Pathfinder General /pfg/

Elf bullying edition
Friendly reminder to bully the elves in your party by rubbing their ears
>It is also worth noting that all elves’ ears are about as sexually sensitive as breasts, and a great deal of elven foreplay centers around them. One intimate greeting among elves is rubbing ears.

The tips and upper edge of an Elf's ears are extremely dense with nerves because they're meant to be nibbled on during sex, as a means to induce further pleasure and strengthen the bond between partners.

Long-lived races are generally monogamous, and few are as long-lived as Elves. This means they're built towards an almost obsessive bond with one person.

Depends on the content available to you. Are you singleclassed or gestalt?
Promethean Alchemist||Hedgewitch could net you 5. Your actual character, The Homunculus, an Animal Companion, a Conjuration Companion, and a familiar. Hedgewitch alone can account for 4 of those.

How is albinism viewed in Golarion, or even among different ethnicities? She might be seen as anything from lucky to cursed, depending.
>>
>>54122243

Multi attacks, perma haste, some of the counters are too strong
>>
>>54122269
Hey, I wasn't the one who jumped to t. posting first.
>>
>>54122287
My understanding is that most places view it as a health concern, but makes the person more visually interesting/exotic.

since 'health concerns' are the realm of gods and creatures of pestilence, it'd largely be viewed as a curse by most countries that don't specific have albinism as meaning something special. Said special thing might ALSO be a curse, since in Japan for example (and thus the stand-in for Japan in golarion) it represents someone who's close to death.
>>
>>54122243

All of the disciplines that are too strong are basically because of multi-attacks. Although the multi-attacks on their own are not all of the problem. The other part of it is that some of the boosts last all round, and some stances add ridiculous amounts of damage.

So you can have a level 4 character making 3 attacks a round with a twohander and adding a boost to all of them. None of this is even hidden too, if you're paying attention why wouldn't you take multi attacks?
>>
>>54122347
In my opinion, it's the stances and damage boosts that need to go, not the multihits. Stances like primal warrior offer basically nothing besides damage, when they would be the best mechanic to add out of combat utility. I do wish that there were more boosts that gave effects that were at best indirect damage bonuses and lasted multiple turns like time skitter. Time skitter has a really nice feel to it with wanting to maintain it, but also wanting to use counters, other boosts, and class features. More boosts need to promote a decision and opportunity cost of using.
>>
>>54122394

Time Skitter does not have a nice feel to it. It lasts long enough you'll at most need to refresh it once, at later levels you'll likely never need to refresh it.

Multi hits are okay but they need to not come before iteratives.

I agree on stances though, they need to just get removed. They're not interesting at all, just "pick your passive bonus"
>>
>>54122269

It's still small time compared to my big dick wizard.
>>
>>54122460
I think time skitter might be a little too long. Perhaps a 2 round duration would be best.

Multi-hits before iteratives is a bad decision on DSPs part, but I don't think it's a complete disaster, honestly.

The biggest thing with multi-hits is that they're basically the only way to remain competitive with 1pp martial chargepounce builds, and PoW doesn't actually have that much utility beyond some senses, movement types and requiring a high-ish mental stat. The big reason I even play PoW is because the 5 ft step + full attack / charge paradigm of 1pp is boring as hell. I frankly don't give a shit if PoW can literally run circles around the 1pp guys and do the same damage. 1pp combat is slow and grating. What I do have an issue with is the damage of the stances and boosts being so easily exploitable on top of the multihits allowing for 150 dpr at 5th level.
>>
>>54122292

You're going to have haste on during fights anyway unless your group is complete shit or an all caster party.

All it's really doing is removing an item tax that every martial has to suffer with.

If you can't handle a shitload of attacks from one character in a single turn you're going to be extremely ass hurt about core PF.

>>54122347
>>54122460
>some of the boosts last all round, and some stances add ridiculous amounts of damage.
>stances needing to be removed

Boosts and stances being anything but utility feels pretty bad, since you're forced to pick between "do cool thing" or "do more damage". Removing stances seems like kind of a dumb idea, because having a passive ability you can toggle out IS inherently cool, the problem is just that some stances are straight up "bigger damage numbers" and that's the realm of "practical and optimal, but boring as sin". When your choices are "Get Scent that can detect incorporeal creatures", "generate infinite ammo", or "do +initiation modifier damage", the choice is obvious.

