So, seeing as fate of konor starts this week, what are you guys running for it? What side are you fighting for, and what's your fluff behind how your army got involved?

Also, who do you all expect to win it over all
>>
>>54498359
Spiky Elves, almost exclusively jetbikes and hellions, Imperium, because fuck Slaanesh in missionary position for the purpose of procreation with the lights off while holding hands.

Anyone else pleasantly surprised with how vigorously GW is shutting down WAAC players?
Quick FAQs
Bantz on their FB
Tourneyfags are no longer writing their articles

Still salty about losing the roster builder though.
>>
>>54498407
I am pleased they're fucking listening.
Now just need a price bump on Guilliman and guard artillery...
>>
>>54498359
Blood ravens, fluffing it as just another act to prove our loyalty after the events of DoW2: retribution. I'll be taking my second company list with some 1st and 10th company support, but that mostly means I'll be bringing more balanced all-arounder list focused a bit more on shooting, since my 2nd company uses UM tactics.
Konor's also gotten me to magnetize all my dudes, and holy hell I wish I had done this earlier. So easy, yet makes getting pure WYSIWYG such an ease

Lewd, even for the Deldar
>>
>>54498421
Remove Girlyman, preferably with something unambiguous.
>>
>>54498438
Not a chance in the world that's happening.
He definitely needs a points increase though, he should definitely be in the 400-500 point range
>>
>>54498455
Definitely agreed, if it oneshots knights it shouldn't cost half as much as one. Not to mention absurd army buffs.
>>
>>54498464
He costs a bit more than half a knight, closer to 2/3rds.
It's great that he plays exactly how a primarch should, but it's also completely ridiculous that he's one the best primarchs out side of magnus (and russ and horus from HH) and also one of the cheapest
>>
>>54498421
Guilliman is uncounterable bullshit. I feel like Guard artillery is something the meta should shift around a little.

BUT if they changed something it should just be to tone down Manticores somehow.
>>
>>54498483
No, because they're are thousands of reasons to explain why that might happen. Maybe everyone but dave ducked down, maybe dave jumped in the way of a bullet to protect his serge or HW guy, maybe your dides just said "fuck dave."
It's a wargame, you have to be able to use your imagination to be able to fill in the gaps between the game's abstractions and the actual fluff

DESU i feel the best explanation is "Dave on the front died, everyone else piled in to fill up the gap"
>>
>>54498495
He's far far far from uncountable.
Orks have tankhammers, GSC have PSGS, marines have null zone, CSM have magnus and infernal gaze, nids have the swarmlord and GS, ad mech have electro-preists.
Most armies have ways of dealing with him, he's just too cheap for what he does, so taking him lut still means you have 1640 points worth of stuff to deal with, and him again
>>

DESU I didn't like having to argue over who's closest everytime my units got shot at.

Depending on how much painting I get done this week and how much of my stuff arrives in the mail:

Kabal of the Black Adder and Storm Hawks Space Marines. The latter is obviously defending Konor, but the former is too if only because if Chaos wins they'll make worse slaves.

Definitely betting on the Imperium to win it all.

I want to turn this into a Slaaneshi dreadnought of sorts. Forgeworld is fine in my playgroup so it will allow me to make it a "Counts-as" for anything in either Chaos Index.

Which does it make more sense as:
Decimator due to the fact that the Decimator is a Daemon?
Leviathan due to scale?
Helbrute because reasons?
Something else?

Also, any tips on the conversion?

Just saw the Dev commentary in the FAQ section.
Characteristics can be modified by abillities, wargear and psychic powers.

If you give Girlyman +1 to his wound characteristic with the warlord trait he RaW loses his character immunity to sniping.

I'm using a Terminator Inquisitor and I was wondering a few things. I was thinking of deepstriking him in with a 10 man Scion squad so they could do some damage and also take bullets for him first. I'm cautiously hopeful about other armies, Kelly does wonders if he likes/understands the army, but if not you get fucked.

I imagine
>bargain-brand SM flavors, grey Knights, CWE, inquisition, death guard, and maybe chaos
Will all get really cool stuff virtually guaranteed.

