So I mainly run games on a group theme where every party member has to be a member of a particular organization.

How would /pfg/ feel about that style of game, everyone is required to build a character with a reason to be a member of the same government organization/mercenary company/expedition/etc. and basically throwing out the 'strange hodgepodge' style of parties. If I ran it for /pfg/ it would probably be a government organization.
>>
>>54227559
Depends on the organization. I like groups with a reason to be together well enough, but the organization has to be something greater than "tax collectors" or "thieves" to really get my motor running. Something like spec ops team? Fantasy Gestapo? We'd have to have a reason to be different classes and good at combat.
>>
>>54227559
I like PC's having connections to each other but I dislike forcing PC's to be apart of the same organization. I feel it just leads to PC's becoming way to samey.
>>
I'm starting my 2nd PF game, building an optimized zen archer. Which traits should I get (2 are free)? I thought rich parents would be good, but my GM said I'll probably find a composite longbow in a dungeon. Is initiative worth boosting? Help me tame the paradox of choice.

I'm massively in favor of it. The biggest issue in running games is believably getting the characters to work together without it seeming like a stretch. PF tends to do this with campaign feats, but I see absolutely nothing wrong with taking a stronger hand at doing it.

But I will tell you right now that /pfg/ and the cabal in particular fucking HATE that. They want the illusion that AAAANYTHING is allowed and chafe at strong direction. Expect to be shittalked mercilessly if you dare tell people what they can or cannot do with their characters in the least.

Does this look like a good profile for the "Healer Intern" I plan on offering my players (none of whom want to heal)?

https://www.myth-weavers.com/sheet.html#id=1266426

He's not supposed to fight, he's just there to heal unless the players keep him in which case he gains combat powers
>>
Question: I know nothing about Numeria's geography, would I be able to justify taking the Highlander trait for it? All I could find about it's geography was that it's mostly "windswept plains". But in the picture above that, it showed a fight in an area with craggy-looking hills, so I'm confused.
>>
>>54227584
>>54227620
I was thinking of a few ideas. It would be a government task force formed for a particular issue. You were assigned to the task force from one of a few organizations inside the government, some military, some law enforcement, some research, etc. This includes specialists brought in. What you need is a skill set related to the issue the task force was formed for and a connection to the government to be assigned.

Also the setting is roughly 1850s technology.

So, beating a dead horse I'm aware, but it never really dawned on me how bad Kineticist is, so I decided to math out a 15 PB NPC Expert with basic NPC wealth specializing with the Longbow vs a 25 PB just to compare. Imagine my surprise when I found out that the Kineticist only really "outshines" the Expert when it's burning all of its ressources to do that. Give the Expert PC wealth and PB, and it clearly outdoes the Kinet, it's not even a contest. Even with a regular Haste, the NPC stats Expert potentially outdamages the Kineticist (admittedly with a much lower to hit however)

Not only that, but the Expert gets 6 + int skill points, light armor proficiency and Good will saves, all that without ever having to track anything more than your arrows. Does this say more about how bad Kineticist is, how broken Longbow damage is, or why I should have no faith in Starfinder being balanced?
>>
>>54227798
My GM actually asked James Jacobs that in his Q&A thread and he said that Numerians actually do qualify if you're near the capital.
>>
>>54227973

If you really wanna do cool amounts of electric damage, an electrokineticist elementalist is cool
>>
>>54228218
Hmmm.

Yeah, looks a little bit shaky.

Only thing that looks off though is the 'changing things into other things' bit, since that's not a default part of creation, that's the Change Material talent.

If you assume it works as Change Material (Which it may well do, things are in playtest for a reason) then the change will only last for a round per level by default.

Also, note that it's a spell point to work with gases at all, IN ADDITION to any other SP the effect might require. So it's kinda pricey.
>>
>>54228176
>>54228218
I really don't see what's OP about turning air into a solid material when... the rest of creation sphere lets you make solid materials out of nothing?
>>
>>54228302
See that's what I'm thinking.

