My main tip for new players is that you definitely need reliable "anti-tank" (which also covers anti-armor and anti-monster and anti-anything hard to kill with a lot of wounds)

Now in your case you are getting a codex really soon so I don't advise you buy anything until the Death Guard codex comes out, but as far as what I like, I like Havocs with missile launchers as anti-tank for CSM. Can't remember off the top if Death Guard get Havocs but missile launchers are good. Your Plague Marines can take plasma guns too which make good anti-everything these days.

There is an iOS/Tablet/Phone video game called Speed Freeks or Speed Freakz or some shit coming out. You're an Ork, you build a vehicle, guns and all that jazz, then race other Orks in their vehicles. Shooting shit up. In other words; Gorkamorka video jame.

I wanted a non traditional non monochromatic themed around all the angriest chapter's colors.

Red for Flesh Tearers, Yellow for Angry Marines, Orange because why the fuck not, and finally a little green jewel for the Salamanders, my homies that are also flaming rage-o-holics.

Reposting from last thread:

Looking for some lore and mechanics advice for a campaign I'm trying to set up for myself and two friends.

Lore: I play T'au (Bork'an), while my friends play Tzeentch Daemons and Necrons (he's thinking Sautekh). I think this could potentially work out with the relative locations of the T'au empire, the Sautekh empire, and the Hadex Anomaly. I was thinking of centering the conflict around one specific planet that had some macguffin that we're trying to fight over? As will be illustrated below, I'm considering having Tzeentch flip-flop between helping the two sides. I'm aware both Necrons and T'au don't take kindly to Daemons (last I heard, T'au don't even publicly recognize their existence), but I figure that if the stakes are dire enough, that they won't turn down somebody else attacking their primary opponent.

Mechanics: One of my principle concerns is is that the Tzeentch player is a much more casual player than the other two of us (originally chose Daemons due to high-RNG along with diverse model range). I've thought of a few solutions to this:
1. Give the Tzeentch player a handicap, such as extra points or CP, and do a standard FFA
2. Have the Tzeentch player flip-flop sides in 2v1 matches, where the single player gets bonus points (750+750 vs 1250, or something similar)
3. Play up the Tzeentch, and have them not competing with the other two for their main objective of any given match, but instead having a secret objective each game, and possibly a slightly smaller force. IE "Ensure both of their warlords die," "Ensure player A/B wins, but only by a margin of at most 3 VP, " "Ensure that each other player loses at least X units before the game ends", "At the start of turn four, flip a coin in secret to determine player A or player B. Ensure that player wins." etc. etc.

>>
>>54193459
(Cont)
I'm partial to option 3 for the Tzeentchian flavor and putting direct pressure off of the weakest player, but clearly it requires the most additional rules to make work.

As for the rest of the campaign, I really like the Grid style; I was thinking perhaps a series of missions decided grid-style with relatively low point-levels, culminating in a larger game with bonuses based on how many games were won previously? Depending on what was decided for the Tzeentchian player, they could potentially enter into this fight as a full 3-way FFA with bonus points based on previously successful objectives?

As an added option, I'm thinking about having it such that the T'au and Necrons decide their lists at the same time they pick which strategy they're using, as they have a rough but not perfect understanding of what sorts of missions they may find themselves in.

Suggestions, comments? Does this sound like an interesting campaign?

Youre going to have a hard time mixing fuscia and neon green in a way that looks intentional. Not impossible but those are colors that the human brain doesnt like to process together and not in a trippy way, it just ends up looking accidental even if your work is clean.

If you end up doing it I wouldnt make the metal dominant, if you are using multiple colors that bold you either need a legitimately recessive color like black or you need to go all the way and make the primary color unobtrusive like white. The metal will get confused.

its not the gray palette of the metallic that would cause the problems, its the visual complexity or the metallic flecks mixed with two ultra dominant color choices that the human eye has a LOT of trouble recognizing shades or depth in.

Theres a reason you tend to see those colors in cartoons or things like the light lining in TRON. Humans are very bad at actually interpreting them when they are in any real level of depth or complexity. Without going for a fully acryllic look like on tzeentch demons its going to look off to most people.

There are also no psychological connotations to that color combination other than 'rave' or 'neon' so you won't get to borrow from established learned color associations in your audience (mostly since the metallic doesn't support those inferences).

