First for Ulthuan!
>>
Second for Hotel Lorien.
>>
2nd for Fimir.
>>
So, I've been digging through my old homebrews, and stumbled upon idea I found somewhat original.
>Mournelves
>Former High Elves from a colony on the eastern shore of Old World
>During the War of the Beard and the ensuing chaos, combined with Dark Elves and various locals attacking them from the sea, they lost ties to Ulthuan and pulled inland, into Mountains of Mourn. They came into conflict with Ogres, who became their main enemies.
>During their wars with Ogres they learned about the Sky-Titans and managed to track down the last few remaining. The two races forged a pact and carved a small enclave in the Mountain of Mourn, fighting off attacking Ogres, Cathaians, Marauders Chaos Dwarfs, Skaven and Greenskins.
>They basically are pragmatic and ruthless, but not evil, elves.
>They use firearms (Sky-Titan tech adapted to elf size), tame mountain cats as mounts and combat pets, but are overall less magic-oriented than other elves.
>They have no dragons, but Sky-Titans acts as their extremely pricey (and very powerful) Lords and Rares
>Unlike other elves they have no core bowmen, spearelves or cavalry, but have crossbowmen, pistolier skirmishers and halberdiers (hooked anti-ogre halberds)
>Originally they were supposed to be part of homebrewed Cathai campaign, which would also include Cathai, Hung and Tzeentchian army lists, but I didn't even finish the Mournelves one

Any thoughts?

But other than that, blergh.

Drop everything Sky Titan and just use giants, drop the ancient tech angle and you might have something.
>>
>>54404538
Hu snow elves could be cool, especially with some technology. The Mountain of Mourns are a bit far away tough, you should maybe think about some reason for pushing that far.

Also, you should probably balance their technological level, like worry about giving them a "Better than you" fibe if you understand me; especially compared to the Dwarf and Chaos Dwarf.

Maybe dig a little on the Sky-Titans side, maybe the traditional elven magic are now partially forgotten, but they learned some traditional Sky-Titan magic lore, who help them survive in the rude condition of the moutain ?

except this staff has a huge axe head
>>
>>54404802
>the black powder tech comes from Cathai, so is inferior to dwarfish one

Why are they using blackpowder tech? If they're being pragmatic, their bows have longer reach, better penetration and a quicker firing rate. Why are they resorting to weapons that are not only objectively worse but also give away their position?
>>
>>54404843
do trees even grow in the Mountains of Mourn?
also, mountain beasts have thick hides, need something stronger than arrows to punch through
>>
>>54404870
I'd wager arrows are easier to make and cheaper to acquire than cathai blunderbuses, blackpowder and shot.

It'd make more sense for them to go Rambo and use the blackpowder to make explosive arrow heads.
>>
>>54404802
Honestly I kinda liked the Sky Titans thing. Depends what you want to do with them, but you can twist the date/lore a little. Not really a major event, nobody will care.

I'm enjoying the idea of snow elves being the ones that got closer to the old ones culture second hand through the sky titans stuff

Rape culture, here we come!
>>

>>
>>54405479
Who's going to rape who?
>>
>>54405981
Orcs don't have dicks
>>
>>54405996
In old editions they had.

Also I don't know if it is stated that they don't have it now. They don't need it for reproductive purpose but may use dicks in dick length contests or to humiliate opponents by rape or something else that Brit football fans used to do in 80s.
>>
>>54405996
They do have, they just don't use them for sex, but to piss.
>>
>>54406031
How do you know they piss out of dicks and don't just have a small opening?
>>
>>54406046
I don't recall the name, but there was a short story in which a human saw orcs pissing. Hopefully I don't remember it wrong.
>>
So what's the story behind amazons? Are they norscan women that start worshipping pepes? Were they always there?
>>
In 8th, it's stated that when you charge you need to bring the maximum amount of enemies into combat. So does that mean if a 5 wide unit charges a ten wide unit, it needs to finish its charge so 7 enemies are engaged with corner to corner touching rather than 6 if it wasn't lined up 1 to 1.

Or simpler, if a grand master charges a unit of minotaurs, does he have to end up in contact with two or just one? If he has to bring the max number of models into combat it would seem he has to touch two and open himself up to being attacked by both and two sets of supporting attacks.

>>54406189
I think both have been mentioned in different editions/places.

