Played a game with the special modifier of pic related.

Had a melee weapon only Knight carve its way through my Necrons and my opponents Ork Dred Mob. It waded through and killed a deff dread, 9 boyz, and took half the wounds off of a Gorkanaut and killed my entire squad of Triarch Praetorians, one of my lords, and stepped on my Triarch Stalker before it finally died to a combined volley from 2 Grotzookaz and melee rape from my Lychguard.

It was fun trying to decide if I needed to gun down the orkz or drive back the Knight that was threatening my Warrior formation.

It had its own unique phase, we rolled a scatter dice and 1d6 for its movement. If we rolled the direct hit it stayed but gained an extra attack for the next time it fought. And if it was in charging range we rolled 1d3 on a result of 1 it charged the nearest unit on a result of 2 it charged the nearest unit of the player that lost a roll off and on a result of 3 it charged the other players closest unit, not the closest one to its current position. Finally we let it move the highest number on the charge roll towards where it was going to charge anyway.

It was a great addition to an already fun game and I will definitely start suggesting it for games in the future

Salamanders thematically protect and assist baseline humans.

Raptors forward units take command of local military assets for maximum utility.

Mentors are basically a chapter of Creeds, and amplify local forces combat effectiveness by providing STRATEGERY where needed.

Warbringers and Raptors both employ camoflauge and look cool with guard units

Ultramarines keep their own private armies and fleets of baseline humans to supplement their own forces.

They're just being incredibly shitty about restocking, but it is happening. My guess is they're monopolizing most of the production time for the new 8th Ed. Stuff that is selling in volume right now.

GW has been really behind on production.
They lost a lot of staff in that area a few months ago, and with increased demand from 8th, they've been very behind in getting product to distributors. We're only getting about 40% or so of the stuff we order.
It's a global problem afaik, and some products we haven't been able to get any stock of in over 2 months.

I think Necrons are fun to play in 8th. The new reanimation is pretty cool, albeit worse than it's cancerous incarnation in 7th.

But are Necrons still good in 8th?
I ask because I have yet to play a 1500-2000 point match and people here keep saying that they suck now.

Given how wound allocations works now doesn't that mean it'd be best to give all the sweet as gear to a handful of dudes, keep a bunch of guys as cheap as possible to test on their armor value, and a couple guys with invul saves to eat big guns?

Or put another way, why would you take thunder hammer + storm shield on the same guy if you had a choice to put a thunder hammer on one guy and a storm shield on another

im confus
>>
>>54471741

I don't work for GW, that's just what they told me when I asked why we haven't been able to get a single Imperial Knight since May.
Also have been almost totally unable to get any Orks at all recently.
Lots of them are showing up as in stock on their website when last I checked, so hopefully they'll be shipping some to distributors soon.
>>
>>54471440
How is this remotely balanced or correct?

In other news, building my own custom Commissars because these command squad and vehicle accessory sprues cost damn well enough so I may as well use them. Tell me guardsmen, have you found it more useful to have a boltgun for long-range fire contribution, or would it be better to have a pistol so he can shoot into the melee? I'm leaning towards the former.

Hey Guys I'm new to the hobby and recently bought and painted the Battle of Vedros starter set and found myself really drawn to the space marines as a faction.
Currently I own 1 Dreadnought
4 Space Marines
A Space Marine Seargent
A Captain
And a terminator
Currently I have just painted them the standard blue as I am not very aware of the lore apart from the set up to the universe with the Emperor and the Horus Heresy.
Anyway What I wanted to ask is there any recommendations as to what I should add to my army if I wish to play the game as of the latest edition?
Also what are some fun space marine chapters?

but the fact that it only hits on a 4+ in its optimal condition is somewhat of a moodkiller.

Is it still worth the 45 point difference from a Nightscythe which can let you field Lychguards?

Considering the enemy doesn't get a single chance to reduce your numbers before the charge; I'd say a >50% chance of achieving the unit's job is somewhat acceptable.

If the charge were to be too reliable, you'd see armies literally only existing to be deepstriked into melee to the anguish of the Ranged player.

If the charge were too unreliable, nobody would play melee.

Not that great, actually. The Ork players brought a ton of fightabommaz, and they all had a lot of big shootas that just chewed through its structure points. Back in 7th those missiles are one shot only, so I fired all 8 at a single battlewagon and failed to outright kill it.

