You don't need miniatures, you can print your own tokens. There's any number of token packs downloadable from the internet if you look around a bit.

If you mean you don't like grid tactics... what do you like? I assume you want to use Kingmaker's mechanics.

Iron Claw is a good system that has all the die other than d20, no hit points etc. I run it with turning the furrys into ghost spirit animal guides.

OSR stuff in general seems pretty suited to a hexcrawling domain-building campaign, but I'll agree that ACKS is probably the best choice for that.

If you don't want the excess of rules you could probably slim down to, what, B/X? That should cover most you need.