But looking at the ability, it does have the 'change one thing into another' line with no word on SP costs or duration or anything, and has zero mention of the talent that normally lets you turn things into other things.

I've left a note on it in the doc, but jeezus H christ is this playtest actually still going? There's comments here from november last year.
>>
So when it comes down to it, who is better:
DEX monk with Jabbing Style, or STR monk with Dragon Style?
>>
>>54228291
Put a comment in the book pointing this out, then. The authors tend to address comments reasonably often.
>>
>>54228352
Build them and test the numbers.
>>
>>54228302
combine that with the drawback that lets you only lets you alter and you basically get creation back with gas manipulation for free

Also, you're not supposed to be able to create smoke or water vapor until you're at CL5, but if you can turn air to soot or water droplets then you can just create those anyway. Unless lvl 5 is when you can create aerosols, in which case what does that mean for other colloids. Can you not create foams without this talent? Can you not convert solids or liquids into gels or emulsions?

Also, what does "harmful gasses" mean? Can you even use acidic creation with this before CL 10? Is pepper spray harmful? I mean smoke can choke and blind people
>>
>>54228334
Creation handbook has been pushed back to give the author more time to work on it. Mind is next, followed by Life.

How autistic of a pirate game would /pfg/ want? Like, do you really want to deal with rounds, articles of agreement, letters of marque and reprisal, pirate punishments such as keelhauling, whaling/slave trading/commerce in general/fishing, divving booty up into shares, pirate myths and politics?

How modern would you want it? Muskets or revolvers?

Would you want Hero Points, Gestalt or Mythic as options?

Muskets

Hero points, no gestalt, no mythic, but put it at somewhere around level 4-6. Also some enhanced version of anti-hero because as is it's too weak. Also give out hero points a bit more often.

No, I still want Sky Pirates. We were promised Sky Pirates but never got Sky Pirates.
>>
>>54227559
I personally fucking love that to death. I've always wanted to run or play in some games where everyone is assumed to be of the same organization, and get a few feats or class features to support that, or a pseudo-gestalt type game, say if you're all assassins, you all get assassin class features every second level, or stuff like that. Or everyone even plays the same class but with different archetypes and builds, like a group of cavalier knights.

There's a lot you can do with it and K think it could be really fun, but sadly many don't seem to like it when push comes to shove and they actually have to come up with real characters for it.
>>
>>54228747

If I wasn't a shit GM, I'd run a campaign that was loosely inspired by Granblue's setting with a Romance of the Three Kingdoms or Warring States of Japan feel. >>
>>54228715
Oh god, build posts for Zoans is legitimately a nightmare I'd hope to never revisit, trying to figure out what all to do with Chopper was bad enough what with having to basically invent the deer lycanthrope. With Kaku's size increase I legitimately think the only way I could make it work would be to make part of his gestalt be a Barbarian that either has an archetype or some kind of rage power that makes him size large when raging.

Something like that exists, right? I'm not out of my mind? If that does not, in fact, exist then my go-to for size increasing of the self is what I did with Luffy and go Synth-Summoner but with only self-buffing spells (and anything that could be refluffed as just being strong enough to just straight up influence the terrain)

>>
>>54228883
If I recall correctly Kaku never actually went into full Giraffe form, and in the anime I don't think he went any bigger than Large either in lycan mode so if I put him at level 8 or 9 that shouldn't be a problem with the Synth Summoner route, as I can just buy the "large" eidolon power. Going this route I can also easily buy the Reach power for a measly 1 point and apply it to his head after also buying Gore for 2. At level 9 this would consume 7 out of the 13 evolution points spent, and that's assuming he didn't spend any feats to get more points.

Heck, given how hard the CP9 fights were I might just build them at level 10 to show how strong they really were.