>Warder

>>
>>54122644
I'd actually make a case that minute hand is one of the boost that actually can be a bit more in-combat utility. It can be used as a pseudo-quicken on other standard actions. Say you're a warpath follower, you could cast a spell, move, and still attack. To me, working the action economy is a lot more fun from a playing the game standpoint than just "+2 to attack and damage on all attacks this round"

>>
>>54121973
In all honesty, Leonard is more likely to -be- courted than to actually court anyone. His mom might have been a paladin of Shelyn, but he basically came to Mendev with only one thing on his mind; Sending the demons back trough the Worldwound. Although, it'd be kind of adorable to see him get involved with someone. Would probably help him cope when he finds out he has fiendish blood too.
>>
>>54122860
I want to see Leonard awkwardly courted by Sappy-sama's slender small-breasted Shelynite slut!
>>
I've got 2 traits and a drawback pretty much set in stone for a character:

>Pride (Drawback), because it fits.
>Outcast, because he was always and outcast, which became more and more pronounced the older he got, much due to his pride and headstrongness. Also, I needed to regain Survival as a class skill.
>Tusks, because i really want tusks, even though I can't imagine it being used much.

But I'm not sure about the last Trait. I'm considering Dominator, for +2 Intimidate for Dazzling Display and such, but if anyone has ideas for something more interesting or simply cooler, I'm taking ideas.

Weird question:
Our GM wants to run a superhero game using PF, 1pp for now. 25 point buy, can't dump stats below 10, and one stat (whichever we want) becomes a 14. 10th level.

So I want to be either DareDevil like (which I found a build to play a blind monk) or Spiderman like, for this one of the other players recommended me Vigilante class, I don't know much about PF so, how can I build Spidey?

Seeing Path of War discussion happening, but I'm curious if anyone has mixed Spheres of Power and Path of War in their games.

For those who don't know, SoP is an alternate magic system that lets casters spend "magic talents" to gain basic at-will magic abilities, and refine those abilities and augment them with finite spell points. It does away with some of the biggest offenders in traditional magic, but allows for some potent combinations.

It seems like combining those systems would result in some pretty weird shit, especially both systems in one character.

I kind of want to try it.

Here is Dreamscarred Press's malefex, a 3/4 BAB, 6 base skill points, Wisdom-based class.

The malefex has somewhat of a unique playstyle. It spends swift actions to toss around at-will debuffs upon enemies, and then uses standard actions to attack and full attack with weapons. (Please do not use this class as gestalt bait.)

From a cursory inspection, a malefex looks roughly on par with a combat-oriented inquisitor or occultist, but I could be wrong. Does anyone think that an optimized malefex might be stronger than an equally optimized inquisitor or occultist, or weaker?

My main complaint about the malefex is that it has little in the way of noncombat utility beyond the 6 base skill points, the ribbon class features, and the ability to spend knocks (i.e. class talents) on noncombat utilities. A malefex lacks cantrips. The maledictions offer little in the way of noncombat utility, although there is the cheesy trick of using Steal Talent in bag of rats style to gain a constant +2 circumstance bonus to all skill checks.

For that matter, is anything stopping a malefex from constantly maintaining Steal Stamina and Steal Talent on a familiar or a similar pet, thereby reaping the benefits at all times?

okay, reasonably speaking how shitty is this:

They fight a lvl 4 vivisectionist. I let them level up before the boss battle so they go in with higher stats.

However, before they go in he chugs an invisibility extract and a mutagen. When they show up he waits for them all to enter then lights a smoke stick and goes to town sneak-attacking for three turns

It goes one of two ways: Either they will disperse and not enter that room until smoke and invisibility are gone or they will lose one or two party members to the sneak damage alone, assuming that the enemy hits.

I'd say either the smoke stick or invisibility alone is enough, unless you trust your players to be at the top of their game and have good luck.

I think that both of those responses were classy and reasonable. I mainly take issue with the implication that a good-aligned god can't have flaws or prejudices; I have a feeling a lot of my Good deities wouldn't fly in Golarion.

So my memory is rusty and bare with me: But there's a gold dragon in Golarion who is running an island utopia, and only invites the smartest and strongest and most beautiful humanoids to come live there, right?

Well the freelancer who actually wrote that bit was talking about it, being like, "Yea, I included this and that detail implying that he might be sinister, so you can use him as a badguy if you want, but you can also run him straight as a Lawful Good gold dragon, using peaceful methods to improve the lives of lesser mortals".

A few people responded, and the responses were basically, "Good job, you know how to design".

