You're exactly the sort of person that drove me out of my dying 40k community during 6th edition and, unsurprisingly, the cancer killing 4chan.

>Guard Dog - While this model is within 3" of its warlock/warcaster and isn't knocked down or stationary, its warlock/warcaster gains Parry and +2 DEF against melee attack rolls
I take it a caster loses those benefits the moment they leave that 3" bubble during their advance?
>>
>>54148470
>>54148470
Yes, I would go with that too since it reads like an aura.

But keep in mind that for free strikes, it's only relevant where you are positioned at the time the free strike takes place, not where you end up afterwards. So if you are within 3" while your advance is interrupted by the free strike, you will have Parry. It doesn't matter if the end-goal of your advance it outside of the aura.
>>
>>54148737
And on second thought, the small on/off aura makes perfect sense. A bodyguard attachment is there to help get your 'caster out of combat, not to magically deliver them deeper past an entire front line.
>>
>>54148879
Right, which makes it super valuable to casters who want to get further up without having a worry. I can't recall right away if Garryth has parry or not, but I'm pretty sure Ravyn and Thyron don't.

>>54148271
54148201 sounds like a dickhead, but you seem to be confusing 40k with AoS when it first launched. At that point in time AoS did have those silly rules.

>>54149200
AoS has silly rules, 8th ed 40k just has monstrously boring rules. I've played 40k and Warmachine quite happily for years, but 8th's finally pushed me into focusing on Warmachine full-time. The units just don't do anything interesting, you've got so few options on the tabletop now. Just small passive buffs/nerfs and a dumbed down Deep Strike. In Warmachine, I like being able to look over my cards and see how the abilities there can be made to interact, and use those to unpick whatever problem the opponent has presented me with.

And that's before I even get started on the atrocious bastardisation of the fluff and art which drew me to 40k in the first place.

Fuck it, people can whine about mud ded gaem, Soles' incompetence, and PP's lack of business acumen all they like. I love this game. I like the gameplay, I like the world it's set in. I even like the silly, comic-booky art style.

Time for me to reveal what a fag I am by....
Also saying I really like the game. Its solid, and only improving.

Even trolls will get some lovin, and so will skorne by years end.

Btw here is a simple painted mechanic, not sexy but no pit crew is
>>
>>54149200
Scary Gary is already kitted up to jump lines with Parry and Acrobatics, but I'm eager to see what Thyron can accomplish with an ARM20 Shield Guard watching his back.
>>
/tg/ seems to mostly be Skorne players and they haven't had anythibg new and there's only so much they can complain about.
>>
>>54149287

Our area has pretty much quit Warmachine for 8th edition and Infinity.

I has a sad but I understand, Mk 3 was such a disaster they just left.
>>
>>54147783

Heavyless Skorne isn't rare at all, anon. Nobody plays skorne so the the difference between "what everybody knows about skorne" and "what people that play skorne know about skorne" can get pretty big about some things.

>for instance, Winds of Death is awesome
>>
>>54150049
It was the opposite here. We've gone from 6 full-time 40k players and three 40k/Warmachine players, to 2 full-time 40k players and the rest completely abandoning it for WM. People drifted back to 40k after Mk3 dropped due to the bungled release, but now that PP are pulling themselves together and GW are intent on driving away anyone who wants their games to actually be proper games, Warmachine is coming back in a big way.
>>
>>54150743
>Warmachine is coming back in a big way.

Nah anon, maybe in your meta but as someone that helps organize WMW and RMR, it's drifted down.

Not end of the world, down numbers...but definitely down.
>>
>>54147783
That's how Skorne is played. Surprise surprise.
>>
>>54150863

Collecting data for both lists in the pair can give you the wrong idea, though. My pairing always seems to end up 2/0 heavies these days.

Heavy skorne is a thing, but sometimes they'd best get out of the way and let supported warrior models get shit done.
>>
>>54149287
>Fuck it, people can whine about mud ded gaem, Soles' incompetence, and PP's lack of business acumen all they like.
That's the attitude held by most people who actually play instead of just whining on the Internet.
>>
>>54149333
It's comin along quite nicely anon. Wash and highlights and that guy's good to go.
>>
>>54149697

>>
>>54150743
What did they fix?
Our local group has been completely dead ever since they ended the Press Ganger program.
>>
>>54148470

that's how it works on nephalim protector. it also starts when you enter the bubble so you can move the thing 3 inches for where you would take a free strike and have parry when your caster gets there
>>
I heard Children of the Dragon was getting reworked, but I can't seem to find anything concrete.
>>
>>54151549

yes it allows character nephalim now

it's in the battle engine errata
>>
>>54151070
No, even through MK2 there were a disproportionate amount of posts about Skorne list building and warlock discussion, and not all of it bitching either.

