Not sure what to have as the party's endgoal. Using AFMBE as the base game. Suggestions?

Depends on the player's level of setting knowledge mostly. Are they rookies IRL? Then the Wish Granter probably would have greatest pull on them. After all, who doesn't like their most sacred wishes fulfilled?
Other lore places like the Oasis for example, are also a good motivator.
But the classics should be the main focus. An antagonist, and something at stake.
Perhaps the Monolyth has a new converted preacher, threathening expansion? or a new charismatic bandit leader is stealing men left and right from Borov or Sultan?
Are the Millitary after someone from th party, that has deserted from the cordon? And the only way to hide is deeper into the Zone each week.
Make sure that you interweave the party's story in the setting, so you get ample hooks.
>>
I was considering making them some of the first stalkers to arrive in the Zone. Slightly before the first game.
>>
As I have one that doesn't know lore, and I'm rather rusty myself

Hey, I will now shamelessly shill my own little Stalker homebrew.
Even made a cheeky website for it

Might give you Ideas, or if you decide, you can outright use it.

STALKER is as much about the atmosphere and culture of the zone, as it is about the story. It's good to have some large overarching goal, but it shouldn't be too time intensive, and able to take a back seat, so that players can experience the zone, and create their own little side stories that make stalker such an interesting game

Also, it might be good if each player comes in with a kinda defined character in what goals they want, no matter how simple. Some come to the zone to be rich, others come for the dangers, others still are searching for escape. The wide range of characters make the zone.

Additionally, stalker is known for its interesting personalities and characters, so have a few of those guys on hand. Also do not be afraid to kill them or players. Death is common in the zone, so do not shy away from it

How would one even attempt to bribe the Military in the Zone?
Wouldn't they just smoke your trespassing ass while you try to approach them with hands up for example?
>>
>>54459835
Watch them, learn their routines, try to talk to one off duty, ideally in a bar or something. Perhaps try to get to know someone who knows one of them - maybe he (or she?) could introduce you.

Military aren't just trigger happy thugs (although the game seems to portray them that way). If you had no weapon and something tempting like a box of vodka and dirty magazines, perhaps some DVDs, I'm sure they'd let you in.

You could also communicate with the via radio and try to get to know one of them, try to bribe them "by phone", organize a meeting outside the compound, or inside if they're more comfortable that way.

As long as you waltz up unannounced packing weaponry and looking sneaky, you should be alright.

Trying to bribe monolith - now there's a problem...

A group of bad dudes back in Srbije gave the PCs an opportunity to transport a couple dufflebags of heroin from one side of the Zone to the other, to skirt a country recently turned too unfriendly and risky for their enterprises.

Who knows what shenanigans will ensue. Maybe that's motivation for only one PC working with a group of other STALKERS

How dare you in your arrogant little irradiated mind suggest that the righteous defenders of the Monolyth can be bribed at all, insect.
Blessed will be the day when we will spread troughout the Zone as a cleansing wave, to get it rid from your parasitic pressence

No, you idiot. Also essential is the consumption of Cossacks Vodka. You cannot call yourself a true stalker without getting absolutely wasted and dancing to bandit radio at 05:00 hours.

GM Challenge: Post a good textual description of 3 anomalies as they appear in the video games.

Hard mode: Include an anomaly from the short story which inspired the games.

Don't forget about good meal of bread and tin full of... meat-like paste.

Don't eat the sausages, they contain even less meat people whisper that it contains mostly toilet paper. used, judging by taste.

Military are people too, and they don't want to be stuck in this hellhole. Some of them are probably in there as a punishment. And don't forget that Russian/Former-Soviet public servants are notoriously corrupt. They are poorly motivated and might well be conscripts, so they need to be bribed just to make them do their jobs.

Try offering them something that tastes better than their shitty rations. Also booze, and more money than their shitty wages are paying them for. Any kind of leisure good or entertainment normally inaccessible to zone-based former soviet military should work.

>>54463101
>tin full of... meat-like paste
But the best before date hasn't elapsed yet! And how could anyone turn down an unwrapped, uncooked sausage found in a box in a secret research facility?

Who bakes all that bread anyway?

Any wind, gravity based anomaly.
When you look at the swamp something feels off. It looks like in some places air is very hot - just like above a campfire.

Upon closer inspection you notice that grass is bent wrong way - away from such points.
Electric anomaly.
You hear a Humm, just like from a transformer. It buzzes irregularly, and a bit eerie, with a slight echo to the sound.

Upon closer inspection of floor, you find slight blueish trails of electricity going through concrete.

Acid
You notice a greenish stains on the ground, surrounded by moss. Looks like moss is slightly burnt around this area. then you notice half dissolved body of a radrat.

Here's 3. Enjoy

>>54463247
There is probably a Stalker bakery, harvesting radwheat and cooking bread. With vodka to remove rads.
>>
>>54458336
I did a "Post apocalyptic survival" game that was similar to Stalker, but it took place in my home town. (I did that campaign about 6 or so years ago, and it was a big success.)

I retweaked a lot of pre-existing D20 modern adventures so that they would fit in an apocalyptic setting, and I found a map of my hometown and sort've "redrew" it so that it wasn't immediately recognizable.

Here are some ideas I used in that campaign:
>Fuel and ammo were the main type of currency, Transporting gasoline was a common quest early on
>Setting up and building a base of operations became important, early on. So players spent a lot of time scoping out areas that would make a good base
>Clearing out sewers and old abandoned power facilities was a major undertaking

I guess the "end-campaign" goal was to restore power to a destroyed city and build a small faction that funneled resources into the zone. It was a good time.

run by a coalition of babushkas.

they are the best shots in the Zone.

>Stalker bakery

Slice of life STALKER, where you're struggling to stay alive while keeping a bakery running on the edges of the Zone?

>I heard there was an intact high-speed mixer over in the Garbage. It was dropped on one of the irradiated hills.
>Normally you could just get wasted with a bunch of radiation meds to climb it while dodging anomalies and mutant dogs.
>Problem is, the bandit gang who moved in is trigger-happy as hell and will shoot the crap out of anyone who tries to get up there.
>Also, there have also been reports of Military in the area. They will be suspicious as hell and try to blow up anyone lugging such a large payload
>>
>>54463637
But the priiiize....with this mixer, the babushkas will finally be able to make what everyone has desired for so long

COOKIES
>>
>>54463844
>cookies

>go on an epic quest into the center of the Zone to find the industrial mixer
>with the ability to distribute cookies to needy stalkers, the Zone will be a slightly less awful place
>several veterans have volunteered their skills to the task of escorting the mixer back to the Bakery.
>As payment, the veterans expect a supply of fresh-baked chocolate chip cookies for their efforts.

What are you standing around there for, STALKER? If you want to go through, come up and we'll have a chat. If not, I suggest you take off before we get angry!