It could always be that they are something set up by the Slann, immortal jungle women that sometimes fight the lizardmen or sometimes worship them, who also happen to recruit women they come across as well to boost their ranks most notably female norscans that came across with the explorers on their longboats.

There doesn't seem to be a clear reasoning behind if they help or murder forigeners either, but they are more more antagonistic towards outsiders than they are lizardmen.

They had a mercenary regiment of renown too.
>>
>>54406189
Humans that got uplifted by the old ones.
Have love/hate relation with the pepes. Norse kinda respect them and are somewhat freaked out by them. Everyone else is just freaked out.

So, apparently in the mists of time, back in 6th edition there was a White Dwarf article about making your own Knightly Order, and you could shake up the Lance&Shield formula with morningstars, pistols, etc.

Like everything in Warhammer there's multiple explanations.

I imagine that if the fluff continued the Empire and Brets and Dorf (Germany, Franks, Eastern Europe) would defeat the Chaos invasions (Mongols, Huns), but they'd need a lot of time to recover, so Albion (Britain) suddenly rises as the Old World's strongest naval power and two hundred years later becomes the world's superpower, Great Albion.

>>54408766
This. Hag Witches can actually appear as crones even as children or teens, a hideous and uncanny effect that shows the spirits are particularly concerned with them.

Ice Witches grow more beautiful with age and power, and while they have a period of (theoretically) mandatory celibacy, eventually they're allowed to do what they will with whom they will (and they do). Realm of the Ice Queen notes that Ice Witch wives, mistresses, and confidants riddle Kislev's Gospodarin power structure, probably not unlike the way of Damsels or even Lahmian vampires.

The catch is that Ice Witches, like most wizards, are affected by their magic as much as they effect it. They tend to be distant, cold, unaffectionate, unsympathetic, etc.

Oh fuck off, it's a medieval-style setting. Ignoring that there were differences in treatment between the genders at all would be 'unrealistic,' but the game still gives a believable amount of wiggle room for characters of both genders, even Bretonnian knights.

It is not a bad thing to acknowledge something exists and then suggest workarounds. It's a bad thing to go 'everyone is equal and you can't argue with it' and leave no sense of character (a female jade wizard would be regular, a female celestial wizard would be extraordinary) to your choices.
>>
>>54411525
Honestly I understand. The concept of a glass ceiling for female mage is stupid, at least in the empire ( in a very patriarcal society like Norsca, I could argue it's logical).
I don't see why they should give a fuck about a mage gender. While it's justified in the case of a soldier, mage aren't soldier, and they are no difference between sex when it comes to magic, and anyone with knowledge about magic should knew this ( and most of them do, look at the High Elves and the Treefucker).

I mean the College of Magic studied under Teclis, and I would assume Teclis was smart enough to tell them "And for Asurian sake you mongrel, don't ignore half of your potential mage; being more fited for fighting won't change a thing, I mean look at me !" since the High elves themselve don't care when it's come to mage.

But I maye overestimate the High elf cultural influence on the college of magic here.

On the other hand, I totaly approve mage from place like Norsca being affected by the obvious social difference betwen sex. Brettonia too, but they are kinda of a exception, since it's the other way around for them.
>>
>>54411641
>Ignoring that there were differences in treatment between the genders at all would be 'unrealistic,'

Warhammer's equivalent of the Pope is a chick. Priestesses are a common sight and have a lot of power among masses especially Shallaya ones that are pretty much the only thing between a sick commoner and death. Verena's priestesses are the most valued judges. Not even mentioning stuff like Ottilia.

Acting like if they would have the same social standards and rules as humans in real life did is idiotic.

This shit is the result of 40k writers messing with the lore to make in more like 40k with badass manly dudes everywhere and more grimderp.
>>
>>54411827
>since it's the other way around for them

There are more cultures with all female caster casts in WH than other way around. Just look at Kislev, Brets or dark elves.

>>
>>54411643
It's more like the world outside of the Colleges makes a big deal about gender, while the Colleges themselves don't really give a shit and just want to keep tabs on magical talent.

Imperials seem to have more of a fear of witches, and are more likely to blame the weird woman with the unexplained powers when something goes wrong. And then poor girls probably don't have the same opportunities to make their way to Altdorf as a poor boy (or maybe all the poor are fucked over), so it's mostly up to the rich/noble girls. This is almost the opposite of the Bretonnians views, whose magic-users are all female and see male wizard with suspicion.