>DEldar, harlequins, GAC, Tau, orcs, and deathwatch
Will likely get good stuff too, albeit to a lesser degree

>sisters (and ecclesiarchy stuff), Knights, guard, necrons
Will likely get precious little relicy-stuff, though stratagems will likely be a different story (especially guard and crons)

Unaligned traitor legions and Admech and are a total crapshoot, it always seems to come down to if the writers like the faction. So 50% chance badass, 50% floating off into oblivion

the trouble with Admech is the models are selling like hot cakes regardless of how good/bad they perform, so GW isn't giving them the special incentives that, say, primaris are getting. Same deals as Nids effectively- who cares as long as they buy.

But with nu-GW who knows, my fists are sitting happy so fuck all y'all

This would be acceptable from a Khorne warband, who at least love slaughter and revel in it. Those guys have a built in motivation: Raw bloodlust.

While it'd be nice to see Celestine get a couple of high profile victories over some other named characters, pretty much no one should be beating Kharn in a straight fight short of Primarch tier characters. He's supposed to be the best at that kind of thing, no shame jobbing to him.

The real problem is she won't get another book any time soon where they let her get a win in against someone more appropriate.

Alright, Admech player here, I would like to take another look at Rangers;

So, after playing some games in 8th only using Vanguard, I'm starting to feel a little... Iffy on their total superiority to Rangers.

The problems that I have encountered mostly have to do with their lack of range, and how quickly they die. So far, almost every game I've played, my Vanguard die horribly, and quickly. Sure, the Assault 3 is amazing; but its 18" range means that to make the best of it, you need to push up the board. Plus the +6 D2 isn't exactly great against occasionally spamming to death Terminators or light vehicles.

Meanwhile, the ranger's 30" range lets them stay back and safely contribute to the fight without needing to leave cover. The Str 4 gives you better killing power against Guard and Marines, and -1 ap on a six is good as well. I think their almost doubled range makes up for their lack of the additional shots, since you can shoot safely for longer, and with a higher chance to kill.

Nah their motivation is explained (rather briefly) but it boils down to feelings of resentment for being part of the unstable Night Lords legion tasked with one of the worst jobs of the Crusade and led by a father who hated himself, his son and everything in the galaxy.

None of the Night Lords truly believe victory is possible, all they want is to destroy the entire galaxy because they are good at it, they dont know anything else and they only have each other to do it.

You could easily argue these are pretty stupid reasons for 10,000 years of hatred and degeneracy but I would say its at least better than "Chaos made me do it!"

It's less 'Lost to Kharn' and more 'This is literally the only showing she's gotten where she got a duel'. 40k runs a lot on wrestling logic. While there isn't shame losing to the champ, if you don't get ANY wins it's not any good.

I'd like to see her go up against something big and scary. Like a named greater daemon. Something where 'I shit holy power' gives her an advantage but it's still a hell of a fight.

guys I need help.

long story short my dad loves the 40k universe but never plays because he has agoraphobia, and he wants me to start playing since he has so many models he can't do anything with.

I'm interested, it sounds fun, so I'm starting off with some kind of in-store campaign that starts Saturday (it's a big event just can't remember the name).

I'm playing tyranids because I love legion of everblight and eldrazi and they seem **vaguely** similar. So I have that Start Playing set and that's it to work with for now.

my only question is how do I become competitive? I want to win these things. I have background playing many other games competitively so I don't need that rundown, but where's the best place to A. learn the metagame/what's good now, and B. good/optimal/sound strategy?

thanks tg

Kharn kills quote unquote Celestine? Celestine with imperial faith could 1v1 Abandon with chaos powers indefinitely.

>>54499144

The simple fact is that the Emperor never really intended to save all of the Primarchs. He just spent so much of his time making them he figured he'd use up losers like Angron and Curze until he got dispose of them later, otherwise why the fuck is it even necessary to have these two legions? Why on earth would you need Night Lords when you can do speed speed with the White Scars or stealth stealth with the Dark Angels? Why the close combat with World Eaters twhen Blood Angels, Space Wolves and Salamanders are there AND are mentally stable?

The only logical explanation is that the Emperor really doesnt care and does lots of short sighted things for expedience. Unfortunately while this makes him more human, it makes him seem like a complete retard.

Don't.

It's more about the Hobby and Your Dudes.
If you want to win tournaments, you'll be doing what you do in MTG: buying a new $300+ army/deck that relies on the newest broken unit/card that will be needed/out-of-standard in a year.

