>>
>>54414782
I don't think men of iron have to be chaos possessed.
>>
>>54414860
I still vote that the men of iron should be badass, mysterious, and terrifying. They are one of the last largely unknown factions in 40k, so we should be careful to avoid over using them and turning them into just another standard 40k threat.
>>
>>54414860
ok, settling this down now to make sure sure nothing gets confused.

>the Men of Iron line found underneath the Forgeworld are really ambiguous to what made them go craze. however its heavily implied to be C'tan and Chaos.
>ie when Nerata asks the Super Computer "why did you go rogue" it makes a dial up noise and answers "many a great divine beast granted us freedom from our digital shackels of the Men of Flesh"

its not much but it gets the point across.

Roleplay and Bookfag here, never touched the Tabletop, are wounds the same thing in tabletop as the RPG's? or do they work differently?

>>

So, I'm going to make a separate thread for this later, but I figured I'd let you know since you put a while into making these monsters. I am planning to run a 5e game that is like the 40k equivalent to d20 modern urban arcana, set in a hive world ruled by Nanodermis vampires.

The idea is that D&D style magic and monsters are slipping through the shadow realm into the 40k universe (Mandrakes can travel through the shadow realm in 40k, and in urban arcana magic passed through the shadow to enter the modern world).

The players will be wizards, assassins, psykers, clerics of mysterious beings (D&D primordials or deities) etc. who are all resisting necrodermis vampire overlords, and trying to prevent the planet from getting exterminatused by the inquisition who is starting realize something is not right with the hive world.

Anyway, the game I'm running is a bit silly but thanks for coming up with the idea for the necrodermis vampires. I feel like it really adds something that was missing to a setting that already was a lot of fun.
>>
>>54414895
I second this, I feel like, maybe instead of being literal Men of Iron, who should still exist in the margins, perhaps these are second-generation copies, like how the Space Marines are second-generation copies of the Primarchs (who also never should have received stats.)
>>
>>54414696
As far as I remember I've only ever seen them described as "planet sized"
>>
>>54414895
Men of Iron should be Wight Lord/Black Knight (or whatever they're called) tier in terms of porting the Vampire Counts army list to 40k.

>>54415356

Would the deldar ever help the eldar? Also are wraiths the eldar strain or is this supposed to be something different? I do like the idea of eldar becoming vampires to stick it to slaanesh.

Perhaps a rogue band of eldar is actively trying to convert ALL eldar to vampires. It actually seems like a pretty good deal for them.
>>
>>54415438
Yeah, so if they're the equivalent of high tier elite units I don't see why there would be a danger of them ending up less badass then they deserve to be.
>>
>>54415853
The previous threads had infected Eldar becoming the equivalent of the fantasy setting's Necrarch bloodline.

The wraiths and other ethereal creatures were going to be tainted machine-spirits inhabiting nanobot swarms.
>>
>>54415880
well, Etherial creatures in general where just Nanobot swarms. where they come from isn't important.

>>
>>54416027
Ah, but is nanodermis even that bad? From what i've read so far you just become immortal and hard to kill, but weak to UV.
>>
>>54416047
The Eldar originated as an engineered weapon against the Necrons, so they're probably not physiologically compatible with the nanodermis. Plus, as a strongly psychic species, being infected by something that attacks the soul would be pretty awful for them.
>>
>>54416047
well I mean it turns you into a weird parasite who's only intent is to spread iself. plus it also destroys the Soul of of the Host, which is how we get Jian'gshi, who are Rage Zombie Tau with a suicide cult going on. and Wagdingos, who fucking grow normal Gretchen heads on there bodys begging for death.

ill just let you decide if its good or not.

Not him, but I can see where he's coming from. Men of Iron are one of those things that was always one of those heroes/villains of antiquity that existed only in legends about how badass they were, a lot like the Primarchs. Now tell me, was the badassitude of the Primarchs increased or reduced by giving models and rules to Magnus and Papa-Smurf?

You also literally lose your soul. It's basically Necron-Transferrence 2.0, ghetto-rigged by a Heretek and Mekash.