>game concept
>begins at level 3
>every player must be a criminal in some manner, a criminal terrible enough to warrant removal from society
>players start out having been teleported to a prison colony
>prison colony is the domain of a Void Wendigo, who acts as the warden in exchange for a steady supply of prisoners to consume and torment
>the colony is a massive number of vessels (since they are magical they range from floating castles, actual spaceships, islands, featureless orbs) floating in the void
>Void Wendigos attack anything that goes by, so they collect massive ship graveyards
>it's somewhere out beyond the edge of the Aucturn, the Stranger
>players have to participate in gang politics, numerous cell blocks infighting, avoiding the void wendigo, tribal like cultures, weird pockets of people trying to be civilized, the strange ecology that's developed, and more
>at the center of it there are the wardens and guards who ensure no one gets out

Game would be about survival and possibly trying to mount an escape.

you forgot the PCs being mwangi natives that worship Walkena and are trying to get white men out of the country.

According to the wiki, there are mwangi elves and dwarves too so the racial makeup of the group can be a little more diverse. When in doubt of who could be doing the removing, remember the 1% rule.

Anyone else have a good time running rape games? Pretty much my entire table is running barbarians including me as a gmpc and the weekly game basically consists of me (the DM), introducing a female Npc and then we all take iniative and end up raping her. We've done lots of different scenarios and one time two of the players even raped a cat that was the girls pet

That's a good idea. Maybe we'd have to find mercenaries to help us since it's a whole village. In return they'd want something. More treasure than we have from raping so we'd have to go on a quest that leads to some strange monster girl we can rape

Elaborations on the above posts.

>Monster Hunter
This game would be a higher point buy, potentially Gestalt. Some old 3.x things would be making a comeback for item crafting purposes (for example, eventually Weapons of Legacy progressions). There would be a subsystem for progressing a weapon/armor/etc based on creatures killed for example - ie. older dragons give better quality materials. The goal is for heroes to go hunt big fucking things and get big fucking rewards.

>Pirates
This would involve hero points, increasing firearm availability, and a more lengthy look at nautical travel. Government interference will be visible - via privateers to navies and pirate hunters. Inspiration will be drawn from historical piracy, whaling/fishing etc., Herman Melville/Coleridge/etc. to help round out the edges that paizo left jagged. Eventually there will be less restraints - if you want to be the Scourge of Minkai go right ahead. You want to go shack up with some Ulfen wenches, you can do that too.

>Cosmic/Body Horror
Lower/Average point buy. Potential for mythic to be involved. Potentially a test of alternative crafting system for gear. It'll likely be based in a modified Andoran. Religious inspirations may be taken - though the primary influence will be Lamashtan /Lovecraftian.

>Urban/Crime
Least special of the bunch. Averagish point buy, no additional systems. You'd start a bit higher than rusty dagger shanktown, but you're still bottom of the barrel. Your city is huge, the gangs are plenty and the full force of the law will be breathing down your ass ranging from buddy cops to the Raid/Dredd depending on your actions. Or maybe you want to be one of them? Expect convoluted storylines and grey morality abound. This is the one where you find conspiracy theories can be true. Inspiration will come from non-fiction accounts of various gangs, Cormac McCarthy/Ashbury works and some western motifs.

DSP has some stuff that doesn't full attack. Some of the POW stuff, if you choose to use it in that fashion. It's not optimal, but it can still hold its own without being optimal, honestly. Most martials are full attack types. Trip builds require no flight and mostly humanoid things to really be good, I think. I dunno. Look into Path of War.

MH>gangs>pirates>body horror
>>
>>54229907
Is there anything in particular you would like to see?
>>
>>54230046
MH is pretty straight-forward teamwork killing something much larger than we are.

With crime, it would be nice to do things like extortion, backstabbing, climbing the ladder. If we're criminals, some kind of grand betrayal in which we go out in a cocaine-fueled blaze of glory would be fitting, though if we're on the side of law, more investigations and untwisting of something more complex than it originally seems.