I would say /tg/ skews more to Skorne and Khador just from what I've seen. I know there was a survey at one point that seemed to make the factions looked fairly balanced, but I know how shaky 4chan surveys are.
>>
>>54151561
That's kinda neat I guess. At least you can run Abby or Thags and still have two heavies, but I don't know if that's enough to give a shit.
>>
>>54151605
abby and thags can both run 3 heavies. and don't forget the theme gives all nephalim unyeilding. Thags1 brick actually looks pretty sweet
>>
>>54151636
I forgot about Azrael. That's actually pretty neat then. I might have to pick up him and dust off some of my Nephilim.
>>
>>54151666

yeah azreal with him is really fucking good. 2 pow 19 range 10 attacks on a 12 22 serpentine heavy

and you can include bfs in theme
>>
Are there any fun, competitive Cryx lists? Not spam lists.
>>
>>54152740

I've found that people that actually play the game feel this way and people who don't just complain endlessly on the internet
>>
>>54152935
Hard to say. I haven't played against our local Cryx player in some time. But it's safe to say it should include some Stalkers.
>>
>>54151434

Yep, throw my hat in the ring here too...the PG fiasco caused the one local PG we had to say fuck it and he just quit playing miniature games all together. Sold his exclusive mini for 30 bucks and said adios.

Since then, once every 3 months or so some guys host a game night at their houses. One game of WM is played usually, then on to board games.

Since then, they've went exclusive forums which are cesspits of CID whining and Facebook groups. Their social outreach consists of employees making bad jokes on twitter. Not sure wtf they are thinking at this point.

>>
>>54160431
A resounding "meh".

I like the idea of publishing game updates regularly in it, though.
>>
>>54160187

>>
>>54160431
It's cool, but it's unfortunate no one will ever use the scenarios or terrain. All Steamroller all the time
>>
>>54150049
New player here, why was Mk III considered a disaster?
>>
>>54161398
Depends on who you ask.

The game is better than the previous edition but they bungled a lot of the release and communication post release. They've gotten better since then and things are set to start improving but a lot of people are bitter about it and like to bitch and moan.

Some of it is justified, a lot of it is people just taking a piss and being shitty. Mostly if you play the game you'll find it to be a lot of fun. If you just lurk on Facebook or /tg/ you'll find that it's litterally the worst thing ever created and PP will surely be closing down any day now.
>>
>>54161452
So if I lurk it's 40K and GW? And I'm actually selling my 40K and getting Warmachine, rules seem way better and I've always loved the models. Mostly been playing Infinity for a couple of years now.
>>
>>54161489

Rules are solid (the rules getting cleaned up is the best thing about there being a mk3), models to taste.

40k is like the ultimate beer and pretzels game but terrible for competition
>>
>>54161602

Ehhh... Maybe locally but the Warmahordes community on /tg/ is pretty terrible. Like one of the worst you could participate in

No comment on 40k, they seem like nice guys though

So I own a building downtown in a small city about 20 minutes from a college town. The previous tenants just closed up shop and the closest game store with a play area is about 45 minutes away. Would it be worth it to open up a flgs?

>>

Depends in why you mean by 'worth'. A game store is rarely something you do to make a profit.
>>

>>
>>54161807
>>54161776
I dunno. /tg/ generally has a more positive attitude to the game than, say, Lormahordes.

/tg/ will generally try to find positives in new releases and make up fun lists and treat the game as a game.

Outside of /tg/ communities anything that isn't immediatly top tier is considered trash and they focus on the SUPER SERIAL COMPETITIVE TOURNAMENTS ONLY GAME

Wew, can't a lad go to bed without having the Powder Keg explode?

This was the matchup. Circle picked a side with two walls and I got turn 1.

