There's nothing unfluffy about it. They're not going to send scouts out there unarmed without vehicular support, since a major part of their battle doctrine is being able to gtfo at a moment's notice. The mix of tactical and assault is in the fucking devastator squads and terminators, and if you weren't so focused on reeeeing over your headcanon of Carcharodons being exclusively close-combat focused you'd realize the 'devastators' are identical to tacticals because they have no special weaponry. They're there to fill two heavy support slots so I can bring the Contemptor Mortis. On the table they will play exactly like fucking tacticals. In case you hadn't noticed, Carcharodons don't get the cool rules like extra CCWs on tacticals anymore, so I can't exactly make that a big part of my army. Close combat is done with the termie blob, because I don't enjoy playing something that gets shot off the table the moment it lands. Get your head straight.

Do some research on your army first, that means fluff, rules, and prices. Don't play flavour of the month netlists. Start Collecting boxes are good value. Vehicles are good in 8e. Make balanced lists. Playing purely 'fun' armies will make you lose a lot and you will not enjoy playing. Run something that packs a punch but doesn't reek of cheese.
Lastly, have a couple of small games and see if you like it before committing to a 2000pt army.

The Greater Drone doesn't seem that good. The... ugh... Blightreaper Cannon is pretty much two Autocannons with bells and whistles but you need to stand still to shoot it well whereas the maw and the probe combine to make it not completely fucking helpless in melee. The Carrion Haunter ability doesn't help much, either. In general, it's tough, but since it's missing Disgustingly Resilient not tough enough. If it were the same cost as the normal Drone it'd be useful, but the way it is I see no reason to ever take this aside from already having the model lying around. A Predator and a normal Blight Drone together do everything this does but far better.
