Pathfinder General /pfg/

Artifact Edition:
Have any of your characters ever possessed an artifact for a significant time? Did it have a positive or negative effect on him? How did he use it to shape the world around him?

Well, considering we've been playing Giantslayer, yes since the game just throws artifacts at the players like crazy.

Actually, come to think of it, I wonder if /pfg/ would enjoy playing a Giantslayer campagin, and how badly they can make it go off the rails.

>>54121446
Ask your group to play Giantslayer. You get a major artifact right at the end of book 1. Its a hammer that will get more powerful in a later book

I've got 2 traits and a drawback pretty much set in stone for a character:

>Pride (Drawback), because it fits.
>Outcast, because he was always and outcast, which became more and more pronounced the older he got, much due to his pride and headstrongness. Also, I needed to regain Survival as a class skill.
>Tusks, because i really want tusks, even though I can't imagine it being used much.

But I'm not sure about the last Trait. I'm considering Dominator, for +2 Intimidate for Dazzling Display and such, but if anyone has ideas for something more interesting or simply cooler, I'm taking suggestions.

Here is Dreamscarred Press's malefex, a 3/4 BAB, 6 base skill points, Wisdom-based class.

The malefex has somewhat of a unique playstyle. It spends swift actions to toss around at-will debuffs upon enemies, and then uses standard actions to attack and full attack with weapons. (Please do not use this class as gestalt bait.)

From a cursory inspection, a malefex looks roughly on par with a combat-oriented inquisitor or occultist, but I could be wrong. Does anyone think that an optimized malefex might be stronger than an equally optimized inquisitor or occultist, or weaker?

My main complaint about the malefex is that it has little in the way of noncombat utility beyond the 6 base skill points, the ribbon class features, and the ability to spend knocks (i.e. class talents) on noncombat utilities. A malefex lacks cantrips. The maledictions offer little in the way of noncombat utility, although there is the cheesy trick of using Steal Talent in bag of rats style to gain a constant +2 circumstance bonus to all skill checks.

For that matter, is anything stopping a malefex from constantly maintaining Steal Stamina and Steal Talent on a familiar or a similar pet, thereby reaping the benefits at all times?

Why of course, my friend plays "Jack Channing", and together they're two compadres. It's a straight-up nonsense game, so we freely reference some Jackie Chan Adventures, and oddly Metal Gear has entered the mix. Since my friend can't play in that campaign anymore, Jack's going to help oversee the development of our mercenary nation.

I literally just discovered roll20 like a week ago and all I can think is "why didn't this exist before"

> still salty about ensoulment

Well, not really. The results were fine. But I have a question. How does one get good at writing interesting characters?

I continually feel that I have these character concepts that have great potential, at least to me, with motives, drives, villains, and so on, but the feedback is always, always, a steady 'meh', or 'boring', or just nothing at all. It is the absolute worst sort of response. Even a shitty character who nonetheless entices the reader is at least engaging. But what defines one from the other?

I don't "get it" and it's very frustrating.
>>
Hello /pfg/ my GM friend was thinking of running a gestalt game starting at level 17 so I was thinking of making that Druid/Wizard idea I has all along

But I wonder, I always knew for myself that managing spells at lower levels is already a bit difficult even though I manage. Doing such a character at level 17 is just asking for trouble for my brain/mind isnt it?

Sure, it will be super powerful, but i get a feeling I wont be able to manage it
>>
>>54127679
The problem might not be in the idea so much as how you write it.

The app may have failed to bring across what excited you about the character to other people.

So is Blood Money worth taking for a necromancer? I was thinking of playing a Juju Mystery Oracle with Ancient Lorekeeper, but I just don't know if it's worth it. Are there any other sorc/wizard only spells that would help as well?
>>
>>54127679
I'd have to see a sample character to help. Ensoulment GM also said they'd talk to people who wanted feedback, so that would probably be even more helpful to you. I generally focus on integration into the setting and backstory to fill in motivations, while trying to remain somewhat grounded. It can run into issues of being generic, especially in games focused on being Big Damn Heroes. Playing with cultural aspects of the society can also be good, as it gives your character opinions on various topics a GM can use to further character development during sessions. Being moderate can get you in trouble, since the character can come off as not caring about anything. My advice would be to talk to Ensoulment GM, though.
>>
Alrighty, my GM, who is pretty laid back, is allowing my charater to have a cybernetic dog.

