But you're better spamming close range shooting units. For example, wraithguard shooting flamers twice when you kill something or scourges shooting after their nearby target got wrecked.

Looking to get into the hobby but on the fence between a couple of different factions. Is it worth waiting to see what comes along in the codices before making a decision on an army? Currently making decision between black Templars, thousand sons and farsight enclave tau.

It's weird, I like the classic marine units like assault marines, Devastators and terminators, but I'm not really fond of Tacs or scouts.

Anyone else feel that way?

A guy on dakka did well with dreads + Shadowsword and that strikes me as the right way to go. Something big to draw fire and do some titanic damage, buff it if you can, and the multiple smaller units that can do real damage but have some way of standing up to heavy firepower (His dreads had 3++ save for example)

They have Joy Bounds, that are a type of Chaos Lords (but are very different from each others. For example one of them was a mortal woman in power armor and power maul. She's pretty cool). I don't think we'll see these ones.

Then they always had plenty of Apothecaries, which sometime they call FleshShapers, because are more occupy with creating monsters and modifications than actually cure.

They have plenty of swordsmen, often described like "palatine blades but with the armor repaired countless times for countless battles". Almost every warbands have them and you see them in every EC novel, but they never got a name.

In the books they still have tacticals, bikes and raptors, so I don't think they'll get cut like with the Death Guard.

Played against a chaos player during a shadow war armageddon campaign couple weeks ago. I landed a lucky wound against his toughness 6 nurgle marine, and when he rolled the armour save, he ended up rolling a 1.

Last game I played, death gaurd player was casting his -1 to hit spell on his Knight even though it can be a <Death Gaurd> unit. Was taking disgustingly resilient on the knight and his rhinos. Was giving his poxwalkers +1 attack every 10 men in the squad (meaning his 30 man strong squads had 5 attacks each walker supposedly). I didn't think anything of it and tabled him my turn 4, it all came out afterwards.

20 or so years ago. We were in a small gaming store, only 8 regular players at the time so it was a damn small community. Sup /tg/ decided to come back here for hobby advice and here it is: I am looking to do a spectacular display level 4'x4' gaming table that can be slightly modified over the course of the game (breaching doors, breaking certain walls) but not moved or modified structurally.
The design of the board will be tall and very claustrophobic creating a kill team style game on multiple tiers.
I plan to make it look like the borderlands caustic caverns with most of the base being unpassable terrain as they will be pools of toxin forcing players to use the multiple tiers of ruins and collapsed bridges.
How would you go about this and make it look like a imperial hive world fallen to disarray?

If it were me I would look into Zone Mortalis and the terrain for it, because that's as claustrophobic as things get. Admittedly it's about battles in spaceship corridors, but since there's little to no architectural difference between Imperial cities and Imperial spaceships it would make a good start. I was discussing with my GW manager who went to warhammer fest. He discussed with Phil Kelly, and apparently the Redemptor Dreadnought is so taxing, by virtue of being tremendously big (and in line with Cawl's bordeline heretical designs), that it slowly kills the space marine inside.
I think it kinda makes sense. The leviathan turns SM raving mad, it's reasonable to think an even bigger one would kill the pilot slowly, especiallyif you consider that it's made with Primaris in mind, who were mass produced.

Been out of the loop for 3 editions, how are battle reports nowadays?

If you ask me, what hurt WD's appeal a lot was that they only use their official terrain now, making all pictures look sameish. No surprise and sense of adventure when it was soldiers slogging through wildly different creatively scratchbuilt sceneries each month, swamps, city ruins, lustrian pyramid, crazy daemon worlds, that kind of shit. But I guess it's their marketing strategy, so whatever.

IMO don't buy a knight. You're not going to play in any tournaments, if you play at all, but a LoW (despite how often you see them in net lists) don't see much table time because it ends up being a giant point crutch that you feel you should take every time and you never get room to try out other stuff. You'll learn to depend on it and rob yourself of a lot of fun.

If you're serious about playing pick up a Get Started kit or two and a box of elites and just go for it. Don't waffle around online about "one day". Spray them all grey, paint the guns silver and black, black wash the whole mini them paint the faces and you're playing.

Get a knight when you have 3-4000pts always and want a cool option for big games. Don't spam 50 conscripts because that's what people who never actually play on /tg/ say you should. Learn the game by playing and get friends with the meta in your area and have a blast.