>>54193678
That seems like a LOT of protection on that Big Mek. Mega Armor and a Kustom Forcefield? It might be part of your plan, but I'd probably let whatever mob he's with soak up most/all of the fire, and not worry too much about personal armor for him.

Am I reading the list or the index wrong on Deffdreads and dreadklaws? Because the index says your first klaw should be 30, and each extra klaw should be 15. I also personally wouldn't run shootas and slugga/choppas in the same mob, I'd do one or the other. That way one mob can focus on shooting and holding and objective, while the other focuses purely on getting into the fight. As is, both mobs are flexable, but that's at the cost of being less effective at either job. You probably want to specialize.

Looks neat otherwise, and bare in mind I haven't actually gotten to play 8th yet. That's just the advice that makes sense to me.
>>
>>54193816
Seems pretty good to me. The spawn are pretty expensive for their survivability so make sure to use them smart.
>>
>>54193701
I sold my IG off in 5th edition and stopped playing until the start of this year when I started up the iron hands army I always kinda wanted to run. So I've got 500 points of guard left over that I put into my marine lists.
>>
>>54193834
The only weakness would probably be the nobz themselves, right now they're pretty bad for their cost compared to basic boyz.

The wartrakks are all really good for cost, the deff dreds seem useable, kans are awesome, and the battlewagon is pretty sturdy with the ard top. It'd be a pretty strong force, even the gorkanaut looks like it could pull its weight.
>>
>>54193834
Dope. Skorcha Nobz are incredibly efficient at shooting, and big choopa nobz are amazing at melee. It is going to be a short range army, but deadly when it gets there.
>>
>>54193520
he looks more like he's doing the John Cena "cant see me"
>>
>>54193826
Looks pretty decent to me.
>>
>>54193796
I wouldn't be surprised. They'll probably be appropriately proportioned with primaris in mind, too.
>>
>>54193871
I disagree here. Skorcha Nobz can stay in their trukks and fire 5-10 heavy flamers at a target as they drive by. Melee is more anti-vehicle focused, because melee can't stand against that many heavy flamers.
>>
>>54193851
The Big Mek is with the dreads, the Morkanaut is with the boyz, the idea was to hopefully have the entire army given kff protection at all times. Its true though that I probably could do without the mega armor, though the point increase is pretty low compared to the stat boost.

>Am I reading the list or the index wrong on Deffdreads and dreadklaws? Because the index says your first klaw should be 30, and each extra klaw should be 15.

Yeah, thats what battlescribe is doing, though im not sure the pdf is printed to show that well.

You're probably right about wanting something to stay back and hold, i hadn't thought of that. I was mixing squads so i could take the losses on the shootaz in the back but still get a round or 2 of shooting out of them before they die. Losing a slugga means i lost a model with it never contributing anything at all.

>Looks neat otherwise, and bare in mind I haven't actually gotten to play 8th yet. That's just the advice that makes sense to me.

You had a good point on the backfield holder. Ive only played 3 games so far with other armies but that does seem to be something I should think about unless my plan is to just sweep the enemy every game.
>>
>>54193901
You can get that with burna boyz wayyyyy cheaper though and the opponent is probably going to down the trukks first since theyre the easiest to kill and the largest point sink with nobz inside.
>>
>>54193945
Burna boyz cost 200% as much for the same effectiveness. Do the math on skorchas vs. burnas.
>>
So I have a question...

How do Underwater Necrons differ from your average, everyday Necrons?
>>
>>54193925
>The Big Mek is with the dreads, the Morkanaut is with the boyz, the idea was to hopefully have the entire army given kff protection at all times.
Sounds like a solid plan. Good luck out there!

Ok, is this a 7th edition list or did you mess up all the point values ?!
>notices '6CP'

An exalted sorcerer on disk is 161 points, not 163.

And I honestly hope that TDA Sorcerer doesn't mean Tactical Dreadnought Armoured Sorcerer, because not only is the point value completely wrong in that case, there is no fucking reason to take one of those when an Exalted Sorcerer on disk is cheaper and better in every single way but the armoursave ... specially when you already have an Exalted Sorcerer and a Daemon Prince in the army.
>>
>>54193958
You can get 18 burna boyz for the cost of 5 skorchas

36 skorcha shots avg vs 17.5 skorcha

against t 4 thats 18 skorcha wounds vs 12 skorcha

against armor 3+ thats 6 burna wounds vs 6 skorcha wounds

Except the burna boyz have 18 t4 wounds themselves vs 10 from the nobz. Burnas win on attacks too.