The thing is, this dog is super intelligent, and able to talk. Even further still, he's letting this dog be trained as a BARD, so I get to roll up a character sheet.

I have PCGen, but am completely lost as to how to roll this crazy ass character up. Any tips?
>>
>>54127679
FennecAnon did a really good job of putting how I've been feeling about ensoulment into words with >>54127192. Lots of really interested apps didn't make either of the prospective teams because Protag wanted a high concept philosophy game and these apps were "just" interesting characters.

>SoP War sphere with Battle Manipulation drawback
>Pick Rally (Empower) for an immediate action +4 morale bonus to Attack, AC, CMB, CMD, save, concentration and spell penetration for 1 round.
>Pick Community Minded (Rahadoum) regional trait
>Extend that morale bonus to 3 rounds.

Just how strong is this really?
>>
>>54127788
Maybe make him Gabe the Dog? The major issue is, as a dog, you won't really be able to play instruments, so you're kind of limited in your performance types, which then limits your possible versatile performance picks and masterpieces.

Maybe Thundercaller or Soundstriker or one of the other attack-focused archetypes? Oh, or do Wordcasting, if your DM allows it.

>given all the classes non combat utility tracks separate from their combat options.

This would've been total bullshit because what if I don't WANT noncombat utility eating up my combat power?
>>
>>54128052

Don't be stupid. 2hu advocates for classes receiving SEPARATE non combat tracks in ADDITION to their combat stuff. Just like Vigilante.
>>
>>54127999
For Ensoulment, it seemed like it. I didn't pay it a ton of attention, so my opinion is worth dick here. In general, you have to match the tone and the setting before anything else, or your character will feel incredibly jarring.
>>
Convince me why I shouldn't play a Roil Dancer that enters into the Mage Hunter PrC in order to get Constitution-based Magus casting.

>>54128150

Question about exalted extended portfolio.
You get domain spells from your third domain, and only from your third domain, as SLA. Correct?
>>
Okay, after much review I've decided to put my party (who should be level 2 by that point) up against a wereraptor bard 4. However, since that might still be too much natural armor for the party to deal with.

I will let them know beforehand that he's a lycanthrope and provide them with an alchemical silver emulsion to apply to either one of their weapons or 10 of their ammo so they can overcome a DR 5/silver.

The question now is: is this too easy?
>>
>>54128215
Nobody has ever done combat/noncombat splits well, not even DSP's rajah is good, Heraldry levels suck dick while the combat levels are god.

>>
>>54128412

So is it better that shitty non combat options get lumped in with the combat options to be ignored totally then? If SoM has good non combat stuff it should be separated. If their non combat stuff sucks, then that's a different issue.

It will depend on your players. Don't put them in an open field where he can use his 60 ft movement, or at least give them cover and places to corner him if they are playing tactically. Maybe even give them mundane ways to spot him coming through his invisibility, sacks of flour come to mind.

How does Harbinger 20/ dervish defender warder 1, shadow wizard 19 sound for a gestalt character?

Leaping charge is still a death sentence for anyone it hits.
Pc ac at level 2 is probably 15-20. Hp in the 20s for non casters.
Talon +7 (+1 luck)(-2 power attack)(+2 charge)(1d8+8x2)(+3 strength for primary natural weapon)(+1luck)(+4 power attack)(double damage on charge) 2d8+16 against 20~ish hp.

If you use the leap consider doing combat manuvers to trip or disarm and such and play up the coward.
>>
>>54130010
His BAB is 3, so power attack will be a but lighter. That also means it'll be more accurate. 2d8+12 for the talon. I'm not sure three luck bonus goes in for damage either. 2d8+10. That's still plenty damage, and assuming you hit the party caster, that could be a wrap. Summoned monsters are also making attacks, so if they've managed to soften the PCs up at all, a charge could take out one of the 2 people with a silver weapon.
>>
>>54128208
Wow, Nodachi of the Righteous is pretty goddamn edgy.