Cool fluffy unit but not very effetive in 7th. In 8th according to present rules those missiles never run out, though, which completely changes everything. You can also fire all its turrets freely at anything now, so those twin-linked assault cannons actually do stuff.

tl;dr not very good in 7th, jury's out in 8th

They can take a special and heavy weapon in a 10 man squad.
Marines also have frag and krak grenades, and bolt pistols, which make them better in close combat.
The sergeant can also get some different weapons.

Non-FW all they really have is Traktor Kannons, but they're one of the few AA guns that doesn't get +1 to hit flyers so it's 1 shot that only hits on 5+

The better performing marine lists ran 2 Ravens with a chapter master and some foot troops to grab objectives. There was a few interesting lists like massed plasma prime marines and centurion spam, but these failed utterly. Tournament winner tabled everyone he played and ran 5 flyers and Robby G

The single ork list went very well, he even tabled 3 opponents, and out-played most people. He had 80 boys, a painboy, wierdboy and Big mek to support them, and tankbusters+skorcha nobz in morkanaut and battlewagon.

Eldar got BTFO, as people were trying all different things after realising bike spam wasnt great anymore. Surprisingly no one took hemlocks. Unsurprisingly no one managed to top 5 with them.

Nids did very well, scary assault hordes are great agin.

Necrons were so so, most lists focused on infantry spam supported by reanimating destroyers.

Guard were shit.
Most people fell for the conscript meme but you really cant deal with a good army, also 2.5 hour time limits made guard on guard fucking tedious.

Tau were shit.

Chaos daemon prince list went 2W/2L and ended in a table every game. Some bad luck being put against a grey knight player with massed smite though. Other chaos lists were decidedly meh.

1500 point game that turned into a stalemate by turn 3 due to bad-deployment between me (Guard) and my opponent (Tau).

A bored Necron Player had showed up but his buddy did not. He drove an hour to the FLGS to get a game in and could only stay for one. We weren't going to be done yet so....

>Tomb World awakens
>3,000 points of Necrons walk out of the middle of the map
>Suddenly becomes a 2v1 as we had to set aside our differences
>Keep trying to back stab each other by turn 8.

Weirdest interruption to a normal game... but we all had fun.

>>54473130
It's not an exception so much as the Shooting phase makes a particular exception that you CAN'T target Characters who aren't the closest unit, while the Charge phase has no such special rule.

But that's just me being pedantic, either way you're correct.

Someone a couple of tables down from me suddenly doubled over in pain and screamed for a bucket because he couldn't make it to the bathroom. He was fat as fuck and his poor diet was likely catching up to him. A samaritan got him one and he was begging for help to get his pants down, but everyone (including, no especically the samaritan) was like "fuck that". He was trying to get his pants down while also clutching his gut. He got his pants down. He begged if someone could help support him while he squatted over the bucket. At this point people started abandoning ship, realising he was serious and it wasn't a prank. I grabbed my shit quick and as I approached the door I remember hearing the loudest, wettest, bubbliest fart ever, and his strained groan shall haunt me forever more.

The place was closed for a week for cleanup, and the guy was never seen again.

Celestine lost to Kharn like she was nothing but an ordinary sister in "Shroud of Night". He literally overran her and overpowered her until he cut off her head.

This is the second time Celestine was defeated by a CSM. First by Abaddon bitchslapping her to the ground and then this. Why is an avatar of the Emperor roo weak like this?

>Anyway What I wanted to ask is there any recommendations as to what I should add to my army if I wish to play the game as of the latest edition?
I'd suggest getting enough to have full units for starters. Besides that, razorbacks are good, preadators are ungodly good as of the codex, land raiders are amazing centerpieces and really powerful, devs and ass marines are always a good choice. In general though I'd suggest getting whatever you think looks coolest or is the fluffiest, since most everything can do fine.
>Also what are some fun space marine chapters?
That depends a lot on you as a person, since there are so many options.
Blue romans who are sticklers for rules, green catholic monks who are a joke on gayness and love plasma, furry viking marines, red vampires who like jump packs, coal black skinned green friendly pyromaniacs, yellow autists who like to fortify positions, mongolians who like to go fast, sneekie beakies, robo-marines, red theiving wizards, camo tacticool reasonable-ish marines, deus vulting marines and so on.
It really depends a lot on what you like in terms of playstyle and what you like in terms of fluff.