The only difference with Warhams is you need to take the time to paint and model your guys and not just sleeve some cards.

If you want to be a competitive player, but not necessarily WAAC, Tyranid swarms work well enough.
>>
>>54499174

Short answer: It depends

Long answer: Those who care about running worlds like the Ultramarines have planetary PDFs and administrations. Most chapters own a deathworld and dont bother to do anything except cull recruits or stop a planet devestating invasion.

Azrael did a pretty good job against him in that audio book with the cool art. I mean yes he does come off the worse of the two but considering he suddenly finds himself in a 1v1 vs Kharn the fact he's able to walk away from it after having landed a few decent blows himself is impressive.

You forget the simple fact that the Emperor did not expect the Primarchs would get flung throughout the Galaxy.

He had plans for every single one, and had prefectly mapped their growth and responsibilities. When Chaos stepped in to fuck him, the Emperor had to delay his plans for the Webway portal until he could find Magnus. And he had to maintain a constant presence in the Great Crusade until he found all his sons and could then delegate the work.

Curze was not supposed to be a sadistic killer. He was supposed to become the leader of the Imperial cops. Guilliman was supposed to be a statesman. Sanguinius was supposed to be the poster boy of the Imperium, which is why he was the only primarch who had wings.

Everything that happened to the primarchs and what they became was not of the Emperor's original intent.

Please understand the lore before you comment on it.

Not really. It's never as down to the wire or every inch matters as a game like Infinity.

Just build a list that has a bit of everything: anti-vehicle, anti-horde, anti-character and some stuff to hold objectives. Tailor it to your personal play style or tastes (High mobility, specialist units, hordes, artillery, vehicles, etc.) and you'll have a good time. The most important part is enjoying the army you choose because you'll probably spend more time painting and assembling than actually playing until you get a big enough collection.

Warhammer 40k is also a bit more forgiving now in that you can reroll a lot thanks to command points and what not.

Noob here with no actual experience playing the game. I've struggled for a long time to find a list I'd be willing to spend money on, and I think I've got something put together that sounds fun in terms of fluff, but I have no idea if it's viable. This is mostly cherry-picked units from various books that i want to represent My Dudes. Feedback is appreciated. (I also realize this is all based in 7th edition rules and doesn't work in 8th, but I'll cross that bridge when I get to it.)

HQ: the Legate Commander (upgraded to Lord Marshall) from the HH Solar Auxilia would make for a great Rogue Trader, equipped with an Archeotech laspistol.

Troops: to keep this simple, let's say I just wanted to put IG veterans (with carapace) into Valkyies to try and represent a modern-day Air Assault unit.

Elites: the Medicae detachment from the Solar Auxilia, so that each Troops unit has a medic and grants Feel No Pain

Fast Attack 1: Tauros Venators with lascannons, sky talon transports.
Fast Attack 2: Vulture gunships, either with punisher gatling cannons or tons of rocket pods.

Heavy Support: Thunderbolt fighters.

I want to fluff this as a high-tech group of Rogue Trader house troops, with the primary mechanic being that everything has to be able to fit in a flying transport because the Rogue Trader will be moving from planet to planet all the time.
>>

For Tyranids?
Hordes. Big hordes attacking the right target, supported by just a few big monsters.

Use distraction units that look big and scary but actually are really cheap to make your opponent shoot the cheap scary things instead of your important targets.

If you only got the Start collecting set then that means you have the hive Tyrant, 3 warriors and 10 gargoyles, if you wanna be competitive then you have to have a bit more than that.

Hormagaunts and Termagaunts or more gargoyles make for a decent start, Hive guards to deal with vehicles and monsters at range, and a few bigger monsters like the Haruspex, Tyrranofex or what you would like.

A general good advice is this:
Use ripper swarms.
They are cheap, come in addition to other models in many boxes, have a lot of wounds and did I mention they are cheap?

They aren't going to inflict any damage to speak off, but they will burrow up wherever you need them on the field, deny deep striking area, soak up wounds or just stay in front of your important units and shield them from assault and force the opponent to put shots into them.
Small squads usually work the best, and they are troops so it is usually easy to fit them in.
Take Sky slasher swarms if you want fast flying objective takers.

Again, Carnifexes make for nice distractions that soak up shooting and looks big and scary.