Hard pass.
>>
>>54130083
Ah right 3/4 Bab. But luck does go for attack roll and damage. I assume the rogue talent went into one of the feat.

But seriously 60 movement in that chamber means he has his pick of who to attack every turn.
>>
>>54130010
>>54130083

hm, youre not wrong there.

he'll be doing between 12 and 26 damage on a charge

The party tank will have 22-32 health which means he's going to take a substantial hit, but he'll get an AoO.

Since the tank is playing Neckbeard, the white dwarven samurai he'll still have his shitty mall nodachi unless he's rolled a natural 1 with it, which means 2x(1d10+7+power attack) damage to Rex if he uses the temporary silver oil I provide on it.

He can survive it.

The question is whether I should let neckbeard take BoVD's morbid obesity as a bonus feat for fluff's sake to get an extra 2 hp
>>
>>54129581
He's summoning as a full-round action, right? Things will be summoned by the time they enter?
>>
>>54130223
No, he holds off summoning until the last moment since they only last 4 rounds. The minute the fight starts he'll summon either 1d3 prehistoric crocodiles (cr 1/3) or a swarm of archaeopteryxes to buy him time while he shapeshifts the next round. Once he's shifted the only time he'll cast is if he's using feather fall to escape.

honestly, looking over the numbers here, they could actually pull this off in a single attack with some luck
>>
>>54130313
Do note with full-round casting, the spell doesn't go off until the beginning of his next turn, so they could very much charge and fuck him up before he summons.
>>
Friendly reminder that the pointed shape of elven ears evolved specifically for foreplay. As long-lived species tend to be monogamous and elves are the longest-lived of them all, their ears are sensitive and erogenous for purpose of additional enjoyment during copulation so that the bond between partners becomes stronger.
Elves are literally built to obsess over a single person and be faithful.

Well, first you.need something that is immune to divinations from high level wizards.
Next you need something that won't pop up under a basic detect magic spell, and in places where they won't be using x-ray vision.
Then, you need it to be fast enough to not be quickly blocked by Abjurers or otherwise negated.
Really, the only way I can see it work is by having an insider sabotage all their defenses, then get a Mythic Archer to Nuke the place with an actual nuke or other explosive ordinance from the other side of the solar system

This has probably been done a million times before, though I personally never played a campaign like this, how would you do a full blown Andoran-Cheliax war? I don't mean Andoran's revolution but one that happens years later after Andoran is an established nation.

I was thinking one segment could involve the party paying of Taldan nobles to support the side they're fighting for in hopes of convincing the high prince to support the side they're aligned with. It would be relevant since Taldor is near them both and if the war got big enough it wouls probably come to their soorstep anyway.

And then I got thinking that maybe every nation involved in Inner Sea slave trade such as Katapesh, who are tired of Andoran fucking up said slave trade would join in with Cheliax and then maybe it would spiral into a world war scale if the elves and dwarves then decide to come to Andoran's aide, Galt would also definately support Andoran because they hate Cheliax. And Isger would obviously have to fight with Cheliax because they're Cheliax's bottom bitch.

And now after all this I can't even think of an event that would set it off.

Any suggestions?
>>
>>54130780
Go full WW and have a duke be assassinated by an extremist posing as one of the country's citizens.
>>
>>54130780
Codwin I gets assassinated by his VP(Supreme elects have those right? Fuck it) who was paid off by the Chelaxians or because he's a closet Asmodeus worshipper or something, the PCs investiagate his assassination and uncover the plot which theb leads to war because Andorens start calling for blood after they learn this. Then have Codwin's son/daughter become an ally NPC so the campaign becomes something like Fire Emblem, just make sure they don't become a DMPC, go have them fight other battles while the PCs do their thing and have them team up every now and then. If it's a full scale World War then this should be easy because the PCs obviously can't do everything at once.

