we have no idea for sure why your character went there. There is a wild theory that he and Brador are from the same place as Brador's armor is the foreigners set but with a beast hide over it.

An even wilder theory is that they're both from the fishing hamlet.

Paleblood is a bit of a red herring as it doesn't really matter, not the way red blood does.
Notice that any ayy you kill bleeds a pale whitish substance as does the Doll.

Frankly I just love how much personality everything has, how mysterious it all is and how wild everything can get.

Na he's right. A wetnurse takes care of a baby when the mother is unable to. A midwife just helps birth them. Because this is eldritch bullshit we're talking about the 'wetnurse' is analogous, it's an entity there to keep the infant alive by some means as all eldritch babies die for some reason or other.

Now why that was the end game is kinda super obtuse. Basically the reason you go for that is because either Gherman wanted it to end the beastly plague or the Moon Presence wanted it because lol old one reasons. The reason you, the main character, want it is because in your quest for paleblood, which you find out to be the blood of Great Old Ones (and no we never find out why you want that in the first place) you get press-ganged into the service of the dream by the messengers who identify you as a Hunter(through lol eldritch logic so they could watch you be an awesome Hunter). The dream is run by Gherman, who is owned by the Moon Presence, who is the one that creates the Blood Moon and the Night.

Basically the game is you, the protagonist, getting sidetracked by an incredible amount of bullshit, finding what you were looking for but finding it wasn't what you thought it was, then desperately trying to get out/make things right/accidentally becoming a Great One and ushering in a new age of eldritch bullshit

It's kinda like the Big Lebowski. A lot of things are going on and there are a lot of plot threads tying together but not in a completely linear or intentional way, with a heaping helping of no goddamn explanations.

-Bloodborne and Dark Souls (not to emulate the gameplay because it s impossible to adapt correctly) it would be hard to copy the Way the story happen so I Guess it would be better to pick important part of the lore and make a simple campaign with some sort of hollowing système

-Bordelands, the setting is amazing and was never thoughtfully exploited thanks to Burch, though Tales From the Bordelands had a good story. No Idea how to make a system out of it

-Bioshock for an horror campaign

Damn fun game with a striking aesthetic to it is a lot of the appeal, the transition from gothic to lovecraftian horror was something both unexpected and expertly pulled off too, first stuff is weird, then it gets WEIRD.
In terms of story, the mystery is a large part, and just like Dark Souls, it has an excellent story to dig for. Essentially, you dig around Yharnam looking for paleblood, you don't find any in the cathedral ward, but you do get a vision that points you to Byrgenwerth as the source despite the source having indeed moved to the cathedral ward
So you go to Byrgenwerth and fuck around for a bit, and you find Willem, who tells you to go jump in a lake because it's his dying secret. You do so, decide to attack Rom for no real reason (Rom is completely passive until you hit her, every player individually decides to attack it to see what happens). You kill Rom, who was holding back the Blood Moon, and so the Mensis Ritual begins, and somebody (probably an agent of the Moon Presence) leaves you a note telling you to go kill the baby Old One to save Yharnam. You do that unquestioningly, like a good slave, and the moon presence (who has been the real being giving you instructions the entire time) lets you go. The Moon Presence seems to want to kill off other Great Ones, and it uses nobodies and Hobos as vessels for its will, you were a nobody it chose to give superpowers to kill Old ones, and it's been somewhat manipulating events thus far to push you in that direction. So it cuts its ties with you, or you replace Gherman as its helper, or you kill the Moon Presence and become a new Great One.
That's the bulk of the main plot, but as usual there is tonnes of other lore and plenty of side plots, but they all tie together quite nicely.

Wakfu is one of those shows where the first half is a silly romp through fantasyland that turns 90% of the viewers off, and the second half massively rewards the people who stayed with an actual plot taking stage, and a DAMN good one at that. Characters evolve, villians are fleshed out, stakes are set, and it all comes together in an awesome finale.
Second season kind of turned me off from the outset by immediately retconning a really really important death at the end of season 1
Like, imagine if Kamina came back 4 episodes into the post-timeskip arc of Gurren Lagann, or Ned Stark got resurrected 4 episodes into season 2 of GoT
Second half of first season is fucking great though.

Go with the old setting with magical U.N. existing and generally use old lore since it actually makes shit make sense in context with one another. Never ever show an actual champion in the league except at long distances away from the party.
