Just look at D&D, it's always the same.
It's been done to death, and is arguably the worst offender when it comes to the "old man in the tower" trope.

Like in everything else, male magics would be about destruction/construction/explicit, while female magics would be about healing/nurturing/subtle.
So females are healers, druids, charmers, etc. Males everything else.

Of course you can make a more modern setting with the 504 genders of magic and opressive white mages.
