It is a portal to another dimension that shows up in random locations. At the minute it is in some random mall car park. The being that live in this other dimension is were we get the archetype of werewolves, vampires and other beasts. The reason it is a laundrette is so these being can clean the blood off their close as they wait for the building to return to their dimension.

If you stand in the rainbow glow of the traffic lights at this intersection, a handsome man in a hat will appear.
He'll challenge you to a contest of some skill of your choice (though fiddling is traditional). If you win, then you get a golden fiddle. If you lose, then you only get a smaller, silver fiddle. Also he kills you.

Autumn House is a large, rundown brick estate somewhere in western Massachusetts. It's halls are dusty and quiet and pervaded by a feeling of threadbare, tumble-down sadness. Throughout, visitors have built small shrines in which they have offered up tokens and symbols and keepsakes in the hopes of banishing memories of loss and sadness. This can be done here, but one must be willing to pick up another's burden if one wants to leave their own behind.

The Temple of Life serves as a central hub for every seeker of forbidden or forgotten knowledge. Its centerpiece, the namesake Tree of Life was planted specifically to contain all the dangerous magiks of the tomes and scrolls stored here, which are located in a giant library under the Temple itself.

They didn't run so much as saunter vaguely agroundwards.