Or does the limitation out and out ban him from anything but Sanguinary?
>>
>>54473941
Strategems have the same language chapter tactics do for picking them for successors, so yes your dudes can use born in the saddle. Warlord traits and relics do not have this however. So if you choose to run using your own keyword and not "count as" white scars using their keyword you're limited to generic traits and relics.
>>
>>54474003
Relic and Warlord trait. Relic is a 3 Dmg Power Fist with no minus to hit. Warlord trait is +d3 attacks if 10 enemies or more within 6". Pedro Kantor MUST take the Crimson Fists Warlord trait. I would have preferred Iron Resolve (+1 wound and ignore wound on 6).

Since your save is modified on a failed roll, you should do them one at a time. All saves should technically be taken one at a time, but most are rolled simultaneously to save time.

Literally the opposite description of a game I just got home from playing.

GK + IG vs Black Templars - Templars went first and ruined Stormravens + IG Basilisks and were clearly ascendant by turn 2, but then a couple of beastly rounds of combat by GK and IG characters turned the tide and we ended up claiming more objectives to win the game on turn 6.

Thanks man. In case you're interested, here's the list I'm currently using in 8e. I've had wins against most of my opponents, but it's easily countered if they've played you before and can tailor their list like a little bitch. Relic Contemptor Dreadnoguhts basically just fuck anything they look at, and Tyberos deep-striking with the two ranged Termie units and the Librarian is great for both melee and ranged, due to Tyberos giving re-rolls to hit in both phases. Currently the only character I haven't been able to kill with Tyberos in one round is Abaddon, but I wouldn't send him up against anything tougher than a dreadnought. He eats Terminators like they weren't even there to begin with. Buff him with Veil of Time from the Librarian and enjoy always hitting first and re-rolling charges.
On that note, which chapter tactic should I pick, assuming Carcharodons don't get a specific one. Currently I'm leaning towards Ultramarines, Raven Guard or Black Templars.

I faced off against a genestealer cult/tyranid army.

3 formations.

genestealer cult
1 patriarch
2 magus
4 10 strong genestealer units
and nids
75 gaunts + big thing that kept bringing them back (trevgon?)

i won but barely.

things i learned.

missle launchers are wroth every point. i think they may be better than heavy bolters. d6 hits on a unit helped out perform.

Abbadon got charged by 6 genestealers and sruvived.. he by himself just about wiped out 2 units of genestealers AND the patriarch. (but was left with 1 wound at the end of the game.)

the knight was mvp removing unit of genestealers easly shooting and charging and playing stompfest.

Predators were somewhat ineffective but forced him to hide his trevgon looking big thing.

the gaunts bascially put 9 wounds on the knight in the shooting phases total.

also i was lucky that he rolled 3 1's for his ambushing genestealer units. (he even used one of the re-rolls ..

he got 2 units (1 withing 9" and 2nd at 12" from my units.

other genestealer units had to setup on his far table edge.

i'm sure he would of won if he had gotten those 2 more units in my face.

so what cheese should i consdier to counter this spam? Hellturkeys?
>>

>>
>>54475429

>>54475614
>>54475629
There indeed is no vanilla Space Marines right now. On the Notes page, if you scroll down a bit, you'll see a little graphic of what I have and haven't done, and vanilla SM is one of the few things I haven't done. I mostly have been working based off of requests, and asking for new requests each time I finish a faction. After doing this for a couple of months, no one has ever requested vanilla SM.

>>54475650
The Notes page has some information that might be helpful to reading the other sheets. Each faction page has three tables:
Top left/largest/the one you immediately see: Average wounds per turn. This chart is separated into three areas: attacker stats on the left, attacker name/weapon in the middle, and finally the average wounds per turn to the right, under columns for each defender type.
Top right/smallest: Stats for the different target dummies, where you can see the stats I used.
Bottom/colorful: Points per wound per turn. Basically the cost of a given unit divided by the average wounds from the top table, to give you a rough measure of "how many points do I need to put into this unit to get 1 wound per turn on average against this target". Green is higher efficiencies, red is lower efficiencies. This table is not yet done for DEldar, likely to be completed later this coming week.
>>
>>54475757
Thanks, chart anon. Maybe once the codex drops you can do vanilla SM next? Would be interesting to see the effectiveness of the new primaris guns.
>>
>>54475320

How does a kabalite warrior do 2.22 wounds per turn with a splinter rifle?
>>
>>54475749
Two knights and two drakes should do well against a list like that. If you're ok with FW check out leviathans, fire raptors and storm eagles.
>>
>>54475808
I'm guessing those are all the kabalites in the squad shooting, not just one.
>>
>>54475714
Pretty sure you multiply, then add.