I mean, she seems like a really unspectacular Bright Wizard honestly.
She's got magic but she isn't even at the "blowing up hordesof enemies with a single spell" level like regular tabletop battlefield wizards are.
Honestly, WFRP 3e was recently out at the time and it had a Bright Wizard woman, and that went a bit of the way to evening the number of female PC's in the Vermintide game without breaking the lore too hard like a female Empire Captain or Dwarf Ranger would or whatever.

You just jumped to that conclusion because she's actually got a name and she's in a famous game.

I think generally the Colleges want to take care of things on their own and keep the Witchhunters out - the Witchhunters don't trust them all that much, and they're quick to try and take care of any rogue members and scoop up those with magical talent...even though they can't be everywhere at once, and obviously some slip through the cracks. And the Hedgewise specifically would have a lot of problems with religious folks coming after them, since it was partially the fault of the various religions of the Empire that they've been stuck in backwoods villages.

But Estalia and Tilea aren't united - they're a gaggle of city-states and petty kingdoms. And not only that, but they fight amongst themselves, so none of them just sit there being rich and peaceful, and no one really ever takes control. Even Bretonnia is technically more powerful than they are, just because it's united and Bretonnians share something I hesitantly call 'national pride.'

Not him, but you know that was literally around 1000 years ago in the Warhammer World timeline, right? Around the time the Empire was split three ways into three separate countries?

Might as well talk about Aenarion in the present tense if you're gonna go that far back before the "present" of the games seeing as you're already quoting information based on an event so old that the setting didn't even look the same as it does now.

How did they manage that?
>>
>>54413829
True that, and I don't doubt that the Empire doesn't have a bigger army, even Bretonnia with it's way-outdated feudal levy system would have more.

Just pointing out that the current representation of forces is not based off of "modern" info, and that a city-state's individual wealth can indeed make it a very powerful place. See; Mairenburg who gets to count as an entire Elector State despite being just one city by virtue of how much damn money the port brings the Empire.

Plus, the Empire is just shite at working together. The Knights who helped liberated Estalia basically did so because they were getting tired of the bullshit back home because the Empire couldn't get it's shit together for more then five minutes.

>Plus, the Empire is just shite at working together.
The "Empire" is more like nine separate nations who have an agreement to fight Chaos or whoever when they show up then a proper nation-state.
Half of the Elector Counts can't stand each other and ALL of them are constantly concerned with internal matters. Hell, Middeheim is the single largest province of the Empire and has more raw military manpower then any other (if not actually having better technology like Nuln or Reikland), but their Elector Count REALLY dislikes the current Emperor.

The main problem with Tilea and Estalia is that they were ignored for most of WH existence because muh Empire.

While you are right, the Empire has been mostly united since Magnus the Pious. If nothing else, it hasn't devolved into open civil war, and I'd argue it's a bit more than a confederacy.

>>54413940
Let's ignore for a moment that Lustria has been known to the Old World for hundreds of years now and doesn't need 'discovering.' Spain in real history was united before they even considered sending out some folks to try and colonize shit, and the New World of our reality is vastly, vastly less dangerous than Lustria, which is pretty much a jungle of death, which is also swarming with humanoid lizards that can match most encroaching armies blow for blow, and with powerful magic.

There is never going to be an Estalian Empire in Warhammer, unless you're really good at T:WW, and even then that's obviously not how it'd go canonically, just like how Bretonnia would never conquer the northern Empire and Estalia.

The Laurelorn elves arent quite as isolationist of fey polluted as the Athel Loren elves. They sometimes treat and trade with the humans, and have signed accords with them about land rights rather than just pincushioning anyone they feel like.

Athel Loren woodelves interfere with human politics mainly through magical means, such as implanted dreams and prophecies, although interactions between individual elves and humans does happen.

Depends on what edition.
The closer you get to The End Times the more blatantly elf-favoring it becomes; much like everything in later editions favors the elves the way Matt Ward favors Ultramarines.
Earlier on there's a lot more ambiguity and the Brets and Athel Loren still had border disputes and fought each other but they had a general "do not fuck with" treaty that went both ways.