After typical maneuvering from both sides, everything was outside of my threat ranges (including walk 6" and look into stealth 5") turn 2 except for some Ravagers, which were deployed on a flank and I wasn't too keen shooting at with the prospect of getting Vengeance-charged and feat bringing the 2 or 3 dudes back I was in range of shooting. I tried blasting away some shit with the mortar and rockets, but I either deviated too far or corpse tokes were spent to prevent damage, so I only killed one witch or something. So I moved a bunch of shit forward and sacced the marauders to bait the warpwolves forward.

Circle Primal'd both wolves, smashed the marauders and got forward with most of his shit. The riders ran and blocked off a Juggernaut and most of a Winter Guard unit. On of the death wolves was close enough to eat his way through 5 winter guard dudes and stand in the middle of my army with a token.

My turn 3 and I finally got shoot a bunch of shit. Vlad tried to kill the wolf with the big axe, but somehow hitting a 7 with 3 dice on 4 tries was too much to ask. The Juggernaut smashed some riders and other juggernaut killed two wolves and a Ravager. A bunch of Rocketeers shot the Pureblood to death and the rest attempted to kill of some stuff, but Signs&Potents doesn't scale greatly against DEF 16.

The game ended over the course of the next two turns. The Ravagers wiped the Winter guard Unit that attempted to shoot some of them and made the Juggernaut explode afterwards with all the corpse tokens they got. The Nightwitch ate 11 models or something and I lost with one Juggernaut, Vlad, 3 Rocketeers and Jozef on scenario.

Overall, this was just miserable to play against, because everything was DEF 16 the entire game and/or had stealth. Field gun was useless, because lolSatyr.
>>
>>54163751

I didn't say /tg/ weren't autistic enough to fall for it.

>>
>>54169735
Honestly, no. The best thing about it is the War Wagon is the Pounder and if you miss with that, then all you really get is a piddly POW 12 spray and some mediocre melee attacks.

Not to mention huge bases present movement problems, especially in a medium based army.

The final week battle reports for it mostly tell the same story. Even after all those buffs, it still just isn't that good.
>>
>>54169713
For the northkin theme. Its the hooch hailer. Imposes stumbling drunk, and throws exploding flaming booze barrels.
>>
>>54170030

>>
>>54170063
The Carriage guarantees craters, the Quake Pounder guarantees nothing. Also, the Carriage has two AOEs to the Wagon's one.

Also, Carriage has more armor. The Carriage is just generally more useful.

I haven't seen a single Retribution list that had anything less than a pair of Arcanist Mechaniks.
>>
>>54171666
How do I kill the stone if my list is melee troops with a smattering of single target jack guns? I can pick off two ablative dudes a turn max if I can get LoS after my infantry jam up into their beasts.

Thank god, I hope you drive yourself out from every community, thin skinned faggots are the cancer you speak of.
>>
>>54172901
It wouldn't be a problem if the support didn't differ in quality dramatically.

>Shifting Stones
Not mandatory by any stretch.
>Krielstone
>Beast Handlers
More expensive than most, ineffective early game against a lot of things. They feel like part of your beast that was taken from you and held to ransom for points owing to how your army is just so much weaker without them.
>Shepard
Incredible just because it's 1 point. Every other Hordes faction brings a Gobber Chef and has to put up with whatever it can do.
>Choir
Straight up hard counters a LOT of shit. You can't pick a gunline against Menoth because of this hardcore bullshit. Then when your jacks are going in they get increased damage, as if what you were already getting wasn't good enough.
>Journeyman
And here we have the king of bullshit. The Journeyman is not a mandatory inclusion for any other reason than how phenomenally powerful it is. It should not have Arcane Shield. Straight up. Hordes players are taxed to the high fucking heavens for fucking awful animi they don't even want, and Cygnar gets to pay 4 points for fucking Arcane Shield. My GOD.
>>
>>54172901
Shifting Stones are pretty situational now.