The math was wayyyyyy close than I expected, though. I had thought burnas were d6 also.
>>
>>54193994
the truth is still the truth even when it's couched in the spray paint tool and comic sans
>>
>>54193958
Burna boy
2 hits
50% chance of wound against meq
1/3 of meq failing save
14 points.

Skorcha
4 hits
2/3 chance to wound
50% pen
25 points.
>>
>>54193836
So would I ... so would I
>>
>>54193958
>>54194036

I kept saying skorcha instead of burna, left column with more but weaker shots is obviously burnas.

And I get that you cant make a squad of 18 or put 18 in a trukk, but im mostly just trying to compare gun efficacy there.
>>
>>54193991
Good luck anon, I believe in you.
>>
>>54193857
What is "smart use" of spawn? I try to stick them to cover and either tarpit a big melee unit or kill a central shooty unit like destroyers or Devastators.
>>
>>54194045
How are you getting a skorcha on a nob? I thought they could only take 20 point combi skorchas. Also, d6 does not average to 4 and both guns are identical against t3 for wounding.
>>
>>54194036
Gou are forgetting to factor in the trukks, but yes burnas on foot are better than foot nobz.
>>
>>54194032
It should be 8th, but I'm playing with points on battlescribe. I wanted to drop in a sorcerer with Warptime so the Scarab Occult could get a first turn charge, I could certinly add another Disc Sorcerer.
>>
>>54193189
for the most part I'd expect it to be finishing off moving units to plastic.

so Tyranids for example will probably just get a biovores/pyrovores 3 mini kit plus Red terror and deathleaper/lictor character blisters. which is the last of their finecast.

for now I'd expect the only new stuff to be for the new factions like deathguard.
>>
>>54193991
Check out vaporwave art for a lot of instances of that color combo being put into effect. Other artistic inspiration I can think of would be splatoon sometimes or the most recent TRON film.

>>
>>54194113
... You don't want to charge with Scarab Occult terminators. There melee damage output is fucking pathethic, it's just two regular powersword attacks each. Even their own Inferno Combi-Bolters do more damage. Even a tactical squad can bog them down for a good chuck of the game in close combat.
>>

>Don't know about vaping but apparently he pit Ferrus Manus against someone playing Necrons in a 1000 point game

Yep sounds like him. Do you happen to know if he is loaded? Pretty sure I know this guy too.
>>
Responding to anon last thread who asked about the WAAC Krieg player at the Frisco TX GW:

I don't know about if he vapes, and I'm not too well-versed in 7th edition rules to know if he cheated when I played with him, but he apparently used Ferrus Manus in a 1500 point game against someone playing Necrons, and I have been told by others that his interpretation of the rules can be very "flexible".

I haven't played 8th and I have no idea how effective any of this is. Mostly it's just rule of cool and I'm not *super* worried about competition but pointers never hurt. Half of these units are just stuff I have from 6th/7th mindset.

Now I just stick to the Round Rock store or the one in South Austin. Both of them are great and both only have 1 WAAC-esque guy that plays there, and the Round Rock one is just because he plays Ynnari and soulbursts and fields nothing but Yvraine, Dark Reapers, and Fire Dragons. The South Austin WAAC fag is just a big douche.
>>
>>54194088
That works, I just mean don't put them in a position where they are the only thing worth shooting at because they'll dissolve really quick. I like using things like that (though I run fiends of slaanesh in that same type of usage) as a damned if you do damned if you don't choice for my opponent, as I'm advancing something I do like I advance them also, like you've got your heldrake, those spawn and some smiters, and the terminators, get them all in the mix at the same time and force your opponent to choose what to shoot at and the spawn will definitely end up surviving long enough to do a ton of damage and make their points back.

Sure, if your opponent murders all the spawn better them than something important, but it can be a little hard to actually get damage with them.