Hell, the thing with Taldor could turn into a Taldan civil war which would really be a proxy war between Andoran and Cheliax which might even be a precursor to the main war.

This could either be incredibly awesome or the worst shit ever depending on how it's done. The above is just assuming the party is supporting Andoran but you could have a similar scenario if it was a pro-Cheliax party that help assassinate Codwin or something.

Can someone give me a hand? I'm mastering my first campaign and some of my friends are breaking the game a bit too much I think.
They are a party of 4 level 5 that clear CR 11-12 like it's nothing, half orc barbarian with a warcat, paladin archer (actually does the least), wizard with arcane pool and life shaman (the most broken one).

What the shaman does every fight is usually life link everyone, shield other the barbarian through human FCB. He also has a guardian pet which takes half his damage and regenerates every turn.

He also almost always has false life and shield of succor up so no matter how hard I hit they always still stand.

He has lots of strong channel energy with fey foundling so he heals everyone, pet included all the time. Even if I hit them for 80-90 every round they fix it up in a turn or two at most.

What should I do? Keep throwing retardedly strong enemies at them until they finally get 1shotted or try to go at it some other way?
>>
>>54131181
Enemy casters. Traps. Ability score damage. Special attacks that require saves. It depends how lethal you want to go, really. Can they swim? Do dungeoneering shit. Surprise round attacks from invisible enemies that prepared. Hold Person spells, pits, clouds, black tentacles, all kinds of ways beyond straight damage to fuck people up. I dunno how lethal you wanna go, though. Also, giving them multiple fights between chances to rest makes it a game of resource management.

So, I'm making a gestalt character who's a necromancer and kind of has this reaper theme to them. I thought about taking the Ghost Rider cavalier archetype as my second class (cleric being the first), but I'm also taking the Souleater prestige class and I feel like having a mount -and- a familiar is just too much. Any full BAB classes that can do the whole scythe-wielding necromancer theme just as well? Otherwise, is there an archetype that gets rid of a cavalier's mount entirely?
>>
>>54131181
Fey Foundling only works on the healing you receive yourself.
Shield Other costs 50gp each time you use it.
If he has both Shield Other and a Guardian pet, then him getting hit with an AOE should do something screwy with the damage.
I hope he's got Selective Channel.

Honestly, I think you should rejoice. Typically in PF healing is useless, and tanking is mildly pointless.

Damaya lashunta are tall, poised, and adaptable, making excellent leaders and diplomats, while korasha lashunta are short, muscular, and headstrong, often serving as warriors or explorers. Both subspecies revere scholarship and self-improvement, and their natural charisma makes them popular with other races. Lashuntas traditionally live in matriarchal city-states fortified against the predators of the wild, but while they fiercely value their independence, these city states rarely engage in open warfare against each other, and come to each other’s aid in times of need—such as to defend against their ancient insectile enemies, the formians.”

Mod support as far as i know is pretty much the hardest thing to add, because it means you can't just make the game work, you have to make the game work in ways that make sense.
Look at baldur's gate, lots of things in that are hardcoded to hell and back and are nightmares to change, but that's what the people making the game felt was a good way to make those features work. Making it work in a way that can be remotely understood or modified by others is harder and would mean a longer dev time.

Then again i could be retarded and wrong about everything.

Let's do a summary.