If there's any mandatory buy-in for Circle, it's Standing Stones.
>>
>>54173372
I got tired of Little Timmys 1, 2, and 3 crying for daddy to buy another three Ghost Arks/Vendettas/Wave Serpents for them because they weren't winning tournament prizes EVERY month yet and talking like they were big shit when they finally had their untouchable spam lists together.
Children hate metal models and rules that force them to plan out turns, so I've been enjoying myself a lot more since I made the jump.
>>
>>54173473
If you think Handlers are ineffective and Shepherds are incredible, you're bad at this game.
>>

>Hordes players are taxed to the high fucking heavens for fucking awful animi they don't even want, and Cygnar gets to pay 4 points for fucking Arcane Shield. My GOD.
There's a thought. What if animi were optional but cost points? So for example a Titan Gladiator could cost 13+2 points, the 13 being a base Gladiator, and the extra 2 points being Rush. A Mauler could be 14+1 points. You could make some mandatory so for example a Woldwyrd could be 9+0 points.

>>54173544
Handlers are dead points and a liability in the early turns. I've lost them to blasts drifting out of fucking nowhere before. And I'm not saying Shepherds are incredible, I'm saying they're a 1 point model that can actually do something relevant. Being 1 point at all is a big deal in listbuilding.
>>
>>54172901

legion has no mandatory thing but Id say forsaken are more common than shepherds
>>
>>54172901
Skorne actually needs a Titan Gladiator as well. Or a Krea. Speed 3/4 really sucks. You either need to buff it via Rush for 15 pts, or Paralytic Aura for 7 pts if you feel you can tank the ranged fire coming in.
>>
>>54172901
Convergence and Corollary, I guess? You can do it without the Corollary, but it's a lot harder.
>>
>>54171666
>Everythingis+2armorbecausenoonecankillthestoneandtrollsalwaysneedtopay12points

Well, yeah. Not if you play your stone correctly. It's the most important model in your army, treat it as such and it shouldn't be dying.

Side note, never pay more than 9 points for the stone unless you just have 3 points to burn for some reason.
>>

...Sigh. Play BETTER, anon. That's inexcusable. You have 6 inches to work with, maybe as much as 9. Multiple bodies. Shepherds don't make it to the end. Handlers do.

Hey, I'm trying to get back into the game with my roommate after taking a 3 year break. I currently own Circle and Scyrah models. My roomie has Menoth, Cyrx, and Everblight. What are some lists to try with each of these. I'm looking for some 25 and 50 point lists. I have Wurmwood, Kaya (wild?), and Kromac the Ravenous for Circle.
I have Dawnlord Vayros, Kaelyssa Night's Whisper, Ossyan, and Ravyn for Scyrah.
I'd post what I have for models but I'm not at home to look what I have exactly. I am also willing to try out any other casters/locks.

I don't need list for my roomie. Just some help with mine. Gotta try to remember how to play again.

They don't NEED them. They just happen to be crazy good and also free.

Can't remember when I last played it. Skorne heavies are approximately the second worst part of the faction. The worst being Cataphracts of course.

The fact that you didn't assume I was paying 6 + Elder tells me to not take advice from you concerning Trolls.

And your stone can die, even when you play well bud. Other players are smart too and it's not unkillable---and at some point in the game, it will be exposed a bit more than you want due to Fury load/scenario/etc.
>>
>>54175885

...Unfortunately not.

Ok, if you aren't using animii to any meaningful extent I can see how you would think beast handlers don't earn their points throughout the game.

Ok, look anon. Warjacks are better at being warjacks than warbeasts are at being warjacks. By a lot. That's always going to be true. Maybe you should try Khador, or something.
>>
>>54177056
I'll take a look into that. Also I heard mk3 changed a lot of things so I'm pretty sure a lot of my cards are useless now. Is it better to just print your own cards to keep them updated or did they just get of them all together.
>>
>>54177311
Your old cards are completely useless
However, they are now online for free
http://cards.privateerpress.com/
>>
>>54177311
All of them are outdated. The edition change came with a full update of every card (of course some with more and some with fewer changes) and there have been errata since then.

I'd say you have two options:
1) Buy warroom. It's expensive, but worth it if you plan on playing a lot.
2) Go to cards.privateerpress.com and print your own cards. The rulebooks are also somewhere on the PP site. Only theme forces are not available online, at least officially.

Winter Argus
Argus
Wold Guardian
Gorax
2 Shifting Stones
Stone Keeper

Sphinx
4 or 5 Arcanist
2 Mage Hunter Assassin
2 Heavy Sniper Teams

Mercs:

Also it seems I still had a mini Cygnar list. I remember using it for quick 15 point games. However it was before Gobber became an attachment.