Had a game today against space marines (An ultramarines successor that still used ultramarines named characters)
>I'm using DE, 48PL vs his 49(he wanted to do PL over points for some reason)
>doing maelstrom - contact lost
>he goes first
>his vindicator tank manages to one-shot my ravager with his demolisher cannon
>drop my raider to 3 wounds
>my turn, deepstrike my hellions around the vindicator, he deepstriked his librarian fairly close to my incubi/succubus raider
>assault the librarian, kill it
>assault the vindicator, it dodges every single wound somehow
>his turn, he blows up my raider
>my turn, trueborn and scourges take out his rhino
>assault my hellions into his vindicator(containing cronus), while it's stuck next to a ruin and a barricade
>it's also super close to his deployment edge
>manage to have my hellions surround the tank to keep him pinned in
>wipe out the marine squad that was in his rhino with my succubus and incubi
>lose my incubi to morale though
>have to call it after turn 3
>manage to kill the vindicator with my scourges after I hit and run my hellions on my turn
>bring cronus to 1W
>my succubus dies assaulting his primaris marines alone(I was trying to just kill enough to force and fail a leadership test for tactical objective

my final field was 2 squads of hellions(+1A squad had 4, +1STR had 3 left), 1 squad of scourges(3 left), 1 venom(3W left), 1 squad of trueborn(5)

his was chronus with 1W, a squad of primaris marines with 3.5 marines(4 but one had a wound taken), and a squad of 10 marines

score 4-2(I had 3 points, plus linebreaker, he had first blood and slay the warlord)

I fucking LOVE hellions now.

When I played against Krieg Kid, I had just started 40k. I play melee focused SM, and at the time only had around 1000 pts, no transports.

The entire time he was giving me a play-by-play of all the ways his army could kill mine. "Well because of this rule I can combine these squads" or something like that, and proceeded to spread his guys across the entire board, so there wasn't anything I could do to evade fire, in addition to other things.

In hindsight, I think he wasn't playing too fair, seeing as my list was so lacking and I was so inexperienced.

Say, would the Grey Knights ever send off detachments to serve pseudo-permanently in a danger area, or are they always the last line of 'call ICE' guys?

Like I've been considering starting an army of them for 8th, and I like the rules/lore but what seems cool would be something like a monastery of them set up around a particularly troublesome area (I was thinking on the edge of the Maelstorm or something). Only issue is I can't get a beat whether that's realistic or not, and I don't wanna go all OC-donutstell on an already dangerously sueish chapter.

I sort of commentate on the numbers, but I usually say "Looking for 3s and 4s" first number being hits and second being wounds. I'm sure it's annoying for the opponent since I do it for me as well as them. It's just an old habit from playing with a group of people who literally forgot their stats every game. So I gotta work on it for opponents.

I haven't had too much trouble with people so far. Everyone I've played against has been pretty decent at the game and personable. I would say someone who runs away all the time is boring to play against though.

>Say, would the Grey Knights ever send off detachments to serve pseudo-permanently in a danger area, or are they always the last line of 'call ICE' guys?

They probably wouldn't because they have room full of psykers reading the warp to try and predict where the next Daemon incursion would try to start. As for the list, I got shitstomped with my GK the other day and I'm at a loss. Postponing until our soon to come codex, that I hope isn't a repeat of 7th ed and possibly includes a less 1-sided version of Daemonic Adversaries, because going against armies with already strong formations becoming psykers/daemons was totally balanced for the good ol 7e GK.

Drybrush it on. It's easy to get varying patterns and intensity by just changing the angle and pressure. Takes fucking forever if the pattern is dense though.
>>
>>54194943
Actually, no. 1000 pts.
Voldus, Paladin Ancient, 4 Paladins with Falchions, Strike Squad falchions, 6 Interceptors with Falchions and a Psilencer, and a Rifleman Nought. It was my GK with buds Wolves vs Sisters and Quins. Voldus took 3 wounds from an Exorcist and failed the charge, then got Act of Faith'd by a Dominion/Retributor heavy bolter squad, the power armor guys just dropped like flies to shooting and then Celestine melee, the Nought got done in by 3 Exorcists shooting at it in 1 turn, the Paladins were surprisingly fucked in the ass by a Shadowseer. I did manage to pop a Starweaver on turn 1 with the Nought and purge soul 3 wounds off an Exorcist, though...