The Lady was earlier on one more weird god in a setting that was full of them already, with her only really notability coming from the fact that she favored backwards technology development.
Even THAT isn't that weird since Ulric worshippers don't like guns and cannons at all and prefer regular bows to crossbows.

Basically later on the dicksucks who wrote the setting wanted there to be a "special truth" when in fact in terms of the larger setting not only was the Lady not that strange, she wasn't even particularly unique.
>>
>>54411641
>>Oh fuck off, it's a medieval-style setting. Ignoring that there were differences in treatment between the genders at all would be 'unrealistic,'
The problem is that the social treatment determined by someone being a wizard is going to be vastly more important than their treatment based on their gender. Sex being the dominant social determinator only makes sense when there isn't a biological sub-group who have the ability to explode small hamlets with their hands.
>> but the game still gives a believable amount of wiggle room for characters of both genders, even Bretonnian knights.
Funny you mention Bretonnia. It really says a lot that despite Bretonnia having very strict Gender roles, Damsels are considered completely above them. As far as Bretonnian society is concerned, Damsels are not socially considered to be "women". Because being capable of magic is far more significant than having a vagina.

It's really so much a matter of gender equality, as gender irrelevance. At least as far as magic users are concerned.

Sorry I didn't see it.

Yes unfortunately you must bring as many units into combat as possible. This also applies to multiple combats, so if two enemy units formed an L shape you would have to shuffle along so as many models were in combat.

The best way to think of this isn't that the Grand Master is being stupid but that he's being swarmed, the ogres aren't going to form an orderly queue to fight him and will quickly encircle him.

Most people generally do the maths in their head though, so regardless of where the units are you know a 5 wide regiment is in combat with 7 models of the enemy regiment should they be 7 or more models wide.

Remember to keep it morel and avoid skimmed milk.

>>

Remember though that it depends where you contact the enemy, if you're clever when charging you can preform the bonus wheel in such as way that you may be able to manage who is in and out of combat.

Best quote from WFG in a while.

Alright /wfb/urgers, to distract me from a potential cancer scare, lets talk Chaos Dwarfs. What would you have wanted to see explored about this little guys if GW hadn't dropped the ball and ignored what is demonstrably the most interesting faction in the setting?

>yfw you realise the Black Orc helmet design is clearly showing they are still under the influence of Hashut.
>>
>>54415233
But in Bretonnia's case, only women are allowed to be magic users - males with the trait are stolen away. It's not just that Damsels aren't restricted by the rules that normally restrict women, it's that they're considered representatives of the Lady (or at least her priestesses) and gives them far more leeway than any other Bretonnian female would get. Bretonnia's society is built around concepts of chivalry, given to them by the Lady herself or by those that had been blessed by her like Grail Knights. If a Damsel has the blessing of the Lady, how can anything she does be wrong? If there were such thing as male damsels, they'd probably be allowed to break any rules restricting them too.

Well, the biggest thing that always confuses me is how there can be trade east to Cathay if the Chaos Dwarves are right in the middle of the trade routes that would be required to get there. I'd be curious to see if they actually try to keep trade going themselves, or profit from it in some manner. In general I really enjoy the Assyrian/Babylonian theme, and that should be expressed more, but if someone ever took the chance to give them some vague Chinese designs and such, I'd say it'd be worth the risk of looking weird, and would add a bit of variety to the faction.

I'd also like to see the fire spirit things that they had get explored more, as well as their worship of Hashut in general. Do they have any relationship with ancestor dieties - if not the kind that the regular dwarves worship, but ancestors of their own that they treat like saints?
>>
>>54415773
Chaos Dwarfs can be traded with (they mostly want slaves) and aren't very expansionist. They just want to dig down and throw bodies in the furnaces for Hashut.
>>
>>54415655
>>If there were such thing as male damsels, they'd probably be allowed to break any rules restricting them too.
Which SHOULD be the big take-away from this. Being a magic caster or a direct representative of an actual deity seems like it'll be something weighed more heavily in terms of social standing than gender.

Because the Chaos Dwarfs don't control the entirety of the Darklands. The primary land route from the Old World to Cathay and Ind is done further south then the Plains of Zharr. As long as you avoided the handful of Chaos Dwarf mining colonies and the handful of Fortresses they have you'd mostly be fine. The Dark Lands are incredibly dangerous. But the route is profitable enough that if you manage to survive it you'd be set for life.