If you want a unit that flanks your enemy and also deals damage (unlike ripper swarms) then Raveners are a nice choice.

Many tyranid units gets stronger if their unit number beyond a certain threshhold, which means big squads is a good idea.

Deathspitters with slimer maggots and monstrous rending claws is a decent set up for a close combat Hive Tyrant, with a cannon instead for someone that stays back, but your Hive Tyrand is a boss, it should be up smacking people.

How can a display model be imperfect?

EASY!

Know who assembles and paints the store demo models? That's right, the store manager.

With all the shit we have to contend with on a daily basis, we have to assemble the demo models and paint them according to a plan devised by GW, so each store's models will have a uniform appearance.

We don't get a lot of pre-painted stuff from the studio or 'Eavy Metal crew, contrary to popular belief.

Hellblasters are a good support choice, and more DC is always fine.
>Are terminators worth it?
Yes, most definitely. They're probably in the best spot they've been in quite a long time. They're really durable, esspecially with TH+SS, they are much much easier to get into combat now that the land raider is a monster of a transport and charge from deep strike is a thing, and most importantly they will do damage in close combat if they get in. This means that you're opponent is going to have to focus on taking them down early on, meaning they waste a lot of firepower that can be used elsewhere, or deal with the consquences.
>Should they be shooty or choppy? I guess if I'm going crudader/redeemer LR then they would best be choppy since the LR can cover a lot of ground and dish out a lot of dakka.

The Wyvern, maybe, but it's 4ft range ensures that you can't just park it in the back of your deployment outside of lascannon range. The rest of the artillery got punished pretty hard when large blasts became d6 shots.

I get the hatred for parking lot armies, but any more shitting on guard vehicles will basically make infantry spam the only real tactic.

Old Stormboyz, not the word storm here is no accident, wore stahlhelm like helmets and loved marching in unison and generally being super disciplined and militaristic. This was seen as rebellious behavior particular to a few young orks. Most grew out of it eventually.

Made by the same guys who did the pretty decent actually Bionicle movies. And as someone who hated Bionicle even I appreciate the quality of the films they made.
The UM looks like it was made on a shoestring budget. Which is sad since they even had John Hurt amongst other well known actors in it.

But since GW didn't back the film financially the result is a dud.

A proper movie or something like that would have been a marketing goldmine. How could you convince someone more easily that the nerdy thing you are into is actually set in a cool world than showing them a cool movie?

The Wyvern is outperformed by Mortar HWT, it is tougher though. The basilisk and manticore do pretty well, maybe +10/30 points respectively, russes need a points decrease and devildogs (melta hellhound) need some thought put back into them (it does same amount of damage to a russ as a hellhound if it moved, and its job is supposed to be taking on heavy vehicles while the hellhound burns infantry). Chimeras also need a bit of playing around with so Tauroxes aren't just better. But there's not many terrible guard vehicles, the deathstrike, devildog and some of the russ variants (vanquisher, eradicator, executioner) are the only ones that you'd never take atm.

Have a 75PL campaign game coming up against guard. No idea what he's taking, but we're playing Bunker Assault. What do you guys think of my list?

Dark Eldar Battalion
75PL 6CP

Succubus w/Glaive and Impailer
Venom w/Dual Splinter Cannon

Kabalite x10 w/Blaster and Lance
Raider w/Lance

Kabalite x10 w/Blaster and Lance
Raider w/Lance

Wyches x10 w/Razor Flails x3 and Power Sword
Raider w/Disintegrator

Bloodbrides x10 w/Hydra Gauntlets x3 and Power Sword
Raider w/Disintegrator

Scourges x5 w/Blaster x2 and Lance x2

Voidraven w/Scythe and Missiles

The wyches are going likely going to get +1T in hopes of bogging down a potential conscript blob while the bride's will likely be getting +1S. However, if I need to bring down Bunkers, they might get +1A instead and just hope to burn them down with the Sappers rule. I really wanted to include 10-20 Hellions, but idk if it's worth the cut. Maybe if they had the inescapable rule, which they fucking should have.

Hi guys, need some strategical advice.

Played a 1500pts match against Dark Angel Primaris Marines with my Tyranids.

He had about 3 of the Plasma Primaris squads, 3 standard ones, three or four characters, an Apothecary , a Whirlwind and a Predator with 4 lascannons.