>Noriel
Elven archer, generically nice girl.
>Amaleone "Leona" Saelieni [Darkstar the Witness]
Vigilante-oracle, uses magic and has a slutty alter ego.
>Konrad Aldori
Lawful Neutral dick mach- wait he isn't? Huh.
>Seraphina Alanor
Pure-pure good girl paladin. Leader-type, with paladin and warlord.
>Sir Frederick Von Stiehl
Cavalier/warpriest, probably a charge build. Worships at the altar of aesthetic bodybuilding and turning twinks into hunks.
>Elminar Valran
Pretty normal heroic dude, combines paladin with paladin-a-like zealot.
>Cyrielle d'Equesse
Cute grill who's flighty and vivacious out of armor, but all-business in it. Like if you combined the spirit of a mullet, a thot and a tin can.
>Nolah
Escapee from a demon cult, really really into Desna as it turns out.
>Qari Xazi
Half-elf gish, dresses like a huge slut.
>Leonard Therteo
Tiefling (normal and handsome edition) who's a paladin/oracle. Pretty normal, good guy. Angry, angry about demons.
>Ruhiel Inaedel
Death by snu snu shy half-giant. Low-key charismatic.
>Ferd Maznor
THE WALL, THE WALL, NO ONE ON EARTH CAN MAKE IT FALL
>Rackem and Knight Turner
Edgy dialogue in italics.
>Servant
BLEEP BLOOP I DIDN'T READ CHARGEN RULES
>Semiramis Zadim
Cute brown fightgirl. Awkward, because the new meta is shy 2m tall amazons.
>Zephrus Mokami
Sneaky punchboi.
>Tyras "Butcher" Barsali
Bretty edgy, my dude.
>Bethany Lyne Tertia Calum
You thought I wouldn't recognize Muneneko art, didn't you? The book is hiding the fact the character has giant titties. Wizardstigator, so basically give up on any other int-based characters.
>Rika Shilor
Too short, didn't read.
>Leofric Longstrider
Oh wow, a mature adult male who's seen it all. Almost... paternal. Breaking the mould over here!
>Shan Long
Some kinda Tian dude born in Mendev? Also a punchboi.
>Carmone Guesclin
Edge backstory. Worships Gorum because unlike Kurgess he has FUNCTIONAL STRENGTH. Edgy.
>>
>>54134474
>Elven archer, generically nice girl.
She has a touch of DEA VULT to her, though, being obsessed with purging demons.
>Lawful Neutral dick mach- wait he isn't? Huh.
Sword swallower :^)
>Pure-pure good girl paladin. Leader-type, with paladin and warlord.
The most archetypal LADYKNIGHT of the apps
>Edgy dialogue in italics.
Also a non-serious app because can't make the timeslot, as is said in the app itself.
>>

So what do you imagine as the least functional party here?
>>
>>54134474
Ruhiel needs cuddles. Also, look at that inventory. Slinky undergarments!
>>
>>54134474
>Qari Zaxi

Read her backstory, she dresses like a huge slut and will eagerly choke on dick if it makes someone feel better.
>>
>>54134474
I think Halae was very explicit when talking about Bethany that she's voluptuous to the point it makes common activities awkward. Her boobs are probably bigger (both volume and proportionally) than Onryou, and her ample hips exacerbate her lame leg due to the sway she's gotta put in walking.

Also, realistic albino; she's got eye problems.
>>
>>54134474
>Cyrielle is actually really well-written
>Tuvarkz put her in Tier 3

I'm just flabberghasted as to what madness brought that on, are her boobs not big enough for him? Because I thought a tough, sexy Frenchwoman would've been right up his alley.
>>
>>54134583
>>54134748
What I actually meant is that however big you think they are, they're actually even bigger. Muneneko (literally "breast cat" or "titty kitty") draws some big bazorbos.
>>
>>54134786
The man has garbage taste.
>>
>>54134748
Well of course it's got huge tits. That's most of what Halae plays.
>>
Ragathiel is cooler than Iomedae by far.
>>
>>54134786
Tuvarkz is a "MUH THICC" kind of faggot..
Cyrielle is too thin for him.
>>
Can someone give me an actual rundown of DHB's classes. All I ever hear is like 'yeah it fixes things'. How does it actually fix anything? Asking for cavalier especially.
>>
>>54134803
Her Hunter with the mutant dog-pet and Mouse were downright-modest though?
>>
>>54134836
>How does it actually fix anything?
Not very well. There's a reason why no-one ever talks about them.
>>
>>54134837
and her summoner was described as lanky, too, wasn't it?

Bethany's a break from the norm for her.
>>
>>54134857
>>54134837
You could almost say Bethany is a satire of absurdly thicc casters by making her handicapped by the sheer size of her assets.

