I was wondering if you can take units from different armies in the same detatchement.
In my case, I play grey knights, and wanted to include two dreadnoughts in my army. However, I think paying 17 points for them just so they can have a 12" 1 damage smite, which is kinda useless when I'm equipping them with Lascannon/missle launchers.
Is there anything stopping me from just using normal, space marine dreadnoughts instead of the grey knight ones? Could I fill them in the madatory elite slots of my grey knight vanguard detatchement? Since both units have the keyword Imperium, shouldn't it be legal? Does this mean I could also grab any Imperium unit I want and tack it onto my existing force?

This thread makes no sense. What you are asking for is not trickery, it does have nothing to do with the wu-tang thing meme. Nonetheless, such questions belong in /40kg/.
You deserve no reply.

yes, you share a Faction keyword. the only disadvantage is that your GK characters will probably not buff them.

If they all have the imperial keyword, you can have the "imperial" keyword define your detachment RAW. Granted, this is stupid, and most people I play with would not accept this unless you're using it to include inquisitors, custodes, or assassins in an otherwise one "true" faction keyword force.... however, if all you're doing is using it to field non-psychic dreadnaughts in a GK force, most people I know wouldn't object to this.
