What paints are the best for painting minis?
the ones that you don't have
General purpose: P3
Washes: Army Painter
Drybrush paint: GW (yes, it's worth getting; a pot lasts forever)
Metallics: Army Painter
Airbrush primer: Badger Stynylrez
Airbrush (non-primer): Vallejo for darker colors, Badger for lighter colors

I really like Citadel paints, but I hate the pots for the base and layer paints, because I've had a couple pots turn to crud.

Vallejo and GW paints.

I won't lie. I've painted a few miniatures with 50 cent craft paints. Worked out surprisingly well.

Is this even bait? Good stuff you can get at most craft stores:
>Vallejo model color
They're all drab natural tones, but otherwise these rock; smooth, levels well, sometimes you don't even need to thin them.
>Artist's inks
Good for a bunch of things; thin them down for a wash, cut with paint for more vivid colors, use straight for a sort of transparent base coat. Appear expensive, but cheaper than miniature paints by weight.
>Createx airbrush paint
Limited color range, but they're cheap and work well; intended to be thinned. The transparents can be used as a wash in a pinch.

while cheap they lack the pigment of model paints so colours will come out dull or washed out. some colours will require several coats.
I've used them before as a cheap fuck.
But i'll use dedicated model paints now since i prefer the brighter colours and only having to do a couple of coats to get a nice white or yellow.

Never really had that problem with them
I literally just today got a pack of 20 12ml tubes of paint from the pound shop (Dollar store), £6 for 20 tubes compared to GW's £2.70 per pot of the same amount.
As noted above, the pigment isn't up to snuff so needs multiple coats but even accounting for that it is still an order of magnitude cheaper in the end.
Greens, blues, reds i'm finding go on real nice first time, yellow needed three coats.

I use the stuff for terrain a lot; it really varies by brand (and sometimes batch). Delta Ceramcoat tends to be the most consisten that I've seen, Apple Barrel seems to deviate the most.

I really like Americana, but I do buy premium metallics and washes

I've heard the opposite.
Get the GW base set, black and agrax wash from GW, and get the rest from Vallejo and Ap