>>54421485
I am talking about the regular campaign battles which is the meat and potatoes of the game.
>>
>>54421163
Well ironicly, Skaven aren't that interess in other race as slave; not by consideration or empathy god no, that would be silly; but because they are greedy little jew, and that's non-skaven slave generaly die VERY quicly, and are harder to obtain than skaven one; so you know, they are not really worth it.
>>
>>54421477
well, if you are using pleb-sized armies and just rush to slam foreheads with the enemy, then sure

using max unit sized and 4 armies with actual tactics I made good use of most of the map more than once
>>
>>54421496
>not parking four armies in Kislev and wiring for Archaon to show up for an apocalyptic brawl
>>
>>54421592
I failied to make it to Kislev in time in my last game, but Archie decided to take a stroll into dwarf mountains, and so it took him ages to get back to Empire - in which time i cleared out his stacks in Kislev & Ost-places
me and my dwarf buddy made a stand just outside Castle Drakenhof, and smashed Archaon & Birdman in a massive 3vs2 battle.

here's a view of the battle itself. Most of the terrain on the map is not used.
>>
>>54421620
just because (You) don't use it, doesn't mean others don't
>>
I'm tired of using same Glade Guard/Rider and Wild Rider bodies for damn every Wood Elf conversion.
What other good sources of wood elf bodies for mass conversions there are?
I've used Shadow Warrior/Maiden Guard bodies a few times, but they are too high-elfy.
>>
so whats the actual population of elves? Ive heard people mostly say "the population of both dark/high/wood elves is however much the author needs it to be" but whats the last recorded one?

Is it something low like 100,000 total for all 3? Or was there never an official written number
>>
>>54421755

There are around 250k wood elves. High and dark have millions of people.
>>
>>54421686
The AI doesn't either.
Having 5 billion fancy tricks that the AI doesn't respond to is pretty shit. For all it's faults medieval 2's map was perfect. 4 armies fighting together would mean that you had limited rooms for maneuver.
>>
>>54421776
>4 armies fighting together would mean that you had limited rooms for maneuver
and how on earth is that good or realistic?
>>
>>54421792
because having half the empty so that you can hammer anvils is pretty shitty, not to mention that the AI has no concept of reserves. It makes a long line, bumrushes you and then you kill the AI because your cavalry was half the map away.
>>
>>54421818
half the map.
Most terrain features are minor speedbumps. Forests which were used to defend or anchor flanks might as well not exist because the combat debuffs are largely laughable.
>>
>>54421329
Are you kidding? AoS was terrible because it had no fluff, no fucking bones and a shitty rule system. But the concept of the setting (ignoring End Time fuckery) is pretty interesting.

I'd bet dollars to donuts that an AoS RPG that actually explores and expands on the setting will do better than it's wargame.
>>
>>54421862
>But the concept of the setting (ignoring End Time fuckery) is pretty interesting

Are you fucking serious? AoS setting is trash. Look at the fucking realm maps. It's a joke.
>>
>>54421862
slavrage incoming in 5... 4... 3... 2...
>>
>>54420185
These are skaven hunting dogs, so no. Big mean mastiff-derived breeds that are too stubborn to know when to know they're dead.
>>
>>54421918
maps are shit, but the ideas of realms of Metal, Shadow, Light, etc. are pretty cool. its basically Planescape redux.
>>
>>54421919
What >>54421938 said. What we've got is shit. But if C7 is given free reign, there's a lot they can do with it.

Between it and 4th ed, I'm also hoping they'll expand on alternate 'Endhammer' style continuities.

Don't worry, AoS-kun, I'm sure they'll return to your game...eventually!

No one wants th as t D&D garbage in Warhammer.
>>
>>54420625
What did it do?
>>
>>54421938
The Blood War is retarded and so is the Wall of the Faithless.
>>
>>54422139
Which is why AoS is its own thing, you autist.
>>
>>54422152
maybe, but idea of multiverse, where worlds ain't just different planets or versions of the same world is cool
>>
>>54422139
its not Warhammer, its AoS. no one's talking about it being in Warhammer, just that it can be a cool RPG setting
it only got mentioned because RPGs have same publisher

get over your spergrage.
>>
>>54421938

Dude, there are plenty of weird settings like that out there. They never, ever became popular. Ever.
>>
>>54422261
i fail to see corelaltion between "popular" and "good" in this regard
heck, Forgotten Realms is most popular setting, and its fucking WoW-level mish-mash of absolutely random stuff