Cyrielle being casually tossed aside is just no bueno, she's slim and svelte in a very sensual way, she's not just some lanklet with no tits.

>>

Now that I am confirmed for not having get into ensoulment I can focus on making a good Techslinger for the game. Unfortunately I can't actually afford a technological weapon to start out, which is concerning, but at level 5 I will be able to start making my own tech gear.

Now the question becomes how do I get charges? Silver Mount is only 80 miles away. I should be able to build a construct that makes the run back and forth. The problem is I don't make constructs and the tech making rules doesn't have rules for robots. I am thinking of getting the new Poppet feat and then spending my 5th level feat on both making tech weapons AND making constructs. A medium animated object can have Fly and Faster. Constantly double moving, since it doesn't get tired, and because it can fly it can make the journey in approximately 10 hours, or a 20 hour round trip. It would be running batteries back and forth to the generators on Silver Mount. Now this flying contraption needs to be piloted by someone who knows what he is doing and able to defend itself. A homunculi of someone I have sedated on the construct would be ideal, but impractical. A hireling may be what it comes down to.
>>
>>54134473
Any good ideas for what an Orc Hornbow user should look like? Are there any first party classes that give more to ranged than "full attack forever all the time"?
>>
>>54134836
>>54134855
I have to disagree. No one talks about them because they don't have the 'flash' PoW does with teleporting behind someone and unsheathing your flaming soul katana. They put you on the same level as vigilantes both in and out of combat (probably better than vigilantes in combat) with cool options and a unique identity for your class.

/pfg/ generally doesn't want that, if they don't want fetishes they want to be shooting fire out of their hands while karate chopping a hole in reality.

Well for one, you now gain Banner at 2nd level instead of 4th or whatever it was. Further, in addition to a basic Inspire Courage type buff, you also gain additional Banners types as you level up, and can switch between them. These banners seem to work in addition to your normal buff as well and include benefits like creating a daylight effect, enhancing everyone's movement speed, making enemies shaken, enhancing saves, constantly refreshed temp hp, and other stuff. Basically, Banner becomes the martial equivilent to Bardic Performance.

You also get Oaths, which is essentially your version of AWT, including the ability to snipe a paladin's Divine Grace, or getting your own stipend and castle as a noble.

And automatically at 4th level, you can start trading your mount for more exotic creatures without the need for archetypes. And at 8th level you can also choose from magical creatures for mounts.

You also still get your Tactician/Teamwork feat abilities from original cavalier. Basically, its a straight upgrade that now allows you to be useful for more than just charge-spamming.
>>
>>54135207
Shit that's great. Why isn't it more popular? Most people only ever talk about UC fighter. I actively hear people shitting on UC cavalier a lot of the time.
>>
>>54134939
We should be asking the tough questions, like preferences in men/women and who they would have the most fun with.
>>
>>54135250
Because no one wants to be the Bard. Also, because you don't get much support at all in terms of actual combat feats and abilities (most of your stuff is usualy save, utility, or buffing based) so its not really much of a martial as the fighter is.

Also because, like it or not, DHB has become a meme, and people automatically get turned off by the prospect of using hsi stuff on principle, for fear of being associated with his autism

Also, cleric may probably start to pray to their gods for help, and next thing you know you have some powerful magical demigod coming in, stabbing his weird penis spear in your asteroid, and freezing it in stasis just above the city.

My character was interrogating a prisoner.

My character had a blade near the prisoner's neck. My character was also maintaining readied actions to knock out the prisoner, should the prisoner take any hostile actions.

After my character delivered a sanction that amounted to "Talk, or I maim your face," the prisoner threw their neck onto the blade to kill themselves.

The GM ruled that this was like a coup de grace (which normally provokes attacks of opportunity), except that it was not a coup de grace, so the prisoner did not provoke an attack of opportunity, which my character could have used to knock out the prisoner.

The GM ruled that this was not a hostile action, so my character's readied action to knock out the prisoner was invalid.

The GM also ruled that no Reflex saving throw or initiative check was possible to prevent this.