At least that's how it was in 7th.
>>
>>54475808
>>54475320

On that same note, bloodbrides are dealing 3.33 damage per turn how? They're each doing more wounds than they have?

>>54475838
Except its not. Also, define squad. Is it 5? Is it 4 because of the special? Is it 3 because of special plus leader? What about max squad? They're not.
>>
>>54475845
>>54475714
Yeah, found it.

Page 175 in the rule book, on the side bar.

You multiply, then add. So a Marine with +1 S and a Power Fist would be S9
>>
>>54475796
Sure thing! I was already sort of planning such. Tyranids are the only other biggy I haven't covered yet.

>>54475808
>>54475838 is correct. You'll notice the "Unit Size" column. Units which have model-minimums, I'll generally do the numbers for the minimum unit count special wargear options are on a single-model basis, so their numbers are run for a single model. (The cost-calcs which are done at the bottom always incorporate the model-count)
>>
>>54475870
How can one chart anon be so based?
>>
>>54475855
Check the Unit Size column; those are numbers for 5 Blood Brides.
>>
>>54475827
Yea i was thinking about a storm eagle and/or 2nd knight. the hellturkeys seems like a good idea. 2 or 3 of em.
>>
>>54475905
I wouldn't bring too many drakes because they don't put out THAT much damage. I'd say two max, maybe just one if you're taking other flyers.
>>
>>54475808
>>54475855
Really checking attacker-stat columns in general is a good idea. I am very much fallible, and other kind anons have pointed out the occasional stupid mistake. If something looks really fishy, there's a fair chance I screwed up, or I'm computing for multiple models which you weren't expecting. If anyone spots any mistakes, please do let me know (I stalk the chat on the sheet, and AFK on it to receive messages) and I'll fix it right up as soon as I get the chance.

I secretly have fairly limited experience, and certainly have not played every faction I do stats for, and as such you may have a better eye for funky numbers for your factions of choice than I do.
>>
>primaris point cost reduction
>unit size increase
>wargear options
Guess getting 2 sets of the dark imperium wasnt such a bad idea:
10 intercessors with stalker-rifles
10 intercessors with bolt-rifles
10 hellblasters with standard incinerators
6 assault-bolter inceptors (mortal wound buff was nice)
and enough bits from the HQs to make some custom captains/lieutenants. All thats left is to grab some reivers and maybe a pair of repulsors
>>
>>54475936

It's both good and kinda weird that you do minimum squads. It's good because you can look at a chunk of dudes doing damage, but weird because who runs 5 normal kabalites?

Anyway, I really want to see the rest of the deldar charts because looking at this, Kabalites are pretty much trash, which is what I was expecting anyway. Actually just in general, Deldar numbers are pretty low.
>>
>>54475663
Not really. Having S9 means you can wound some of the toughest things in the game on 4's. What else are you going to buff with him? Terminators are by far the most survivable unit available to SM, and bringing ranged terminators means you can deal damage in both the shooting and assault phases. Yeah, you could bring assault terminators with lightning claws, but then you're only useful while in combat. At least with ranged ones they don't run around like headless chickens dealing zero damage when they can't reach anything.
>>
>>54475989
Yeah, it's one of those sort of arbitrary decisions I made. The entire sheet started from just seeing how much a block of 10 T'au FW did against a block of Necrons, where there aren't really any weapon options on said FW, and the question is definitely how much the block does, as opposed to the individual soldiers. My process has changed significantly since I started (which is why I recently re-wrote the T'au sheet in its entirety), but that bit stuck around.

You'll probably find the cost-calcs more interesting, because I'll be both doing different mock-ups for squad armaments, and because the resulting numbers are easily compared to the other factions.

Is there a reason I'm missing as to while the Kaivex is doing more damage with one demiglaive than both?
>>
>>54476041
It's dependent on what target he's facing.
Single vs Dual-blade on the Demiklaives have pros and cons. Dual-blade has the bonus two attacks, but lower S and AP. This means that Dual-blade is superior against light infantry where the extra S and AP would be wasted, but inferior against heavier targets.

hellblasters are enormously fragile for their cost. You really, really don't want to use them as speed bumps or screeners like you would intercessors or tacticals.

5-10 hellblasters are quite good but more than that is risky.

The other reason is that running a heavy support detachment really fucks up your CP count which is a big deal since marine strategems are really good.
>>