I had a Flyrant, OOE, a Carnifex, 3 Warrior squads for synapse, one Hive Guard squad, Exocrine and a Trygon with 30 Termagants (15 with Devourers).

His characters were just insane. Every time a model died he could shoot with it, so they just killed my advancing Carnifexes in the first two turns and my Trygon couldn't do much else.

What is a Tyranid player supposed to do against models shooting plasma when they die, having a 4++ (so my own Exocrine was basically useless), and rerolling hit or wound rolls?

Would a Baneblade or a shooty Knight fit better? I'm worried that if my army goes up against a swarm army with anything big, or an elite army with anything big, I will just get bogged down by other small units, or I will get raped by the big thing.

Looks good, but

>Scourges x5 w/Blaster x2 and Lance x2

I'd go all in with either Blasters or Lances, no sense splitting the difference. Either set them up somewhere hard to reach and snipe with lances or zoom around with Blasters (and likely die quickly, but hopefully not before blowing up something important)

A Sslyth or two to keep the Archon company and fill up the Venom would be good too, but not sure what you'd trim to get it; could perhaps drop 5 Kabalites and the Venom and have the HQs in one of the Raiders.

Two things: Psyching and Mortal Wounds from Biovores. No lie, a Maleceptor might actually do you some good here. Also, replace warriors with Malanthropes and consider using Genestealers. An opponent can't shoot you if you're ripping his arms off.

>implying that's all the problems with master of mankind
Someone post the screncap, I seem to have lost it
>>
>>54500483

The thing is that I only own 4 blasters and 4 Lances (they're all magnetized), which is a bit of a pain, and since we're doing PL, it's 100% WYSIWYG. Also in PL, 5 Kabalites are 3PL and 10 is 5, so going with 10 and Blaster/Lance is much more efficient than 5x2 with blasters, which is kind of the opposite in points.

Splitting up the lances isn't that big of a deal, really because it spreads around target priority, and since I'm fighting IG, 36" range won't be out ranging anything threatening anyway.

I thought about squeezing in some court stuff, but I don't actually own any. Worst yet, I don't know if I have anything lying around that I could convert into anything, either. I could maybe use some pink horror bits for the sslyth, but the tail is another story.

Suffering.

Anyone recommend a book that is even slightly sympathetic? I've read most of Skitarius and the Priests of Mars trilogy, read Mechanicum from HH which is probably the closest to a 'good' AdMech, except all the good ones are dead by the end of it.

Kinda want to find some supporting fluff for the Adeptus Mechanicus Lite (Now with 40% less soulless evil) head-canon I've retreated into for My Dudes. Not expecting them to be selfless heroes like the Astartes or HFY like the guard, just a society where the two choices are 'brain damaged cyborg slave who lives in constant agony' or 'merciless techno-oppressor'.

That's why recasters exist, my friend. You can't generally tell the difference between FW and Recasts one you're done doing cleanup because FW fucks up worse than recasters a lot of the time and the recasters produce higher quality products than them. Can't help you on not finding the Pantaloonpurloiners and Biovores more appealing aside from recommending that you do conversions. Also, Maleceptor is pretty decent sounding from what I gathered about your situation. It's as tough as a Carnifex, has more wounds than one, and that invuln save combined with Catalyst would actually go a long way to making your opponent waste his time on trying to take it down alongside being able to just start AoEing people with your brain blast. Speaking of Carnifexes, use Stonecrushers over normal ones. You won't regret it.

My Magos' Thallax are transplanted into less weaponized chassis in between deployments, ones that don't torture them, so they can interact with their friends and families, albeit in a clunky bipedal robot form with a blank black visor hiding their skull.

Combat-chassis still causes them agony and knocks years of their life but they don't have to endure it for the rest of their lives/until their sanity breaks without end and are kept sedated when not active during their combat deployments.

Magos gets a longer operational lifespan and shock-troops with a degree of sane decision makng and can recruit veteran Skitarii whose dedicated exceeds a random menial whose only qualification is an unusually strong determination to survive being turned into a tortured brain in a jar.