Pirates are pirates. Sailing the seas, taking what we can within reason, since we don't want to call down the government on our heads. Dealing with creatures of the deep could be interesting, and use of some aquatic races might be neat.

Body horro is very lovecraft, and I don't know that I like how PF does insanity rolling. High magic also kinda plays against the more "magic is fucking weird and occult and using it breaks your mind" aspects of that sort of thing, so I'd be interested to see how it's played, though I have no clue what I'd really expect.

The best part is that Andoran is practically Fantasy Not!USA, so you could have plots involving other agencies setting up shit that other agencies think are real, and the whole "This is a free country! You guys are worse than fucking Cheliax!" is a real thing. You could even make ARBAMARF a new agency that many question or know nothing about, and that many would consider the first signs of Andoran descending into despotism, etc.

Pulling from American revolutionary war/civil war tropes, the settlement/colonization era Little House on the Prarie tropes, as well as 60's-90's-era ATF/FBI/CIA shenanigans and just put it all in the fantasy world of a fledgling Andoran really does make it write itself.

It could be hilarious without being too silly, and serious without getting utterly boring. Door Kickers: The Fantasy Game.

I want to redesign how DSP's Mystic gets maneuvers, and I want to keep some element of randomness without making it totally random the way it is now. Does this seem workable...?

"A mystic begins an encounter with all her readied maneuvers unexpended, regardless of how many times she might have already used them since she chose them. When she initiates a maneuver, she expends it for the current encounter, so each of her readied maneuvers can be used once per encounter (unless she recovers them, as described below).

Whenever the Mystic meditates in order to ready maneuvers, she must divide her readied maneuvers into at least two groups, but no more groups than their initiation modifier. The groups do not need to have the same number of maneuvers, but the mystic cannot have a group containing only one maneuver. The mystic must distribute all of their maneuvers into groups.

As a standard action, the Mystic may select on of its groups of maneuvers in order to recover one maneuver at random from those in the group. Alternatively, as a full-round action, the Mystic may spend a point of Animus to select any one group of maneuvers and recover all maneuvers in that group, up to a maximum number equal to their initiation modifier (the Mystic selects which maneuvers in this group are recovered)."

This is a rough idea, but do you think it works? It keeps an element of randomness that fits the class' flavor, but also allows a player to mitigate the randomness somewhat in how they choose to group their maneuvers. There's a certain amount of strategic choices that can be made in regards to how you group your maneuvers. Also, I'm not really certain whether the standard action recovery should involve getting to pick a maneuver from a random group or getting a random maneuver from a selected group.

Thoughts?

I've done this before, because the party was a group of independent misfits that would never work together otherwise. The setup was that they had to join a guild to be treated as citizens and have basic rights, but being foreigners, they had to work for acceptance. By the time the party was afforded some freedom to do as they wanted, they had developed some common goals and understandings. Directing them is like herding cats, but at least they're loyal to one another now.

10/10 would recommend. It provides strong reason to work together and immediate goals. Especially at the start of a campaign where character development and world knowledge are both weak. Just be explicit with the players that that's what you plan to do, so they can make characters that work with the idea.

>>54227559
I think it could be fun, but it really depends on the organization in question. Even just saying "a government organization" is still somewhat open-ended, since it doesn't touch on which nation's government we're talking about and besides that there's a big difference between (just as examples) the government's police force and the government's royal guard and the government's official clergy/organized state religion.

But if you were going to ask for my opinion, a Specter (Mass Effect) or Delta Green (Call of Cthulhu)-esque organization in Ustalav dedicated to dealing with monstrous activities as covertly as possible would be swank.

>>54232214
What are you talking about? Mystics don't "recover" maneuvers as a free action, they're not allowed to use the maneuvers they readied until they've been randomly allowed to. It's not a good recovery method, it's a huge pain in the ass for both the character and the player.