Then one of the devs, I think it was Jacobs (or the other guy with a t-rex avatar?) chimed in to explain that eugenics is DEFINITELY evil and that the dragon is DEFINITELY evil, and you as a player can do what you want but as far as the Official Setting is Officially Concerned he's Officially Evil.

That's where they fuck up.

Its like, look, D&D is a game about Good and Evil, and people don't always AGREE about Good and Evil, and that's a feature not a flaw, I've seen some awesome conversations come out of D&D. The Paizo team's basic approach is to just say, "Hey, these are our values, and the shit we write is kinda based on that, sorry if you don't agree", just come out and say that instead of tiptoeing around and trying to be politically correct.

But there's a point where you're just being a sperg and imposing your values because you can, I think they all cross that line now and then.

Classic Monsters Revisited is probably the best value I've ever gotten from an RPG sourcebook.

The general quality of Paizo fluff in my experience is on the level of "one of the better articles from this issue of Dungeon". And I already thought Dungeon and Dragon magazine were generally better quality than Wizards 1st-party stuff, in terms of both fluff and mechanics.

I would give more fucks about a LG farmer-god being misogynistic. And I don't give any fucks about that either. Its fine for a LG farmer-god to be misogynistic and its fine for some country to be a patriarchy or a matriarchy.

Now, you're offended by the matriarchy, and maybe their typical fan is offended by a Good god being prejudiced, and I don't think your feelings are any more or less important than theirs. And I'm sure some of those liberal Paizo fans would not admit this as graciously as I have, they might put on airs like "I'm a woman so my opinion is more important than yours", I know those people exist, and if I were talking to one of them I might scold them for being inconsistent, but in general I don't really care. It's because of the old fandom that Paizo is as they are now. The thread that started it all had trigger warnings before going into detail how Paizo is problematic for having a multitude of heterosexual characters in their setting rather than 35% of them are gay, as that is how many people in modern society are gay. That thread made JJ vow to add more LGBT characters into WotR, and set off the trend that they're on now.

Also, Paizo has gone on to apologize about the LG farmer god being misogynistic, they've not only openly changed his views but have actually de facto retconned him in favor of a goddess of rebellion and hopeful struggle. No such apology has come for the matriarchies as you've said in your post as being equally important.

Then again, this is also the thread that confirmed Desna, Sarenrae (the de facto heroine of the lore and champion of Good in the setting) and Shelyn have a sort of lesbian threesome going on, which is all fine and dandy until you realize that is in fact the only true goodly divine relationship in the lore. Cayden Cailean supposedly had a fling with Desna yet if you asked me how Cayden Cailean is doing in the lore now I'd laugh at you, as he's more or less a butt boy to his ex-whore Herald.

The setting was good, it is not anymore. People like you are the reason it still somehow exists, like how White Wolf continued to exist after the whole thing about male pregnancy and presenting.

And if you look for an explanation for something you'll probably find one, and those explanations constitute their own gonzo form of high-fantasy storytelling, but even that story is ultimately just an excuse for more rad adventure".

>>54126121

As a liberal I take issue with all of that. It really is one of my life missions to badger and harass other liberals when they aren't fair and consistent.

But as a gamer I'm not too bothered with it. Middle Earth has zero gay characters and I still love it, Tolkien was a Christian and I am certainly not, I think that the authoritarian cancer runs DEEP in his setting, but I still love it. So I'm certainly not going to like a game less just because it makes an active effort to represent gay people.

What about you? Do you have ANY tolerance for fiction where the authors beliefs don't match your own?

Hey, here's a dumb question for you people.

In the lore, a drow that becomes good aligned changes into a normal elf, and an elf that becomes evil turns into a drow, right? Does that still apply to half-elves?
>>
>>54126121
>until you realize that is in fact the only true goodly divine relationship in the lore.
I don't really see why that's a problem. The greek gods were utter sluts and so were the gods of most pantheons.

Maybe it's because I never really give much of a fuck about deites and stuff in settings, but I don't see ho it takes away from the setting.

So /pfg/, let's talk about weapon modifications. Specifically, let's talk about the Versatile Design modification. What shenanigans can you pull off using that? Dual-wielding (custom-made) Greatswords at no penalty by making them into polearms that are also shields? Being a brawler and flurrying with a Butcher Axe that's really a Close weapon? Being a Gunslinger that gets Dex to damage with a Longbow (firearm)?

