GURPS, characters are all police or detectives/forensics people. We have been rolling over local gangs outside of the law since the city government is super corrupt and in bed with criminals. We then take the spoils and use them to upgrade our department in secret, and buy over support from the citizens.

The mayor and DA are both the BBEGs in this case, and we have a running meter of how suspicious they are of our characters.

Currently playing OotA with 5 other guys. 2 players are audience players (no RP or input unless forced) and the other two have developed madness and are best buddies of bad ideas. I've been forced into a "voice of reason" role and I fucking hate it. I'm constantly grinding the season to halt to stop them from loudly kicking down the door of a known thug lair or offending the fucking deep king, so I'll try to actually develop a plan of action in game. Ofcourse they will RP like assholes slowing the progress even further down and then they'll back each other up leaving me as the lone voice of reason because the two audience player will never back me up unless I seriously force them and at that time I'm slowing things down even further.

Breaking the rules of the thread here to post a pic related to the character. They're a changeling Ozodrin specced to be the frontline fighter/bodyguard of the party. Born from a ritual in which a cult offered up their High Priestess to their god (Elder Evil, Not!Shub-Niggurath of the setting) in order to kill off a former cultist that was causing trouble for the cult and their reputation in the region. Trained to be a Fire-and-Forget Eldritch Missile, the cultist was part of the party (GMNPC) and he was seriously annoying them all when my character ambushed him in a flash of inky black insanity wrapped up in the body of a young elven girl. After the body was disposed of and they stopped attacking the assailant, they were all ambushed by a shit ton of goblins and the party adopted the now homeless, goal-less, worthless, and practically starving eldritch shapeshifter as a party mascot and attack dog.

The really sad thing is, we'd met the cult three times before and each time they'd used some form of oustider or aberration to try and kill us. It was only after we found the cleric's "holy symbol" that we realized why. Two sessions later my character died from "mysterious circumstances" that totally wasn't paralytic poison combined with suffocation in the night with multiple failed checks on my character's part after the cleric saw me find the symbol. I asked the DM for a good character concept that would fit the setting and story and he told me "Ozodrin, connected to the cult." I didn't realize why he said that until a few sessions later he accidentally opened his browser history.