In 7e, it was a terminator heavy list.
>>
>>54194918

Why the fuck is a Goliath Rockgrinder (T7 10W 4+ save) 124 points with a Clearance Incinerator (12" Heavy D6, S5 AP -1 D1) and a Hellhound (T7 11W 3+ save) with an Inferno Cannon (16" Heavy D6 S6 AP -1 D2) only 101 points?

Is a few 5+ to hit s7 attacks in CC worth the tradeoff on primary weapon power and survivability and an extra 23 points? If it were hitting on 4s I might see it...
>>
>>54194959
Whats not working with the airbrush? Is your stencil plastic? Try making the stripes in painters tape instead of using a stencil. You dont really need a stencil for stripes.

My stencil is handmade with some masking tape covered printer paper. The stripes just arent coming out at all. I've tried taping down the design onto the devilfish and making sure my brush was a bit away so overspray didnt happen, but nothing I've tried has looked good.
>>

>>54194846
here..thanks anon
>>
>>54195027
I wouldnt use printer paper for that, you want a material that isnt going to blow away from the surface. Most stencils for deforming surfaces are going to be a plastic or rubber material so that they will hold firm to the objet and wont deform during spray.

Alternatively, use the paper stencil but hold the airbrush well away from what your spraying and point straight down so that the air doesn't buffet the paper but the particles still fall on it. Thats gonna waste paint and youd have to cover the entire model though.

Id suggest exploring alternative materials for making stencils. Try googling good ways to make them.

GK have prognosticators psychically find when Daemons will appear and send dudes there just before the Daemons do so they'll be ready to fight them, they don't usually do any sort of guard duty because Daemon fighting is one of the most dangerous/important jobs in the Imperium.
>>
>>54195027

You definitely want to use heavy cardstock or foam for spray stencils and that's assuming you are talking relatively flat surfaces. Rounded tanks are going to be a challenge unless you use something like frisket film. But with something like films you are basically talking a single use stencil.

Then add in addition shading by hand after you've got the primary and secondary colors sprayed.
>>
>>54195115
Thats why they use painters tape for most airbrush line work. Its a very free form talent. You can buy airbrush stencils made out of a kind of gooey rubbery plastic that likes to stick to models and I dont think theyre very expensive, but I dont know if you could get those tiger stripes.

I mean, to be fair, with the new army building rules G-Dubs has left a lot of room for allies and small subfactions. Keep in mind that there's a rules contingency for unaligned units that anyone can take. I was honestly quite surprised to see that with Kroot units all over Force Org now (and Kroot being an Alliance Keyword), they didn't include an HQ Master Shaper in the Index, and I wouldn't be surprised if Codex: Kroot, Codex: Gue'La, or even (though significantly less probable) Codex: Diggas surfaced at some point- all signs point to this edition building an alliance ecosystem for every faction.

WAAC players will do almost anything in order to win. This includes cheating, bending the rules, having shady dice, actively trying to make the opposing player as uncomfortable as possible so he plays bad etc.

A person who merely wants to win still follows the rules of engagement and common decency.

You can play to win without using a netlist. You're not running the most optimized tournament build, but you're playing seriously and planning your moves out while not taking any "useless" units in your army.

A WAACfag is the kinda guy who would take every single upgrade for his army in a friendly power level game because the rules don't say he can't, or the guy who brings a Riptide wing to a 1000 point game in 7th. Ultimately optimization does play into it, but the mentality is also another part of it. A WAACfag will try to bend rules like calling cocked dice more often, claiming he's in full cover when he isn't, abusing rules wording, etc.

I didn't really fancy Ultramarines or Tau, and the Astra millitarum seemed pretty weak.
Also, Chaos looks pretty complex to paint and I'm not that great at painting.

So I decided to make my own Chapter based on something I enjoy the look of.

My Chapter of marines will be based around "Grey Wardens." and infantry heavy tactics.

I have a 2500 point list ready and I am still planning a lot of the paint schemes, but I do not know much about writing lore for space marines. I was hoping to keep it simmilar to the core of the Grey Wardens.
That is. very effective (Or preferred enemy?) against Blights / Nurglite forces.
And some how translate the Joining ritual into the recruitment for the wardens.

Again, I am pretty new to this so I don't know a great deal yet.
Please be patient with me.

Why don't you just use marauders?