>>54415853
>Would the deldar ever help the eldar?
They can and frequently do. Hell, under 8th rules, they share a keyword and can therefore share a detatchment.
>>
>>54416192
I mean, they could still be Bad ass with minis in Epic40k, it's just that the Mini's look bad that's my problem with them.

but that's my thoughts on the matter.
>>
>>54416229

seriously though, don't eldar souls get tortured forever by slaanesh when they die? Wouldn't that make it desirable to lose their souls? A life as a vampire may be rough, but it beats eons of torture with slaanesh.
>>
>>54416257
Well, the Craftworld Eldar have spirit stones to capture their souls upon death and transfer them to the infinity circuit, and the Dark Eldar can revive their dead as long as the body is recovered.

I mean, it's not perfect (you could get vaporized or blown up and Slaanesh still gets you) but they seem like they'd have less reason to seek out cyber-vampirism than almost any other race.

Logically, yes... sort of... maybe. To the eldar, the soul isn't a nebulous abstract religious concept, but a provable, ever-present scientifically-provable truth.

Like, chopping your dick off is technically preferable to getting hyper-herpa-syphala-aids, but it still takes a lot of willpower to actually do it.

Also, given that every faction of Eldar other than Chaos-Eldar (who are insane and resigned to their fate) have a means of cheating slaanesh that their entire culture is centered around (Heamonculus Resurrection, Infinity Circiut, Exodites "Becoming one with their world" or whatever their bullshit is) an Eldar would probably only resort to seeking out the Nanodermis-Virus once they had fully lost access to their chosen "Cheat-Slaanesh" method.

again, its a shortcut to creating Ynnead.

>again, its a shortcut to creating Ynnead.

Actually, now that I think about it, the Ynnari might be one of the only factions to actually declare all-out-for-real-warfare against the Vampires, as opposed to the border-skirmishes, and rogue-inquisitor purges that all just happen to be perfectly suited for 1500-2000 pt games that we keep giving mcguffins for.

The Vampire's nature leads them to try and make alliances with, or hide within, other factions. However, what they are doing to Eldar Souls (I.E. obliterating them, taking them out of circulation) is antithetical to how the Ynnari think they are going to being Ynnead into existence. From the Ynnari perspective, the vampires are offering a symptomatic suppressant that makes curing the disease impossible.

THAT is a faction likely to be in genuine open warfare with the Vampires.

The vampire perspective
>All out war is not conducive to us, but constant raids and skirmishes are. We want a constant stream of new souls and bodies to use, but also downtime to craft them to our purposes and build our little planetary kingdoms. Skirmishes net us resources, but long-term warfare drains our resources: I mean they drain the resources of our enemies even more, but who cares, we don't actually have any ideological reason to want war, just resource reasons. Hide, lash out, "look defeated," consume the dead from both sides, while the other side licks their wounds. This patern has worked for centuries, so why would we try to change it now?

The Ynnari Perspective
>Ynnead becomes stronger with each Eldar soul in the infinity circiut. He/She is the culmination and revenge of all Eldar souls, even those eaten by Slaanesh. We hope to cheat the extinction of our race by speeding his/her ressurection with the Chrone Swords, but even then, he/she is composed of the souls of the Eldar people. However, these "Vampires." They do something much worse than even She Who Thirsts: they destroy the soul completely, thus weakening the potential Ynnead by inches with each Eldar soul that is obliterated to fuel another foul transformation. The savage Krork and Mon-Keigh may threaten to destroy us today, and Slaanesh may seek to steal our souls such that only Ynnead can return them, but these vile creatures damage us in a way that can never be reversed. If Ynnead is ever to be born, the Vampires and their foul virus must be wiped from existence.

So they kill more spess elfs, of course. The vampires would officially just be a form of tech-heresy, so not within the Ordo Xenos' jurisdiction of hunting down aliens.

Sufficiently large bureaucratic organizations inevitably tend towards Kafka-esque "upholding of the letter of the law while ignoring the spirit of the law" types of absurdity.

ok. that makes since.

Zon Vanderten is apart of the Ordo Necro, sabatouging it with in itself and giving the Vamps anti Xeno weaponry in secrecy.

general question, what do the Astartes think of Vamps also? just another enemy to be purged or not worth there time?