Major "Siege"
Squire
Defender
Charger
Black 13th Gun Mage Strike Team

>>
>>54181909
The starter boxes are a pretty good way of testing the game out without investing too much money in it, so it shouldn't be too hard to convince a few other people to give it a shot. You get a caster and about three Beasts/Jacks plus a rulebook and other bits and bobs for around £30, which is very affordable.

Even if you don't want to buy the standard starter boxes, the core rulebook(s) (https://files.privateerpress.com/allnewwar/Prime-Digest-Rules-2016-v2.pdf http://files.privateerpress.com/allnewwar/Primal-Digest-Rules-2016-v2.pdf) and the individual rules for each faction/model (http://cards.privateerpress.com/) are FREE.

Then there are the youtube tutorials, which actually explains how the game works in good detail. If you want to hook friends, just tell them to watch one of these videos.

Bane Knights are the first line of offence.

This was the same problem I had. There's just so little rules support for anything that doesn't involve fighting. You can't play a smart, non-combat orientated scholar or anything of the sort. It's a crying shame since the setting is amazing, there's so much scope there that I'd love to explore, but the game only cares about dungeon crawling.

>>54197279
>Can someone red pill me on Bane Knights?

Reasonably costed and tough as nails if you bring a Wraith Engine (you're bringing a Wraith Engine). Use them to protect your Bane Warriors and Warcaster on the way into the enemy, then go to town.
>>

So I'm guessing I'm going to have the same plan every game

IKRPG is fun if you treat it as rpg lite. You need a lot of house rules to make shit work. (Dumb shit like letting any unleashed class that can also pick a warrior be a Kriel Champ instead, because the warrior class in Unleashed blows) It's all about combat so just keep the story light.
>>
>>54197436
>This was the same problem I had. There's just so little rules support for anything that doesn't involve fighting. You can't play a smart, non-combat orientated scholar or anything of the sort. It doesn't really have rules to support dungeon crawling. The combat is too stiff for it.

Really the Iron Kingdoms were adapted from D&D 3e and they actually work really well with D&D 3e.

It requires some houserules and using a alternate magic system like Spheres of Power, and Spheres of Might.

Generally, then to make a story pick a Character level and stick to it. If you want epic stuff, go something like 10-15 and play warcasters or characters like Vinter, you want something lower play a "Solo" and stay at like Level 4-6

Works surprisingly well.

I mean Fire Eaters getting looked at is probably bad news for Trolls, isn't it? They're currently pretty strong -- I don't see them getting stronger.

Not necessarily. It could be "Should we make these weaker?"

It depends on how overpowering they are.
>>
>>54203590
Ehh, they need you to bring a Pyre Troll or play Horgle2 to get recurring value out of them, they can in fact die to the fire if it spikes, and that makes them either restrictive for the points you pay or much more expensive, functionally. I think they'll be fine.
>>
>>54203531
They could just adapt them a bit to avoid any weird interactions with new/changed models. I can't see them nerfing Fire Eaters.

Thanks anon. I was thinking of having as little in the way of support possible, just having a simple assassination game with beat em up units. Here's what I've got for lists so far. I plan on building both and then letting him choose which one he wants. Here's what I've got for now, feel free to call me a retard and make new ones:

Malekus
-Castigator
-Repenter
-Revenger
Daughters
Cleansers (max)

Kreoss 1
-Reckoner
-Templar
Errants (max)
Flameguard (min)

Both simple casters that are fairly easy to use but with spells should he wish to be adventurous, good simple units with their own strengths and weaknesses, but everything will still greatly benefit from their caster's feat.

My big problem with the faction is that it doesn't look like a "faction" without conversion works.

Design themes are so fucking all over the place.

Just for some clarification, my theory on this is that if we begin with units that just hit well and that's it, it'll give him enough of an idea of how the game works to then take a look at some of the support units and be like "oh that would have been really helpful, I wanna use that next time!"
We're both big in 40k and he gets super into strategy and whatnot so I think this is a good way to go. I'm also a little drunk right now so please tell me if I'm being an idiot.

Just mildly Rambly.

Good selection of stuff and your idea is good. Next time you play you could "Upgrade" with points allowing to slowly expand support and army lists.