Besides, having an option to regain one maneuver as a standard or several as a full round action is more standard for initiators, isn't it?

>>54232359
Are you complaining that it's too high powered or...?
>>
>>54232359
Why?
>>
>>54232335
Um, yes. If X is their total pool of readied maneuvers, they start battle with X-3, two of which are pre-chosen.
Every turn, for free, they get another one.
After they got them all, they immediately recover X-3 for free again, with another 2 nonrandom chosen at the time.

It's very good because you can be using a strike+boost combo every turn and never have to stop to recover, unlike a Bushi, who will slowly run down if they go through their maneuvers at that rate.

And no, Standard or Full Round is not the standard.
The weakest recovery methods are the ones where you use up the actions for attacking that turn, because that's a turn in battle when you're not doing your main job.
That's why base Stalker is seen as the worst, and Zealot the second worst before it got buffed to Move action.
A standard action doing nothing but recovering one maneuver is fuck awful. All initiators except bushi have that as their rarely used backup option. And it's not even random for them.

I had an extremely basic version of Monster Hunter crafting rules.

Basically, if you could harvest the corpse of the creature you just killed within one minute, you would get 1/4 of their XP reward as GP Credit for weapons, armor and gear crafting materials.

Specific enchantments would have custom requirements from certain monsters.
>>

>It's very good because you can be using a strike+boost combo every turn and never have to stop to recover, unlike a Bushi, who will slowly run down if they go through their maneuvers at that rate.

I don't understand. A Mystic has X maneuvers ready, but most of them are withheld at the start of combat. The maneuvers stop being withheld one by one, at random, but they still don't have more readied maneuvers than anybody else, right? If they use a strike and a boost every turn, they're eating up two maneuvers per turn and only getting one back each turn (until there are no more withheld maneuvers left, in which case they lose all their maneuvers and the whole system resets).

If a Mystic has 9 readied maneuvers but only starts with 3 of them immediately available, how can that be better than someone else starting combat with 9 readied maneuvers that are all immediately available no matter what rate the Mystic's other maneuvers stop being withheld?

I'm not sure what to make of this game at all. The campaign pitch reads like a Japanese visual novel. The power level is way above this place's already highly inflated normal. The tone vaguely hints that it'll be about people being bad and maybe even hedonistic, because pirates and world-ending, but gives a vaguely noble starting goal and basically bans lewdshit.

I'm guessing that this will appeal to folks who want nasuverse, though not the mainstream crowd at all. Maybe?

It's LFG time, boys. Are you a bad enough Commoner to not have your home be pillaged by orcs, burned to the ground by a rampaging dragon, or otherwise wiped from the map? Because you'd better be. You're the village now.

I just want to know the logic behind some of them. I mean, for what purpose were these houserules added? I don't think houserules should be added to the game "just because"; if you're tinkering with a rule it should be because you have a specific problem you want to fix and the new houserule is geared towards fixing that problem without causing others. I can't imagine the full list of problems he's trying to fix with all these rules. There's so many of them that it feels like change just for the sake of change.

Though, if it's true that /pfg/ really does love high powered games, I guess this is pretty potent chargen... Are these the results of the poll that was posted in the thread yesterday for rules in a pirates game?

From what I can glean, it's something about two continents (one mythological China, the other vaguely Norse?) separated by a big-ass vorpal vortex in the center, and just recently the vortex has started to subside. The party are pirates who raid the ensuing explosion in trade.

Honestly, it feels like the party are meant to be big deals in the setting due to HOLY SHIT 50 PB AND FREE PrC, but... With the given premise, it feels a little improper? You don't make a Superhero campaign with 10 PB, for example, and while the high CharGen might be appreciated to some, it feels superfluous.

Save that CharGen for Wuxia, or a Musou campaign.

>>54232614
Read the text and what u said more carefully, anon. If you have 9 maneuvers readied, you don't start with 3. You start with nine minus three ie. SIX.
Ane then at the end of three turns later, it resets again, and you get ANOTHER SIX.