Bloody handed reaver allowed you take grenadiers and buy a pointless 5+ save for troops. Just use marauders instead of grenadiers and troops will be the same apart from you will actually get a save this edition.
>>
>>54195552
Sounds fine to me. Good luck!
>>
Heres my plan for my starting army want some feedback if possible, aiming for ~1000 points. I've played the game before but never had my own army so I'm taking it one role at a time. Used power points when sketching up the plan sake of simplicity.

HQ
Sorcerer in Terminator Armor

Troops
Regular CSM unit x2

Elite
Terminator Squad

Fast Attack
Foetid Blight Drone

Heavy Support
Forgefiend

Whole thing's just over 50 points which should be about where I want it.
>>
>>54195552
Fuckin stop what you're doing and go look up Grey Knights.

Specialist demon hunter space marines. You can't homebrew something closer to what you're looking for than them.
>>
>>54195540
Real, decent people never follow or keep up with netlists. Netlisters are the worst type of WAACfaggots, because they're not even smart enough to figure out themselves what's the best but ride the coattails of those who can.
>>
>>54195552
That sounds incredibly autistic.
>>
>>54195583
Naah, dude. Grey Knights are super wrapped up in 40k lore to the point they're a bad entry point, they're hard to play, and they lose out on 75% of the cool shit Codex Marines get. Let him do Grey Wardens for now, it'll be more fun.
>>
>>54195350
the fucking horn nipples still get me evry tiem

if I was fielding magnus I'd either go bare chest or convert something. or at least get rid of those plumb retarded horns.
>>
>>54195399
WAACs bitch, moan, bend the rules, bring deliberately op lists, and even outright cheat because winning is the fun to them.

People playing to win play gentlemanly, will put winning aside if they know they are playing a noobie and dumb it down to at least be a bit more fair, bring op lists because they have arranged a competitive gloves off game with someone else who wants to test his mettle, and takes the fun from the challenge, not the result.
>>
>>54194597
it gets easier once you get the hang of a production line - painting one or two details on all your models in a row, then moving onto the next one.
>>
Does Z still use the Ork unit email?
>>
>>54195631
You could probably cut them off and then sand the area down to be flush with the rest of his armor easily enough, but the problem would be the gaps in detailing in those spots compared to the rest of the armor.

>Why don't you just use marauders?
No hotshots, also I loved Bloody Handed Reavers because of the fluff behind it, and I liked having an elite force in my hordes. Not the mention the Marauders have a 1/6 chance to just all die when they take a casualty. I can't give my command squads carapace anymore, and the army list just feels so bland now.

Also 'Uncertain Worth' is now the dumbest rule ever made.

Pic related is why I loved my army,
fucking Khorne Space Pirates that operated like guard

Brother, there's a Space Marine chapter whose exclusive job is to fight Daemons. The Grey Knights.

Helforged Spartan Assault Tank, considering it potentially insta kills disembarking units should you ever put characters in there? Is this just another occasion that you need to save your Command Points for?

Honestly I'm thinking of converting all my fw renegades and plastic cultists into redemptionists or such... models work with it. I'm just crying inside still over how they ruined r&h... they could of just made it a gsc clone and it'd of been better...

Opinion on redemptionist plan?

You could do what I do, and just run them as guard. Or talk to your friends and do some house rulings. Personally I gave up on 8th ed so, idk.

This is the Bloody Handed Reaver fag btw

why would he play death corps if he wanted to be a WW1 fag?

WW1 IG is armageddon steel legion. death corps is straight WW2.

The difference is in attitude.

Competitive means playing to win. This means stacking the odds of victory in your favor however you can, but only up to the point of staying within the spirit of the game. To a waacfag there is no spirit of the game beyond winning.

A competitive player will likely have a finely tuned min-max list with lots of thought put behind how it will play on the table. But whereas a competitive player will have the self-awareness to realize that he's grossly out matching his opponent in skill or list potency, a waacfag will relish that position of superiority.

I guess you could say the biggest difference between the two is that a competitive player relishes the COMPETITION of a match, while a waacfag relishes the VICTORY.

The ultimate red-pill though, is that waac is a meaningless buzzword these days. People throw it around so casually these days that it basically just refers to whatever a person does that you don't like. It's better to not even bother trying to judge people with those kinds of labels- all it will do is make your gaming experience worse. You'd be better served reflecting on your actions instead. If things went well what did you do right, if things went poorly what could you do better next time, etc.
