I'm looking forward to all the armies getting readjusted from how they are in the indexes. If there are 10 codices coming before christmas that means that most of the armies are going to see love soon and then we've got the early reevaluation and adjustment coming out the summer after. I think it will help keep the edition fresh and hopefully not leave us with too many problems that last more than a couple months each.

Definitely an improvement from ages past.

Is it me, or do Raven Guard tactics seem less tailored towards actual sneaky scouts and stuff, and more towards just plopping down a bunch of Dreadnoughts or other naturally durable minis? Dreads in particular (Ironclads too) can pop Smoke, so they're effectively -2 to be hit, which also means you *really* don't want to overcharge Plasma vs them (as you have a 1 in 2 chance to overheat), and you are immune to Ork or Conscript shooting for a turn.

All the Ork Boyz say it's pretty sneaky for a Beakie.

With a data tether, they've got good staying power and although their cancer guns have been nerfed against blobs, they're still assault 3 lasguns which can wound anything now and combined with the 2 damage on a roll of 6, decent against vehicles and multiwound creatures.

I'm thinking of just maxing out my arm with tons of them, essentially playing blob guard, with a few onagers to boost them to Ld 8 and shoot anything nasty in the face with neutrons.

I love how much of a rulefail Wrath of Magnus was that you had no reason to ever run him with actual Rubric Marines, and only stuck him with Tzeentch Daemons.

I love how in 8th, you can't attempt to cast a non-Smite power more than once per turn, meaning you want as good a bonus to cast them in the first place...meaning you take Magnus, and fuck the rest of his Legion. Don't forget to cover the board in throwaway Horrors to tarpit, and don't forget you can Smite into Melee, and Exalted Flamers are surprisingly decent AT, and Changeling is a Venomthrope that also works in melee.

Characters are their own unit. Sergeants are not characters. This ironically means you cannot snipe Sergeants, Heavy Weapons, etc out of a unit.

I think there's more to it than "power level", more a case of whether an army has the tools to be all-comers. GK and Orks were armies that didn't survive well in the 5e->6e rulechanges that added Hull Points, and then they lost several notable tools without proper replacements. (Orks got functional Tankbustas, at the cost of most the rest of their codex, GK got better Dreadknights at the cost of losing Psybolt Ammo, etc).

If Grav simply stunned on 6s rather than Immobilized, BA would probably have been less out to dry. Not Gladius-tier but it would have been a general boost.