Okay, I understand now how I misread the Mystic's table and description for how many maneuvers they begin with. You were right, so thank you for improving my understanding of the class. But, I would still like to get rid of the random system the Mystic class uses and replace it with something that isn't as obnoxious to use as something that requires you to randomly determine a maneuver each turn to receive. It slows down the game and neither I or my Mystic player like it. What would you advise?
>>
>>54232629
With a ruleset that complex, you really don't need to be training people how to play.

And we like text here.

An interesting replacement may be 'You start with a predetermined half of your readied maneuvers granted. Whenever you use a maneuver you may automatically recover a different maneuver that you haven't used since the start of your last turn.

It's not that hard to track the default method online though. Make a numbered list, roll 1dX where X is ungranted maneuvers, count down the result from the top of the list, skipping granted ones. Put the list on a Google doc if the GM wants to prevent cheating.

Dragon Style only works with unarmed attacks.
>>
>>54233264
Unless you have that one use-unarmed-on-weapons feat, that is. Dragon Style does not have the "only unarmed strikes no matter what" rider of Pummeling Style.
>>
>>54233122
That'd work, I guess, but >>54232467 is saying that kind of recovery is actually pretty bad and I'm not sure if I still think they're wrong. Plus, I'd like to use some kind of recovery mechanic that still feels appropriate to the Mystic's flavor.

>>54233197
So, a sort of system where you always have half your readied maneuvers available at any given time, then? Hm, but should a PoW class really be able to sustain itself indefinitely like that? I mean, that's just begging them to use their maneuvers as fast as possible because they'll recover them just as fast.

As for using the default method online, yeah, that's how it would have to be done. But doing that every turn still slows things down a lot. Really, I suppose that's just a problem with random maneuver recovery in general, though? No matter how you do it, if it's random it's going to involve the person having to roll something every turn and then go to check what maneuver that matches with and then decide if that changes what they want to do with their turn...

If I made it so that instead of getting a random maneuver you get them in a specific order chosen by you when spend ten minutes meditating to ready maneuvers, but as a trade off you start with a predetermined half of your maneuvers withheld instead of only having three withheld, do you think that would be a power increase or decrease for the class?

>>
>>54233318
By level 9 a mystic can already afford to use two maneuvers a round and never burn out. Though I suppose the constant recovery leads to problems when combined with things like abilities that let you counter twice per round.

Does rolling for maneuvers take that long when the player can just end their turn first and then do it while the next player is deciding?

Congratulations, I remember you asking about it the other day (I jokingly pushed for you to make a Draconic/Orcish halfling sorcerer because it's a funny idea).

I haven't had time to read the whole thing, but just from skimming it and seeing his reason for helping the people of Torch, it seems like he might be too unwilling to leave? Then again, there doesn't seem like there would be anything holding him back if Khonnir is rescued and the flame restored- but I don't know if either of those things are meant to happen in the plot.

Anyway, for a full caster with feats to spare I always, always recommend Improved Initiative, especially if you want to do any buffing/debuffing. You already have Spell Focus, or else I'd recommend that for any blaster mage. Hm... Spell Penetration. It's boring, but pretty much all of your Evocation spells will have to deal with SR and you'll feel better for having that bonus (especially since you're clearly planning to put debuffing metamagic on Fireball). Also, there's the fact that you can spend a Bloodline feat to get another Bloodline mutation instead of giving up a Bloodline power, so that might be worth remembering if you want Blood Intensity or Blood... Piercing? Whatever the other ones are. They're still good too, after all! Aside from that, you cooould consider Robot's Bane and Craft Technological Items, both of which would be fitting feats for your character if he's meant to be a mechanist with technical knowledge. And if nothing else, you can find a story feat you like and take that- I'm always a fan of them, personally, even if some of them are pretty bad.

Hope that helps!