I like Planescape, I like Numenera, I like Spelljammer, I'll probably like AoS RPG, as long I tune out the fact its pretending to be Warhammer.
>>
>>54422261
Like Planescape? Or whateve you call the MtG setting?
>>
>>54422185
Multiverse is the most lazy narrative resource there is, and any setting that uses it, has either run out of ideas, it's shit or is some pretentious 2deep4u crap

>>54422213
>no one's talking about it being in Warhammer
Then fuck off to your thread with your flaming
>>
>>54422335
you're the one who started flaming
we were peacefully discussing

anyone?

If you wanna talk about your World of Warcraft game, there's a thread for it. This isn't it.
>>
>>54422301
Planescape became briefly popular due to an RPG. Literally no one cares about MTG'S """"""""""setting.""""""""""
>>
>>54422439
A warcraft Total war would be pretty great.
>>
>>54422452
we ain't getting another non-HS Warcraft game until WoW dies though
so not for the next ~20 years
>>
>>54422351
Think the AoSRPG and 4ed will be compatible? Because playing a campaign through the End Times could be metal as fuck.
>>
>>54422572
why would you need AoS rules for that? you just level up enough and then go and slaughter Archaon's ass. BAM! no End Times!
or, even easier, stake Mannlet
>>
Sweet Loec, the threads are lively lately!
someone make a new thread!

I just came to check /wfhb/ and saw an autist sperging about AoS
>>
>>54421938
If I have to play another fucking game that takes place in Sigil I'm going to flip out. 4 years we had DM's do nothing out use that setting because all it does is allow Mary sue shit like "redeemed demons" and "angels in the slums" shit. Do not look at that map and tell me it's not fucking Sigil.

No. Warhammer, for all its edge, is perfect as grimdark. Stop trying to make it black and white. Even with forces of law vs. Destruction, everyone was out for themselves. That's what made heroism and banding together in the setting so climactic. Where as Sigil is just "eh, dwarves and demons just live near each other so....yea they are peacable.".
>>
>>54421731
>but they are too high-elfy.
Dude, just replace head with Wildwood ranger head.
Meanwhile, what about ranger/eternal guard.
>>
>tfw masturbating to morathi's tw:wh pic
that smug half smile makes my dick diamonds.
>>
>>54422627
Tried that in 2nd ed during the Storm of Chaos with daemonslayer character I had been playing for a decade.

Did not go well.

>>54422722
/wfhb/? Did you mean /wfbg/?

>>54422745
Warhammer Fantasy isn't grumdark. 40k is, and life in Fantasy is shitty, but it's not grimdark.
>>
>>54422783

>/wfhb/? Did you mean /wfbg/?

I'll never get the name right
>>
>>54422783
You tried to kill Mannlet? It's technically possible, he has stats.
>>
>>54422828
It's bleak, but grimdark is at least another step beyond standard Warhammer Fantasy. The end times shit was Grimdark.
>>
>>54422856
>The end times shit was Grimdark.
Shit was just stupid
>>
>>54422841
No, tried to gun down Archaon.
>>
>>54422875
Which is a good way to describe grimdark in general.
>>
>>54422877
Honestly I killed him off in my game. He's a shit character and he dies screaming.
>>
>>54422914
Who do you have as the top Chaos dog then?

Also:
>Killing off a character because you don't like him
>Rather than changing the character into something you prefer
>>
>>54423025
Doable with Mannfred, but Archaon is too baked-in shit, with too many knock-on effects, so I just did what should have happened at the end of the Storm and killed him off. Not that the Empire or Kislev made out any better.

As for top Chaos dog, right now it's no one, the title is disputed. This isn't really a good thing, since you have Chaos remnants fucking about at random, causing endless trouble.
>>
>>54422746
>Dude, just replace head with Wildwood ranger head.
sorry, i don't want fucking HE in Avelorn theme
I want normal wood elves

EG/Ranger bodies are fine, but too monopose
also the legs, torso and cloak are all part of the same 2 bits, so not easy to convert into something else
>>
>>54423207
now this is autism
>I want normal wood elves instead of elves that live in the woods.