Was the GM in the right?

>>54135971
Exposed Vigilante with Night Terror entering into Landsknecht does allow for 2.0x strength to damage when wielding a weapon in one hand. It's pretty rad. But that's the only niche it has. If you have good stats you could probably cheese lethal grace too and get more damage or something
>>
>>54135999
I'd have given you a reflex save on that one, but the rest seems fair enough.
>>
>>54135999
Unless the blade was explicitly extremely sharp, nope. You weren't probably holding much actual force on the wrist to keep the blade in place, which means that it'd have been more likely for the blade to be pushed away with your wrist and a small cut on the prisoner's neck. If the blade was held in place by a sturdier structure (like a wooden bar or something), then yes.
>>
>>54135999
Your DM sounds like a faggot.
>>
>>54135999
Was the prisoner restrained? How? If he wasn't restrained, then why the hell where you trying to interrogate him without taking care of that first?

I'd be hesitant to say that he was WRONG - you certainly wouldn't expect someone to try and kill themselves like that, so treating it as a surprise seems appropriate - but I'd say it's kind of a dick move anyway if it came completely out of the blue with no hints that the prisoner would rather kill themselves than be captured. If there WERE hints, then holding a blade to their neck without sufficiently restraining them first was kind of stupid of you.

I'm hesitant to make a judgment here without hearing both sides of the story, or at least more details.

>had him killed at a distance by way of handwaving magic
This sounds like an awesome piece of dramatic storytelling. Start him off with the classic "You don't understand, I'm already dead" shtick, then have him break after a while and just as he's about to spill the beans he just stops and falls to the ground dead. Any attempts to use speak with dead or resuscitation magic fails and provides a nice foreboding hint at the big bad's true power.
>>
>>54136209
What if the magic just makes his head explode?

You can always refuse resurrection magic, and you can't speak with a corpse that's had its vocal cords mangled to that point. An entire lack of a mouth counts as "not capable of communication"

Another, perhaps more costly option is "Contingency + Memory Modification"
>>
>>54136255
Or he just gets plane shifted to the Rape Dimension by the villain
>>
>>54136270
It's magic, we have plenty of options. I think the biggest question is "what's the most cost-effective response?" since logistics would start to come into play with henchmen and the like.
>>
>>54136109

The blade was charged with energy due to magic and such, so that part, I could have seen working.

>>54136113

The prisoner was tied up, manacled, and fettered. The prisoner was uncooperative, but there was no line from them to the effect of "I would rather die than..." or something similar.

My character tried again with the next prisoner(s), which actually did work. This means that the first prisoner killed themselves to make some sort of point which I do not understand.

>>54136116

Biting their tongue would have been useless due to the fact that healing such a thing would have been trivial.

There is a mesmerist trick that literally does this. You possess them, then electrocute their brain at any time you desire.

It's a 3.5e gish with a progression not found in pathfinder, that should have been used in place of delayed 4casting.

She isn't a villian players will have to fight. She was the cataclysm that nearly destroyed the world. The PCs will be starting in the aftermath of her destruction. Maybe a couple hundred years down the line after the gods and mages have gotten what was left of the material plane, that she didn't unbelieve, stitched back together, with only a few gaps where reality doesn't function normally.

Understanding how she works helps me see what is needed to stop her and makes for a richer backstory. The monk has a strong sense of himself and can resist being summarily disbelieved. The fighter blinded and deafened himself while kitted out for fighting Gorgons. Tower mirror shield, mirrored armor and receiving telepathic instructions from the invisible flying wizard who couldn't make any of her spells stick. And of course the bard who sang the world back into existence, forcing the ideas of people and legends and death into the unbeliever's head.
The legendary heros go about reestablishing civilization. The fighter is spurned by the bard, let's politicians run his city why he sulks with the wizard who had been crushing on him. The monk finds a hole in reality and makes a secret city where time doesn't pass and trains up an army of monks and clerics to handle things the next time shit goes sideways. All relevant and long reaching ramafications the PCs will have to deal with.
