How often do natural disasters come up in your games? Does a famine ever cause wise spread unrest and death, or a volcanic activity mass exodus? What about a tidal wave just wiping out a major coastal city?

At best usually some "omen" of a larger probably. I've never made a game that's specifically about making a living during a plague or after a major earthquake or whatever

Look at "background events" tables from RoleMaster, as those give yearly/monthly events to help flesh out your setting and can be adapted to other genres.