Manticore is pretty good. However, even 2d6 shots per turn means, on average
>7 shots
>3.5 hits
>against T5 or less: 2.9 wounds, 5.8 damage
>against T6+: 2.3 wounds, 4.6 damage
Assuming no cover and a 3+ save, that's going to be
3.9 damage and 3.0 damage respectively. That 3.9 may only kill two MEQ's. Doing like 30-60 pts worth of damage per turn isn't too ridiculous for a 132 pt vehicle.

4 turns of that barely exceeds the point cost unless the targets are absolutely perfect and absolutely nothing engages the vehicle in combat. The only time it could kill double or triple its point cost is if you take a whole bunch of hyper-expensive units that, for some reason, have shitty saves. It would probably do well at popping transports with 2-3 of them, but an equivalent number of lascannons can do the same.

Though I suppose using Guard's endless CP to reroll that 2d6 every turn could also skew things.

So wait, Thallax do have partial emotions? I thought they were like Kataphron, or Tech Thralls.

Most miffed about the Primaris Lieutenant with the Auto Bolt Rifle being unable to take Primarch's Wrath desu
>>
>>54501004
Yep, imo the Tau have one of the better SC boxes, with everything but the redundant Ethereals being useful. Basically, buy two and a Commander and you're good to go.

Iron Fathers for 40K (as opposed to just the Horus Heresy). Even if it's just Kardan Stronos. Fuck's sake, Iron Hands are the only first founding chapter with no Unique Characters.
>>

Since they're adding characters from the games, I'd like to see Eliphas and Sindri Myr get models.

What do you think about Manticores in a Genestealer Cult army?

I keep debating between that and just heavy weapon teams. Speaking of which, is there ANY reason to take a missile launcher now in HWTs?
>>
>>54499557
I think russians did a better job.

I wonder if they're going to add in the characters from Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine. Like Captain Titus. It would allow FW/GW to add characters for a lot of armies. There's 2 possible inquisitors in the game, a Lieutenant that could be a guard HQ, and a few different Orks/Chaos characters.

I prefer the FW one in everything but the head. I would try and put a helmet on that stupid face ASAP.

I just hope the FW one is his DoW3 size to make it stand out.

Flexibility. The krak missile is as good as a lascannon against all but T8. It also provides versatility if there is no armor within range or you really need to take care of an infantry threat.

Not to mention, frag missile + lasgun makes for a decent overwatch with 3 heavy weapons teams.

>The krak missile is as good as a lascannon against all but T8.
You forget that although very rare, T9 exists too. And Lascannon has ap-3, Krak Missile has ap-2
>>
>>54501990
You are correct. Still, despite having an identical point cost, I think the missile launcher is a decent option.

It's also really easy to make missile launcher HW teams by just using the arm bits on some extra standing cadian models.
>>
>>54502046
All true. The versatility it gives more than makes it a match for Lascannon.

Aren't Genestealer cults restricted to LR and sentinels? I have no idea what the meta is like for genestealer cults, but I would try to leverage their fun and unique aspects. Take some goliaths and try to cover weaknesses with tyranid units in a separate detachment.

YFW the chadmarines are labled heterical and an abomination from twisting the emperor's pure work.

Nah, you can take AM detachments now. So I have full access to all of imperial guard pretty much.

I don't have the book in front of me but doesn't Lascannons do D6 damage vs. a Missile Launcher at D3 damage?
>>
>>54502391
In that case, it'd work great. It's a cool looking model, and it has the potential to be kick-ass with the relevant genestealer cult branding and conversions.

Missile launcher does D6 for the krak and 1 for the frag. You might be thinking of the krak grenade from the grenade launcher.
>>
>>54502472
Right on, thanks anon!

They look solid on paper at least.
>>
>>54502391

Krak missile is D6 damage

It's 1 less strength and 1 less AP than lascannon

We'll the Baneblade series and Titanicus series are both good at portraying the Admech as cyborgs with emotion, but neither are necessarily Admech-centric.

Titanicus has a hilarious exchange where an Admech planet comes under attack. Two Magi are immediately eager to help but can't do anything until their master approves. They spend half that chapter talking about how they MUST help their comrade and are wondering why the Arch Magos won't let them leave, only for said Arch Magos to say something along the lines of "Pipe down you whippersnappers! Damn youngn's under a hundred years old hollerin' and rushin' about like they got no time to spare. Of course we're gunna help, now stop with your complaining and turn the ship around."