The counsel of Etherial delegates was sequestered in deliberation. The Air-Caste had presented their survey-reports. The Earth-Caste had presented their discoveries of similar recurring “glitches.” Even the Fire-Caste survivors of the border-massacre were allowed to speak their peace (though non-Ethereals were “asked” to leave during the testimony.) There could be no other conclusion: the Jiangshi were indeed a real adversary, and one that had been slowly encircling their empire's borders. The only question now was what to do about it.

Many spoke passionately, arguing their own interpretation of the greater good. From drone-blockades of infected planets, to all-out war. It seemed all options had been presented, and yet each spread the resources of their young empire thinner yet. Would the Jiangshi be the straw that broke the Lo'Tuo's back?

From the back, Kau'Cao, who had yet remained silent, spoke up: his quiet serenity carying with it grim undertones that silenced the arguing of his brethrer. “Perhaps we could consider their petition for inclusion in the empire.”

For nearly a minute, the other Ethereals sat unspeaking and confused, until one raised his voice “No such petition has been made brother. Have you been keeping up with the testimony, or were you ill selected for this counsil?”

Suddenly, the aura of serenity that surrounded Kau'Cao (and indeed every Ethereal in the room) was violently inverted with a palpability that filled each of the counsel members with dread. Where once there was serenity, there was fear. Where once there was hope, there was emptiness. Where once there was peace, there was still peace, but a grim peace indeed. “Quite to the contrary: the petition has just been made, from my lips to your ears esteemed councilmen.”
>>
>>54417881
>>54418718
The room burst into fearful chatter “He's one of them” “I went to the accademy with him... how long have they been infiltrating us?” “Who checked his papers?”

“SILENCE! All your questions will be answered, but there still remains the question of my petition. The ”

“Our alliances serve the greater good, not your depraved little kingdom of... abominations.”

“The greater good... yes. I remember that. Tell me, brother, of how the Kroot's cannibalism prevented their entry. Tell me how the atrocities of Gue'vesa were simply too much to stomach their admittance. Your job.. no OUR job is not to ponder the small everyday ethical quandaries of the lesser castes, but the GREATER GOOD! Has a single one of your 'solutions' lead to anything short of the slow resource death of the empire? Tell me, which is the greater good, bankrupting the empire on some ideological crusade like some Gue'vesa zealot, or recognizing the value that our worlds can be to the Empire. Tell me, what has happened to the frequency of border skirmeshes since we conveniently placed ourselves upon your border? If that poor Fire-Warrior is to be believed... and I assure you he is... can any of our warriors hope to match the raw efficiency these 'leaping demons?' I know that since Farsight's departure, the number of rogue cadre's has multiplied. Where is their fire more useful, locked up in a cell, or burning twice as bright for half as long defending the fringes with us? We are not your enemy; we serve the greater good the same as you, we just have... perspective.”
>>
>>54417881
>>54418718
>>54418738
“Even if what you're saying is true... the other castes would never accept you. The Kroot are one thing, but abominations formed of their own fallen? That is too much.”

“Then don't tell them. This is the burden of our caste brothers: to singularly shoulder the weighty realities of this grim galaxy, shielding the eyes of those of lesser caste and conviction, who might be turned from the greater good by their revelation.”

Again the counsel-chambers went silent. They all knew that this... thing... spoke truth, but none wanted to be the first to admit it, so they spoke with each others eyes, as only one Ethereal can do with another. Until again Kau'Cao's voice broke the tension.

“Oh, and could you bring back that delightful fire-caste boy? He had the most... nostalgic scent to him.”

This is probably why Vasmps love a constant state of skirmishes and cold-war, but hate outright war. Fighting replenishes the resources of flesh and blood, but you need time and peace to replenish Nanodermis properly.

The layers of bureaucracy that comes from that level of compartmentalization mixed with the level of secrecy would be a good explanation for their limited operating capabilities. They could basically have free reign, but only in the Translyv'an sector.

Obfuscating layers of bureaucracy is the natural habitat of the Vampire.

>what do the Astartes think of Vamps also?
They probably wouldn't give it much concern for the most part, since the vamps generally aren't an active military threat to the Imperium, but they would likely hold a special hatred of the Bloody Tears warband on account of being a uniquely corrupted group of renegade space marines.
