[WHF] What would happen if the Empire join force with Brettonia?

Well, I've been playing with TW:WH with a friend, alliance with him (Brettonia). Been able to kick the Endtime in the curb pretty hard - but rookies we were, we still lost very hard.

Gonna have to be more specific. When did they join? When sigmar was still around? At some point after? Just recently? Are we just magically merging the 2 nations together into a huge human empire and assuming it was that way from the start?

After he united the Empire, beat back the Incursion, did some (if not most) of the shit he was known for in cannon, he received a phrophetic dream. Sigmar dragged his ass up and show him the effing Endtime shenanigans, and tell him that the Empire can not survive on its own. The Dwarfs wouldn't be enough. Kislev wouldn't be enough. The Elves... have their own shitfest going on.

Magnus woke up and decided to become a Questing Knight.

Magnus woke up, gathered the Elector counts and abdicated to the best one of them. Then the old man picked up his sword, his lance, less-than-fancy-armour and jumped on his trusty old Betty and rode away into the sunset.

He knew its weird, but it's the only way. The Brettonia ain't listening to anyone not a proper Grail Knight, especially when he was a foreigner.

Luckily for him, Brettonia was dealing with it's own triple Orkish-Chaos-Vampire incursion at that same time.

Bretonnia is a mostly irrelevant invasion cushion for the Wood Elves. Realistically speaking, they offer very little to the Empire.

Bretonnia is basically the Tau of WHFB. They exist to create more choice and diversity, are a pawn of Elves and should have been crushed by the Empire if not for luck and a lack of interest most of the time read: Writer's fiat and plot armor
They also tend to flip flop in tone a lot, making them another parallel to the Tau

Bretonnia would be a dead weight on the empire. They are better off being their backward nation and being culled by wood elves.

The hugh tracts of land added would be a welcomed addition, first off. Second, the buch of 'peasant meatshield', if given enough time, can be brousght up to some semblance of a fighting force. And more Knights are always great.

Less time wasted on war between the two nations would better prepare them for the ET, that's for sure.

The Cvil War everytime an Emperor dies would be much worse, however.

In theory, yes, but practically? Bretonnia is quite literally several hundred years behind and their way of thinking and faith is deeply entrenched. Trying to reform them into anything usable sounds like a political nightmare that would consume tremendous resources.

Also, the quality of Bretonnian land flipflops heavily between editions. Sometimes it's a lovely, healthy country with benign earth that can sustain peasants even with 95% tax rates, other times it's a barren shithole with most of its populace barely scraping by. Which Bretonnia are we talking about here? Because if it's the latter, you probably don't even want the land.

The existing states already have a difficult enough time cooperating with one another, and bretonnia is a trade partner/military ally to the empire more often than not.

how much of that land will be useful? A large part of the empire is forested and full of beastmen peeing and pooing all day. Bretonnia is just as backward without any city approaching talabheim, let alone marienburg, altdorf or nuln.

Brettonian peasants flock to what was The Empire in search of a better life. Leading to mass starvation back home due to nobody left to work the land, gather harvests etc, the knights are reduced to eating their horses and the whole of what was Brettonian infrastructure crumbles.
Meanwhile in what was the Empire there is massive civil unrest due to the aforementioned influx of formerly-Brettonian peasants.