Asmodeus gets worshiped there as a woman because the matriarchy believes that anyone and everyone can be redeemed eventually. So far I'm not aware of any details on it affecting their society.

But I certainly imagine that Asmodeus both hates being seen as a woman and is absolutely going to take advantage of people thinking he's a LN cunning linguist to twist that nation around his finger in a few generations.

But it will never happen because paizo politics protect them probably
>>
>>54126517

I mean, there are apparently instances of elves spontaneously becoming drow, but I don't know that it's explicitly a thing that happens due to their alignment changing.

Holomog is one of those snowflake nations where their national "sin" is being kinda warmongery yet their neighbors are problematic assholes. Their national weakness is also non-weakness, specifically their lands are still rebuilding which is typically a period of profound economic and social progress which, again, isn't a weakness at all.

The only succor we can have with this is Holomog has only been featured in one book and promptly never mentioned again. Unlike Qadira, which is Jessica Price's pet nation and the most powerful kingdom in the lore.

Lead Blades- Ranger 1 (APG)

Telekinetic Strikes Wiz/Sorc 2 (Psychic Anthology)

>>54126674
Which character was yours, Fennec?
>>
>>54126638
I recall most of the details coming up in one of the older APs, might even have been from back in 3.5

Basically an elf has not only gone evil, but betrays some big war council by opening a portal for invading demons right there in the war room. They turn into a drow right in front of the party. There was a sidebar pointing out that evil wasn't enough, being drow was punishment for turning against their race.

I think it mentions that drow can't go back, but that might have been from a different source and I'm getting them mixed up.
>>

Fair enough, fair enough, sorry if I misread you. But you said the setting was good and "is not anymore", and the things you described didn't sound like that big a deal to me. Its still very common for stories to intentionally put men and white people and straight people in all the good roles, but I don't think that makes the stories bad, and I don't think Paizo is any worse than that. Maybe you disagree?

There's another nuance here, which is that I think it's okay for a setting to just blatantly be a feminist or liberal setting, I have no issue with that, I'm just disagreeing with Paizo's specific brand of liberalism. Some liberals literally think its a good thing to make environments that are SLIGHTLY biased against men, or to hold views which aren't completely fair to men, because they're just counterbalancing the sea of misogyny and republicanism and yadda yadda that is the rest of the world (and they would NEVER use those words, those are my words). I think that's butts. Fair is fair is fair, if you want to see fairness then model fairness, its not a tug of war, prejudice doesn't counterbalance prejudice. But I've talked a lot with these liberals and I still consider MOST of their views to be very fair and reasonable, I would probably have much bigger disagreements with some of my favorite authors if I actually talked to them, its just that their medium doesn't literally force them to systemically define Good and Evil, the way that the D&D genre does.

Anyway! Your answer was actually very helpful and thank you, I'm rambling and I don't necessarily expect anyone to respond.

Healing isn't damage. If you poke a living person with a CLW, even if it's an attack, it's not going to add sneak attack damage since it's not damage to begin with. Poking an undead creature, on the other hand, would get sneak attack damage.
>>

It's not that I didn't like the picks, anon, just the game that those picks represent. To me the setting was far more interesting than the philosophy angle. I was hoping the philosophical matters would be more of a backdrop or setpiece, but the choices make it obvious that it's going to be in the forefront of all aspects of the game. I wish the PCs all the best and hope they have a lot of fun, it's just not the kind of game I would have ended up enjoying.

I don't think there's anything wrong with cute, it just seems so pervasive. I see it as a tertiary characteristic, usually, but it's been presented to me here as a secondary, if not primary. See, I think one major reason I've enjoyed the setting of the campaign is how it's been filtered through my GM, or sometimes completely off-script. Like when we visited the drow.

Because of their disconnection from the celestial bodies in the sky, they didn't keep time as we did. The drow kept referring to "time", but we couldn't understand what they were referring to. That is, until it was "time", and the streets broke out into a violent, but orderly riot. All of the lower classes of drow were murdering and robbing each other in the streets, with permits of course, and patrols of driders making sure all violent activity was lawful.

We happened to be caught in the middle of one such riot, and were held up by a band of thieves. They brandished their blades and commanded, "Give us your coppers!" We handed them a couple of copper pieces, and they handed us a receipt and were on their way.

Needless to say, the ranks of the upper classes were a bureaucratic nightmare, too. It was truly a Lawful Evil society unlike any I had seen, taken to a very amusing extreme. And I can't imagine any of it was from the books.
