Any edition of dnd. The risk mainly comes from how you design your encounters and environments. Make sure you explain the deadly nature of your campaign though, so that they'll take precautions while roleplaying instead of derping towards a premature end. It'll also be a good idea if they prepare more than one character, so that they don't be cry and sour the rest of the session after losing their special snowflake Drow assassin.

IF you don't want the setting itself with the 40k aspect, just run it with primitive weapons located in the book.
Obviously don't have tech priests.
But it's kinda close. Madness, corruption, horrors, all that jazz.
Just change some labels.
