I'm no historian, or dietician, but I imagine most climates are not able to support the various fruits and vegetables required to sustain a person without meat all at the same time. Like you can't grow peanuts in the same place you grow fruits.

That being said, most of Asia functions on very little meat. Beef is "rare" or at least expensive in Japan. I imagine that most medieval villages or farmers had a fairly low meat diet compared to what we eat today. More like once every few meals, rather than every meal having meat.

Without debating the value of a vegan lifestyle, the Elves in my setting are more like Bosmer - they're the plains-dwelling steppe barbarians to the North, migratory hunter-gatherers who are more a part of nature than the "civilized" races. There are others who've forgotten, and built great cities and become stagnant stereotypical elves, but the "true" elves are one with the woods.

Restaurant to Another World is about an out of the way but popular western style restaurant in Japan that's closed on Saturday.

That's because the owner solo operates the establishment as its front door appears in multiple places on another world easily attributable to a generic D&D setting.

Travelers, wanderers, and those who happen to find one of these doors get to enjoy the taste of our world.

And, for the Saturday service, he takes on a young destitute Tiefling woman as a waitress when a door manifests a few hours early where she was hold up.

So far the story is about establishing how some new customers have come upon this place, as well as established diners and their history with the current owner/chef and his predacessor.

No. They eat "regular" food except it tastes and looks better than most other cuisine because it's got some magic in it and they got a lot of recipes involving very fresh local ingredients taken from a magic forest. Yeah that's kind of a "Elves are humans but better" kind of thing but that doesn't really matter cause Elves aren't a playable races in my setting. I like keeping them as NPC fae races inhabiting the Seelie and Unseelie Courts so they can stay nice and magical and fantastical. I dislike most fantasy races as playable. I feel it makes it a lot harder to not have them becoming "Humans but [blank]". Human with [fantasy race] blood in their family is fine though.
